MUSIC: Cake By The Ocean by DNCE

:01:25.:01:52.

Hello, everybody, and a huge welcome to the BBC Music Awards 2016. Yes,

:01:53.:02:03.

welcome to the show, and what a show it is said to be.

:02:04.:02:06.

Over the next hour and a half, we have five coveted awards

CHEERING Yes! You are all being excellent by

:02:36.:02:39.

music. To start the festivities, one of the year's best stories, four

:02:40.:02:44.

boys from Walthamstow. Performing The Sound

from I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful

:06:31.:06:38.

cos I know the sound What a start to the show! Thank you,

:06:39.:06:46.

the 1975! Loving those shoes! Still to come, with

:06:47.:07:18.

performances from Emeli Sande, Izzy Bizu, John Legend,

:07:19.:07:20.

the Kaiser Chiefs, Zara Larsson, Well, quite - and an actual king,

:07:21.:07:33.

Craig David will be here! So exciting.

:07:34.:07:35.

Plus, we've got a few surprises up our sleeves as well

:07:36.:07:38.

And, of course, as well as the phenomenal performances

:07:39.:07:42.

we have got five coveted awards to hand out,

:07:43.:07:44.

including the all-new Radio 2 Album of the Year.

:07:45.:07:49.

And the also-all-new Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year.

:07:50.:07:55.

As if that wasn't enough, we will also have

:07:56.:07:58.

hobnobbing with all the stars backstage in the green room.

:07:59.:08:02.

The reason for all this fantastic music

:08:03.:08:07.

and performances and celebrities - and biscuits -

:08:08.:08:11.

is of course to celebrate the last 365 days of music here on the BBC.

:08:12.:08:17.

So we turned up the gain, cos we needed the music.

:08:18.:08:53.

Is anybody here from the greatest county on earth of Devon?

:08:54.:09:14.

There was Mumford... Yeah! ..and sun.

:09:15.:09:16.

It goes a little something like this.

:09:17.:09:26.

Bieber at the Beeb, Olly Murs, Tom Odell, Bastille's day.

:09:27.:09:33.

Tune after anthem after bangin' instrumental.

:09:34.:09:45.

The weather weren't kind, and views weren't gentle.

:09:46.:09:50.

We had chills for T In The Park after dark,

:09:51.:09:53.

and James Bay City Rollers, All Saints in Hyde Park.

:09:54.:09:58.

You can take this as gospel. The Proms had a Ball.

:09:59.:10:01.

Thank you, sir. Nutty Boys in London...

:10:02.:10:03.

Are you talking to me? ..Wild Boys in Cornwall.

:10:04.:10:06.

From Eden to London, we put you at the front,

:10:07.:10:08.

whatever your status, whatever you want.

:10:09.:10:12.

So you can tell everybody these are our songs...

:10:13.:10:14.

From Britain's crown jewels to Brian's Big Ben bongs.

:10:15.:10:20.

Sometimes we skip back, sometimes we skip on. Skepta!

:10:21.:10:36.

We don't pause, we Buble, so whatever your song...

:10:37.:10:39.

Reading '16, how do you do? When you need the music...

:10:40.:10:41.

jazz, classical, pop, we'll press record,

:10:42.:10:43.

The unmistakable voice of Danny Dyer there.

:10:44.:10:53.

for helping us look back on 2016 here at the BBC.

:10:54.:10:59.

Right, this is a music awards show, and we've had some music,

:11:00.:11:02.

so let's get on and have some awards.

:11:03.:11:05.

Our first award of the night is a brand-new one,

:11:06.:11:08.

and there have been some incredible albums this year.

:11:09.:11:14.

To present the first ever Radio 2 Album of the Year,

:11:15.:11:17.

please welcome to the stage one half of the most famous twins in pop,

:11:18.:11:21.

Matt Goss, and a singer so good they named her twice - Lulu.

:11:22.:11:27.

MUSIC: Cold Water by Major Lazer

:11:28.:11:49.

Matt, you said you were reforming with your brother, the show sold out

:11:50.:11:55.

in seven seconds. First of all, hello, everybody! You must have been

:11:56.:12:02.

delighted. Ecstatic, we have just added another at the O2. And you

:12:03.:12:11.

have kept during! This is what I live for, you know that! I love it!

:12:12.:12:17.

Thank you so much for being here, let's get on with things and find

:12:18.:12:21.

out a little bit more about our first award and the nominees.

:12:22.:12:24.

Radio 2 are giving this award this year,

:12:25.:12:27.

because we, as a station, believe in the album.

:12:28.:12:29.

We have been running an Album of the Week feature

:12:30.:12:31.

for at least 20 years that I can remember,

:12:32.:12:33.

and our audience want to hear the whole output of an artist.

:12:34.:12:36.

Choosing a winner amongst these short-listed ones

:12:37.:12:42.

# Finding out what life could really mean... #

:12:43.:13:23.

# How much more are we supposed to tolerate?

:13:24.:13:34.

