STEVE CRAM: Men's 100 metres final. Justin Gatlin has got out a bit

:08:39.:08:47.

better! Here comes Usain Bolt! And Usain Bolt gets it! Bolt, he has

:08:48.:08:56.

saved his title! He has saved his reputation! He may have even saved

:08:57.:08:59.

his sport! One of the moments of the year -

:09:00.:09:02.

Bolt beating Gatlin. Over in 9.79 seconds, but one we'll

:09:03.:09:04.

remember for a long time. Usain is a special athlete indeed,

:09:05.:09:07.

and so is our first contender for tonight's main award,

:09:08.:09:10.

as the Beijing World Championships saw Greg Rutherford leap

:09:11.:09:12.

into the record books to complete 2015 has not been a bad year. Our

:09:13.:09:28.

son celebrated his first birthday. We got a new hoover. Cordless. Oh,

:09:29.:09:37.

and in August, I became the one -- long jump world champion. Last year

:09:38.:09:43.

by won the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games. I do

:09:44.:09:47.

have my critics are and some people have called me lucky. Affect timing.

:09:48.:09:53.

But I arrived in Beijing knowing that I was one jump away from

:09:54.:09:57.

completing the set and holding all four major titles. Only four other

:09:58.:10:01.

GB athletes have ever managed to do that. For the life of me I cannot

:10:02.:10:05.

think who. He looks to complete the set... Long jump is a funny old

:10:06.:10:13.

event. Run as fast as you can... I have had years of practice. I can

:10:14.:10:16.

tell you, it gets pretty intense. Yes! We are in the fourth round.

:10:17.:10:24.

8.29 is his lead. He is looking to extend it. Oh, Cheadle jump!

:10:25.:10:31.

Rutherford takes gold here in the birds nest! It is a dream come true

:10:32.:10:39.

to take all four major titles. Hold on... Olympic, European,

:10:40.:10:47.

Commonwealth and now world champion. With the Olympics on the horizon I

:10:48.:10:51.

am working extra hard to try to top that podium again. Some people say I

:10:52.:10:53.

am lucky. I am. Good boy. He jumped for joy again this year,

:10:54.:10:59.

so please give it up Quite a reception. It is amazing,

:11:00.:11:32.

the harder you train, the luckier you get! Absolutely! But we do have

:11:33.:11:38.

to work pretty hard at times. And now, you are in what we can call the

:11:39.:11:45.

famous five. When you add those names, Linford Christie, Jonathan

:11:46.:11:49.

Edwards, Daley Thompson,'s Dunnell, and you are there amongst them...

:11:50.:12:01.

Yes, it really is very odd for me to even consider myself amongst those

:12:02.:12:04.

guys. They are not just synonymous with athletics but with British

:12:05.:12:10.

sport. People we have all grown up watching and enjoying. But for me

:12:11.:12:13.

and all of these guys, they will tell you there is always a journey

:12:14.:12:17.

and a lot of people who help along the way. I would like to mention at

:12:18.:12:21.

this point somebody who sadly we lost this week. A man who was very

:12:22.:12:26.

close to my heart and helped me a lot when I was a youngster. A man

:12:27.:12:33.

called Falona, who sadly lost his battle with cancer and sadly is no

:12:34.:12:37.

longer with us. I would like to thank him for everything he did for

:12:38.:12:45.

me. He was integral to everything. I know you will take inspiration from

:12:46.:12:47.

him and from so many different parts of your life going forward to Rio.

:12:48.:12:53.

But you are a dad now. So much has changed as you build up towards

:12:54.:13:00.

trying to retain that Olympic crown? That little man there has absolutely

:13:01.:13:04.

changed everything for me but in such a positive way. I love getting

:13:05.:13:08.

home from training and just hanging out with him and having a lot of

:13:09.:13:13.

fun. He is a wonderful little boy. For me he has given me new vigour. I

:13:14.:13:17.

feel excited to get out there and jump and hopefully make him proud.

:13:18.:13:22.

Ultimately what we do, all of us, it is interesting, we do a sporting

:13:23.:13:27.

event. I want to be good not just on the track but off as well and

:13:28.:13:30.

hopefully one day make him very proud.

:13:31.:13:33.

Good luck tonight - our first contender,

:13:34.:13:35.

In the season of ice, plunging is an art. Lizzy Yarnold marries muscle

:13:36.:14:00.

and skeleton as a world champion. Gary Anderson won the PDC. Scott

:14:01.:14:08.

Mitchell was king at the BDO. Lisa Ashton was Queen. In the FA Cup,

:14:09.:14:12.

Chelsea got caught in a northern storm. Winners can forget. In the

:14:13.:14:24.

League Cup, Mourinho's men reigned supreme. The Scottish League Cup was

:14:25.:14:28.

won by Celtic. At the other end of the world, the weather was serene.

:14:29.:14:34.

The tennis was all Serena. Djokovic outmanoeuvred Murray in four sets.

:14:35.:14:43.

There were reddish winners. Including Andrew Luck porn and

:14:44.:14:48.

Jordanne Whiley. From Australia to America, the Super Bowl grit people.

:14:49.:14:55.

Dame Sarah Storey's story of success continues. From AP McCoy, a final

:14:56.:15:11.

pool win. In cricket, England fell at the first.

:15:12.:15:18.

The lovely tones of Dervla Kerwan. The voice of our reviews tonight.

:15:19.:15:24.

Football now and the Women's World Cup.

:15:25.:15:26.

Watched by millions in the UK, the tournament reached new heights

:15:27.:15:28.

and a new audience as England reached the semi-finals.

:15:29.:15:30.

The story though ended in brutal fashion -

:15:31.:15:32.

no change there - but it was a fantastic achievement

:15:33.:15:34.

by the lionesses and playing a starring role was our

:15:35.:15:37.

This summer, women's football changed forever. Lucia, Roberta,

:15:38.:15:49.

Bronze was at the heart of that change. Half English, half

:15:50.:16:03.

Portugese, 100% north-east. She was the star Alnwick Town but at 12 was

:16:04.:16:10.

no longer able to play with the boys but tough by nature, nothing would

:16:11.:16:13.

stand in the way of her dream The moment the England players have

:16:14.:16:20.

worked so hard for. Persistence paid off in Per Canada this summer in the

:16:21.:16:26.

most dramatic fashion. COMMENTATOR: An absolute belter. It

:16:27.:16:30.

takes a certain player to get the nation off their feet, to inspire

:16:31.:16:34.

their country to aer World Cup semifinal. Something even more

:16:35.:16:40.

special. COMMENTATOR: A she has done it again. Not since Italia 90,

:16:41.:16:46.

before even my time, had we experienced anything like this.

