This morning, in her latest video diary for this programme, | :00:00. | :00:13.
Victoria talks about the impact of hair loss as a side-effect | :00:14. | :00:16.
of chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. | :00:17. | :00:24.
During the course of treatment of the side-effect of losing my hair | :00:25. | :00:34.
has been the distressing part for me. It has been the thing that has | :00:35. | :00:36.
affected me the most, more than the mastectomy. | :00:37. | :00:40.
Watch the full video diary in the next few minutes. | :00:41. | :00:42.
Security services are trying to establish the identity | :00:43. | :00:44.
of a masked man, with a British accent, who's appeared | :00:45. | :00:47.
in a new so-called Islamic State group video. | :00:48. | :00:48.
And now that your kids have consumed all those chocolates and sweets over | :00:49. | :00:54.
Christmas, here's a stat that will really frighten you. | :00:55. | :00:57.
Over a year us kids eat and drink a whopping 5543 sugar cubes. | :00:58. | :01:03.
That's 22 bags of sugar - that's more than a kid like me | :01:04. | :01:06.
We'll tell you about a new Government-backed campaign | :01:07. | :01:13.
to better monitor the amount of sugar your children consume. | :01:14. | :01:26.
Happy new year and welcome to the programme. | :01:27. | :01:29.
We're on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel until 11 this morning. | :01:30. | :01:33.
As always, we'll be bringing you the latest breaking news | :01:34. | :01:36.
future as a Labour MP, after those explict messages | :01:37. | :01:53.
Your contributions to this programme and your expertise really | :01:54. | :01:57.
Texts will be charged at the standard network rate. | :01:58. | :02:13.
following her diagnosis of breast cancer. | :02:14. | :02:27.
I am ready to | :02:28. | :02:48.
downstairs. It is two and a half weeks | :02:49. | :02:51.
downstairs. It is two and a half is four days until the second. I | :02:52. | :02:59.
just wanted to show you this. This is the first bit of hair of mine | :03:00. | :03:02.
that has fallen out. I was prepared for it. Obviously it is a side | :03:03. | :03:06.
effect of chemotherapy. It is slightly disconcerting nonetheless. | :03:07. | :03:13.
Hello, it is Wednesday the 25th of November and I have just finished my | :03:14. | :03:17.
second chemotherapy session. It has felt much better this time. I am | :03:18. | :03:23.
wearing a different cold cab. It is closer fitting. A much more | :03:24. | :03:28.
efficient cooling system, apparently. I have got 48 minutes | :03:29. | :03:37.
remaining. After the drugs have gone into me I have got to wait for | :03:38. | :03:40.
another hour and a half, 90 minutes, to keep the hair cool to hopefully | :03:41. | :03:45.
another hour and a half, 90 minutes, minimise hair loss. A bit of hair | :03:46. | :03:48.
has been coming out but not that much at this stage. I have not had a | :03:49. | :03:52.
bad headache like the last time. Perhaps it is because I am more used | :03:53. | :03:54.
to it or I know what to expect. But Perhaps it is because I am more used | :03:55. | :03:58.
compared to the last time it is 50% better. I have been much more alert. | :03:59. | :04:05.
Not as sleepy. Just a bit more cheerful, really. | :04:06. | :04:14.
If you feel polling, stop me. I don't know how good this fellow is | :04:15. | :04:21.
going to be. I might need to defrost it a bit. OK. Just finished chemo. | :04:22. | :04:26.
Finished wearing a cold cab. Just taking it off now. Hopefully I am | :04:27. | :04:32.
going to show you some ice in the hat. A little bit on the top of your | :04:33. | :04:42.
head. Hopefully you can see that. Not much in there. A little bit. If | :04:43. | :04:48.
I'd just do it on the top of my head, their icicles, rather? Wow! | :04:49. | :04:58.
That is just how proof -- proof of how cold it gets. | :04:59. | :05:02.
A couple of days after the second chemo. I have had lots of sleep. I | :05:03. | :05:08.
feel like I am a routine. I know what to do. I have taken the | :05:09. | :05:12.
anti-Sikh meets tablets at the right time. -- anti-sickness tablets. I | :05:13. | :05:20.
feel tired. I had just washed my hair. It is a bit gross. This is how | :05:21. | :05:30.
much hair has come out. That is to be expected but it is quite a lot. | :05:31. | :05:36.
That is after wearing the cold Twice. If I had not won it twice, it | :05:37. | :05:49.
maybe will may walk -- weigh Twice. If I had not won it twice, it | :05:50. | :05:49.
than that. Horses for courses, I suppose. It is | :05:50. | :05:55.
now six days since the second chemotherapy session. Like the first | :05:56. | :06:02.
one, I am at the stage where I'm feeling a little dispirited. One of | :06:03. | :06:06.
the things that I am finding difficult to come to terms with is | :06:07. | :06:12.
losing my hair. I would say I have lost about 30 so 50% of my hair. -- | :06:13. | :06:21.
30 to 50%. And I am finding this hard. | :06:22. | :06:45.
It is a week after the second chemo. I am back at work. It is brilliant | :06:46. | :06:49.
to see everybody and be back in a normal routine. And work with people | :06:50. | :06:53.
on the programme again. I feel normal again. Feeling normal is | :06:54. | :07:03.
good. December the 16th. Today is a milestone in the course of this | :07:04. | :07:07.
chemotherapy treatment because I had just finished the third one. That | :07:08. | :07:12.
means I'm halfway through. That is quite a satisfying feeling. The time | :07:13. | :07:16.
is passing, quickly, which surprises me. And if you are experiencing | :07:17. | :07:23.
this, or somebody you know is experiencing this treatment, then | :07:24. | :07:26.
keep on keeping on because it will pass. | :07:27. | :07:34.
It is Christmas eve and it has taken me eight days to bounce back from | :07:35. | :07:41.
the last session of chemotherapy. I have spent a week doing a lot of | :07:42. | :07:49.
sleeping. Feeling a bit dizzy. I have a disgusting cardboard taste in | :07:50. | :07:55.
my mouth. One also in my mouth. Only one. Not the end of the world. Also, | :07:56. | :08:04.
I have got used to wearing a week, which is something I never thought I | :08:05. | :08:09.
would say. The idea a few weeks ago of wearing a week absolutely | :08:10. | :08:13.
horrified me. It represented stress, it represented something peculiar, | :08:14. | :08:17.
not me, and now I can put it on in five minutes in the morning. We went | :08:18. | :08:24.
to a Christmas party the other day and when I got back my youngest son | :08:25. | :08:29.
whispered to me, did anybody know you are wearing a wig? It lets me | :08:30. | :08:36.
crack on and get on with things, which is absolutely great. | :08:37. | :08:43.
It is the end of the year and like you, no doubt, I am looking forward | :08:44. | :08:47.
to the year ahead. I cannot wait for 2016 to get cracking. | :08:48. | :08:51.
to the year ahead. I cannot wait for cannot. Particularly the last three | :08:52. | :08:53.
days of February when chemotherapy will end. Haare! Than I will have | :08:54. | :09:00.
radiotherapy. Everybody who has had radiotherapy says it is a breeze | :09:01. | :09:04.
compared to chemotherapy. I have another ulcer. I had some brown | :09:05. | :09:12.
mottling on my face. I have lost a little bit of my eyebrows but you | :09:13. | :09:13.
fill in the missing bits with an eyebrow pencil. I have managed to | :09:14. | :09:17.
preserve my nails, perhaps because I received advice that if you wear | :09:18. | :09:21.
dark nail varnish it maintains them through chemo. That appears to be | :09:22. | :09:26.
working. I cannot wait to get back to work, albeit briefly before the | :09:27. | :09:30.
next session of chemo starts. When I started wearing a wig a few weeks | :09:31. | :09:35.
ago I did not tell anybody at work I was wearing one. I needed some time | :09:36. | :09:42.
to adjust. I can confirm I am now fully adjusted to it and so I feel | :09:43. | :09:46.
comfortable in being totally open about it. But we are a close-knit | :09:47. | :09:54.
team at work. They are a bunch of journalists. I am guessing they have | :09:55. | :09:56.
sussed it. If they haven't, I will be a little disappointed, to be | :09:57. | :10:01.
honest. During the course of treatment the side effect of losing | :10:02. | :10:03.
my hair has been the distressing part for me. It has been the thing | :10:04. | :10:09.
that has affected me most, more than a mastectomy, which may sound | :10:10. | :10:14.
peculiar, but maybe not. As I have said before, everybody is different. | :10:15. | :10:19.
But my hair will grow back. So that is cool. And... Yes, roll on 2016. I | :10:20. | :10:31.
hope you had a brilliant year ahead. And thank you, thank you, thank you | :10:32. | :10:37.
for your thoughtful and kind and inspiring messages. They have meant | :10:38. | :10:37.
such a lot to me. You can watch and share | :10:38. | :10:41.
all of Victoria's video diaries on our programme page | :10:42. | :10:44.
or on the BBC News You Tube page. You may have seen over the Christmas | :10:45. | :10:56.
period the daily Telegraph the thoughts of many of many of us when | :10:57. | :10:58.
it praised her role bravery and what she is doing with her video diaries. | :10:59. | :11:01.
Lots of you have been getting in touch about this. | :11:02. | :11:03.
Dave Clark said that as a doctor he felt compelled to say how impressed | :11:04. | :11:13.
he is by Victoria's updates. He cannot emphasise too much how | :11:14. | :11:18.
important the message is. You have courageously chosen to do something | :11:19. | :11:22.
wonderful. You have allowed people to see what managing cancer really | :11:23. | :11:28.
entails. You have helped thousands of patient and family members gain | :11:29. | :11:30.
an insight into what is to come. Andy says his wife went through it a | :11:31. | :11:36.
couple of years ago. -- nine years ago. Nicola says | :11:37. | :11:40.
Victoria is a woman of valour and kindness. Heather says she went | :11:41. | :11:45.
through the same thing a few years ago. She never looked at herself | :11:46. | :11:49.
whole year without hair. She never allowed herself to be in a | :11:50. | :11:53.
photograph during that time. You are extremely brave and I so admire what | :11:54. | :11:57.
you are doing to publicise this process. Rachel Hughes says hair | :11:58. | :12:07.
loss is such a difficult part of cancer treatment for women. Janice | :12:08. | :12:07.
Eastwood says she had surgery 12 months ago followed by chemotherapy | :12:08. | :12:12.
and radiotherapy. She knows what Victoria is going through. Andy says | :12:13. | :12:21.
he is luckily a healthy man. He finds Victoria and inspiration. | :12:22. | :12:25.
Thank you very much for joining us today and for your comments. Still | :12:26. | :12:30.
to come. Will Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn press ahead with a revenge | :12:31. | :12:35.
reshuffle of his top team, getting rid of colleagues who disagree with | :12:36. | :12:40.
him? We will talk to two of his MPs. Plus, some five-year-olds are eating | :12:41. | :12:45.
their own body weight in sugar every year. More than three stones worth. | :12:46. | :12:49.
We find out how parents can help their children cut down. | :12:50. | :12:55.
Security services are trying to establish the identity | :12:56. | :12:57.
of a masked man with a British accent - in a video released | :12:58. | :13:00.
by so-called Islamic State militants. | :13:01. | :13:03.
The propaganda film apparently shows the killing of five people accused | :13:04. | :13:08.
All Iranian diplomats in Saudi Arabia - have been given 48 | :13:09. | :13:14.
hours to leave, after cutting off diplomatic ties with Tehran. | :13:15. | :13:16.
