Ministers have ordered an inquiry into claims that a doctor provided | :00:21. | :00:25.
performance-enhancing drugs to top sports stars, | :00:26. | :00:28.
including players at three Premier League clubs | :00:29. | :00:30.
Dr Mark Bonar was secretly filmed by the Sunday Times talking | :00:31. | :00:35.
about prescribing steroids and growth hormones. | :00:36. | :00:37.
The football clubs say the claims are completely unfounded | :00:38. | :00:43.
and they have no knowledge of any players being involved. | :00:44. | :00:45.
Our correspondent David Ornstein has the details. | :00:46. | :00:53.
The Sunday Times says it sent an aspiring Olympic runner to film Dr | :00:54. | :01:00.
Mark Bonar undercover. He claimed he had helped more than 150 elite | :01:01. | :01:06.
sports people, including boxers, tennis players, an English | :01:07. | :01:09.
cricketer, British cyclists and Premier League footballers. | :01:10. | :01:12.
Obviously some of these treatments I out of are banned on the | :01:13. | :01:18.
professional circuit. OK. So you have to be mindful of that. Having | :01:19. | :01:23.
said that, I've worked with lots of professional athletes. OK. Who do | :01:24. | :01:27.
use these treatments. The doctor, who is based in London, allegedly | :01:28. | :01:33.
prescribed performance enhancing drugs such as EPO, steroids and | :01:34. | :01:39.
human growth hormone. The truth of the matter is drugs are in sport. | :01:40. | :01:47.
Right. Now, what I do is, what I do is I prescribe responsibly and I try | :01:48. | :01:53.
to keep my patients the optimum level of normal. If somebody came | :01:54. | :02:01.
into me and said, why are you giving (BLEEP) testosterone, can I say, | :02:02. | :02:06.
look, his testosterone level is 15 and the normal range is 4 to 30, he | :02:07. | :02:15.
has symptoms of testosterone deficiency syndrome and I just | :02:16. | :02:19.
topped them up. But that's not the real reason. It is to increase his | :02:20. | :02:25.
performance. It is how you sell it. It also implicates some of the | :02:26. | :02:29.
biggest football clubs in England. If you are a footballer in your 30s | :02:30. | :02:33.
how are you going to keep up with an 18-year-old. There is though | :02:34. | :02:37.
suggestion that any Premier League club was aware of any wrongdoing and | :02:38. | :02:42.
they same the claims are false and without foundation. It stems from | :02:43. | :02:46.
evidence passed to UK Anti-Doping Agency two years ago. UK Anti-Doping | :02:47. | :02:51.
Agency said it didn't act at the time because Dr Bonar wasn't | :02:52. | :02:56.
governed by any one sport and it didn't pass it to the General | :02:57. | :03:01.
Medical Council to investigate. John Whittingdale said he was shocked and | :03:02. | :03:05.
deeply concerned about these allegations and has asked for an | :03:06. | :03:09.
urgent investigation. He added that in future criminal sanction s could | :03:10. | :03:13.
be considered against athletes. In response to the allegations Dr Bonar | :03:14. | :03:17.
said, I do not dope or treat patients for the sole purpose of | :03:18. | :03:21.
performance enhancement, even those these treatments may enhance | :03:22. | :03:24.
performance as a secondary effect. These are the latest allegations to | :03:25. | :03:29.
rock professional sport, an industry that without integrity loses its | :03:30. | :03:31.
appeal. David on Steen, BBC News. The Business Secretary says | :03:32. | :03:35.
the Government is committed to making sure Port Talbot | :03:36. | :03:37.
steel works stays open, and is prepared to offer support | :03:38. | :03:40.
to make sure a buyer comes forward. Sajid Javid said the UK steel | :03:41. | :03:42.
industry has to have a future, as he didn't want to live | :03:43. | :03:45.
in a country reliant Labour says with Tata Steel looking | :03:46. | :03:48.
to sell all its UK interests the industry needs to be taken | :03:49. | :03:52.
into public ownership - at least in the short term - | :03:53. | :03:54.
if a buyer doesn't come Here's our political | :03:55. | :03:57.
correspondent, Susana Mendonca. Can the British steel industry be | :03:58. | :04:09.
saved? The Business Secretary says he doesn't want to see these turn | :04:10. | :04:13.
aspectses at Port Talbot go cold, but with Tata pulling out of its | :04:14. | :04:17.
loss-making plants in the UK the Government needs a buyer, and it is | :04:18. | :04:20.
willing to pay a price to clinch a deal. I want to see steel making | :04:21. | :04:26.
continuing in Port Talbot. Does that include the blast furnaces though? I | :04:27. | :04:30.
want the find a buyer for the whole of the business. Of course there'll | :04:31. | :04:34.
be help that needs to be provided. Because we've been working on this | :04:35. | :04:37.
for weeks, I've thought carefully about the kind of help we can | :04:38. | :04:41.
provide, I do feel though, for lots of reasons, after talking to Tata | :04:42. | :04:44.
and many others involved in this, there will be enough time to find | :04:45. | :04:48.
the right buyer working with the Government and being able to take | :04:49. | :04:53.
this forward. He says the issues potential buyers of Port Talbot need | :04:54. | :04:57.
to consider are the plant, what's produced there, pensions, how much | :04:58. | :05:00.
it might cost to cover them, and power, the price of energy, a | :05:01. | :05:05.
long-running issue for British steel suppliers. So the Government's | :05:06. | :05:09.
promising assistance but not going as far as nationalisation. That's | :05:10. | :05:13.
what the Labour Government did for the banks eight years ago to | :05:14. | :05:15.
what the Labour Government did for them from collapse, and the shadow | :05:16. | :05:20.