The winner of the BBC Radio 2 Album of the Year is...

:13:35.:14:03.

The god there's the days -- the goddess that is Adele!

:14:04.:14:21.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Quite clearly not Adele, but we are

:14:22.:14:25.

happy with that! Yes, hello, everybody! It is me! As you have

:14:26.:14:38.

gathered, I am not Adele. You are absolutely right, my mate Adele is

:14:39.:14:42.

in LA, wrapping up the US leg of 30 DF, so she cannot be here, so she

:14:43.:14:48.

sent me instead to accept the award on her behalf. -- her tedium. She

:14:49.:14:52.

has given me a message to read out to you. Thank you for this award, I

:14:53.:14:57.

feel a bit bad winning it when the album has been out for so long, but

:14:58.:15:01.

nevertheless you know I love you, always have and always will. Then

:15:02.:15:06.

she says she loves me, and then she has put Adele and big cases. --

:15:07.:15:17.

kisses. I wouldn't like to say congratulations, it is an honour to

:15:18.:15:20.

receive this award on your behalf, it is a beautiful album, you are a

:15:21.:15:24.

deserving winner and you are an incredible mamba! The hardest

:15:25.:15:30.

working man in show business, love you, Adele, congratulations!

:15:31.:15:36.

Thank you, Robster, thank you Lulu. Congratulations to Adele.

:15:37.:15:42.

but first one of the year's most beautiful songs.

:15:43.:15:48.

It's been played everywhere - from my car to your kitchen,

:15:49.:15:50.

to that stage there in about five seconds' time.

:15:51.:15:53.

With 7 Years, please welcome Lukas Graham.

:15:54.:16:03.

Thanks very much, ladies. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.

:16:04.:16:17.

# My mama told me go, make yourself some friend or you'll be lonely

:16:18.:16:26.

# It was a big, big world but we thought we were bigger

:16:27.:16:38.

# By 11, smoking herb and drinking burning liquor

:16:39.:16:47.

# Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure

:16:48.:16:50.

# My daddy told me, go get yourself a wife or you'll be lonely

:16:51.:16:56.

# I always had that dream like my daddy before me

:16:57.:17:10.

# So I started writing songs I started writing stories

:17:11.:17:15.

# Something about that glory just always seemed to bore me

:17:16.:17:19.

# Cos only those I really love will ever really know me

:17:20.:17:21.

# Before the morning sun when life was lonely

:17:22.:17:29.

# I got my boys with me At least those in favour

:17:30.:17:50.

# And if we don't meet before I leave

:17:51.:17:52.

# I was writing about everything I saw before me

:17:53.:18:00.

# We've traveled around the world and we're still roaming

:18:01.:18:17.

# Remember life and then your life becomes a better one

:18:18.:18:50.

# I made a man so happy when I wrote a letter once

:18:51.:18:53.

# I hope my children come and visit once or twice a month

:18:54.:18:56.

# Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me?

:18:57.:19:05.

# Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me?

:19:06.:19:23.

# My mama told me, go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely

:19:24.:19:36.

Thank you. I hope you know every single person was singing along.

:19:37.:20:13.

Such a big year, what has been the highlight of the past 12 months? To

:20:14.:20:18.

play music for a living all around the world is quite a big award for

:20:19.:20:24.

us. I became a father which was the highlight. We got nominated to the

:20:25.:20:31.

BBC awards, three Grammys. Compared to becoming a father, it's just

:20:32.:20:35.

awards, you know? The greatest award is I'm going to drive home to my

:20:36.:20:38.

little baby girl now. That's wonderful. Thank you for being with

:20:39.:20:46.

us. Lukas Graham, everybody. Thanks for having us.

:20:47.:20:57.

OK, time now to head backstage, where Gemma Cairney

:20:58.:20:59.

is loitering with some of the biggest names in music,

:21:00.:21:01.

and forcing them to answer questions all in the name of entertainment.

:21:02.:21:05.

Thank you, Fearne and Claudia, yes, welcome backstage.

:21:06.:21:07.

This is where the beautiful people hang out.

:21:08.:21:09.

Carry on walking and who do I bump into? You'll never believe it. Lulu

:21:10.:21:17.

and Ricky Wilson. Hello. How are you? He's nuts, you know that, don't

:21:18.:21:22.

you? I'm OK except time standing next to Ricky. He's crazy. That is

:21:23.:21:28.

not a bad thing. Now you've upset me a little bit. What is the atmosphere

:21:29.:21:36.

right? What have you seen so far back here? What haven't we seen?

:21:37.:21:42.