It's amid a growing row over the Saudis' execution | :13:17. | :13:18.
Sweden introduces new border checks for all travellers from Denmark, | :13:19. | :13:24.
for the first time in over half a century - | :13:25. | :13:28.
in an attempt to reduce the flow of migrants. | :13:29. | :13:32.
All travellers are being refused entry unless they have the necessary | :13:33. | :13:35.
The government is to commission the construction of up | :13:36. | :13:38.
to thirteen-thousand new affordable homes on public land -- | :13:39. | :13:40.
in the latest attempt to stimulate house-building. | :13:41. | :13:43.
Labour has accused ministers of trying to "spin" the figures | :13:44. | :13:47.
And parents are urged to use a new app to keep track of sugar | :13:48. | :13:57.
content in their children's food and drink. | :13:58. | :13:59.
Officials say children aged between four and ten currently get | :14:00. | :14:06.
through twenty-two kilos of added sugar a year, | :14:07. | :14:10.
more than the weight of the average five year-old. | :14:11. | :14:24.
more than the weight Victoria's diary. Leanne says, keep | :14:25. | :14:27.
strong and persist with the cab. It will work. Hair will thin badly but | :14:28. | :14:33.
it will grow back. What a brave and inspirational woman. Sending best | :14:34. | :14:39.
wishes for your recovery. Hang in there honey. You will definitely | :14:40. | :14:42.
beat cancer because I have faith in you and we will support you. Another | :14:43. | :14:46.
one says, a mostly sad but inspiring video. So brave to tell us | :14:47. | :14:54.
one says, a mostly sad but inspiring really is for those undergoing | :14:55. | :14:59.
treatment. Do keep on getting in touch. We worried all of your | :15:00. | :15:06.
messages as does Victoria. Let's catch up with the sport. Jess has | :15:07. | :15:07.
the details. Only one place to start, with the | :15:08. | :15:17.
cricket. All over the morning papers. This is the independent, and | :15:18. | :15:25.
the times. And in the Daily Telegraph, an innings like no | :15:26. | :15:30.
others. Celebrating Ben Stokes's colossal double century in the | :15:31. | :15:33.
second test against South Africa yesterday, he made 258, and let me | :15:34. | :15:40.
read some statistics for you. It is the fastest double century by an | :15:41. | :15:44.
English batsman in history and the highest Test innings by a number | :15:45. | :15:52.
six. He hit an extraordinary 11 sixes. Extraordinary. Excited to say | :15:53. | :15:55.
we will be speaking to his dad at 10:30am. What a proud that he must | :15:56. | :16:01.
be. Just a couple of football lines elsewhere in sport. Chelsea interim | :16:02. | :16:04.
boss Guus Hiddink believes his team can still make the top four and | :16:05. | :16:07.
qualify for the Champions League after they beat Crystal Palace 3-0. | :16:08. | :16:13.
Tottenham drew 1-1 with Everton and keep their place in the top four. | :16:14. | :16:18.
Gary Anderson in the dance is still the PDC world champion after beating | :16:19. | :16:22.
Adrian Lewis. He joins a handful of players to have won the crown for a | :16:23. | :16:26.
second time. All that and more at 10am. Thank you remarked, see you | :16:27. | :16:29.
later. New year, new Labour | :16:30. | :16:32.
infighting over a potential Leader Jeremy Corbyn seemingly wants | :16:33. | :16:34.
to bolster his position by moving Diane Abbott has called its nonsense | :16:35. | :16:49.
and dismissed figures she could be the new Shadow Foreign Secretary. | :16:50. | :16:55.
The man currently in the job, Hilary Benn, is thought to be at risk for | :16:56. | :16:58.
It is now time for us to do our bit in Syria. | :16:59. | :17:04.
That is why I ask my colleagues to vote for this motion | :17:05. | :17:07.
We can talk to two new Labour MPs now, | :17:08. | :17:13.
Wes Streeting says a "revenge reshuffle" would be the worst | :17:14. | :17:21.
And Clive Lewis is a key Corbyn backer, who has been tipped | :17:22. | :17:28.
to replace Maria Eagle as Shadow Defence Minister. | :17:29. | :17:30.
Thank you both for coming in. Tell us first of all, is this something | :17:31. | :17:36.
that you've been sounded out about? I haven't been sounded out at all, | :17:37. | :17:41.
and I would be disappointed if this was dropped on me from a great | :17:42. | :17:46.
height of five minutes before. I haven't been spoken to by anyone so | :17:47. | :17:50.
I think it is complete speculation. Would you want to do it? I would | :17:51. | :17:55.
not. Why not? I have been an MP for eight months and I am already on the | :17:56. | :18:00.
Shadow front bench, it is a steep learning curve being an MP and even | :18:01. | :18:04.
more being on the front bench. I think I want to pace myself, like | :18:05. | :18:07.
most people that come into Parliament and that is my honest | :18:08. | :18:12.
opinion. If you were offered, would you say no? If Jeremy Corbyn offered | :18:13. | :18:16.
me that and said, look, I need you to do it, this is essential that you | :18:17. | :18:20.
do it, I would have to think about it. But to be quite frank, no. My | :18:21. | :18:23.
initial inclination would be it. But to be quite frank, no. My | :18:24. | :18:28.
no. You don't think your experience is enough? I have only been in the | :18:29. | :18:32.
job eight months. But this is speculation and I wanted to pick up | :18:33. | :18:38.
on the revenge reshuffle as it is being framed, I think if David | :18:39. | :18:41.
Cameron had a reshuffle, it would just be called a reshuffle. Critical | :18:42. | :18:45.
leaders throughout the history of the Parliamentary Labour Party have | :18:46. | :18:49.
made reshuffle is, that's what they do, try to manage their Shadow | :18:50. | :18:55.
Cabinet. In 2001 Tony Blair in effect demoted Robin Cook because of | :18:56. | :18:59.
his staunchly pro-European position. That is about managing how your | :19:00. | :19:06.
Shadow Cabinet works and that's what Jeremy Corbyn has every right to do. | :19:07. | :19:11.
Shadow Cabinet works and that's what We are like a family in labour. Me | :19:12. | :19:12.
and Wes might have slightly different views but by and large our | :19:13. | :19:17.
principles hold us together. But sometimes in families you get | :19:18. | :19:20.
differences of opinion, like you do at Christmas, people have arguments. | :19:21. | :19:25.
The mechanism we used to sort that out is called democracy. We had a | :19:26. | :19:29.
democratic election and Jeremy Corbyn won and it is his prerogative | :19:30. | :19:32.
as leader not to show revenge but his prerogative as leader to be able | :19:33. | :19:35.
to manage and shape the Shadow Cabinet. One of the benefits and | :19:36. | :19:40.
perks of being the leader, to shake that Shadow Cabinet, and he is | :19:41. | :19:47.
entitled to do that without it being referred to as revenge. Wes, you | :19:48. | :19:50.
think it would be a terrible start to the new year to go ahead with a | :19:51. | :19:53.
reshuffle, why? We are five months away from crucial elections in this | :19:54. | :19:59.
country, and I was out this morning campaign for said he can't I wish | :20:00. | :20:02.
that was the issue we were talking about this morning. We have issues | :20:03. | :20:08.
across the country. I don't want to see Labour MPs thrown on the | :20:09. | :20:13.
scrapheap because we were too busy talking about ourselves | :20:14. | :20:17.
scrapheap because we were too busy structures and personalities when we | :20:18. | :20:19.
should be talking about the issues facing the country. I think there | :20:20. | :20:22.
are two possibilities in the next couple of weeks. Either we are going | :20:23. | :20:30.
to see the sort of wide-ranging movement of people, particularly | :20:31. | :20:32.
those who disagree with Jeremy Hunt issues like Syria, or Jeremy will | :20:33. | :20:38.
reflect on what has been said by colleagues, calm things down and | :20:39. | :20:41.
maybe have some minor changes -- those who disagree with Jeremy on | :20:42. | :20:46.
issues like Syria. At identity it can justify the briefing from the | :20:47. | :20:50.
top of the party over the Christmas period which has been briefing | :20:51. | :20:54.
against people who had defences with Jeremy, whether Hilary Benn on Syria | :20:55. | :20:58.
or Maria Eagle on Trident. If readers want to conduct reshuffle | :20:59. | :21:02.
is, of course they should. But I think Jeremy needs to rein in some | :21:03. | :21:06.
of those around him busy briefing against colleagues. That is what has | :21:07. | :21:11.
given rise to the revenge reshuffle? Absolutely, and I think two things | :21:12. | :21:14.
have happened in the media. One is that speculation, this briefing has | :21:15. | :21:23.
led to wider speculation. Undoubtedly, when you have as many | :21:24. | :21:29.
newspapers as we had over Christmas citing sources close to Jeremy | :21:30. | :21:33.
Corbyn, there is no doubt there has been aggressive briefing against | :21:34. | :21:35.
members of the Shadow Cabinet and that is very disappointing. I know | :21:36. | :21:40.
that over Christmas we've had people like Michael Dugher talking about | :21:41. | :21:46.
culture, and the gender of toys, making sure that girls have the | :21:47. | :21:50.
right sort of role models. We've had people talking like Kerry McCarthy, | :21:51. | :21:57.
children's mental health. All of these stories have really been lost. | :21:58. | :22:04.
The quote from Michael Dugher that has been picked up is him talking | :22:05. | :22:08.
about the Labour Party appearing like a cult. I think one of the | :22:09. | :22:15.
things that has come out of the last Shadow Cabinet, appointments for | :22:16. | :22:21.
many members, briefing is going on across the political spectrum. I | :22:22. | :22:26.
think it is about discipline. And that's something the party is | :22:27. | :22:29.
suffering a severe lapse of. And that is not restricted to one wing | :22:30. | :22:34.
of the party. I also think, having been a former journalist, I know | :22:35. | :22:41.
over the Christmas period it is slim pickings in terms of news stories. I | :22:42. | :22:42.
had journalists phoning me up constantly asking me what is going | :22:43. | :22:46.
to happen, do you think this or that will happen. I said I don't know. | :22:47. | :22:49.
This could happen, that could happen, I simply don't know. And | :22:50. | :22:54.
then you find those comments and so on are being turned into people | :22:55. | :22:57.
close to Jeremy Corbyn saying a, B and C. But you kind of brush it all | :22:58. | :23:04.
off, but King Power Stadium former Labour minister says she has never | :23:05. | :23:09.
seen the party in such a deplorable state, you've got to have an | :23:10. | :23:11.
opposition and we What we have to be very careful of | :23:12. | :23:20.
here is that over the Christmas period people worth phoning me up as | :23:21. | :23:26.
a Shadow Minister period people worth phoning me up as | :23:27. | :23:31.
but they were not asking me about floods, they were asking me about | :23:32. | :23:36.
Jeremy Corbyn's reshuffle. I don't think it's fair to blame simply | :23:37. | :23:40.
Jeremy Corbyn. He is the leader of the Labour Party and entitled to | :23:41. | :23:43.
make changes to the Shadow Cabinet. If we accept that then this is a | :23:44. | :23:48.
nonstory. I think where Wes is right is that what we want to see and we | :23:49. | :23:52.
will continue to seek a broad Shadow Cabinet. There will be differences | :23:53. | :23:57.
of opinion. You can't have a politburo of a Shadow Cabinet, it | :23:58. | :24:00.
does not work, there are not enough people around Jeremy Corbyn to do | :24:01. | :24:03.
that. He has to reach out and he has. The initial Shadow Cabinet was | :24:04. | :24:09.
brave and inclusive. I think the Shadow Cabinet we will have | :24:10. | :24:12.
afterwards will also be open and inclusive but it is about managing | :24:13. | :24:16.
it in a way that makes sure those messages can come out and do work. | :24:17. | :24:19.