:16:47.:16:49.

Suddenly, England expects. Instead, it was a familiar World Cup

:16:50.:16:57.

heartbreak. COMMENTATOR: Hit the bar, no, no. England are out.

:16:58.:17:02.

Perhaps their best player on the day has put through her own goal. Gaza's

:17:03.:17:12.

tears swapped. But these Lionesses had their own dreams. Aspiring a new

:17:13.:17:16.

generation. Breaking Germany from 12 yards. A breakthrough moment. The

:17:17.:17:22.

Americans crowned champions, but England edged closer England with a

:17:23.:17:28.

third-place finish. The best efforts since '66 and a defining moment for

:17:29.:17:32.

our women's game, inspired by the fullback that excelled amongst the

:17:33.:17:39.

world's reathlete. Now, my daughter wants a different B on her back.

:17:40.:17:45.

England got the bronze. So have we tonight. Joined by members of the

:17:46.:17:52.

England Women's Football team. Please welcome Lucy Bronze.

:17:53.:18:02.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:18:03.:18:14.

Lucy, fabulous achievement by yourself and the team here with you

:18:15.:18:19.

this evening. What was the secret to the success? I mean everyone asks

:18:20.:18:25.

that to us, obviously. I think we have always had the talent within

:18:26.:18:28.

the team. Great players. World class players but I think this year, the

:18:29.:18:33.

team kind of got together and we had that real belief which I think

:18:34.:18:36.

before we have never had. It was kind of an inner belief. Once we

:18:37.:18:41.

started performing well, it was as if the whole nation believed in us.

:18:42.:18:44.

We have never had that before, as the women's football team. We have

:18:45.:18:47.

never had that backing and support from our nation and we felt that

:18:48.:18:51.

going through the rest of the tournament. The nation was certainly

:18:52.:18:54.

gripped. No doubt about it. You reached the semifinals. What a

:18:55.:18:58.

heartbreaking moment, especially for Laura behind us. I mean, being a

:18:59.:19:03.

footballer, anyone getting a disappointing result in a world kind

:19:04.:19:07.

of stage, it is disappointing but I think the thing about it, we kind of

:19:08.:19:13.

had a bitter sweet ending, we played another game to end on a eye. We

:19:14.:19:20.

played Germany. A medal. We had never got a medal, reaching that

:19:21.:19:23.

far. To have that second chance, to beat them the way we did and to come

:19:24.:19:29.

home with a smile on our faces is still a good ending anding so we are

:19:30.:19:33.

proud of. You scored a couple of goals yourself on the way to the

:19:34.:19:36.

bons medal. Where do you think this'll take women's football? Well,

:19:37.:19:41.

look today, and the fact we are here on the stage at this kind of event.

:19:42.:19:44.

It has never happened before. Women's football is finally on the

:19:45.:19:47.

map. We have the men's to compare against. Everyone does but we have

:19:48.:19:52.

made our own stamp on our Weah. We are really proud of that. For me

:19:53.:19:55.

personal lane on behalf of the girls, we think it is just the

:19:56.:20:00.

beginning. -- for me personally and on behalf of the girls.

:20:01.:20:03.

There is still a lot more to come from us. Well, you are comfortably

:20:04.:20:08.

beating the men at the moment. You did us all proud.

:20:09.:20:12.

Ladies and gentlemen, our second contender...

:20:13.:20:21.

Gold medal to James Guy. World Champion, gold to Britain. Superb

:20:22.:20:36.

dive from Tom Daley. Well done, Becky. Goodness gracious me, an

:20:37.:20:42.

utterly brilliant swim. The new World Record for Great Britain.

:20:43.:20:46.

Adam Peaty is a very, very rare athlete. He is one of British

:20:47.:21:21.

swimming's greatest ever. He is a privilege to just watch. And just to

:21:22.:21:26.

be able to say I know him. The months before the World Record in

:21:27.:21:31.

April, I knew he was capable of doing something quite insane.

:21:32.:21:36.

Goodness me, Peaty wins the gold. So pleased for the little lad, I'd

:21:37.:21:41.

coached since 14, with a bad haircut. A very special moment for

:21:42.:21:46.

me. The pressure was on him when he went to the World Championships. He

:21:47.:21:49.

was the number 1. He had broken the World Record. He was now the guy to

:21:50.:21:57.

watch. The 50 m breaststroke, just insane. He is well-placed. He

:21:58.:22:02.

absolutely swam his perfect race. COMMENTATOR: He has got it at the

:22:03.:22:07.

last? He has. A crowd pleaser. What a superstar. I mean the 100m. From a

:22:08.:22:13.

coaching view, it was not easy to watch. COMMENTATOR: Now it is a very

:22:14.:22:20.

big lead. Nail-biting stuff. I was in tears, cheering, screaming,

:22:21.:22:23.

thinking - he is not going to do t he is not going to do it and then he

:22:24.:22:28.

does it. COMMENTATOR: Peaty has it on the very last stroke. For him to

:22:29.:22:35.

cope with the pressure in his first World Championships at the age of

:22:36.:22:39.

just 20, that's when he became a man for me. He is Britain's Golding

:22:40.:22:44.

swimming sensation, please welcome Adam Peaty. -- golden swimming

:22:45.:22:49.

sensation. So, second-year running on the list.

:22:50.:23:16.

Fantastic for you and for swimming Yes, I mean I'm great to be here in

:23:17.:23:21.

front of this amazing crowd. It is a massive opportunity really to put

:23:22.:23:24.

swimming on the map. And I'm not really good at this talking stuff,

:23:25.:23:28.

but I'm all right at swimming. You are better than all right at T

:23:29.:23:31.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:23:32.:23:35.

And he is the first man in the world, ever, to swim the 100m

:23:36.:23:40.

breaststroke in under 58 seconds. APPLAUSE

:23:41.:23:45.

I know. How fast can you go? You know, no-one was expecting me to

:23:46.:23:50.

swim, the first man under 58 seconds. 57.9 I it. Everyone was

:23:51.:23:57.

tipping my greatest rival, the Olympic and World Champion. I was

:23:58.:24:01.

coming against the odds to break it, really. We are looking, hopefully

:24:02.:24:04.

this next year to enjoy the journey and give the best for my country,

:24:05.:24:13.

really. He is the man, Van Der Berg you will be taking on in Rio.

:24:14.:24:18.

Looking forward to it? I can't wait. I love a great race me. At the World

:24:19.:24:24.