Ooh. Not going to tell everybody, Ayew? Filthy. There's a Jacuzzi full

:21:43.:21:49.

of jellybeans. No, it's pretty good actually, everybody is looking after

:21:50.:21:53.

themselves but I think it'll go pretty mental later. Absolutely,

:21:54.:21:59.

jellybeans and all. Lulu, you've had an incredible year, right? I've had

:22:00.:22:03.

an incredible life. Yes you have, Babe. Still here, that's what you

:22:04.:22:13.

are amazed at. I am in awe. What do you need to keep going? It's the

:22:14.:22:19.

music, if the musicians can kill it and I can still smash it, and people

:22:20.:22:24.

come in, it's the sweetest love affair. Killing it, smashing it, and

:22:25.:22:31.

coming in. And that's what it feels like tonight, the energy, the love

:22:32.:22:36.

affair? So nice, I saw my old mate Robbie which was brilliant and I

:22:37.:22:40.

just met Emily Sandy for the first time. It's all going on. And Ricky

:22:41.:22:45.

will be on later with some surprises later.

:22:46.:22:49.

As well as the Kaiser Chiefs, we've got John Legend,

:22:50.:22:52.

Craig David, Zara Larsson and Robbie Williams still to come,

:22:53.:22:56.

Right now, though, something a little bit special.

:22:57.:23:00.

In fact, scrap that - right now something very special!

:23:01.:23:04.

Her debut album spent ten weeks at number one,

:23:05.:23:06.

she's back dominating the charts all over again.

:23:07.:23:13.

Performing Breathing Underwater, it's the incredible Emeli Sande!

:23:14.:23:33.

# And it's safe to say the storm's gone away

:23:34.:24:07.

# And I'm dancing on the morning after

:24:08.:24:10.

# Yes I'd love to stay but my home's the other way

:24:11.:24:15.

# And it's safe to say you surrender your days

:24:16.:25:19.

# To pay back all the love you borrowed

:25:20.:25:24.

# And hopes are high you survived yesterday

:25:25.:25:29.

Emeli Sande. Can I officially say we missed you, for years was too long,

:25:30.:26:52.

Ayew loving being back? I am, I'm having a great time. We have loved

:26:53.:26:59.

it. Can we take a moment to say how wonderful this audience is. Thank

:27:00.:27:04.

you for the love, everyone. They saw you come out and they were all like,

:27:05.:27:09.

she's here. Ladies and gentlemen, Emeli Sande.

:27:10.:27:20.

Thanks, Claudia, thanks, Emeli, that voice, love you.

:27:21.:27:21.

Still to come, Craig David, Robbie Williams

:27:22.:27:23.

and a very special surprise from the chief Kaiser Chief.

:27:24.:27:26.

Right now, though, more awards - and this one's a biggie.

:27:27.:27:29.

The BBC Music British Artist of the Year.

:27:30.:27:33.

please cover their strides with applause,

:27:34.:27:37.

it's the new King of Queen, Adam Lambert,

:27:38.:27:39.

MUSIC: Runnin' by Naughty Boy featuring Beyonce

:27:40.:27:48.

Adam you have spent much of 2016 performing as a solo artist,

:27:49.:28:02.

How was that? Amazing, Queen has been very welcoming to me, and I

:28:03.:28:14.

think there's more to come. We hope so. Keep your ears and eyes out.

:28:15.:28:19.

Rebecca, who are you looking forward to seeing? I think Emeli Sande was

:28:20.:28:24.

amazing but I'm looking forward to seeing John Legend. That's going to

:28:25.:28:29.

be very special. So glad to have you both here. Over to you guys, Adam,

:28:30.:28:32.

let's do this. Here, with some support from a few

:28:33.:28:42.

celebrity fans, are the nominees for the BBC

:28:43.:28:44.

Music British Artist of the Year. Big year for Adele,

:28:45.:28:51.

I'm a fan of Adele as an artist, You know, she's a star

:28:52.:28:56.

in the truest term. To be there to witness one

:28:57.:29:01.

of her many crowning moments Adele is your post-break-up

:29:02.:29:07.

mix you go to. "I'm in the pits

:29:08.:29:20.

here, I need Adele." She's the hand that pulls

:29:21.:29:24.

you back from the brink. Adele is like the Queen

:29:25.:29:26.

of everything. This is by far the best

:29:27.:29:30.

moment of my life so far. I've got so much respect for him,

:29:31.:29:33.

producer, DJ and can do the vocals, and that's why I put

:29:34.:29:41.

Calvin Harris in his own lane. I love Calvin Harris,

:29:42.:29:44.

I think he's really talented, I saw him at Coachella in front

:29:45.:29:47.

of a record-breaking crowd, and he knows how to

:29:48.:29:51.

put on a good show. What You Came For with Rhianna

:29:52.:29:55.

was just one of those tunes that as soon as you heard it,

:29:56.:30:05.

you were moving. The man just keeps delivering

:30:06.:30:07.

hit after hit after hit. At the beginning of my career,

:30:08.:30:13.

I went on tour with them around Europe, and I was just so inspired

:30:14.:30:20.

by their dedication to the fans. I became a massive fan of Coldplay

:30:21.:30:23.

when they played the closing ceremony at the

:30:24.:30:27.