At the moment there has been a lack of discipline across the party and | :24:20. | :24:23.
in the Shadow Cabinet. We need to get our act together, I completely | :24:24. | :24:29.
agree. In my city of Norwich, we have been on Black about twice | :24:30. | :24:36.
ready. We have flooding across vast swathes of the North. We have a | :24:37. | :24:39.
government failing on climate change, on renewables. There is so | :24:40. | :24:45.
much to attack this government on. We want to do this. We can blame the | :24:46. | :24:48.
much to attack this government on. sort ourselves out and that means | :24:49. | :24:51.
discipline across the party. Wes? My problem is I don't really blame | :24:52. | :24:57.
media, I think these rooms are entirely self-inflicted. | :24:58. | :25:01.
media, I think these rooms are lot of time reading the newspapers | :25:02. | :25:02.
over Christmas, lot of time reading the newspapers | :25:03. | :25:05.
to actually read newspapers and lot of time reading the newspapers | :25:06. | :25:11.
the party. I think a lot happened when Jeremy Corbyn was on holiday, | :25:12. | :25:15.
so I'm not saying he has been picking up the phone, I'm sure he | :25:16. | :25:18.
has better things to do with his time. But I think there are some | :25:19. | :25:25.
people around Jeremy who gets carried away and he needs to rein | :25:26. | :25:25.
them in. It is actually there are loads of issues we could be taking | :25:26. | :25:30.
the Tories to task on. Identifying they are unbeatable, I think they | :25:31. | :25:33.
have some real problems of their own. Looking at Europe for example. | :25:34. | :25:40.
What is the way to refocus attention, would you say to Jeremy | :25:41. | :25:43.
Corbyn don't go ahead with any reshuffle? That's it. When he got | :25:44. | :25:48.
elected he said he would build a broad | :25:49. | :25:49.
elected he said he would build a the way to move forward. I think it | :25:50. | :25:56.
is up to Jeremy now what he does with the Shadow | :25:57. | :26:02.
is up to Jeremy now what he does But is it in Labour's best interests | :26:03. | :26:02.
for there not But is it in Labour's best interests | :26:03. | :26:03.
political party having a with eight numbers, but it is looked | :26:04. | :26:16.
at who is moving where and why and I accept that. | :26:17. | :26:19.
at who is moving where and why and I described it as a revenge | :26:20. | :26:24.
at who is moving where and why and I it. It is just a reshuffle. Wes says | :26:25. | :26:29.
that is coming from all the briefing coming out of the party? If we | :26:30. | :26:33.
accept that briefing has come from across the party, the problem I | :26:34. | :26:34.
think many of my members have about across the party, the problem I | :26:35. | :26:44.
relevance of the Shadow Cabinet. Wes will say | :26:45. | :26:47.
relevance of the Shadow Cabinet. Wes Corbyn, I will say it is | :26:48. | :26:47.
relevance of the Shadow Cabinet. Wes of discipline is not constricted to | :26:48. | :26:52.
one side of the party, it of discipline is not constricted to | :26:53. | :26:56.
sorted out. You are both new of discipline is not constricted to | :26:57. | :27:01.
with that limited experience under your belt as MPs, how has it changed | :27:02. | :27:08.
your perspective on politics, do you feel disillusioned? Is this | :27:09. | :27:12.
democracy in action? This doesn't feel very much like new politics to | :27:13. | :27:17.
me at the moment. And I think that there are lots of ways, even in | :27:18. | :27:21.
opposition, you can make a real difference to people's lives, by | :27:22. | :27:27.
fundamentally focusing on the issues that matter to them. I have issues | :27:28. | :27:30.
in my local NHS, issues around people commuting, school places | :27:31. | :27:33.
crunch being felt by parents. These are the sorts of issues I want us to | :27:34. | :27:37.
be focusing on. There is a debate to be had about the Labour Party but it | :27:38. | :27:41.
would be better to have that debate in an open, how and inclusive way. | :27:42. | :27:45.
That's one of the reasons why I found the framing around this we | :27:46. | :27:48.
shuffle so unnecessary and self-destructive. I agree in terms | :27:49. | :27:54.
of looking at the issues with the elections coming in May. Elections | :27:55. | :27:57.
in Scotland, local elections across elections coming in May. Elections | :27:58. | :28:02.
the country, a Conservative Party which I think is undermining | :28:03. | :28:04.
democracy, hurting the poorest and most vulnerable. There are lots of | :28:05. | :28:08.
issues where we can take the fight to them. But I also think it is | :28:09. | :28:13.
important as a party that we begin to accept that our party has | :28:14. | :28:16.
shifted, it has changed, the centre of gravity has changed. Some people | :28:17. | :28:23.
in the PLP have not accepted that but I think the vast majority of the | :28:24. | :28:30.
Labour Party have accepted it. Many of us are now becoming tired of what | :28:31. | :28:34.
seems to be the incessant inward narcissistic outlook. And what we | :28:35. | :28:41.
want to see is the party Unite, come together and take on the people we | :28:42. | :28:44.
were put here to take on, the Tories. Thank you very much, and let | :28:45. | :28:50.
us know your thoughts on that as well as everything else we are | :28:51. | :28:52.
talking about here today. Also still to come, we will have the | :28:53. | :29:00.
latest news, and in sport, after Ben Stokes's record-breaking innings | :29:01. | :29:06.
hitting the fastest 250, we will talk to his dad who was there in | :29:07. | :29:10.
Cape Town to watch his son. Here are some of the records he and his | :29:11. | :29:13.
partner Jonathan Bester broke yesterday. | :29:14. | :29:48.
Some British children are eating their own body weight | :29:49. | :29:51.
in sugar every year - that's almost 5,500 sugar cubes, | :29:52. | :29:54.
which is the weight of an average five year old. | :29:55. | :29:58.
Over a year us kids eat and drink a whopping 5543 sugar cubes. | :29:59. | :30:05.
That's more than a kid like me weighs, and I'm five. | :30:06. | :30:12.
Sugar is lurking in our everyday food and drinks. | :30:13. | :30:16.
Just one can of cola contains nine whole sugar cubes. | :30:17. | :30:21.
Because we eat and drink too much sugar we get painful toothache | :30:22. | :30:25.
Thousands of us even end up in hospital, having | :30:26. | :30:30.
We may look fine on the outside but too much sugar can lead | :30:31. | :30:36.
to the build-up of harmful fat on the inside that we can't see. | :30:37. | :30:39.
This fat can cause serious diseases as we grow older including type two | :30:40. | :30:42.
diabetes, some cancers and even heart disease. | :30:43. | :30:53.
Now parents are being urged to control the amount | :30:54. | :30:56.
of sugar their families eat by using a new app being launched | :30:57. | :30:59.
today by the Government-backed health campaign Change4life. | :31:00. | :31:03.
It logs all the sugar contained in the food and drinks you consume, | :31:04. | :31:06.
and lets you know if you or your kids are going over | :31:07. | :31:09.
It's being backed by the singer and TV presenter, Jamelia, | :31:10. | :31:13.
who has two children aged 14 and ten. | :31:14. | :31:15.
She joins us now along with Amanda Ursell, a nutritionist. | :31:16. | :31:21.
Thank you both are coming in. Tell us how you got involved, Jamelia? I | :31:22. | :31:33.
was asked to be a part of the campaign. It was perfect timing. It | :31:34. | :31:39.
is fantastic. I have become quite concerned with the amount of hidden | :31:40. | :31:45.
sugars my daughter were consuming. It has been talked about a lot. I | :31:46. | :31:49.
went to the dentist with my daughter. She needed a filling. I | :31:50. | :31:54.
was like, I don't know how because she does not have sugar. The dentist | :31:55. | :31:59.
kind of said, does she need these kinds of yoghurt and cereal bars? I | :32:00. | :32:03.
was thinking these were healthy things. Would you find out there are | :32:04. | :32:09.
hidden sugars. It was fantastic for me to be asked to do this campaign. | :32:10. | :32:13.
Not only am I being a part of something great, I was being | :32:14. | :32:17.
educated myself. I think it is very important. The sort of things you | :32:18. | :32:23.
are talking about as things a lot of parents think our healthy. What | :32:24. | :32:28.
changes have you implemented? In all honesty, this application has been | :32:29. | :32:33.
fantastic. We have been using it over Christmas a lot. A lot of | :32:34. | :32:38.
shocks and surprises. Using the app it is so simple. It is a case of | :32:39. | :32:47.
scanning the bar code and it tells you. Can you show us? Yes. Of | :32:48. | :32:55.
course. Examples of drinks which are typical. We don't need to refer to | :32:56. | :33:03.
the brands. This is a pouch drink. Five cubes of sugar. What does it | :33:04. | :33:12.
say on the pack? Does not tell you on the pack. The sugar content is | :33:13. | :33:21.
usually in grams. Being told there are five cubes of shiver... To me | :33:22. | :33:28.
that is a lot of sugar. I definitely do not intend to be giving that to | :33:29. | :33:34.
my children. It is these kinds of do not intend to be giving that to | :33:35. | :33:35.
things that are causing the problems that we are seeing. My child is | :33:36. | :33:40.
definitely one of those consuming a five-year-old child's wait worth of | :33:41. | :33:45.
sugar. How easy is it to make informed choices when a lot of the | :33:46. | :33:51.
choices we are making we think our healthy? It is a lot easier now with | :33:52. | :33:57.
this app. I got involved as well. I trained as a dietician. You would | :33:58. | :34:00.
think I would know what I was doing. Yet there were surprises to me, too. | :34:01. | :34:10.
When you learn that children are having three times the amount of | :34:11. | :34:11.
shiver that this recommends as a maximum, 60 grams a day, when they | :34:12. | :34:18.
should be having 19 grams... 5500 sugar cubes, as you saw in that | :34:19. | :34:24.
wonderful film, which I think is a great film to watch because it would | :34:25. | :34:29.
be brings it home. It is just standing back and saying, OK, a | :34:30. | :34:34.
little bit here, a little bit there. There is a temptation to fall into | :34:35. | :34:38.
the filling it does not matter. It does add up. When Jamelia and I were | :34:39. | :34:45.
making the film for a miniseries, we had split pot yoghurt and both of us | :34:46. | :34:49.
nearly fell over backwards when we found there were nearly 20 grams of | :34:50. | :34:56.
shiver at -- shiver in the yoghurt. For a four to six-year-olds that is | :34:57. | :34:59.
more than their day's sugars, which is 19 grams. That is five cubes of | :35:00. | :35:04.
sugar. When you get to the seven to ten-year-olds that is six cubes. A | :35:05. | :35:12.
muffin as 20 grams of sugar. The messages we have known for a long | :35:13. | :35:20.
time about healthy eating. It is difficult to grasp it until it is | :35:21. | :35:26.
spelt out. I think that is one of the things that is most important, | :35:27. | :35:32.
to simplify the information. I am one of these parents who, I am doing | :35:33. | :35:37.
the school run, I feel like I have not got the time to check the sugar | :35:38. | :35:43.
content of everything. But having a nap on my phone that allows me to | :35:44. | :35:48.
check. I checked something in the car the other day. The girls had | :35:49. | :35:52.
this water. We were like, OK, we cannot have that again. They are | :35:53. | :35:58.
loving using the app. My girls are 14 and ten. They are aware of the | :35:59. | :36:04.
hazards associated with too much sugar. I really do think it is | :36:05. | :36:12.
fantastic. I think it is great. It also allows them to be more aware. | :36:13. | :36:15.