Championships I was 5 m behind and I kept thinking - I have to catch this

:24:25.:24:29.

guy. He was a body length ahead. There was no way. There was

:24:30.:24:32.

something in my mind that said no way but something in my mind saying

:24:33.:24:36.

- no I have trained all those years, let's have this. This is what I did.

:24:37.:24:40.

And the exciting thing is it is not a one man band. British swimming is

:24:41.:24:44.

sensational. A lot of them here tonight.

:24:45.:24:46.

Many congratulations to all our global champions,

:24:47.:25:26.

And our next contender is a

:25:27.:25:31.

golden boy who certainly took it to the max in 2015.

:25:32.:25:33.

And that's because Max Whitlock created history by becoming

:25:34.:25:36.

Britain's first male world champion gymnast in a week

:25:37.:25:38.

COMMENTATOR: Look at this. Super stuff. Bronze medal. That is a first

:25:39.:25:54.

for Great Britain. The British boys could not have performed better.

:25:55.:25:58.

Great Britain takes silver in the Men's Team Final. Let's count them.

:25:59.:26:08.

There are the titles, all six of them. That is a record 10th world

:26:09.:26:12.

title. Boy, he pulled something out of the

:26:13.:26:17.

locker there. Itville a battle of the Britons

:26:18.:26:31.

here. Max Whitlock is the pommel horse world champion. -- it really

:26:32.:26:32.

is the battle of the Britons. He's perfect on the pommel

:26:33.:26:36.

and he's pretty good CHEERING AND

:26:37.:27:31.

APPLAUSE Wow, that was incredible. They

:27:32.:27:37.

absolutely loved it in here, Max. Grab your microphone. Don't try that

:27:38.:27:44.

at home, boys and girls. Max, is it just the piano, you can do that on?

:27:45.:27:49.

We have a full orchestra over there? Drum, maybe a double bass? It is a

:27:50.:27:53.

challenge on here. Maybe I'll give it a try. This is just a normal

:27:54.:27:57.

suit, by the way, ladies and gentlemen, no lycra in this. It is

:27:58.:28:01.

be a handy party trick. It is good. It works very W it is good I can do

:28:02.:28:07.

it. You can do it anywhere, all the time. All the other nominees are

:28:08.:28:10.

thinking - my party trick is not as good as that. You are World

:28:11.:28:13.

Champion, history maker, has that sunk in? It hasn't. You go to all

:28:14.:28:18.

the competitions and come back, you are straight back in the gym. It

:28:19.:28:21.

doesn't really sink in, you want to get back in and work hard and work

:28:22.:28:26.

for the next one. It was a long journey and it was amazing to finish

:28:27.:28:31.

it. That was my 20th routine out there at a World Championships. It

:28:32.:28:36.

was tough. Two silvers before that. The Men's Team Silver, historical

:28:37.:28:39.

silver, on the floor and then the gold. It is not how you start, it is

:28:40.:28:48.

how you finish? Exactly. Like you say, we made history a few times

:28:49.:28:51.

that week with the boys, it is great to see them. Overall it was a great

:28:52.:28:57.

week. Going back nine years, we were ranked 23 in the world. Now we are

:28:58.:29:01.

second. We are very proud. Very proud of you. You can tell

:29:02.:29:08.

gymnastics is more of an annerobic sport. Out of breath. Thank you for

:29:09.:29:13.

doing that. I know you go around gymnastics clubs all over, inspiring

:29:14.:29:17.

kids, so that the next generations of Max Whitlocks are coming through.

:29:18.:29:20.

It is a hugely popular sport at the moment. It is in a great place. Last

:29:21.:29:27.

week I came up to Belfast and visited as many schools and gym

:29:28.:29:32.

clubs as I could and got an amazing reception. It was brilliant to try

:29:33.:29:38.

and inspire the young kids. We went away from one of the classrooms, the

:29:39.:29:44.

teacher said how many people want to join gymnastics? A lot of hands were

:29:45.:29:51.

raised. It is a great feeling to us. Best of luck, Max Whitlock.

:29:52.:30:26.

And those starlets we all saw there make up the full list

:30:27.:30:41.

of contenders for tonight's first award - the Young Sports Personality

:30:42.:30:44.

The long list, top three and winner have been selected

:30:45.:30:48.

by a BBC panel, full details of which are on the BBC

:30:49.:30:51.

To present it, please welcome the fastest British woman

:30:52.:30:55.

in history, Dina Asher-Smith, and world super bantamweight

:30:56.:30:58.

Well, it is great to have you both here. Judges selected their top

:30:59.:31:26.

three. The judges selected their top three

:31:27.:31:29.

of gymnast Ellie Downie, para-swimmer Tully Kearney

:31:30.:31:32.

and jockey Tom Marquand. So Carl, could you announce

:31:33.:31:34.

the winner, please. The Young Sports Personality

:31:35.:31:37.

of the Year for 2015 is... Congratulations, Ellie. I presume

:31:38.:32:17.

you would like to say a few words? Yes, I would just like to say a

:32:18.:32:23.

massive thank you to everybody at British gymnastics, everybody at my

:32:24.:32:27.

home club, my family, my friends, everybody who has helped me along

:32:28.:32:32.

the way. And well done to the other nominees, especially one of the

:32:33.:32:37.

other gymnasts, Brinn Bevan. Thank you very much!

:32:38.:32:42.

Ladies and gentlemen, the BBC Young Personality

:32:43.:32:43.

Coming up, we get inspired as we announce the Helen Rollason award

:32:44.:33:09.

winner. We look back on an Ashes series to savour. And we celebrate a

:33:10.:33:12.

group of special champions. The Tour De France is

:33:13.:33:16.

the toughest physical challenge And our next contender had to endure

:33:17.:33:18.

more than brutal climbs - he went through hell and emerged

:33:19.:33:24.

triumphant to become the first British King of the Mountains

:33:25.:33:27.

and the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France

:33:28.:33:29.

for the second time. When it seems like the pressure of

:33:30.:33:39.

the world is on your shoulders, even the simplest of challenges can be

:33:40.:33:43.

tough to overcome. Fat cats trying to conquer one of the hardest places

:33:44.:33:48.

on this planet. Tough is a bit of an understatement. People have said it

:33:49.:33:56.

was one of the hardest Tour de Frances in years. For him to get

:33:57.:34:02.

through that - just incredible. This is not a ride around the park. This

:34:03.:34:06.

is a bike race. We are in the business of winning. I experienced

:34:07.:34:16.

it all last summer, got spat at and had a cup of urine thrown my way.

:34:17.:34:25.

