Next, a deep-sea octopus has been observed keeping a record-breaking

watch over her eggs of nearly four and a half years.

The devoted eight-legged mum was first seen by scientists in 2007,

clinging to a rock face off the coast of California.

A month later she laid her eggs and began her long watch.

The researchers say her behaviour was her way of adapting to the cold

water, giving the baby octopuses plenty of time to develop.

What is like competing here in Glasgow? It has been phenomenal. The

home crowd has been great. It is my first, it has been quite an

experience. You are sisters, what is it like competing against each

other? I am pretty competitive with her, but when we are on the line she

is just another athlete. Same thing. Absolutely. We are quite competitive

when it comes to competing. What does your mum make of your success?

I think she is incredibly proud to see us both here competing for

Scotland. I think that, as well, he's pretty happy. --.