That is what we need to encourage. It is not only educating parents. It | :36:16. | :36:21.
is informing our children so they go on to live lives as healthy adults. | :36:22. | :36:25.
If it becomes simple and clear to apply, do you think there is an EA | :36:26. | :36:32.
excuse for someone to let their child have too much sugar? -- any | :36:33. | :36:39.
excuse. I am definitely not in the way of making anybody feel bad. I | :36:40. | :36:44.
understand that we have time constraints, we have some money | :36:45. | :36:49.
pressures as parents. But I do believe that if something is offered | :36:50. | :36:51.
to us, believe that if something is offered | :36:52. | :36:55.
for free, we should. I want to do the best for my children. I | :36:56. | :37:01.
for free, we should. I want to do lifestyle. I think having something | :37:02. | :37:04.
at my fingertips is a fantastic asset. I definitely would like to | :37:05. | :37:08.
take advantage. I would like to encourage other parents to do the | :37:09. | :37:13.
same. You said before that shops should not stop plus size clothes. I | :37:14. | :37:21.
did not exactly say that. I will not go into the description of it. Is | :37:22. | :37:25.
there go into the description of it. Is | :37:26. | :37:29.
would suggest is that we all become aware and conscious of our health, | :37:30. | :37:35.
the future of our children and ourselves. It is very important to | :37:36. | :37:38.
encourage society to be healthy. I don't want my children to have any | :37:39. | :37:43.
health risks in the future and I don't want to contribute to that. I | :37:44. | :37:49.
feel we need to take care of ourselves and take care of each | :37:50. | :37:49.
other. That is important. ourselves and take care of each | :37:50. | :37:54.
really good point. When we talk about sugar, it has got these hidden | :37:55. | :37:56.
effects. It about sugar, it has got these hidden | :37:57. | :38:02.
know that. But also, too much about sugar, it has got these hidden | :38:03. | :38:10.
does lead to a risk of obesity. As the film showed, you don't actually | :38:11. | :38:13.
see the damage it is causing. When fat | :38:14. | :38:19.
see the damage it is causing. When increases the risk of heart disease, | :38:20. | :38:21.
type certain cancers. As a parent they | :38:22. | :38:26.
are things you don't think about when they are having a lollipop. You | :38:27. | :38:35.
are right. Being informed as a parent and being given this simple | :38:36. | :38:35.
information is Raly helpful because it brings it right back down to the | :38:36. | :38:43.
grassroots. How you feed your children is going to affect them | :38:44. | :38:45.
now, children is going to affect them | :38:46. | :38:48.
with their health. Giving children the opportunity to take control of | :38:49. | :38:53.
with their health. Giving children themselves. Should there be a sugar | :38:54. | :38:58.
tax? I think anything that promotes a healthy outcome for our children | :38:59. | :39:05.
is worth it. I really do. A lot of parents will say and you alluded to | :39:06. | :39:09.
it earlier, I am busy. To feed my children more healthily is | :39:10. | :39:14.
expensive. What do you say to parents who say that? Honestly, I | :39:15. | :39:21.
think my children are worth the effort. I don't think it takes too | :39:22. | :39:28.
long. I am on the phone, I am on Twitter, I am an Instagram. I have | :39:29. | :39:33.
time for a social media. I have time to use my app and check whether or | :39:34. | :39:36.
not I'm giving my children too much sugar. It is as simple as that. Is | :39:37. | :39:41.
it bad parenting if you do not take it seriously enough? I genuinely | :39:42. | :39:49.
don't think it is bad parenting. It is not about telling anybody they | :39:50. | :39:52.
are a bad parent or anything like that. We need to continue to | :39:53. | :39:57.
educate, to educate each other, to be educated, to take our lives | :39:58. | :40:04.
seriously. It is New Year and everyone is so hell-bent on renewing | :40:05. | :40:07.
themselves and rejuvenating themselves, why not include your | :40:08. | :40:12.
children in that? If you take your kids along with you it makes the | :40:13. | :40:15.
difference. That is the difficulty for any parent. Of course. Thank you | :40:16. | :40:24.
both. We are going to introduce one of your old friends now. We are | :40:25. | :40:26.
going to talk about the weather. It is lovely to see you. Nice to see | :40:27. | :40:37.
you without your dance shoes as well! Fabulous shoes. Jamelia always | :40:38. | :40:46.
cuts a dash, even in our trainers! Do you think you will keep up with | :40:47. | :40:52.
the dancing? May be on the dance floor in a club. We will see. No! | :40:53. | :41:02.
You could have told me this was going to happen. Moving on. What is | :41:03. | :41:14.
the weather?! Lovely to see you. Today's weather is quite unsettled. | :41:15. | :41:17.
Lots of people have been asking us why we have had the weather we have | :41:18. | :41:23.
had, with all of the rain and the floods. To look back at December, | :41:24. | :41:28.
this is the kind of rainfall we had. Hardly surprisingly we did have | :41:29. | :41:34.
problems with flooding. A lot of it is to do with the jet stream. The | :41:35. | :41:36.
general trend of the jet stream in December was this. A huge great big | :41:37. | :41:41.
undulation which meant we sucked in a lot of south-westerly winds. | :41:42. | :41:45.
Pulling in tropical air from the tropics. When you have got warm air | :41:46. | :41:56.
it tends to hold more moisture. The storms in December was all of that | :41:57. | :42:00.
extra moisture landing honours. It is not surprising we had those | :42:01. | :42:04.
flooding issues. We do have more heavy rain today, which could lead | :42:05. | :42:09.
to some or flooding. Generally the trend for January is this. Over here | :42:10. | :42:15.
we have got a big area of high pressure in Moscow. Last night the | :42:16. | :42:22.
temperatures were minus 20. This is changing the orientation of the jet | :42:23. | :42:26.
stream. If you remember, we had all of these undulations during | :42:27. | :42:31.
December. It is now further south and it is flatter. It is taking the | :42:32. | :42:35.
tropical air that we had along the Mediterranean. That is where it is | :42:36. | :42:39.
good to be particularly wet. What we have instead are lower temperatures. | :42:40. | :42:43.
We will not be holding as much moisture. The rain will not be of | :42:44. | :42:48.
the magnitude we have seen. It does not mean that we will not still have | :42:49. | :42:53.
low pressure. It will also turn colder, with temperatures closer to | :42:54. | :42:57.
where they should be. We will see some snow in Central and northern | :42:58. | :43:06.
areas. I did not even give you a chance to get a word in! I liked | :43:07. | :43:12.
listening to you. Lucio, Joanna. You are such a sweetheart. Today's | :43:13. | :43:17.
forecast is still rather wet. For the next few days they will be rain | :43:18. | :43:23.
at times. It will be windy and colder than it has been. Tablature | :43:24. | :43:27.
is closer to where they should be. Once again we are starting with a | :43:28. | :43:33.
Met Office weather warning for heavy rain. It is for north-east Scotland. | :43:34. | :43:37.
The risk of localised flooding. We're looking at 100 millimetres | :43:38. | :43:42.
plus. It has been fairly persistent in the last couple of days and will | :43:43. | :43:46.
be again today, tonight and tomorrow. It is courtesy of this | :43:47. | :43:52.
area of low pressure. A lot of showers as well. If you look at | :43:53. | :43:56.
these isobars, that is telling you it is windy. A strong wind coming in | :43:57. | :44:00.
the off the North Sea. That is whipping up some large waves. The | :44:01. | :44:04.
rain will turn to snow over the Grampians. Snow moving across | :44:05. | :44:10.
northern England later in the day, particularly the North East. That | :44:11. | :44:16.
continues into the afternoon across Scotland. Rain in the east. Still | :44:17. | :44:23.
windy. As we slip southwards, it is that mixture of bright spells, | :44:24. | :44:26.
sunshine and showers. Wendy this morning across the English Channel. | :44:27. | :44:32.
In the afternoon it will still be windy but not as windy as this | :44:33. | :44:36.
morning. Showers merging. Longer spells of rain in the south-west of | :44:37. | :44:43.
England and South Wales. For North Wales, drier and brighter. We are | :44:44. | :44:47.
not immune to a shower. Similar in Northern Ireland. Heading through | :44:48. | :44:52.
the evening and overnight, we continue in this vein. Rain in | :44:53. | :44:57.
eastern Scotland and eastern England. Still a lot of showers and | :44:58. | :45:05.
the snow following. It will be cold in the northern half of the country | :45:06. | :45:08.
by day and by night. Milder as we move further south. Note heatwave. | :45:09. | :45:13.
Tomorrow the low-pressure centre is here. The winds still gusty but not | :45:14. | :45:19.
as strong as today. We continue with the persistent rain in eastern | :45:20. | :45:23.
Scotland. Snow on the hills. Move away from that and it is drier and | :45:24. | :45:27.
brighter. They will be fewer showers. There will still be some | :45:28. | :45:35.
showers around. A cold for degrees in the north to 11 in the South. | :45:36. | :45:40.
I'm Joanna Gosling, in for Victoria Derbyshire. | :45:41. | :45:43.
Welcome to the programme if you've just joined us. | :45:44. | :45:45.
Coming up before 11: In her latest video diary for this programme | :45:46. | :45:48.
on her treatment for breast cancer, Victoria talks about chemotherapy | :45:49. | :45:50.
and how hard it is to cope with some of the side effects. | :45:51. | :45:56.
I have lost about 30 to 50% of my hair. | :45:57. | :46:15.
Thanks for all your comments - we'll read some of them | :46:16. | :46:20.
And you can see the full film and Victoria's previous diaries | :46:21. | :46:24.
on our programme page [email protected]. | :46:25. | :46:34.
Also coming up, who is the man with the British accent who features in | :46:35. | :46:41.
the latest video from the extremist group so called Islamic State | :46:42. | :46:44.
threatening to attack the UK? We'll have all the details on the | :46:45. | :46:55.
challenge to identify him. Can Simon Danczuk survived the threats to his | :46:56. | :46:58.
political life? He has been suspended from the Labour Party over | :46:59. | :47:01.
allegations he exchanged explicit text messages with a 17-year-old. | :47:02. | :47:05.
We'll get reaction on those revelations. | :47:06. | :47:09.
Security services are trying to establish the identity | :47:10. | :47:13.
of a masked man with a British accent in a video released | :47:14. | :47:16.
The propaganda film apparently shows the killing of five people accused | :47:17. | :47:20.
All Iranian diplomats in Saudi Arabia have been given 48 | :47:21. | :47:32.
hours to leave, after the kingdom cut off diplomatic ties with Tehran. | :47:33. | :47:34.
It follows the Saudis' execution of an influential | :47:35. | :47:36.
Sweden introduces new border checks for all travellers from Denmark, | :47:37. | :47:43.
for the first time in over half a century, in an attempt to reduce | :47:44. | :47:46.
Travellers without the right documents are being refused entry. | :47:47. | :47:55.
The government is to allow small builders to construct new affordable | :47:56. | :48:06.
homes on public land in the latest attempt to stimulate house-building. | :48:07. | :48:09.
David Cameron says nothing is more important than ensuring hard-working | :48:10. | :48:12.
people can afford to buy affordable homes. Labour accuses him of spin. | :48:13. | :48:16.
And parents are urged to use a new app to keep track of sugar | :48:17. | :48:19.
content in their children's food and drink. | :48:20. | :48:21.