This sport has got a reputation. I get that. But I still had a job to

:34:26.:34:32.

do. I had to lead my team to victory and I was not going to let anything

:34:33.:34:37.

get in my way. He takes it on the chin, gets up the next day and goes

:34:38.:34:41.

at it again. Not wide for a better team-mate. I think you saw the true

:34:42.:34:46.

champion. This guy is special. I sacrificed a lot for my sport. It is

:34:47.:34:51.

what I do. I am not looking for any sympathy for it. Having my wife at

:34:52.:34:55.

home with our first baby on the way was not easy, either. I knew she was

:34:56.:35:01.

there for me, though. That kept me going to the very end. And I did it.

:35:02.:35:07.

I got there. It was not easy. But it was all worth it. Because I got the

:35:08.:35:12.

yellow jersey back. Good evening everybody am sorry I could not be

:35:13.:35:16.

there to join you tonight. My wife and I are expecting a little boy any

:35:17.:35:21.

day now. So I definitely would not be in the good books if I had to

:35:22.:35:25.

come over to Belfast just at the minute. But thank you very much for

:35:26.:35:32.

the nomination. It is a real honour. To be nominated amongst such amazing

:35:33.:35:38.

talent which the country has to offer. Have a great evening. And the

:35:39.:35:49.

great news is that earlier in the week, Chris's wife gave birth to

:35:50.:35:55.

their first child. Isn't that beautiful?! A gorgeous little thing.

:35:56.:36:01.

Chris is at home in Monaco. We wish him the best of luck for tonight's

:36:02.:36:02.

main award. The bike and a baby boy

:36:03.:36:09.

were also the stories behind our next contender's

:36:10.:36:11.

remarkable come back in 2015, as we return to the Athletics

:36:12.:36:13.

World Championships. Because after only nine months

:36:14.:36:15.

training following the birth of her first child, Reggie,

:36:16.:36:17.

supermum Jessica Ennis-Hill proved again she's the best all-round woman

:36:18.:36:19.

athlete on the planet. Last July, Jessica Ennis-Hill gave

:36:20.:36:29.

birth to her first child, Reggie. Just three months later she was back

:36:30.:36:33.

in training, tentatively at first. 15 minutes on an exercise bike was

:36:34.:36:41.

all she could manage. Alone, late at night, as her baby slept. There were

:36:42.:36:45.

quite a few times during the winter when I honestly felt that it was

:36:46.:36:49.

just too much. I had not slept properly and I have got a baby and

:36:50.:36:54.

he needs me. Next year's Olympic Games were on the horizon. But

:36:55.:36:57.

first, the World Championships in Beijing. With so much new in her

:36:58.:37:02.

life, could she recapture the glory of old? I questioned whether I

:37:03.:37:07.

wanted to come back and be Olympic champion. The feeling I had was that

:37:08.:37:11.

I just wanted to make sure that I gave it a really good shot. I was

:37:12.:37:17.

away from my baby the two weeks but that I had achieved this amazing

:37:18.:37:21.

thing which I could tell him about. I always compare myself to the

:37:22.:37:26.

athlete that I was in 2012. So there were elements of frustration where I

:37:27.:37:29.

thought I could do a little bit better. But at the same time I felt

:37:30.:37:34.

really happy that I could produce those consistent performances. 5000

:37:35.:37:43.

miles away from her son, she was one event away from bringing home the

:37:44.:37:45.

gold medal. It was just such a special feeling. She would arrive

:37:46.:37:53.

with nothing to prove - but proved it anyway. Training continues. But

:37:54.:38:01.

for now it is back to the really important things in life.

:38:02.:38:06.

She's now a two-time world champion, please welcome

:38:07.:38:08.

Such a warm and wonderful reception in here, and we saw you talking

:38:09.:38:42.

about the comeback, the physical comeback. Were there ever times when

:38:43.:38:45.

it got a bit gruelling and tough and you thought, I wish I had chosen a

:38:46.:38:50.

more simple sport, maybe just hurdling?! Definitely. No sport is

:38:51.:38:54.

simple but I had so many moments where I thought, it would be nice

:38:55.:39:00.

just to do the hurdles. And I did have those discussions with my

:39:01.:39:03.

coach. But he was like, no, the heptathlon. Then there is the mental

:39:04.:39:11.

side of things. Did you ever worry about your competitive edge and

:39:12.:39:15.

whether that would still be there? In all honesty that was one thing

:39:16.:39:19.

that I knew I still had. Even when I found out I was pregnant I was still

:39:20.:39:23.

very much wanting to come back to my sport. I still have that competitive

:39:24.:39:28.

edge and drive to want to get to the top again. But I did evidently worry

:39:29.:39:32.

about physically how I would comeback this and how my body would

:39:33.:39:36.

cope with going through pregnancy and having a child and coming out

:39:37.:39:39.

the other side just so there were doubts in that respect but I never

:39:40.:39:43.

doubted that I wanted to be competitive. You were the poster

:39:44.:39:47.

girl in the build-up to 2012, and you delivered with that Olympic gold

:39:48.:39:53.

in London... Still a moment which sends the hairs on the back of the

:39:54.:39:58.

net, and appreciated here. Will it be less stressful heading towards

:39:59.:40:03.

retaining your title in Rio, do you think question it is always

:40:04.:40:13.

stressful. But 2012 was a unique opportunity. Just having that

:40:14.:40:17.

amazing experience. I am very much looking forward to Rio. A new

:40:18.:40:21.

journey. Just seeing what happens out there. Best of luck tonight,

we have had. It is down to all these people, from the mechanics, to the

:44:37.:44:41.

This is turning into a magical season. Lewis Hamilton has won his

third World Championship! Only gone and done it, mate! You just want to

:44:49.:44:56.

shout at the top of your lungs. It is just a lifelong dream.

:44:57.:45:07.

In the moment you are just grateful for all the people who have helped

:45:08.:45:13.

me achieve it. Lewis sadly can't be

:45:14.:45:16.

here in Belfast tonight. Absolutely. Firstly good evening

:45:17.:45:42.

everyone. It is great so see so many people there. Amazing year.

:45:43.:45:47.

Honestly. A real blessing. The team have done such an amazing job, as I

:45:48.:45:51.

said, a great experience to be part of this team. So many people working

:45:52.:45:54.

closely together to help elevate me to get that third Championship. How

:45:55.:45:59.

have you personally managed to maintain the amount of success you

:46:00.:46:05.

have done? Really just hard work, dedication. Staying focussed, as

some of the greet athletes there tonight, staying focus on the one

principle and goal and the belief and confidence in yourself. It is

team work. In this sport, as I said there's 1,300 people in my team. It

:46:20.:46:24.

is not just me. I'm a very small kink in that large, large chain of a

:46:25.:46:28.

lot of people, all pulling together and really just being at our best at

:46:29.:46:33.

all times. Can you do it again next year, three in a row, four in all?