London 2012 Paralympic Games. Head full of dreams this year,

:30:28.:30:30.

you put the album on, and everyone is bouncing along

:30:31.:30:37.

to one of the songs. When Coldplay put on a show, it's

:30:38.:30:40.

like watching a moving art piece. Colours are flying everywhere,

:30:41.:30:45.

people are screaming. They really are just warm

:30:46.:30:53.

individuals who just appreciate people

:30:54.:30:55.

coming out to watch them sing. He was one of those artists that

:30:56.:30:57.

really strived to push the borders. and I think that's when

:30:58.:31:06.

you become a legend. I love Bowie because he is

:31:07.:31:11.

a completely eclectic, Somehow that man managed

:31:12.:31:13.

to capture the moment that he was living,

:31:14.:31:19.

and his dying too. That last album is just genius,

:31:20.:31:21.

you know, to be facing what he was and still sort

:31:22.:31:28.

of brought that out, I think it's just

:31:29.:31:30.

complete inspiration. Jess Glynne, I think,

:31:31.:31:36.

has got an amazing voice, And I think with Jess Glynne

:31:37.:31:43.

you know who it is straightaway. The power she has in her voice,

:31:44.:31:49.

with that kind of big soul vocal. Now she's doing arena

:31:50.:31:53.

tours, amazing. Jess Glynne's lyrics

:31:54.:31:58.

and her songs are very inspiring. Before my gold medal

:31:59.:32:01.

winning race in Rio, which is a memory that

:32:02.:32:05.

I'll never forget. OK, well, we've heard

:32:06.:32:08.

from the famous fans. The BBC Music British

:32:09.:32:23.

Artist of the Year is... Hold on a minute! Coldplay! Hello,

:32:24.:32:48.

BBC Music Awards, we are Coldplay, we have just got told about winning

:32:49.:32:53.

this beautiful Artist of the Year award, sorry we are not there, we

:32:54.:32:57.

are about to go onstage in Australia. Look at those people! We

:32:58.:33:02.

love you, we are so grateful, and we will see you soon. Thank you so

:33:03.:33:04.

much, bye. # This particular

:33:05.:33:40.

timing is extra special # When I should but I can't let

:33:41.:33:46.

you go # There's a feeling of ever,

:33:47.:34:01.

everglow # Life is shortest

:34:02.:34:44.

in fall, in the snow # And you give me this

:34:45.:35:05.

feeling, this everglow # What I wouldn't give

:35:06.:36:00.

for this moment to hold # Because I live for this

:36:01.:36:09.

feeling, this everglow # So if you love someone,

:36:10.:36:24.

you should let them know # Oh, the light that

:36:25.:36:33.

you left me will everglow. # CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:36:34.:36:55.

Thank you so much! What a special performance that was.

:36:56.:36:55.

to our very worthy winners of best British Artist, Coldplay.

:36:56.:37:00.

Now, from the other side of the planet

:37:01.:37:02.

So here we are in the green room, thank you, ladies, it is going

:37:03.:37:17.

lovely at there, and I am enjoying my company right now. Hi, everyone!

:37:18.:37:24.

How are you doing, darling? Just in case you don't know, I'm with Robbie

:37:25.:37:31.

Williams! Hi, audience, mum! As someone just come over and build

:37:32.:37:36.

your pockets with chocolate? Is this on your right? Monday night is

:37:37.:37:40.

chocolate night, I eat like a ninja all through the week, and Monday

:37:41.:37:47.

night I go for it. Which is your favourite? Galaxy, but there are

:37:48.:37:52.

other confections! Of course! We have just been chatting about the

:37:53.:38:01.

vibe back here. It is, it is like a celebrity village, and back in the

:38:02.:38:05.

olden days for the Brits, everybody used to get drunk, then people use

:38:06.:38:09.

to fight each other, it was a really interesting, entertaining evening.

:38:10.:38:14.

And then the Brits now is just like a dressing room, nobody, there is no

:38:15.:38:20.

vibe backstage. This is excellent, although nobody is wanting to fight

:38:21.:38:26.

me. Let's not do the fights. I have heard there are jellybeans, we can

:38:27.:38:29.

throw them. What can we expect later? Fireworks, I am doing a song

:38:30.:38:38.

called Sensational, which is off my new album, The Heavy Entertainment

:38:39.:38:41.

Show, which is available in all stores! It is a big finale. I am

:38:42.:38:45.

really ready to get my dancing boots on and go wild at the end. It is

:38:46.:38:50.

going to be fabulous. It has been excellent to get so close to you,

:38:51.:38:57.

your chocolate and your chest out. Bye, everyone! Back to you, ladies!

:38:58.:39:02.