Chancellor said if a buyer for Port Talbot can't be found soon, | :05:21. | :05:22.
nationalisation is still an option. If we haven't got that leeway and | :05:23. | :05:28.
the timescale, as a fall-back yes, nationalise in the short term to | :05:29. | :05:31.
stabilise the situation, prepare the sector for putting it back out to | :05:32. | :05:35.
another buyer. That will give us the stability we need in the sector. If | :05:36. | :05:39.
the Government allows our steel sector to close, Port Talbot to | :05:40. | :05:43.
close, it could cost us between 1 and 1.5 billion to keep people on | :05:44. | :05:47.
the dole and have economies collapse in those communities. So far the | :05:48. | :05:50.
Government says it will encourage councils and other public bodies buy | :05:51. | :05:54.
British for new building projects. There is also talk of further | :05:55. | :05:59.
British for new building projects. And it will have to come up with | :06:00. | :06:03.
more incentives to woo the private buyers if it wants to save the | :06:04. | :06:07.
thousands of jobs that could be lost. | :06:08. | :06:10.
Fighting has continued overnight in the disputed Caucasus | :06:11. | :06:12.
Reports say that troops from Azerbaijan and Armenia have | :06:13. | :06:15.
Fighting on Saturday left a total of 30 soldiers dead | :06:16. | :06:19.
The first flight to leave Brussels airport since it was attacked 12 | :06:20. | :06:26.
A small ceremony was held to mark the partial reopening | :06:27. | :06:30.
Just three flights will depart today - a tiny proportion of the more | :06:31. | :06:34.
than 500 the airport usually handles. | :06:35. | :06:36.
32 people were killed when the airport and the city's | :06:37. | :06:39.
Metro were targeted by bombers linked to the so-called Islamic | :06:40. | :06:41.
Some leaders from President Assad's Alawite sect in Syria have distanced | :06:42. | :06:48.
The leaders say they hope to shine a light on the Alawites after a long | :06:49. | :06:52.
They emphasise that the sect should not be associated | :06:53. | :06:56.
with what they call the crimes of the regime. | :06:57. | :07:02.
Greek coastguards have rescued a boat full of people off the island | :07:03. | :07:05.
of Lesbos, less than 24 hours before Greece is due to begin returning | :07:06. | :07:08.
migrants who have no claim to asylum back to Turkey. | :07:09. | :07:10.
The returns are a key part of an agreement between the EU | :07:11. | :07:13.
and Turkey aimed at stemming the flow of migrants | :07:14. | :07:16.
From Lesbos, Sarah Rainsford sent this report. | :07:17. | :07:25.
Every day, volunteers scan the Aegean for new arrivals, | :07:26. | :07:27.
and every day hundreds are rescued from the sea. | :07:28. | :07:31.
Many are fleeing the violence in Syria and Iraq, hoping for safety | :07:32. | :07:34.
I met Rada and her family from Damascus. | :07:35. | :07:42.
She told me she wants to join her son in Sweden, | :07:43. | :07:44.
But Rada didn't know the rules had changed and that migrants | :07:45. | :07:50.
could now be sent back from here across the sea. | :07:51. | :07:56.
Every migrant who lands in Greece now is taken | :07:57. | :08:05.
That's the men, the women and the children. | :08:06. | :08:10.
From this closed camp they can apply for asylum, | :08:11. | :08:13.
but under the new EU deal it's thought many will be | :08:14. | :08:15.
When I found Rada again, that was sinking in. | :08:16. | :08:22.
We are not allowed inside the camp anymore, so we spoke | :08:23. | :08:24.
The family tell me they have to sleep outside. | :08:25. | :08:28.
You don't look so happy as you did yesterday. | :08:29. | :08:36.
This morning, though, brought new, exhausted arrivals. | :08:37. | :08:48.
among them were dozens more children. | :08:49. | :08:51.
Boats like this are still coming in every single day here to Greece. | :08:52. | :08:54.
People being helped ashore by the volunteers, starting | :08:55. | :08:57.
to smile, some of them, as they finally realise | :08:58. | :08:59.
Whatever the politicians have agreed, it's clear | :09:00. | :09:03.
there are still plenty of people prepared to make this journey, | :09:04. | :09:06.
just hoping they can move on from here to a better | :09:07. | :09:09.
But tomorrow Greece will start the deportations. | :09:10. | :09:13.
Those who haven't claimed asylum will be the first to go. | :09:14. | :09:16.
The fates of families like this is still uncertain. | :09:17. | :09:26.

Hello. I know it might sound a little bit vague but changeable | :09:31. | :09:53.
isn't a bad word to describe the weather for the week ahead. It will | :09:54. | :09:57.
be in terms of temperature. At the moment it is turning quite mild | :09:58. | :10:00.
across many parts of East Anglia. Temperatures heading towards the mid | :10:01. | :10:06.
teens. | :10:07. | :10:09. |