:46:34.:46:43.

Well, firstly, the reason - I'm sorry I'm not there -- I'm out in

:46:44.:46:48.

Colorado, starting training for next season. I have to lose three kilos

:46:49.:46:52.

for next season and absolutely my goal is to arrive - the last couple

of races, in hindsight have been a blessing, they have given me

motivation, I feel great in the car. I will be working with the engineers

:50:06.:50:11.

went really, really good. Everything fell into place. I just felt - let's

:50:12.:50:14.

push it a bit harder. Athen I fell over and then I got

:50:15.:50:28.

back up again. It is nothing they have not seen before He falls over,

he gets up, he carries on. His determination and guts just kept

pushing him and pushing him to finish.

I finished. The finish of the triathlon was filmed on a mobile

:50:40.:50:47.

phone. It went viral, all over the world. You are an inspiration.

:50:48.:50:56.

Brilliant. What a lovely lad. For us, we couldn't understand what all

:50:57.:51:00.

:51:26.:51:35.

APPLAUSE Now, what a reception, Bailey.

:51:36.:52:47.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE I think you can stop

:52:48.:52:57.

cheering now. We've had a million, that's enough.

:52:58.:53:03.

You can stop cheering. I think he wants to speak. Do you want to say a

:53:04.:53:10.

few words, Bailey? What is it like being famous, for a start? Um...

:53:11.:53:17.

Cool. Cool. An amazing amount of people, over 80 million have seen

:53:18.:53:21.

your incredible triathlon. You have got them on your feet tonight. You

:53:22.:53:25.

love your sport, don't you? What do you love about sport? It's amazing.

:53:26.:53:32.

How does it make you feel, Bailey when you have crossed the line and

:53:33.:53:35.

you know you have done something incredible like that? It feels good.

:53:36.:53:44.

I mean, it's cool. It's cool. Bailey, by the way, normally, you

:53:45.:53:49.

can't shut him up. He is lost for words. Dad, I think this is the

:53:50.:53:52.

first time you have seen this, isn't it? I know your dad inspires you,

:53:53.:53:58.

and you wanted to compete the triathlon with him. What is next on

:53:59.:54:07.

the agenda? Five triathlons. Probably back-to-back as well.

:54:08.:54:10.

Well, I think we are going to be seeing and hearing a lot

:54:11.:54:13.

Ladies and gentlemen, Bailey Matthews!

:54:14.:54:16.

Coming up, we celebrate a lifetime of winners. Look back onnal world in

:57:37.:57:41.

has ever had anybody represented. I'm here representing the guys on

:57:42.:57:45.

what we have achieved this year but definitely Rugby League. What a

:57:46.:57:49.

dream final season for you of Rugby League, with these guys, you

:57:50.:57:53.

couldn't have written that? I need thank these so much. I play such a

was moving on at the end of March. As a sports player, performer, you

:58:03.:58:06.

have an idea how you would like to bow out you and that was winning the

:58:07.:58:11.

grand final on my final game but along the way we got closer and

:58:12.:58:16.

closer and to wint treble having had 18 attempts, and I know how tough it

is to win one trophy in our sport is incredibly difficult so to win three

sport. He has set the standard by example. Ladies and gentlemen, he is

:58:55.:58:58.

Rugby League record breaker, Kevin Sinfield.

:58:59.:58:59.

APPLAUSE There were lots of good

:59:00.:59:07.

days in Leeds this year. As well as home to the rampaging

:59:08.:59:10.

Rhinos, Headingley was the base for Yorkshire's second consecutive

:59:11.:59:12.

county cricket triumph. And it was one of their batsmen,

:59:13.:59:14.

Joe Root, who played a starring role for England

:59:15.:59:17.

as they beat the Aussies and regained the Ashes

:59:18.:59:19.

in a series so quick, It seems rather appropriate that I

:59:20.:59:33.

look out over the home of cricket. A game of long tradition, in which

:59:34.:59:37.

patience is a virtue. Something changed this summer. It all suddenly

:59:38.:59:43.

seemed a bit rushed. The First Test, and despite a few close shaves

:59:44.:59:47.

earlier on for the young Joe Root, the cherub of England's batting

:59:48.:59:51.

line-up, wasn't put off his stride? COMMENTATOR: They are all rooting

:59:52.:59:55.

for Joe. A great start, I thought. But this new Brand of Test cricket

:59:56.:00:00.

retained its ebbs and flows and the tables turned when they came here to

:00:01.:00:05.

Lord's. Australia have won magnificently.

:00:06.:00:10.

Well, it sent me into a bit of a spin. The series proceeded to

:00:11.:00:15.

Birmingham, where Jimmy joined the party. Out in 46 overs, the visitors

:00:16.:00:21.

could not recover on this occasion. Penultimate Test. Trent Bridge. One

:00:22.:00:26.

victory from regaining the urn and time was running out for Australia.

:00:27.:00:32.

Stuart Broad at his Steve dating best. Stuart Broad has taken 8-15.

:00:33.:00:42.

COMMENTATOR: Bowled him. COMMENTATOR: England has regained

:00:43.:00:45.

the Ashes. The fifth Test was a dead rubber. More of a footnote and

:00:46.:00:51.

Australian victory, an end to some notable careers. And as the ticker

:00:52.:00:57.

tape streamed down on the Oval a few miles away, it was time for me to

:00:58.:01:00.

finally catch my breath. And good luck to England

:01:01.:01:06.

for their forthcoming Test series So, from the hard yards of cricket,

:01:07.:01:11.

we return to the hard roads Lizzie Armitstead won a silver medal

:01:12.:01:16.

on the Mall This year, she went one better

:01:17.:01:19.

and fulfilled her lifelong dream Riding a bike is my profession. It

:01:20.:01:39.

is the way I make a living but it is also my hobby and something that I

:01:40.:01:43.

love. I think the best part of cycling is the fact that I am

:01:44.:01:49.

outside every single day. Riding in the most beautiful countryside. It

:01:50.:01:52.

is just the place where I feel most alive.

:01:53.:02:00.

Lizzie nodes that riding a bike will make you better. She knows that

:02:01.:02:03.

working hard will make you better than everybody else in the world. I

:02:04.:02:09.

did not dream about winning a World Championships in the beginning. It

:02:10.:02:12.

took a while for me to get good enough even to dream about it. It is

:02:13.:02:20.

