of physical challenges and struggled to walk. But I always managed to get | :00:39. | :00:42. | |
involved with the social clubs that my friends went to. But for many | :00:43. | :00:47. | |
disabled kids, that's not the case. Lots of disabled young people find | :00:48. | :00:51. | |
it hard to take part in their local youth clubs, swimming clubs, sports | :00:52. | :00:55. | |
clubs or drama clubs. It's just because often they feel that they're | :00:56. | :00:58. | |
quite unwelcoming or even sometimes because they get turned away from | :00:59. | :01:03. | |
them. To find out more, I wanted to speak to kids growing up with a | :01:04. | :01:07. | |
disability today. On a Saturday, I go to a swimming club, and it's | :01:08. | :01:11. | |
just, like, for disabled people, and I really enjoy it. But I would like | :01:12. | :01:16. | |
to go to clubs where there's different people and not just | :01:17. | :01:21. | |
disabled people. It's not getting out there that's the problem, I | :01:22. | :01:24. | |
don't think. I think it's just having the places to go. Scope say | :01:25. | :01:28. | |
that the people who run these clubs need more training to make them more | :01:29. | :01:33. | |
welcoming for disabled children. But one of the UK's top Paralympians, | :01:34. | :01:37. | |
Hannah Cockroft, doesn't agree. I don't agree with the statistic at | :01:38. | :01:40. | |
all, because there are so many clubs out there that you can just go along | :01:41. | :01:45. | |
to, make new friends, have a lot of fun, and even though it's not aimed | :01:46. | :01:49. | |
at you, you can still go and join in. | :01:50. | :01:51. | |
Hundreds of kids have been chosen as baton bearers for the Commonwealth | :01:52. | :01:54. | |