That is little hair thing was like a special treat, I cannot wait for

:39:03.:39:06.

that performance. OK, the great music keeps coming

:39:07.:39:08.

now, and we've got one of America's

:39:09.:39:10.

hottest properties for you. From Springfield, Ohio,

:39:11.:39:13.

to ExCeL London - his mum knows him

:39:14.:39:15.

as John Roger Stephens, but you'll know him better as the

:39:16.:39:17.

phenomenally talented - John Legend. # Love your curves

:39:18.:39:24.

and all your edges # Pulling me further,

:39:25.:39:34.

further than I've been before # Making me stronger,

:39:35.:40:26.

shaking me right to the core # Oh, I don't know

:40:27.:40:33.

what's in the stars # Never heard it from above,

:40:34.:40:39.

the world isn't ours # If you ain't mine,

:40:40.:40:42.

I'll be torn apart # I don't know who's gonna kiss you

:40:43.:40:50.

when I'm gone # So I'm gonna love you now,

:40:51.:40:54.

like it's all I have # I know it'll kill me

:40:55.:40:58.

when it's over # I don't wanna think about it,

:40:59.:41:01.

I want you to love me now # Something inside us

:41:02.:41:12.

knows there's nothing guaranteed # Yeah, girl, I don't need you to

:41:13.:41:28.

tell me that you'll never leave, no # To turn darkness into light,

:41:29.:41:36.

turn evil to good # Even when we try so hard

:41:37.:41:43.

for that perfect kind of love # And who's gonna kiss you

:41:44.:41:49.

when I'm gone? # Oh, I'm gonna love you now,

:41:50.:41:55.

like it's all I have # And I know it'll kill me

:41:56.:42:00.

when it's over # I don't wanna think about it,

:42:01.:42:03.

I want you to love me now # Oh, I don't know how the years

:42:04.:42:07.

will go down, it's all right # Let's make the most of

:42:08.:42:31.

every moment tonight # I don't know who's gonna kiss you

:42:32.:42:38.

when I'm gone # So I'm gonna love you now,

:42:39.:42:41.

like it's all I have # I know it'll kill me

:42:42.:42:45.

when it's over # I don't wanna think about it,

:42:46.:42:49.

I want you to love me now # I don't know who's gonna kiss you

:42:50.:42:53.

when I'm gone # Oh, love you now,

:42:54.:42:57.

oh, oh, oh, oh # What a voice, what a jagged! John

:42:58.:43:29.

Legend, utterly brilliant. Wonderful.

:43:30.:43:32.

Now here at the BBC, as well as bringing you

:43:33.:43:35.

big performances from established superstars like that,

:43:36.:43:37.

we also promote the superstars of the future

:43:38.:43:38.

It's a platform supporting the very best in undiscovered

:43:39.:43:46.

and unsigned music and has helped the likes of Jake Bugg,

:43:47.:43:53.

the 1975 and Florence and the Machine, amongst many others.

:43:54.:43:57.

Our two previewed winners of this award are Jack Garratt and Catfish

:43:58.:44:07.

and the Bottlemen. This year goes to one of the most stunning voices in

:44:08.:44:10.

music, the beautiful Izzy Bizu. Her voice is unique. She's also got

:44:11.:44:22.

an amazing stage presence. She's quite a pure voice,

:44:23.:44:31.

so I love the jazz influences, I love the soul

:44:32.:44:34.

and the simplicity of it. I'd describe my music

:44:35.:44:42.

as quite soulful and quite funky. The album is quite positive

:44:43.:44:45.

and uplifting. So White Tiger's very,

:44:46.:44:47.

like, upbeat, whoo-hoo! And then Mad Behaviour's more,

:44:48.:44:51.

like, really, like, chilled, and about things that I probably

:44:52.:44:54.

wouldn't talk about to anybody. and I didn't know Emeli Sande

:44:55.:45:00.

was there. Izzy Bizu came on stage and just

:45:01.:45:05.

like shut the whole place down. She was using her voice in quite

:45:06.:45:08.

an unconventional way, and I think she's an exciting

:45:09.:45:10.

new talent for the UK. I think it was the first awards

:45:11.:45:17.

show we'd ever played. The rise of the band has been

:45:18.:45:23.

massively helped by it. The platform that BBC Introducing

:45:24.:45:27.

offers young artists It's amazing to see it go to someone

:45:28.:45:35.

making the kind of music that she's making without doing it in a way

:45:36.:45:42.

that anybody would expect. I'm really thankful

:45:43.:45:46.

for BBC Introducing. To back you at the start when nobody

:45:47.:45:54.

knows you is really lovely, # Give me love

:45:55.:45:57.

Give me love... # This year's winner of the BBC

:45:58.:46:08.

Music Introducing Award. She's a superstar in the making,

:46:09.:46:15.

and to prove it here she is right now with the

:46:16.:46:18.

incredibly catchy White Tiger. # White

:46:19.:46:24.