138 kilometres, 3.5 hours on the bike. It is, who is the strongest,

:02:21.:02:24.

who is the fastest at the end of the race? It is every single last drop

:02:25.:02:29.

of energy that you have in your body which you are just willing into the

:02:30.:02:37.

bike. I was watching it and screaming the last metres on TV.

:02:38.:02:45.

It is not often I will jump off my sofa for a bike race, but that was

:02:46.:02:49.

one of them. Gold for Lizzie Armitstead! She is

:02:50.:02:56.

the champion of the world! I drained of getting my hands in the air.

:02:57.:03:01.

Everyone does it. Went over the line and it was just like... I had just

:03:02.:03:05.

not thought about it. I could not believe it. I had done it.

:03:06.:03:12.

She's cycling's world road race champion.

:03:13.:03:14.

Lizzie, fabulous achievement - how much did those roads in Yorkshire

:03:15.:03:43.

help give you the strength to become world champion? I feel really

:03:44.:03:46.

privileged that I grew up in Yorkshire. It is a brutal place to

:03:47.:03:51.

train. The terrain is just relentless. Every training session

:03:52.:03:56.

you do is hard work. And it has made me into a champion. I am just really

:03:57.:04:00.

grateful to the local community, to my family everyone. It is a team

:04:01.:04:06.

effort. It has certainly been a magnificent effort, but it has not

:04:07.:04:11.

all been plain sailing this year. In the Women's Tour of Britain, you had

:04:12.:04:17.

a little bit of an accident. I mean, that is pretty nasty. You must have

:04:18.:04:21.

shown real Yorkshire grit to get through that and get back on the

:04:22.:04:25.

bike again? I suppose crashing is part of my sport. I risk it every

:04:26.:04:30.

day I go out on the bike. I was up two days later, back on the bike and

:04:31.:04:35.

I won the national championships one week later. So it looks worse than

:04:36.:04:43.

it was! Made of strong stuff! You of course won our first medal at London

:04:44.:04:48.

2012, and it was a silver medal. Rio next year, looking for gold? Yes, of

:04:49.:04:54.

course. The silver lining I suppose with the silver medal is that you

:04:55.:04:56.

have still got that top step to go for. So, all info Rio, yes,.

:04:57.:05:02.

Good luck for Rio and for tonight's main award, Lizzie Armitstead!

:05:03.:05:19.

Scorching heat at Wimbledon. Enjoyed by some, endured by others. Only a

:05:20.:05:32.

few can stay cool. There was icy calm from Heather Watson, who took

:05:33.:05:35.

Serena to the edge. Only to find herself forced backwards. The

:05:36.:05:42.

momentum of a champion. The Queen of Centre Court once more! For Murray,

:05:43.:05:52.

Federer put the final out of reach. But he could not overcome the

:05:53.:05:56.

sport's unstoppable force. Jordanne Whiley also kept winning. The

:05:57.:06:01.

doubles here. The singles at the US Open. The weather had turned at St

:06:02.:06:08.

Andrews. An extra day, and extra holes, before Zach Johnson became

:06:09.:06:13.

champion. At the PGA, it was Jason's day. In Los Angeles, Great Britain

:06:14.:06:19.

had a special Special Olympics. 179 medals. One fossil for England at

:06:20.:06:26.

the netball World Cup. Bronze. England came up well short in the

:06:27.:06:32.

women's Ashes. Yorkshire were county champions. Gloucestershire and

:06:33.:06:39.

Lancashire triumphed in the one-day tournaments. A graceful gold or two

:06:40.:06:46.

for Charlotte Dujardin and her horse. Gold also for Sophie

:06:47.:06:52.

Christensen. Scott Brush leapt to a Grand Slam. England won penalty

:06:53.:07:00.

shoot-out in the hockey, and with it, the trophy.

:07:01.:07:02.

Congratulations indeed to the England women's hockey team

:07:03.:07:11.

And just a quick reminder to say that voting will open very shortly

:07:12.:07:17.

It's now time for our Lifetime Achievement Award.

:07:23.:07:29.

Reflecting decades of dedication, recipients in the past

:07:30.:07:31.

include the great George Best, Pele, Martina Navratilova,

:07:32.:07:38.

To present it, please welcome a sporting legend

:07:39.:07:42.

four-time Major winner and the 2015 World Tour champion Rory McIlroy!

:07:43.:07:56.

What a reception, Rory. I think they like you hear! It is great that we

:07:57.:08:21.

are here in Northern Ireland and that you can be here with us. It

:08:22.:08:28.

must mean a lot? Yes, once I heard that sporty was going to be in

:08:29.:08:31.

Belfast, it was the first thing in my diary this year. It is absolutely

:08:32.:08:37.

fantastic. Eight rate event like this coming to Belfast, to see what

:08:38.:08:41.

Northern Ireland has to offer. It is wonderful to have you here with us.

:08:42.:08:46.

Bit of an injury this season, followed by a great finish to the

:08:47.:08:50.

season. You have got all of the Majors except the one. It would be

:08:51.:08:54.

lovely to have a nice Irish green jacket on your back? Hopefully, that

:08:55.:08:59.

is the goal. I have got three out of the four. I would have had a decent

:09:00.:09:03.

chance if it was not for some 21-year-old this year! But

:09:04.:09:07.

obviously, that is the big thing on the agenda, trying to win the

:09:08.:09:12.

Masters. I will put everything into that to try and do it. We wish you

:09:13.:09:14.

well. As we know, sport at the highest

:09:15.:09:15.

level is all about winning. But in racing, particularly

over jumps, you're going to ride more losers than winners,

:10:06.:10:14.

incredible man. COMMENTATOR: He has done it! What a

:10:15.:10:25.

hero! What a jockey! I often thought that I had more of

:10:26.:10:31.

an empathy with horses than I did with people. What makes top sports

:10:32.:10:35.

people is that they work harder than everyone else. And they want to

:10:36.:10:39.

continue to try to get better. Tony's life is exceptional. Somehow

:10:40.:10:44.

he masters energy and strive out of the horse that no-one else can do.

:10:45.:10:52.

All jockeys have courage, but Tony's courage seems to extend further. I

:10:53.:10:59.

always thought I was unbreakable. I always thought this was the most

:11:00.:11:03.

wonderful way of life to go and do a job which excites you like that

:11:04.:11:08.

every day. The life I have had, and plenty of people I could admire,

:11:09.:11:13.