Officials say children aged between four and ten currently get | :48:22. | :48:24.
through 22 kilos of added sugar a year - | :48:25. | :48:26.
more than the weight of the average five-year-old. | :48:27. | :48:34.
Let's catch up with all the sport now and join Jess. | :48:35. | :48:39.
Good morning. the second test. I am joined by a | :48:40. | :48:53.
Test match special and Tait from Cape Town to | :48:54. | :49:01.
Test match special and Tait from react to such an historic knock? | :49:02. | :49:03.
Good morning. Anybody and Newlands yesterday knew that they were | :49:04. | :49:08.
witnessing something that might only happen to a player once in their | :49:09. | :49:12.
lifetime, it might be an innings you only witness once-in-a-lifetime. It | :49:13. | :49:17.
was extraordinary, the fastest ever 250 in Test matches for Ben Stokes. | :49:18. | :49:22.
And nobody has ever scored 130 in a prelunch session before. The most | :49:23. | :49:25.
destructive innings I have ever seen. It was clear to see | :49:26. | :49:33.
destructive innings I have ever players last night back at the hotel | :49:34. | :49:33.
and even this morning still marvelling | :49:34. | :49:37.
Really was a fantastic performance. Today South Africa hoping to make | :49:38. | :49:39.
Really was a fantastic performance. dent in the first innings total of | :49:40. | :49:44.
623, or 6209I should say, how are they getting on? It has been hard | :49:45. | :49:49.
going for the batsmen this morning. They have not lost a wicket yet. As | :49:50. | :49:54.
I say that, a B de Villiers is launching the spinner Moeen Ali | :49:55. | :49:58.
backdown the ground. Boundaries had been hard to come by. There was a | :49:59. | :50:05.
boundary earlier off Stuart Broad. De Villiers brings up his 50. Amla | :50:06. | :50:13.
was dropped a few moments ago by James Anderson at first slip, Joe | :50:14. | :50:18.
Root was the bowler. Brought on for some part-time spin. The chance has | :50:19. | :50:26.
gone down. South Africa now 180-2. Still a hefty number of runs behind | :50:27. | :50:31.
England. In the Premier League, Chelsea's temporary manager Guus | :50:32. | :50:33.
Hiddink says a Champions League spot is still possible after their first | :50:34. | :50:37.
win since he replaced Jose Mourinho. They beat Crystal Palace 3-0 away at | :50:38. | :50:42.
Selhurst Park yesterday. A boost for the defending champions who rise to | :50:43. | :50:47.
14th in the table. After the game Captain John Terry apologised | :50:48. | :50:49.
14th in the table. After the game start of the season and admits the | :50:50. | :50:53.
players let everyone down. This league has become so strong that | :50:54. | :50:58.
everyone can win from everywhere. So it means that it is very difficult | :50:59. | :51:02.
to get there. But as long as we play like that we can be happy, and | :51:03. | :51:10.
automatically then the results will come. It is possible, still, but a | :51:11. | :51:13.
long way to go. The first of the two world darts championship is over | :51:14. | :51:16.
with Gary Anderson retaining the PDC crown at Alexander Palace last | :51:17. | :51:21.
night. He beat Adrian Lewis 7-5 in the final which included a 170 | :51:22. | :51:26.
checkout in the final set. He takes a cheque for ?300,000. And the | :51:27. | :51:32.
checkout in the final set. He takes World Championship continues on BBC | :51:33. | :51:34.
Two today from PM. Just before I go at 10:30am here I will be chatting | :51:35. | :51:41.
live with Ben Stokes's dad after his son's record-breaking innings for | :51:42. | :51:42.
England. So I'll be back at 10:30am. Welcome to the programme | :51:43. | :51:55.
just joined us, on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel until 11am. | :51:56. | :51:57.
Throughout the programme we'll bring you the latest developing news and | :51:58. | :52:00.
stories and we are keen to hear from you on all the stories we are | :52:01. | :52:04.
talking about. Your contributions to this programme and your expertise | :52:05. | :52:09.
really are key. Loads of you getting in touch with us this morning about | :52:10. | :52:13.
Victoria's latest video diary which we brought you just after 9:15am. | :52:14. | :52:19.
Laura Drake says, wow, what a brave lady. Such a huge amount of respect | :52:20. | :52:22.
for Victoria, what an inspiration. This one says it did grow back, and | :52:23. | :53:13.
even more profuse than before, great excitement when it started going. | :53:14. | :53:21.
Good luck with the rest of treatment. The radiotherapy is | :53:22. | :53:24.
tedious but a doddle compared with chemo. This one says, thank you | :53:25. | :53:30.
Victoria, my journey has been weekly chemo and the most distressing part | :53:31. | :53:34.
has been my hair loss. Thank you for your diary. If you want to watch the | :53:35. | :53:39.
full diary or share it, you can find it on the website. We will play some | :53:40. | :53:45.
more of Victoria's diary of a little later. | :53:46. | :53:48.
British security and intelligence agencies are examining the latest | :53:49. | :53:57.
video by so-called Islamic State. It appears to show a man and young boy | :53:58. | :54:02.
with British accents. In the 11 minute film, five men accused of | :54:03. | :54:05.
spying for Britain are reportedly shot dead. The man with the British | :54:06. | :54:11.
accent is also seen addressing David Cameron, mocking the RAF bombing | :54:12. | :54:14.
campaign against IS in Syria, and issues this threat. | :54:15. | :54:26.
Our security correspondent, Frank Gardner, is here. | :54:27. | :54:37.
Thank you both for coming in. What do you make of this latest video? It | :54:38. | :54:46.
shows they are under pressure. This is the sort of thing they do every | :54:47. | :54:49.
time they are under pressure, particularly through aerial bombing. | :54:50. | :54:53.
But I think it is also a very interesting insight into the | :54:54. | :54:58.
mindset, into how they define Sixtus, and how they see the West in | :54:59. | :55:05.
particular -- define success. In what way? They are saying in Iraq | :55:06. | :55:09.
and Afghanistan you are effectively ran away and duplication is that you | :55:10. | :55:14.
are going to run away and allow us to continue -- the implication. The | :55:15. | :55:19.
view that they have of the world is that the West lacks stamina, lacks | :55:20. | :55:24.
the commitment, and eventually it will lose interest and they will | :55:25. | :55:28.
survive and the West will decline. will lose interest and they will | :55:29. | :55:30.
And that's the dangerous idea that is motivating them and their | :55:31. | :55:34.
supporters. What are your thoughts on the latest video, Frank? I agree, | :55:35. | :55:41.
but part of it is also trying to warn people in Iraq are and other | :55:42. | :55:46.
areas under their control, don't report as. This is the fate, bullet | :55:47. | :55:51.
in the back of the head for anybody who dares to spy on us. Because IS | :55:52. | :55:58.
don't distinguish between citizen bloggers who are simply getting news | :55:59. | :56:01.
out to the outside world of what life is like under their rule, and | :56:02. | :56:06.
somebody who might be a paid-up informant for a Western intelligence | :56:07. | :56:09.
agency. As far as they are concerned, they are all spies and | :56:10. | :56:13.
they just want to eliminate them and warn others not to do that. The | :56:14. | :56:18.
person with a British accent already being described as a new Jihadi | :56:19. | :56:22.
John, how much of a propaganda coup if this? I certainly don't think it | :56:23. | :56:26.
is a coup, it will probably be a short list attempt by this guy to | :56:27. | :56:32.
take on the mantle of Mohammed Mohammed Emwazi, or so-called Jihadi | :56:33. | :56:36.
John. It's not going to be difficult for spooks to work out who he is, | :56:37. | :56:39.
his eyes are showing, his voice is not the skies, they probably already | :56:40. | :56:45.
know. I doubt anybody in government will confirm it because this is | :56:46. | :56:49.
somebody who is going to probably end up my guess is on a target | :56:50. | :56:52.
missed in the way that other British jihadis have, who has visibly killed | :56:53. | :56:57.
people on camera and threatened their own country. What sort of | :56:58. | :57:02.
resources would you imagine would be being directed by now at finding out | :57:03. | :57:06.
who he is and try to take him out in the same way Mohammed Mohammed | :57:07. | :57:09.
Emwazi was? I think the resources will be voice analysis and facial | :57:10. | :57:14.
recognition, which can be done partially with the eyes. As Frank | :57:15. | :57:21.
has set I think it is very likely there is a very good idea as to his | :57:22. | :57:27.
identity. And he may well already be on a target list, and he will be | :57:28. | :57:32.
visited by something from the air in the near future. How would you | :57:33. | :57:38.
assess our position now, after Britain got involved in the air | :57:39. | :57:41.
strikes against Syria? Is this a direct reaction to that, and are we | :57:42. | :57:47.
at a materially greater threat? It is a direct reaction to the air | :57:48. | :57:51.
strike decision in Parliament, but are we in a greater threat? I'm not | :57:52. | :57:55.
sure we are. Essentially we have been attacking IS both in Syria and | :57:56. | :58:02.
Iraq, albeit at a lower level. We have attacked targets in Syria using | :58:03. | :58:08.
drones. So I'm not sure we are at any greater threat. These things, | :58:09. | :58:12.
the only reason that the Prime Minister could get the votes through | :58:13. | :58:15.
Parliament was because they had attacked British interests in | :58:16. | :58:19.
Tunisia and abroad. They have attacked Europeans. And almost | :58:20. | :58:25.
certainly their supporters will be attacking us today, yesterday, if | :58:26. | :58:31.
they had the opportunity. I am not sure we are at a greater threat. In | :58:32. | :58:35.
fact hopefully if this campaign actually morphs into an effective | :58:36. | :58:42.
strategy against Daesh we will be restricting the threat. What we need | :58:43. | :58:48.
is a strategy that has the aim of destroying this organisation. That | :58:49. | :58:55.
is what is missing. Once we have that, I think we will be a lot safer | :58:56. | :58:56.
is what is missing. Once we have than we are now. Going back to what | :58:57. | :58:59.
you were saying earlier about the perception that the West lacks | :59:00. | :59:03.
stamina, that is borne out, is it not, by what has happened in the | :59:04. | :59:08.
past? To some degree it is. And I think what we need here is a | :59:09. | :59:13.
strategy that is short-term, that takes away the defining identity of | :59:14. | :59:19.
this organisation which is territory. And that is relatively | :59:20. | :59:25.
quick and easy to do compared to, for example, Al-Qaeda, which defined | :59:26. | :59:35.
itself as an operationally capable operation. We must leave this, we | :59:36. | :59:39.
are expecting Simon Danczuk is about to leave his home or office. Our | :59:40. | :59:47.
reporter is there outside his constituency office in Rochdale. | :59:48. | :59:51.
What is happening? He has just come out, here. We are live outside his | :59:52. | :00:01.
constituency at the moment, this is the first time he is speaking about | :00:02. | :00:08.
these allegations over the weekend. I have been in the constituency most | :00:09. | :00:12.
of the week. We are getting around and doing what MPs do, meeting | :00:13. | :00:16.
constituents, learning about what the issues are and things. Mr | :00:17. | :00:21.
Dancuzk, you are live on the news channel, BBC. What is your reaction | :00:22. | :00:30.
to these allegations. Your former girlfriend said that your drinking | :00:31. | :00:35.
problems were affecting your ability to be a member of Parliament. | :00:36. | :00:47.
it is not further ex-wives are ex-girlfriends to determine who the | :00:48. | :00:53.
MP for Rochdale is. I'm going to have a good chat to the people of | :00:54. | :01:01.