Oh, white tiger # If I am still caught up on

:46:25.:46:28.

these safety bars # And all adrenaline

:46:29.:46:35.

rushes to my head # Wanna back out

:46:36.:47:03.

but not alone right now # If I am still

:47:04.:47:09.

caught up on these safety bars # Drunken waves take control,

:47:10.:47:25.

oh, oh, oh # If I am still caught up on

:47:26.:47:44.

these safety bars # You know you're my

:47:45.:48:26.

ooh, la da da da da uh # You know you're my

:48:27.:48:35.

ooh, la da da da da uh # You know you're my

:48:36.:49:04.

ooh, la da da da da uh # If I am still caught up on

:49:05.:49:09.

these safety bars # If I am still caught up on

:49:10.:49:23.

these safety bars I love that song. Here is your

:49:24.:50:03.

exceedingly heavy award. Thank you so much. Where might you put this

:50:04.:50:12.

award? In my new house. I live with this girl. Ayew OK with that? This

:50:13.:50:19.

is a brilliant end to the year but what is next? Japanese tour, and the

:50:20.:50:27.

European tour with these guys which we are so excited about. How much

:50:28.:50:32.

has BBC introducing helped you out? So much from the get go, right from

:50:33.:50:37.

the EP, so thank you so much. And all my family and friends. Thank

:50:38.:50:42.

you, and we are so happy for you to win this award. Please show your

:50:43.:50:45.

love and support for Izzy Bizu. Behind-the-scenes there are hundreds

:50:46.:51:01.

of people, riggers, stage managers, international press. Q Ricky Wilson

:51:02.:51:10.

but undercover. I don't know if people will suss me out but say

:51:11.:51:13.

goodbye to the guy from Kaiser Chiefs, he's not here. I'm going to

:51:14.:51:17.

get that mask on. A lot of people know me here. I can't wait to get it

:51:18.:51:26.

on. Hey, welcome to the BBC music awards 2016. I'll be taking you on a

:51:27.:51:29.

journey through pot, rock, rock 'n' roll. It's going to be great.

:51:30.:51:37.

I'm here with Lukas Graham. Hey guys, can you think of anyone on the

:51:38.:51:42.

build you'd like to collaborate with? Walk around backstage looking

:51:43.:51:47.

at the names, you think, that guy, this girl, yeah. Kaiser Chiefs? That

:51:48.:51:53.

could be a fun collaboration. I love the Kaiser Chiefs.

:51:54.:52:00.

On this stage there will be many pop stars laying many pot eggs of Peel

:52:01.:52:15.

pot yoke. How you doing? Good to see you, man. If you could collaborate

:52:16.:52:18.

with anyone on the list of players who would it be? Craig David, we

:52:19.:52:24.

have spoken about that before. We'll see if we find any time to do it.

:52:25.:52:28.

Sounds like a perfect match made in heaven. This is the world famous

:52:29.:52:32.

piano of the John Legend. My God, that was Robbie Williams,

:52:33.:52:44.

there, rocking the world. So cool. The main man, the main dude, King of

:52:45.:52:50.

the night, Robbie Williams. You are famous for a lot of collaborations.

:52:51.:52:57.

Who would you collaborate with? Kaiser Chiefs? May be Emeli. Kaiser

:52:58.:53:15.

Chiefs? Who? Take this for a spin. Good luck, girls. Thank you. Give it

:53:16.:53:25.

a spin yet? I haven't, mate, not yet. It's right up your street. Izzy

:53:26.:53:35.

Bizu, you are one of the great line-up of artists whose name

:53:36.:53:44.

presents a question. Izzy Bizu? Jessie Ware? . I am joined by the

:53:45.:53:53.

man, the myth, the legend, John Legend, the legend. I'm told you

:53:54.:53:59.

have an interesting vocal warm up. I always do the same warm up. MAKES

:54:00.:54:15.

BIRD SOUNDS. Kind of like this. Practice giving out an award. Prize

:54:16.:54:22.

for the best guy from a band and coach on a reality vocal show goes

:54:23.:54:26.

to... Ricky from the Kaiser Chiefs. I knew it! I didn't know it was you

:54:27.:54:36.

but I knew something was going on. The Kaiser Chiefs? They are a great

:54:37.:54:42.

band, yeah. See you later. I'm going to miss him. He got us good. I smell

:54:43.:54:55.

a rat. But he got us good at first. A modern-day master of disguise. Now

:54:56.:55:05.

please welcome the greatest thing to come out of lead since the

:55:06.:55:07.

Industrial Revolution, the Kaiser Chiefs.

:55:08.:55:15.

# All together now, strike up the band

:55:16.:55:32.

# Take it all from the top, the top, the top, the top

:55:33.:55:59.

# That can only be filled by you again

:56:00.:56:06.

# Never be filled by anyone else but you

:56:07.:56:33.

# Never be filled by anyone else but you

:56:34.:56:38.

# You're the only one, it's you and me

:56:39.:56:59.

# Take it all from the top, the top, the top, the top

:57:00.:57:07.

# That can only be filled by you again

:57:08.:57:15.

# Never be filled by anyone else but you

:57:16.:57:30.

# Never be filled by anyone else but you

:57:31.:58:01.

# That can only be filled by you again

:58:09.:58:15.