Tony definitely stands apart. From a very young age, he knew what

:11:14.:11:22.

he wanted, definitely. Even now he is competitive, even with his

:11:23.:11:28.

two-year-old child. He decided to do something and he put everything into

:11:29.:11:36.

it. He is still the same. Home is home. I am proud of his

:11:37.:11:42.

achievements. But he has been extremely good to us, to his father

:11:43.:11:49.

and I. That makes me very proud. I have been lucky enough to have a lot

:11:50.:11:54.

of great days in racing. But the most defining moment was probably

:11:55.:12:09.

winning the Grand National. I was, Jesus, he is going to when it! It

:12:10.:12:20.

was a great achievement. Great for us. To be champion jockey 20 years

:12:21.:12:28.

in a row, it is unbelievable. I think to myself, did I leave

:12:29.:12:31.

anything out there, behind me? I don't think I could have worked any

:12:32.:12:35.

harder. I could have achieved more but the only way I could have

:12:36.:12:39.

achieved that is if I was lucky enough to have a go at it.

:12:40.:12:45.

We are thrilled to be joined by so many famous faces

:12:46.:12:47.

from the world of racing to pay tribute to a National hero.

:12:48.:12:50.

The Lifetime Achievement for 2015 goes to the magnificient...

:12:51.:12:52.

I would not be able to speak after that. But I know you will be able

:12:53.:14:25.

to. Go for it! Can I just say what an honour and a privilege it is to

:14:26.:14:30.

receive such a prestigious award, especially here in Belfast. Being

:14:31.:14:42.

from Northern Ireland, a place which has produced so many talented and

:14:43.:14:47.

successful sports people, none more so than the fella on my right, it

:14:48.:14:51.

makes tonight even more special. Racing is a wonderful sport. I was

:14:52.:14:55.

very lucky to live my life as a jockey through it. Two that I will

:14:56.:15:01.

be for ever grateful. There are so many people that I would like to

:15:02.:15:12.

thank. I would like to thank, I rode nearly 18,000 races and I would like

:15:13.:15:15.

to thank the horses that I was able to ride in those...

:15:16.:15:17.

Because without them this would not be possible. I would like to thank

:15:18.:15:28.

the stable lads and lasses who looked after them so well. And

:15:29.:15:31.

believe me, they looked after them better than you could believe.

:15:32.:15:35.

To the BBC obviously for this. This is amazing. I would like to

:15:36.:15:43.

congratulate all of tonight's 12 contestants and wish them the best

:15:44.:15:46.

of luck. APPLAUSE

:15:47.:15:54.

Finally, to any young people watching tonight's show, or that are

:15:55.:16:02.

here this evening - all I can say is - make the sacrifices, because it is

:16:03.:16:04.

worth it. Thank you very much. Our Lifetime Achievement Award

:16:05.:16:17.

winner, Northern Ireland's very own, AP McCoy.

:16:18.:16:25.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:16:26.:16:50.

Bronze for Great Britain. Oh, he gets it. A new British record. Two

:16:51.:17:02.

golds to Bolt. . . Is there no end to what this man can do? Oh. Well,

:17:03.:17:10.

that's a cue for us to segway into our next track and field contender.

:17:11.:17:20.

next year, the statuesque Mo Farah could complete a quadruple

:17:21.:17:24.

double of long-distance global golds after another

:17:25.:17:25.

devastating one-two at the World Championships.

:17:26.:17:26.

COMMENTATOR: Mo is the greatest Sportsman Britain has ever had. How

:17:27.:17:32.

do you define greatness? Some, it is said, are born that way. For other,

:17:33.:17:38.

well, the raw materials need to be shaped and refined over the years.

:17:39.:17:43.

As a youngster I loved football. I wasn't as good at football as I am

:17:44.:17:49.

at running. To be great is to leave a lasting legacy. That changed my

:17:50.:17:53.

whole life. Two gold medals in front of my home crowd. Once in a

:17:54.:17:57.

lifetime, I guess. Perhaps greatness is taking those once in a lifetime

:17:58.:18:02.

moments, and making them look like they happen every day. I love

:18:03.:18:06.

running. It is what I do and what I'm good at. This year has been,

:18:07.:18:10.

without a doubt, the greatest challenge of his career. You've just

:18:11.:18:15.

got to put it behind you, let your running do the talking. Yet every

:18:16.:18:24.

questioned asked of him, on and off the track, he answered, and then

:18:25.:18:28.

some. COMMENTATOR: Mo Farah is the World Champion again. There would be

:18:29.:18:33.

no stopping this gold rush. In August, his history was made by a

:18:34.:18:39.

true legend of the sport. A long distance trim double. -- triple

:18:40.:18:45.

double. The greatest-ever? That debate will continue. But there can

:18:46.:18:53.

be no denying mo Farah's success. He is immortalised in British sport. An

:18:54.:18:57.

icon. And once again, a World Champion.

:18:58.:19:01.

How proud are you of your achievements over this last year?

:19:02.:19:17.

Good evening. It has been amazing. I'm very proud to make the double

:19:18.:19:21.

again. I want it continue winning medals. That's what drives me. You

:19:22.:19:26.

know, it is just great. What do you put this golden run down to? I just

:19:27.:19:33.

love what I do. Every day, you know, I go out there in training and put

:19:34.:19:37.

the miles and effort in. It is something, you know, as a kid, it is

:19:38.:19:41.

something that you know, I was good at and later on, I could be really

:19:42.:19:45.

good. What really drives me is being on the podium and putting the miles

:19:46.:19:49.

in. I guess just hard work and dedication. Mo, you are not really

:19:50.:19:53.

good, you are incredible. They haven't worked out how to beat you.

:19:54.:19:58.

They keep trying different tactics but you keep outfoxing them? Yes,

:19:59.:20:03.

definitely. You know, you learn along the way. I have been doing it

:20:04.:20:07.

since I was 12 years' old. I'm almost 33 now. Over the years you

:20:08.:20:12.

have been learning, race after race and it is confidence as well. And

:20:13.:20:16.

for me, since London 2012, everything has changed and everybody

:20:17.:20:21.

is there watching you. You can't just go into races and go out there

:20:22.:20:24.

thinking - no-one will know about me. They know what you are going to

:20:25.:20:29.

do. It is hard but as you get older, it gets harder. But Rio around the

:20:30.:20:36.

corner and we will see about that. You get older, and wiser and more

:20:37.:20:41.

children there is a new Mo on the block. Tell us about your baby boy?

:20:42.:20:46.

I'm a proud dad again. My family is growing. I'm very lucky to have a

:20:47.:20:53.

great family, my wife and my kids. My girls and my young boy now.

:20:54.:20:57.

Hopefully, I want him to play football one day. That's my dream.

:20:58.:21:02.

You are lucky to have them. We are lucky to have you. Thank you so much

:21:03.:21:07.

and best of luck tonight. Ladies and gentlemen, Mo Farah. Good luck to

:21:08.:21:11.

everybody taking part tonight. APPLAUSE

:21:12.:21:43.

