have spent the day salvaging art works and documents from Glasgow Art

School's fire damaged Mackintosh building. It took 200 firefighters

almost seven hours to get the blaze under control on Friday, but they

managed to save most of the building. Julie Peacock reports.

Piece by piece, one box at a time, and are of archivists and academics

rescued items. Two days after the fire and work is underway to

recreate what was lost. The art school's laser scanning team are

recording every detail to make sure they can restore it perfectly. We

are just making sure there are no more hot spots and we are working

with historic Scotland and the Glasgow School of Art and our teams

are making sure the fire was extinguished. We are working with

those teams to try to excavate what we can and save any further

artefacts that are perhaps buried under some of the collapsed internal

workings. Glasgow School of Art says it is tragically ironic that a new

fire suppression system was due to be installed over the summer, but

they say they'd is no way of knowing if it would have made a difference.

Firefighters are seeing it as one of the most difficult they have had to

deal with. It was a really hot fire that developed very quickly and that

makes it difficult. Not only the intense heat but the smoke and the

to visibility. The fire was spreading very rapidly so you are

always on the back foot. The campus will remain closed next week so that

the Mackintosh Building can be cleared and precious works stored in

other buildings, but the art school will be open to students on Friday

top tier. An ambitious plan to work out who

owns every part of Scotland is to be completed within ten years,

according to the Scottish Government. A new mapping project

has been announced, days after an expert group published a major

report on land reform. 62 recommendations were set out. Among

the suggestions, it called for a new law to limit how much land any

single person can own. The American pop superstar Katy

Perry is due to headline the main stage at BBC Radio One's Big Weekend

in Glasgow tonight. Earlier, Chris Martin, the frontman of last night's

headliners, Coldplay, made a surprise return, joining the

American rock band Kings of Leon for an impromptu session. Other

highlights today include Paulo Nutini, Tinie Tempah and Rita Ora.

Around 50,000 people are expected to have attended. Highlights and live

At the Chelsea Flower show this year, one of the gold medals went to

a garden inspired by the Somme. Here, for the Ideal Home Show in

Glasgow, the veterans' charity, Erskine, has recreated its own

garden to mark the centenary of the Great War. Aileen Clarke has been

along to see it. Even before the outbreak of the

great War, a garden or allotment was a much cherished source of extra

food and even more so after war was declared. Gardens were planted up by

men who went off to fight leaving wives and daughters to tend them.

You were thrown into the deep end if you did not learn how to look after

gardens, and lots of women could make jams and preserves. They would

Hospital started taking casualties from the war and those who are all
