It was really my uncle Peter and my uncle Paddy

who really started it off.

'By the time I was 15, they started me singing.

'I was playing rhythm and singing with them in the band.'

They were a two-piece and became a three-piece, with me in it,

-and I've never looked back since.

-He was more interested in singing

than he was playing. So, from then, it progressed on. I ended up,

I was hardly singing at all. He sung everything.

In '92, I think, I started working there.

I was only 16 and I started in there as a lifeguard.

I had to deal with people, and it's probably a great thing

why I'm good with people now as well,

'because I was teaching swimming to young kids and adults,'

sometimes one-on-one with people.

So, that was a great experience for me.

'People are out for a night out. They're out to enjoy themselves

'and I believe that, if I'm energetic on stage,

'then the people down on the dance floor are going,

'"This guy is really enjoying himself,

'"so I am going to enjoy myself."'

Look at my eyes, for a second.

Me and Toni and the kids always love to spend lots of family time.

We try to spend as much family time together as possible. Time off.

It's my most favourite thing to do.

Anything can inspire me to write a song,

but some days I can write a song,

and some days I might not write anything for maybe a week or two,

but I'm always thinking about songs, all the time.

And learning songs gives you ideas

and watching different people and hearing other people write

and working with other people always gives me ideas, you know.

'I have just recorded a song with a great Nashville writer,

'a guy called Max T Barnes, who is the son'

of a guy called Max D Barnes.

Between those guys, they have written 33 number ones,

so we just recorded a song called The Craic, it's called.

It's been recorded in Nashville. Dolly Parton's band played on it.

It's huge for me. It's a dream come true.

Now, musically, you cover a lot of different types of styles.

Tell us a wee bit about the stage show you were in some time ago.

Well, I started out in country music, like I say, with my uncles and stuff,

and, at that time in the '90s,

Oasis and all these other bands were kind of cool,

so I got into doing sort of indie and rock and pop

and then, by the time I got to the 2000s, I was singing rock

and I did a stage show with long hair

and all that kind of stuff,

wearing a bit of eye-liner and all that.

It was great fun at the time.

And I'm a great fan of old rock'n'roll

and all that kind of thing, so I really, really enjoyed it.

Then, eventually, came back to my roots, back to country,

and it's a great thing to be in right now, at the moment,

with all these young dancers and people out hearing country music.

We're certainly glad you came back to the country, aren't we?

Now, Johnny, you did something that not a lot of us can say -

you jumped out of a plane with Sharon Shannon.

I did. I did. I am a huge...

I've got two Jack Russells at home

and I'm a huge fan of animals. And this was for AHAR,

I think it's actually called. And it was a great charity

for cruelty to animals and stuff like that.

I was asked to do it and I had never done it before.

I love doing energy-rush things, so I gave it a go and...

We would never have guessed(!)

So, I gave it a go, It was pretty scary at the time.

No, I really loved it and, who knows, maybe Shannon would have me back

and we will do it again some time. It was awesome.