# That can only be filled by you again

:58:16.:58:23.

The Kaiser Chiefs. Ricky. You've spent the last two days to rest up

:58:24.:58:57.

tricking us, how fun was that? It was quite unusual. You know when you

:58:58.:59:01.

wake up with your socks on in the middle of the night, you take them

:59:02.:59:04.

off and you think, that's amazing, that's what it felt like. Use my

:59:05.:59:11.

microphone, it's much nicer. Hello. Thanks for performing, that was very

:59:12.:59:14.

lovely, I enjoyed it. Who was your favourite victim? Probably you. The

:59:15.:59:22.

bits when I kept calling you Fern Britton. Thank you for that. I love

:59:23.:59:28.

Fern Britton, though. Thank you for being part of this. I'll be your

:59:29.:59:33.

Phil Vickery. If you like. Kaiser Chiefs, everybody.

:59:34.:59:38.

Coming up, our Song of the Year Award,

:59:39.:59:40.

and Zara Larsson, Craig David and Robbie Williams.

:59:41.:59:43.

Right now, though, a brand-new award.

:59:44.:59:47.

Live Lounge Performance of the Year.

:59:48.:59:52.

For the last decade, the Live Lounge has gone from strength to strength,

:59:53.:59:55.

millions of fans have enjoyed the unique performances

:59:56.:59:57.

and the stars queue up to take part - stars like these.

:59:58.:00:03.

# It's showtime Showtime Showtime Showtime

:00:04.:00:05.

I grew up listening to the Live Lounges

:00:06.:00:11.

Soon as that red light goes on, it's fight or flight.

:00:12.:00:15.

Live Lounge is really fun as an artist,

:00:16.:00:19.

cos you get to also play other people's music.

:00:20.:00:21.

You're getting into another artist's head completely.

:00:22.:00:23.

You have a moment to show the world your true talent.

:00:24.:00:26.

It's our opportunity to really show our vocals and our harmonies.

:00:27.:00:29.

Freedom of expression and freedom to experiment with new sounds.

:00:30.:00:32.

It's a big deal. You've got no filters.

:00:33.:00:36.

You know that people are watching each other's Live Lounges.

:00:37.:00:40.

Are you going to give the performance of your life?

:00:41.:00:42.

You can't do it again. There's only one chance.

:00:43.:00:47.

To present the first ever BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge

:00:48.:00:56.

and a man who's never gonna give it up.

:00:57.:01:05.

Huge congratulations to Pixie, she has got engaged! Thank you very

:01:06.:01:30.

much! We all quite like a wedding, so could you invite us all this very

:01:31.:01:37.

minute? You are invited, and Iwata bridesmaid, Claudia! Done! The last

:01:38.:01:44.

time I saw you, Rick, we were doing a conga in Blackpool at 3am. Who

:01:45.:01:53.

doesn't do a conga in Blackpool?! Has 2016 been extraordinary for you?

:01:54.:01:58.

It has been extraordinary, thank you, anyone who bought my album, it

:01:59.:02:06.

has been incredible. Pixie, over to you. Let's take a look at the

:02:07.:02:11.

nominees for the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year.

:02:12.:02:19.

Christine and the Queens with Beyonce - Sorry.

:02:20.:02:29.

# Those hands high Wave it in my face

:02:30.:02:33.

# So caught up in my job Didn't see...

:02:34.:02:37.

Craig David with Justin Bieber's Love Yourself.

:02:38.:02:39.

# Cos if you like the way you look that much

:02:40.:02:46.

# Oh, baby, you should go and love yourself

:02:47.:02:51.

The 1975 with One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful.

:02:52.:03:09.

# But when you smile it ain't hard to tell...

:03:10.:03:14.

The BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year is...

:03:15.:03:39.

Hello, thank you so much, thank you. Rick Astley, legend! Wow, that is a

:03:40.:04:14.

heavy award! Thank you so much, everybody. Thank you to the BBC.

:04:15.:04:19.

Hello, thank you very much, thank you so much. We didn't write it, so

:04:20.:04:26.

we can't take too much credit, but thank you to radio one. Being really

:04:27.:04:35.

sincere, I want to thank Radio 1 for everything, basically, they have

:04:36.:04:38.

been intrinsic in our success and the Live Lounge and stuff like that.

:04:39.:04:43.

We are very humbled, have a lovely evening, thank you so much.

:04:44.:04:49.

CHEERING Huge, huge congratulations to the

:04:50.:04:54.

very brilliant the 1975. Also, the best dressed band.

:04:55.:04:56.

and quite simply one of the greatest musical comebacks - ever!

:04:57.:05:03.

Yes, our next performer first burst on to the music scene 16 years ago,

:05:04.:05:09.

when he sang on the smash hit Re-Rewind.

:05:10.:05:11.

But jump forward a decade, and he's smashing it once again,

:05:12.:05:13.

topping the charts and picking up awards left right and centre.

:05:14.:05:18.