Ross Taylor by this. It is nice to have come to Sears. Thank you very | :01:02. | :01:04.
much. Some of your constituents feel it would be wise for you to step | :01:05. | :01:11.
down. What do you say to that? Mr Danczuk? | :01:12. | :01:21.
OK, that was Simon Dan choke, MP for Rochdale. As you heard, he said was | :01:22. | :01:28.
up to the constituents to decide whether he step down after the | :01:29. | :01:32.
allegations that were reported in the paper over the weekend. Let's | :01:33. | :01:40.
remind you what they were. He was accused of sending texts to a | :01:41. | :01:44.
17-year-old girl saying inappropriate things. She said that | :01:45. | :01:50.
she felt quite worried about it after she received them. Then he | :01:51. | :01:54.
came out and told a tabloid newspaper yesterday that the reason | :01:55. | :01:59.
he had sent them was because he had a drinking problem. A former | :02:00. | :02:04.
girlfriend, Claire Hamilton, says she broke up with him a few days | :02:05. | :02:10.
ago, on the 27th of December, the day after Boxing Day, because she | :02:11. | :02:12.
could not take it any more. She felt day after Boxing Day, because she | :02:13. | :02:18.
his drinking had got out of control and she was encouraging him to get | :02:19. | :02:21.
some help. We have not heard from him about those allegations. | :02:22. | :02:27.
Hopefully we will in the not too distant future. Have you been able | :02:28. | :02:30.
to speak to many constituents further their views on what is going | :02:31. | :02:40.
on? He was saying it is for the residents of Rochdale to determine | :02:41. | :02:43.
Horwill is their MP. I spent the day here yesterday and spoke to many | :02:44. | :02:48.
people. It was difficult to find anybody who felt he should stay in | :02:49. | :02:53.
his position. There was a lot of negativity. A lot of people felt | :02:54. | :02:55.
they had been let down. -- let down. negativity. A lot of people felt | :02:56. | :03:01.
Those people who did vote for him said they voted for the party rather | :03:02. | :03:06.
than him. It will not be up to them. It will be up to the Labour Party, | :03:07. | :03:09.
who will be carrying out an investigation. They will make a | :03:10. | :03:12.
decision on whether he needs to step down and whether there could be a | :03:13. | :03:18.
by-election in this constituency. Yankee very much. | :03:19. | :03:24.
Liz Thirsk is a Liberal Democrat councillor for Rochdale, | :03:25. | :03:26.
And John Blundell is a Labour councillor who is backing him. | :03:27. | :03:31.
First of all to you John, we heard him say that it is for the residents | :03:32. | :03:44.
to decide on his future. Is it suitable for him to be an MP? People | :03:45. | :03:51.
are very disappointed. They are very saddened by the way it has gone. | :03:52. | :03:55.
People think it is distasteful about the way this young girl has been | :03:56. | :03:59.
treated. She has had her name dragged through the Kell Brook. It | :04:00. | :04:07.
is a nice episode. Should he go? Ultimately it is down to | :04:08. | :04:11.
constituents. If a number of people are against him being an MP, that | :04:12. | :04:16.
should be the case. We cannot listen to a select few who do not like him. | :04:17. | :04:19.
It has to be about his popular support in Rochdale. He has been | :04:20. | :04:25.
suspended. There is talk about him potentially being suspended for life | :04:26. | :04:30.
from the Labour Party. The Labour Party should have an investigation | :04:31. | :04:36.
into the conduct of MPs when it is questionable. The police have said | :04:37. | :04:39.
he has not done anything illegal. Ultimately the Labour Party will | :04:40. | :04:44.
have its say. As the lady said before, people vote for the Labour | :04:45. | :04:51.
Party. It is not always about the member of Parliament. Liz Thirsk, | :04:52. | :05:01.
former Liberal Democrat councillor, you have organised a demonstration | :05:02. | :05:05.
against Simon Danczuk today. Why have you done that? Have done that | :05:06. | :05:13.
based on his -- these sexual allegations. I feel somebody who has | :05:14. | :05:22.
championed... Instead of telling this young girl, thank you for your | :05:23. | :05:27.
interest in a job, here is your e-mail address, he carried on an | :05:28. | :05:33.
affair with her online. He found out she was 17. She could have been 15. | :05:34. | :05:37.
As for the police, they have not investigated it. He cannot decide he | :05:38. | :05:46.
has got nothing to answer. They have to see what these messages were what | :05:47. | :05:49.
the images were that were sent to him. His former girlfriend says he | :05:50. | :05:54.
has been messaging other young women. The police have said there is | :05:55. | :06:00.
nothing illegal that he has done. They have looked into it. You said | :06:01. | :06:06.
she could have been 15. She was 17. He did not know. I am not having | :06:07. | :06:16.
that. He was the one who said he did not want the whitewash. The new | :06:17. | :06:24.
chief con will will not whitewash this. Until they look and see what | :06:25. | :06:30.
those messages were and who else he has been messaging, we do not know | :06:31. | :06:31.
what he has been doing. You're casting around a lot of allegations. | :06:32. | :06:37.
I am saying he needs to be investigated. He should hand over | :06:38. | :06:44.
his computer, his phone and say, here UART, I have done nothing else. | :06:45. | :06:48.
I don't think he will. If he doesn't, they should take them. We | :06:49. | :06:55.
have got a big problem in this time with child sexual and eight on. I | :06:56. | :06:58.
have had personal experience with this. I have spoken to people who | :06:59. | :07:03.
have. We know how difficult it is for kids to come through this. | :07:04. | :07:10.
People in his position have a legal duty to safeguard. He should have | :07:11. | :07:18.
got in touch with local authorities. He is wrong. The police have said | :07:19. | :07:23.
they have looked at it and he has done nothing illegal. This is | :07:24. | :07:27.
somebody who did not -- he did not meet. I do not believe they have | :07:28. | :07:34.
investigated him. They have looked at these messages and pictures. I | :07:35. | :07:37.
want them to look through his phone and his computer. Let's let John | :07:38. | :07:45.
come in. She does not know that they have not. I believe that the police, | :07:46. | :07:51.
if they have not carried out an investigation properly, they should | :07:52. | :07:52.
have done and they should do. investigation properly, they should | :07:53. | :07:57.
as I am aware, they have done. The Labour Party is carrying out an | :07:58. | :08:01.
investigation into his conduct. The National Executive Committee will | :08:02. | :08:07.
have the final say on that. Liz Thirsk does not like Simon. She does | :08:08. | :08:11.
not like the Rochdale Labour Party. She is not reflective of people's | :08:12. | :08:18.
views in Rochdale. There is a lot of discontent with Simon over what he | :08:19. | :08:22.
has done. He has apologised and he has said he behaved like a fool. But | :08:23. | :08:27.
the idea that Liz Thirsk is reflective of these people's views | :08:28. | :08:32.
is rubbish. Does he need help? He has said he has got a drink problem. | :08:33. | :08:37.
If that is the case he should seek help and he should do it quickly. | :08:38. | :08:42.
Whilst he remains member of Parliament, he has to work through | :08:43. | :08:45.
these issues quickly. Does it undermine all of the hard-working | :08:46. | :08:48.
has done to raise awareness on these issues that have affected his | :08:49. | :08:53.
constituency? I hope it does not undermine the work he has done an | :08:54. | :08:59.
child exploitation. They are very important things. But obviously it | :09:00. | :09:04.
does register in people's heads, why did he do it? That is why he has got | :09:05. | :09:10.
to reconcile with his public if he wants to remain MP. We should not | :09:11. | :09:16.
have a show trial like Liz Thirsk once. Cast doubt over his conduct | :09:17. | :09:24.
and make a decision. I am interested in what the police have to say and | :09:25. | :09:30.
the Labour Party. At the end of the day people voted for the Labour | :09:31. | :09:35.
Party and not necessarily Simon Danczuk. Has he been popular? Until | :09:36. | :09:41.
now, yes. He has had the biggest majority of Rochdale MP has ever | :09:42. | :09:45.
had. There must be immense pressure on him at the heart of a storm like | :09:46. | :09:50.
this? Hissy somebody you know well? He is my MP and I am a Labour | :09:51. | :09:56.
councillor in Rochdale. I know him fairly well. It will be putting | :09:57. | :09:59.
enormous pressure on him. I should imagine he feels like an idiot. He | :10:00. | :10:04.
has behaved like an idiot. He has admitted that. If it is down to a | :10:05. | :10:15.
drink problem, he must address it. Some of his friends who have been | :10:16. | :10:16.
quoted in the media anonymously have said it is not fair if he is not | :10:17. | :10:22.
treated like any other MP. He has not been a friend of the new Labour | :10:23. | :10:26.
party leadership. Some suggesting he may be treated differently as a | :10:27. | :10:32.
result. I hope not. I think it would be foolish of Jeremy Corbyn to get | :10:33. | :10:38.
involved. Is it being treated in an evenhanded way so far? Yes. Simon | :10:39. | :10:45.
has doubts over Ken Livingstone. At the end of the day they are the | :10:46. | :10:49.
Labour Party's elected representatives and they will have | :10:50. | :10:54.
the final say. People in Rochdale want to hear the facts. What is the | :10:55. | :11:00.
police said? What of the Labour Party said? We should not pander to | :11:01. | :11:03.
people like Liz Thirsk, who just want to get at him. She is a Liberal | :11:04. | :11:08.
Democrat who lost her seat. Simon could have done anything, he could | :11:09. | :11:12.
have got a parking charge, she would still be calling for a resignation. | :11:13. | :11:17.
She is not representative of people in Rochdale. Thank you very much to | :11:18. | :11:22.
John Blundell and Liz Thirsk. Dental health standards are falling | :11:23. | :11:27.
to third World levels in parts of England because of a crisis of | :11:28. | :11:31.
access to NHS treatment, according to 400 dentists. They have written | :11:32. | :11:40.
to the Daily Telegraph sing it is no national | :11:41. | :11:40.
to the Daily Telegraph sing it is no under the age of ten are more likely | :11:41. | :11:40.
to be treated in hospital for a rotten teeth than any other medical | :11:41. | :11:46.
reason. Doctor Tony Clubb coin is a dentist in height. What moved you to | :11:47. | :11:54.
take action on this? Good morning. The whole dental profession has been | :11:55. | :12:01.
devastated about the levels of child dental health and adult dental | :12:02. | :12:06.
health for a number of years. Our protestations and requests sent to | :12:07. | :12:11.
people who run the NHS dental system seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. | :12:12. | :12:16.
There is must know prevention. Now we have such a sorry state that the | :12:17. | :12:21.
number one reason any child under ten is likely to be hospitalised, | :12:22. | :12:25.
the number one medical reason, is rotten teeth. That is a national | :12:26. | :12:29.
disgrace. What needs to be done to change it? What has been the main | :12:30. | :12:36.
factor? The biggest problem is they raise a massive level of public | :12:37. | :12:41.
ignorance about dental prevention. The national dental strategy is not | :12:42. | :12:45.
aimed at prevention. It is aimed at trying to put out fires. If you are | :12:46. | :12:47.
putting out one fire and trying to put out fires. If you are | :12:48. | :12:52.
fires start, that is useless. In fact the fire service did a | :12:53. | :12:56.
wonderful prevention media campaign to inform the public fires, smoke | :12:57. | :13:02.
inhalation, Rav the lowest they have ever been. There is no reason this | :13:03. | :13:07.
cannot be done for dentistry. Children born today should not be | :13:08. | :13:13.
hospitalised for rotten teeth. Does it boils down to the subject we have | :13:14. | :13:17.
been talking about already today, sugar, and cutting down the intake? | :13:18. | :13:24.