Please welcome the lovely Craig David!

:05:19.:05:26.

The Rhodes I've been doing this since I was 16, it's like living the

:05:27.:06:53.

dream # Crashing every record, I'm giving

:06:54.:06:57.

it clean # Sometimes you gotta take a chance

:06:58.:07:06.

to break through # That's what gives you everything

:07:07.:07:21.

or breaks you # Ain't giving up on you,

:07:22.:07:25.

ain't giving up on you # Just remember

:07:26.:07:50.

it's me and you for life # Ain't giving up on you,

:07:51.:08:18.

ain't giving up on you Thank you so much! Craig David,

:08:19.:09:51.

thank you! Love that. So good to hear Rewind in there. Sometimes you

:09:52.:09:59.

have got to go back to go forward. And you loved that too, right? Thank

:10:00.:10:05.

you so much for the love. What has been the most surprising moment this

:10:06.:10:11.

year? Do you know what? When we announced the new album, telling me

:10:12.:10:16.

it got to number one, 18 date tour, are you joking me?! 16 years was the

:10:17.:10:23.

first time, it is just amazing, I am so grateful for everyone that has

:10:24.:10:27.

been supporting, amazing. Does it feel different this time around? It

:10:28.:10:32.

is so much sweeter, I am just focusing on the things that made me

:10:33.:10:37.

get into music in the first place, writing songs, performing, giving

:10:38.:10:39.

everything I possibly can on stage. And it is this that makes it all

:10:40.:10:45.

possible, so thank you so, so much. Trust me. Are you allowed to stop at

:10:46.:10:50.

Christmas and have a proper break? It is important to go home and spend

:10:51.:10:56.

time with my mum and dad, we can recapture by what is going on. It is

:10:57.:11:01.

your friends and family, the journey you are on, rather than rushing to

:11:02.:11:05.

the next thing, so I am very grateful. Are you cooking Christmas

:11:06.:11:10.

dinner? My mum! Craig David, everyone!

:11:11.:11:14.

and performances from Zara Larsson and Robbie Williams,

:11:15.:11:18.

Gemma Cairney's backstage with some more star guests.

:11:19.:11:24.

Thank you very much, ladies. Oh, my goodness, Craig David, I was

:11:25.:11:32.

absolutely loving that, I don't know about you guys. I have been boogying

:11:33.:11:38.

with Rebecca Ferguson, Adam Lambert and Matty from the 1975, looking

:11:39.:11:42.

exquisite, did you have to shine your shoes hard tonight? I do not

:11:43.:11:48.

know if I signed my shoes hard! There is like a chip in this one.

:11:49.:11:54.

Look, right there. We need to discuss this, not only did you win

:11:55.:11:58.

an award for the Live Lounge Performance of the Year, but the

:11:59.:12:05.

best shoes of the evening, Matty. They are nice, aren't they? I think

:12:06.:12:12.

they are made of dog. I hope not! Matty, are you feeling good? How

:12:13.:12:16.

does this feel in your hands? Exceptionally heavy and far too

:12:17.:12:22.

lavish, I love it. Where are you going to keep it? Everything goes in

:12:23.:12:26.

the bathroom. I say bathroom - toilet! Everything, just a few more

:12:27.:12:33.

awards! It is getting a bit muggy, we might need to get your shoe shine

:12:34.:12:38.

Hello by Adele. Adele cannot be with us, she is in LA wrapping up the

:23:23.:23:27.

US-led of her tour but she sent this message. Hello again. I'm so sorry

:23:28.:23:34.

I'm not there. I'll be home soon and I can't wait. It's been a long year

:23:35.:23:38.

on the road and this makes me feel a little less homesick. I can't wait

:23:39.:23:42.

for Wembley and then to get back to normal. Special thanks to all my

:23:43.:23:47.

fans for voting for the song, you are all amazing. Merry Christmas,

:23:48.:23:52.

love Adele. Of course she is a massive Spice Girls fan as well. So

:23:53.:23:58.

Geri, can you make sure she gets it? I will. Do you know what, Adele? It

:23:59.:24:06.

is hard when you are away from home. Under half of all of us, I'm going

:24:07.:24:12.

to take this home and when you are back, come over for my house for a

:24:13.:24:15.

nice cup of tea, I think you are wonderful, big kiss. Thank you very

:24:16.:24:23.

much to Geri and your unborn child, Ian. And congratulations Adele.

:24:24.:24:26.

Congratulations to all our winners tonight

:24:27.:24:27.

and a huge thank you to all of our performers.

:24:28.:24:31.

But there is one more act still to come.

:24:32.:24:36.

The one, the only, it has to be, Robbie Williams.

:24:37.:24:48.

# I think you're sexy and you're funny

:24:49.:25:08.

# And I wish that you could always stay

:25:09.:25:14.

# But you knew it had to end this way

:25:15.:26:11.

# Yeah, I'm semi-serious with you right now

:26:12.:27:19.

# God bless you all, I love you so much