For sure, sugar is the number-1 reason for causing tooth decay and | :13:25. | :13:30.
eventually and bacteria. Sugar is hidden in so many foods. It is not | :13:31. | :13:35.
obvious to people. I am not just talking about a sweet and treats. | :13:36. | :13:39.
Healthy snacks that say on the packet, healthy, and approved by | :13:40. | :13:46.
mothers, sometimes have 60% or 70% sugar in there. People do not | :13:47. | :13:50.
realise how many sugar attacks they are having on their teeth. The | :13:51. | :14:01.
damage is already being done. That damage does not happen overnight. | :14:02. | :14:06.
What has been going on for a child to get to the stage of being | :14:07. | :14:09.
hospitalised? Basically it is the frequency of sugar attacks. A lot of | :14:10. | :14:13.
people do not realise that modern dentistry is about prevention, | :14:14. | :14:17.
regular visits, stopping problems before they start. If people are | :14:18. | :14:20.
bringing children along to the dentist, in pain, in a distressing | :14:21. | :14:25.
situation, they will hardly be receptive to prevention advice. It | :14:26. | :14:29.
is wonderful that you guys are highlighting this to the public so | :14:30. | :14:34.
they realise they need to prevent these problems. There is no central | :14:35. | :14:38.
strategy. What about six monthly checkups? That is standard, isn't | :14:39. | :14:48.
it? The NHS is spread so thin, it is such a limited dental system, that | :14:49. | :14:51.
they are now sending people away for two years. Even adults are missing | :14:52. | :14:55.
out on their checks. Oral cancer now kills more people than survival and | :14:56. | :15:02.
testicular cancer together. It is not a prevention -based system. | :15:03. | :15:08.
We have had a statement from NHS England saying these claims are | :15:09. | :15:15.
wrong, 93% of people got an NHS dental appointment when they wanted | :15:16. | :15:18.
wrong, 93% of people got an NHS one in the last 24 months, how does | :15:19. | :15:19.
that square with what you are saying? I'm sure you are familiar | :15:20. | :15:24.
with the same lies, dammed lies and statistics, and that is one that is | :15:25. | :15:29.
often used by NHS England. The truth is, only half of the population have | :15:30. | :15:34.
even seen a dentist in the last 24 months, a third of children still | :15:35. | :15:37.
haven't seen a dentist in the last two years. Look, they are stuck in | :15:38. | :15:43.
denial, keep coming up with numbers and statistics, they are not | :15:44. | :15:50.
addressing the real problem. And the reason over 400 dental professionals | :15:51. | :15:50.
sign this letter in the Daily Telegraph is to whistle-blower | :15:51. | :15:55.
publicly and say, look, this is a growing tragedy of third World | :15:56. | :15:58.
proportions and it is time for action and not hiding behind lies, | :15:59. | :16:01.
statistics, and not actually getting to grips with providing proper | :16:02. | :16:07.
systems in the public interest of white Ian on Twitter says dental | :16:08. | :16:11.
problems are down to the greed of dentists. It is so expensive to get | :16:12. | :16:15.
dental treatment, often, isn't it? The most expensive thing is | :16:16. | :16:20.
dental treatment, often, isn't it? neglecting your mouth, letting rot | :16:21. | :16:22.
get established in the mouth and losing loads of teeth. Dental | :16:23. | :16:27.
implants do cost ?2000. It is the most advanced dentistry you can get. | :16:28. | :16:30.
implants do cost ?2000. It is the It is not available on NHS | :16:31. | :16:34.
dentistry. But if I said to all the public, every tooth in your head is | :16:35. | :16:39.
worth ?2000, if you had 20 or 30 diamonds or gems would you let them | :16:40. | :16:43.
go tarnished, let them rot? Would you let them be lost needlessly? You | :16:44. | :16:47.
would look after them, polished them, and make them last for life. | :16:48. | :16:52.
This needs to get out of the public, your teeth are valuable and affect | :16:53. | :16:55.
the quality of your life. Children have been admitted to hospital, | :16:56. | :16:58.
starting off with a sweet tooth, rotten tooth, and a horrible first | :16:59. | :17:04.
dental experience. How will that help public health improved? Thank | :17:05. | :17:08.
you very much, Doctor Tony Kilcoyne. Let us know your thoughts on that. | :17:09. | :17:16.

been very clear about. All Iranian diplomats | :19:43. | :19:51.

This is the interview we have been waiting for. | :20:47. | :20:50.
Thank you. Sports pages full of one man this morning. Ben Stokes, after | :20:51. | :20:56.
his remarkable innings for England against South Africa yesterday. We | :20:57. | :21:01.
will be talking to his dad in just a few minutes, but let's look at the | :21:02. | :21:07.
records he broke. His knock of 254 was quite something, the fastest | :21:08. | :21:11.
double test century by an England batsman, taking 163 balls, beating | :21:12. | :21:19.
Sir Ian Botham's record. Fastest 250 in Test cricket history overtaking | :21:20. | :21:23.
Veranda say Wagg's 207 balls for India in 2009. | :21:24. | :21:26.
More sixes than any other Englishmen. He cleared the boundary | :21:27. | :21:33.
11 times. I'm delighted to be joined by Ben Stokes's dad, who is over in | :21:34. | :21:39.
New Zealand. Think they are on day three on the lunch break at the | :21:40. | :21:42.
moment, aren't they? I know you played cricket as a young man, so | :21:43. | :21:48.
who is taking credit for the heroics of your son? Probably goes to my | :21:49. | :21:57.
wife Deborah. She was still playing cricket while she carried them, | :21:58. | :22:00.
think she played up to a couple of months before he was born. So I | :22:01. | :22:06.
think she's got to take the majority of credit. How did you both react to | :22:07. | :22:13.
the remarkable innings? Tremendous, very proud. We were lucky last | :22:14. | :22:22.
night, we had an evening arranged with quite a few | :22:23. | :22:22.
night, we had an evening arranged here were around at the same time. | :22:23. | :22:28.
Compelling viewing. Especially when we knew he was sitting on 76 | :22:29. | :22:33.
overnight. We were all round the table looking at the screen watching | :22:34. | :22:37.
him get his hundred. Little did we know we would be sitting there | :22:38. | :22:45.
watching him score 250. Tremendous time for us as a family. He has long | :22:46. | :22:46.
watching him score 250. Tremendous been known as a decent all-rounder, | :22:47. | :22:50.
but did you realise he was capable of something so special? We knew he | :22:51. | :22:56.
had the skills, no doubt about that. And it was just probably the time, | :22:57. | :23:00.
the wicket he needed, and the opportunity, I guess. But I think is | :23:01. | :23:06.
aways have the ability to get a lot of runs. He's a very attacking | :23:07. | :23:11.
batsman. Sometimes that's to his detriment, as a lot of the pundits | :23:12. | :23:14.
have already indicated, there will be a lot of failures in between the | :23:15. | :23:18.
good stuff as well, because of that attitude he has towards his batting. | :23:19. | :23:22.
He goes out and tries to dominate the bowling. And I guess, as I said, | :23:23. | :23:28.
that sometimes does put him in a position where he looks like he's | :23:29. | :23:33.
thrown his wicket away. But he always tries and works hard for the | :23:34. | :23:36.
team and I think that comes through in all his innings. How did his | :23:37. | :23:42.
journey in cricket start? Say that again. Where did he first start | :23:43. | :23:45.
playing cricket and get into the sport? He started playing in the | :23:46. | :23:48.
hallway at home and as soon as he sport? He started playing in the | :23:49. | :23:54.
could start walking he picked up a plastic bat and had a natural | :23:55. | :23:59.
ability. As a kid he always wanted to play cricket and everybody who | :24:00. | :24:02.
came round the house, he wanted to play cricket with them. We spent a | :24:03. | :24:07.
lot of time on the backyard wall. As he got older he joined the clubs | :24:08. | :24:10.
around the district that we lived in. And played cricket, has a lot of | :24:11. | :24:16.
kids do in New Zealand. When we moved to England the first thing he | :24:17. | :24:20.
did was look to the local cricket club which he found to be just round | :24:21. | :24:25.
the corner. So his introduction to England was probably more over the | :24:26. | :24:31.
cricket than it was the rugby league which is what we were over four. He | :24:32. | :24:35.
did play rugby league but cricket was his main priority. Thank you so | :24:36. | :24:39.
much for joining us, what a proud that you must be. My pleasure. We'll | :24:40. | :24:44.
have updates on the second test Edwin England and South | :24:45. | :24:56.
Saudi Arabia has cut diplomatic relations with Iran, | :24:57. | :25:02.
The Saudi Embassy in Tehran was ransacked on Saturday by people | :25:03. | :25:05.
protesting against the killing of Nimr al-Nimr. | :25:06. | :25:13.
Iranian diplomats have now been given 48 hours to leave Saudi | :25:14. | :25:16.
The execution has inflamed sectarian tensions in the Middle East that | :25:17. | :25:19.
have already been fanned by the civil war in Syria | :25:20. | :25:22.
Jane Kinninmount is a Saudi Arabia expert from the policy research | :25:23. | :27:23.
against the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, | :27:24. | :27:28.
outside the Saudi Embassy in London this weekend. | :27:29. | :27:33.
We did invite the Saudi Ambassador to the UK and the Saudi government | :27:34. | :27:45.
Jane, how would you assess the dangers of the current situation? It | :27:46. | :27:52.
has come at a time when there was already extreme tension between | :27:53. | :28:00.
Saudi Arabia and Iran. They are on opposite sides of various conflicts | :28:01. | :28:01.
including the one in Syria and the one in Yemen where the ceasefire has | :28:02. | :28:07.
just broken down. So something that might, at another time, has been an | :28:08. | :28:12.
internal Saudi issue about the execution of a dissident has really | :28:13. | :28:15.
caught fire and fanned the flames of an existing regionwide struggle. | :28:16. | :28:21.
They will have known what they were doing at this time, what do you make | :28:22. | :28:26.
of the timing? The reaction is indeed largely predictable. Shaking | :28:27. | :28:30.
was originally arrested in 2014 indeed largely predictable. Shaking | :28:31. | :28:37.
the decision to go along with this execution along with a number of | :28:38. | :28:43.
people associated with Al-Qaeda and Isis probably partly reflects a new | :28:44. | :28:46.
leadership that has come into power in Saudi Arabia over the last year, | :28:47. | :28:50.
which is determined to take quite a hard line on a number of internal | :28:51. | :28:56.
regional security threats. Fatime, we said you were out demonstrating, | :28:57. | :29:05.
why was that? We have been demonstrating weekly outside the | :29:06. | :29:11.
Saudi embassy requesting the release of Sheikh Nimr, because he is a | :29:12. | :29:14.
human rights activist very well known for associating with critics | :29:15. | :29:23.
of the government, people that are threatening the monarchy because | :29:24. | :29:25.
they know that if they do go ahead with the Democratic Saudi Arabia it | :29:26. | :29:32.
would be the end of the Yarl's Wood monarchy. And I have been protesting | :29:33. | :29:39.
because I believe the prominent ally should be questioned, our | :29:40. | :29:41.
relationship with Saudi Arabia. I don't think we should have such a | :29:42. | :29:46.
strong relationship with a country that is openly committing atrocities | :29:47. | :29:51.
similar to Isis, yet we are accessing it, we have not stood | :29:52. | :29:55.
against it, not enough pressure has been placed on Saudi Arabia to | :29:56. | :29:59.
change their laws. Sheikh Nimr, as I mentioned, was a human rights | :30:00. | :30:03.
activist. And following the weekly protests, we've had no difference in | :30:04. | :30:08.
UK policy against Saudi Arabia. So this weekend on Saturday we shifted | :30:09. | :30:14.
from asking for a release to condemning his death. And Sunday | :30:15. | :30:19.
followed another protest outside the Saudi Arabia embassy. | :30:20. | :30:25.
Saudi Arabia describes him as a terrorist. She and others describe | :30:26. | :30:35.
him as a human rights activist. What did Saudi Arabia say he had done? It | :30:36. | :30:41.
is important to note that terrorism in Saudi Arabia is defined more | :30:42. | :30:47.
broadly than in the UK. There were a long list of charges against him, | :30:48. | :30:49.
including inciting disobedience against the Government, encouraging | :30:50. | :30:54.
foreign meddling, which was assumed to be a reference to Iran. He said | :30:55. | :31:02.
it could be possible for Saudi shears to seek external assistance. | :31:03. | :31:09.
Essentially the Government was accusing him of inciting violence | :31:10. | :31:11.
against the police but not it seems direct involvement in terrorism. | :31:12. | :31:16.
Fatima, where do things go from here? I think as British citizens we | :31:17. | :31:23.
should be placing pressure on our government, a government that is | :31:24. | :31:27.
supposed to represent its citizens, and as people we need a more | :31:28. | :31:32.
transparent political analysis of the relationship that we have with | :31:33. | :31:37.
Saudi Arabia. In terms of the immediate impact of it? In Iran we | :31:38. | :31:43.
have seen violent protests. Are you worried about how this situation | :31:44. | :31:51.
might escalate? To be honest my concern largely lies with the UK as | :31:52. | :31:58.
I am a citizen here. I would like to see a difference between the | :31:59. | :31:58.
relationship that I've mentioned with Saudi Arabia. I would like to | :31:59. | :32:02.
remind the public that this is a sectarian issue. Nimr al-Nimr stood | :32:03. | :32:19.
up against inequality. There is a similar attitude towards a sunny | :32:20. | :32:25.
blogger. The Saudi government and the monarchy, it seems the only | :32:26. | :32:28.
retaliation to critics to human rights activists is to simply kill | :32:29. | :32:31.
them. We have seen that happening across the world. I also think it is | :32:32. | :32:38.
very important to remember that Saudi identifies their religious | :32:39. | :32:44.
sect as Wahhabi is. It believes in the Killian -- killing of | :32:45. | :32:52.
non-believers. We have just seen the British jihadi. If we are talking | :32:53. | :32:59.
about de-radicalisation in the UK, we need to understand that the | :33:00. | :33:04.
largest oil producer in the world has Wahhabi literature distributed | :33:05. | :33:07.
around the country. A quick final thought, you want to see a different | :33:08. | :33:14.
attitude between Britain and Saudi Arabia. Is that likely? There is a | :33:15. | :33:21.
mismatch between the heart of the public opinion and public criticism | :33:22. | :33:24.
of Saudi Arabia and the Government's desire to forge a stronger | :33:25. | :33:29.
relationship with it. It is an oversimplification of Saudi Arabia's | :33:30. | :33:36.
attitude towards Islam. They would argue that Isis is a massive threat | :33:37. | :33:48.
to Saudi Arabia. They are funding such a terrorist organisation. That | :33:49. | :33:53.
is an allegation that has been made but not confirmed. There is a moral | :33:54. | :34:00.
ass of views. Saudi Arabia is a country of which opinion is | :34:01. | :34:03.
polarised in the Western world and in the Middle East. Written sees it | :34:04. | :34:09.
as one of its primary allies in the Middle East. That is largely down to | :34:10. | :34:14.
the 100 billion largely private Saudi funds invested in the British | :34:15. | :34:20.
economy. It is economic rather than moral. I think that David Cameron | :34:21. | :34:26.
and his government should follow the public in what they would like to | :34:27. | :34:27.
see. Thank you both. | :34:28. | :34:34.
Still to come, Victoria's latest video diary about coping with the | :34:35. | :34:41.
side effects of chemotherapy. A Labour MP touted to replace Maria | :34:42. | :34:45.
Eagle as Shadow Defence Secretary has told this programme he would | :34:46. | :34:49.
only do the job at Jeremy Corbyn said it was essential. Clive Lewis, | :34:50. | :34:54.
a shadow minister, told us talk linking in with the front bench | :34:55. | :34:56.
position was speculation and he had not been offered it. I have not been | :34:57. | :35:01.
spoken to by anybody. It is complete speculation. Would you want to do | :35:02. | :35:08.
it? No. I have been an MP for eight months. I'm on the shadow front | :35:09. | :35:12.
bench. It is a steep learning curve being an MP. To be in the shadow | :35:13. | :35:16.
cabinet is another league altogether. I want to pace myself | :35:17. | :35:21.
like most people who come into Parliament. That is my honest | :35:22. | :35:27.
opinion. If you were offered it, would you say no? If Jeremy Corbyn | :35:28. | :35:33.
said he needed me to do it, it was essential, I would have to think | :35:34. | :35:36.
about it. But my initial inclination would be to say no. I have been in | :35:37. | :35:41.
the job eight months. This is speculation. I wanted to pick up on | :35:42. | :35:48.
the revenge reshuffle, the way it has been framed. If David Cameron | :35:49. | :35:53.
had a reshuffle it would be a reshuffle. Not a revenge reshuffle. | :35:54. | :35:57.
Political leaders throughout the history of the Parliamentary Labour | :35:58. | :36:01.
Party have made reshuffles. That is what they do. They try to manage | :36:02. | :36:07.
their shadow cabinet. In 2001 Tony Blair effectively demoted Robin Cook | :36:08. | :36:10.
because of these stones the pro-European position. That was not | :36:11. | :36:15.
seen as revenge. It is about managing how your shadow cabinet | :36:16. | :36:19.
works. That is what Jeremy Corbyn has every right to do. We are like a | :36:20. | :36:25.
family and labour. We may have slightly different views but by and | :36:26. | :36:28.
large are values and principles hold us together. Sometimes you get | :36:29. | :36:32.
differences of opinion, like you do at Christmas, in families. You will | :36:33. | :36:36.
have arguments. The mechanism we use to sort that out is called | :36:37. | :36:42.
democracy. We had a democratic election. Jeremy Corbyn won that | :36:43. | :36:50.
election. It is his prerogative as leader not to sure revenge but to | :36:51. | :36:51.
manage and shape the shadow cabinet. It is one of the benefits of being a | :36:52. | :36:56.
leader. I think he is entitled to do that without it being referred to as | :36:57. | :36:58.
revenge. Carole Walker is in Westminster. | :36:59. | :37:04.
What is the latest on what is going on at Westminster? I think Jeremy | :37:05. | :37:09.
Corbyn is weighing up this incredibly difficult prospect. | :37:10. | :37:12.
Reshuffles are notoriously difficult, divisive. People get | :37:13. | :37:19.
resentful had been moved. It is hard to see how he is going to get this | :37:20. | :37:21.
resentful had been moved. It is hard right without upsetting quite a few | :37:22. | :37:25.
people. Some of his closest allies say it is quite right for Jeremy | :37:26. | :37:29.
Corbyn to want in his shadow cabinet people who are closest to his | :37:30. | :37:35.
personal view. At the moment he has got quite a few with different views | :37:36. | :37:39.
on a number of key issues. Others say he has talked about being | :37:40. | :37:41.
inclusive and bringing the party together. And that it would create | :37:42. | :37:48.
more division in the party if he cleared out those who had | :37:49. | :37:53.
more division in the party if he with him public click. -- publicly. | :37:54. | :37:56.
more division in the party if he The key to this is | :37:57. | :38:01.
more division in the party if he speech in favour of air strikes in | :38:02. | :38:04.
more division in the party if he was opposed to them. If he were to | :38:05. | :38:11.
be moved now I think people would see that is a provocative move, | :38:12. | :38:13.
particularly if he were to promote someone very close to his own view, | :38:14. | :38:20.
like Diane Abbott. She dismissed as poppycock and people this morning | :38:21. | :38:23.
the suggestion she had been offered the job. We heard Clive Lewis, | :38:24. | :38:28.
touted for the job of shadow defence secretary, he was saying he had not | :38:29. | :38:34.
been approached. He would probably say no. At the moment we are in a | :38:35. | :38:38.
continual year of reshuffle speculation. That is very difficult | :38:39. | :38:47.
for the party. While that continues, it becomes almost impossible for a | :38:48. | :38:48.
Labour to put his messages across on other issues. A lot of Labour MPs | :38:49. | :38:53.
are frustrated about that. We just wanted to show you these | :38:54. | :38:57.
dramatic pictures taken near Bristol this morning. They show a village | :38:58. | :39:02.
cash machine after it was blown up in Long Ashton. The front of a post | :39:03. | :39:07.
office was completely destroyed following the blast in the early | :39:08. | :39:10.
hours of this morning. Police say some cash was stolen and people have | :39:11. | :39:16.
been arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion with intent to | :39:17. | :39:17.
endanger life. In her latest video diary Victoria | :39:18. | :39:19.
has revealed she's started losing her hair as a side-effect | :39:20. | :39:23.
of chemotherapy treatment for breast I'm in a hotel room, | :39:24. | :39:24.
and getting ready to go It's two and a half weeks | :39:25. | :39:29.
since the first chemo and it's four This is the first bit of hair | :39:30. | :39:33.
of mine that has fallen out. Obviously it is a side | :39:34. | :39:44.
effect of chemotherapy. Hello, it's Wednesday 25th | :39:45. | :39:49.
of November and I have just finished my second | :39:50. | :39:56.
chemotherapy session. I'm wearing a different hat, | :39:57. | :40:00.
apparently it's a new generation I have just finished chemo, | :40:01. | :40:10.
finished wearing the cold cap, And hopefully I'm going to show | :40:11. | :40:13.
you some ice in the cold cap. And if I just do on the top | :40:14. | :40:23.
of my head, there are So that is just proof of how cold | :40:24. | :40:40.
it gets in a coldcap. Quick update, couple of days | :40:41. | :40:49.
after the second chemo, I've had lots of sleep, | :40:50. | :40:51.
I know exactly what to do this time, I've just washed my hair | :40:52. | :40:54.
and want to show you this, Which is to be expected | :40:55. | :41:00.
but it is quite a lot. It is now six days since the second | :41:01. | :41:15.
chemotherapy session and like the first one I am | :41:16. | :41:18.
at the stage where I am feeling One of the things that I'm finding | :41:19. | :41:24.
difficult to come toterms I would say I have lost about 30 | :41:25. | :41:36.
to 50% of my hair. It's Christmas eve and it has taken | :41:37. | :41:56.
eight days to bounce back from the last session | :41:57. | :42:09.
of chemotherapy. So I spent the week doing a lot | :42:10. | :42:13.
of sleeping and feeling a bit dizzy. Disgusting cardboard | :42:14. | :42:19.
taste in my mouth. One ulcer in my mouth, | :42:20. | :42:25.
but only one so it's not the end So I have got used to wearing a wig | :42:26. | :42:28.
which is something I never thought You can watch and share all of the | :42:29. | :42:51.
video diaries on our programme page. Or on the BBC News YouTube page. So | :42:52. | :42:56.
many of you getting in touch. Andy and Mike and Twitter don't think so | :42:57. | :43:07.
many high profile people would have rolled their sleeves up and shared | :43:08. | :43:07.
such a brave and selfless diary. John thanks Victoria for her | :43:08. | :43:46.