Blink and you'd have missed some of those names -

:21:44.:21:45.

but overall, Britain and Ireland have an impressive 13 world

:21:46.:21:48.

title holders, one of whom is our next contender.

:21:49.:21:50.

Less than a month ago, not many people backed Tyson Fury

:21:51.:21:53.

in his bid to beat the great Wladimir Klitchko.

:21:54.:21:55.

But he paid no attention, prepared HIS way and delivered one

:21:56.:21:59.

of the year's knockout stories to become heavyweight champion

:22:00.:22:01.

Past champions are like names in the sand. One day they are gone.

:22:02.:22:19.

Vladimir Klitschko is gone. It's my time now. I am the gypsy warrior.

:22:20.:22:26.

COMMENTATOR: Heavyweight Champion of the World, baby. I am from my mother

:22:27.:22:35.

and I am a fighter. I always knew I'd do it. I always said I would do

:22:36.:22:39.

it. Not confident in knocking him out. I never said how I'd do it.

:22:40.:22:45.

Vladimir Klitschko is a great champion. Unbelievable record.

:22:46.:22:49.

Unbeaten in 11 years. You are getting knocked out mate. I'm the

:22:50.:22:53.

man, I'm the king. Composed, measured. Professional. No-one has

:22:54.:23:01.

got close to beating him recently but no-one has tried to mess with

:23:02.:23:04.

him. Mess with his head. No-one has go the any faith. No-one as big as

:23:05.:23:13.

me. Tyson Fury. I move quick for a big guy. Elusive, awkward. I was

:23:14.:23:20.

Klitschko's worse nightmare. COMMENTATOR: A crashing left hook

:23:21.:23:24.

for Fury I knew I had him. I could see it in his eyes. He didn't want

:23:25.:23:31.

it. From the United Kingdom, Tyson Fury Sing a little song, do a little

:23:32.:23:36.

dance. Get down. I'm different, unconventional.

:23:37.:23:42.

# I don't want to close my eyes...# I'm what the great sport of boxing

:23:43.:23:47.

needed. Like I said, I'm the Heavyweight Champion of the World.

:23:48.:23:51.

That sounds sweet. He is here tonight, the giant that is Tyson

:23:52.:23:53.

Fury. Shall we start with a fight? -- with

:23:54.:24:24.

the fight? You went into it. Not too many, bar yourself of course, gave

:24:25.:24:28.

you much of a chance against the great champion but you won

:24:29.:24:31.

comfortably and you are now the Champion of the World? How proud do

:24:32.:24:35.

you feel for your achievement? APPLAUSE Well, Gary, it is something

:24:36.:24:46.

I have been working for since I have been about this big, about one

:24:47.:24:51.

years' old. It has took 27 years for me to get to where I am now. Many

:24:52.:24:55.

people in the world. 7 billion people in the world and there is

:24:56.:24:59.

only one Heavyweight Champion of the World and that's me. For me to say

:25:00.:25:03.

that, I'm very, very proud. I can imagine. Now, since the fight, I

:25:04.:25:07.

think it is fair to say, you divide opinion and there has been something

are your reflections looking back at the fallout that has happened

subkept to the fight? With? With things you have said. I have said a

:25:25.:25:28.

lot of things. None with intentions to hurt anybody. It is tuning in

:25:29.:25:33.

cheek. It is fun and games. I'm in the a serious person. Everything is

:25:34.:25:36.

happy go lucky. If I said anything in the past that has hurt anybody. I

:25:37.:25:40.

apologise to anybody that has been hurt out there. It is not my

:25:41.:25:44.

intention to do that. You are 27 years' old. You have Klitschko again

:25:45.:25:48.

next. Do you think you can dominate this division for a while? You know,

:25:49.:25:53.

I spoke to my dad about this, for many, many times. You know, we

:25:54.:25:57.

always said if I go on and win another 2,000 fights from now on,

:25:58.:26:02.

nothing will ever top the fight I just had in Germany with Vladimir

:26:03.:26:07.

Klitschko that was the be-all and end-all for me. Every match I have

:26:08.:26:11.

done, put them altogether it wouldn't be half as good as the

:26:12.:26:16.

world title I have just won. It was a very special performance.

:26:17.:26:21.

Congratulations. Tyson Fury, ladies and gentlemen.

:26:22.:26:22.

APPLAUSE Time now for our 12th and final

:26:23.:26:31.

:27:11.:27:16.

The waiting is over. What next? Davis Cup. I can win that. . We can

:27:17.:27:23.

win that. So, let's do this. Talk about inspiration. You guys just

:27:24.:27:28.

don't realise who you have got here. When it got hot, he got hotter.

:27:29.:27:32.

COMMENTATOR: The Americans beaten. Tough, he was tougher. COMMENTATOR:

:27:33.:27:38.

A phenomenal effort? Hard? Harder. He reminds me of someone. When you

:27:39.:27:45.

get a guy like that, you follow him, anywhere. Everywhere. You become a

:27:46.:27:51.

winning team. Absolutely magnificent from James Ward. What a shot from

Jamie Murray We stuck together like brothers should. Tait tat the

:28:18.:28:22.

COMMENTATOR: The Davis Cup, which hasn't been in Great Britain since

:28:23.:28:28.

1936 is on its way back Andy Murray, unbeaten, unbeatable. There's your

:28:29.:28:30.

history. CHEERING AND

:28:31.:28:34.

APPLAUSE And the trophy is here. The biggest

:28:35.:28:40.

thing in sport. It weighs 105 kilos. And here in the men who woman it.

:28:41.:28:44.

Alongside Great Britain's victorious Davis Cup team,

:28:45.:28:45.

-- and here are the men who o won it.

:28:46.:28:57.

Andy, you made the Davis Cup an absolute priority this year, even at

:28:58.:29:16.

the expense of individual success. Why was it so important to you?

:29:17.:29:21.

Well, I mean, all of the guys that are standing behind me, Leon, who is

:29:22.:29:25.

the captain of the team, he coached me when I was 1 #1, obviously my

:29:26.:29:29.

brother is in the team and everyone else I'm very good friends with. We

:29:30.:29:33.

spend our whole year, obviously just as individuals usually but to get

:29:34.:29:37.

this with all these guys was unbelievably special. I actually

:29:38.:29:42.

feel bad standing here. We should be standing in a line together.

:29:43.:29:49.

I think it is fair enough. And as I said number 2 in the world, so not a

:29:50.:29:55.

shoddy year for you. As John McEnroe said in the film, when it gets hot,

:29:56.:29:59.

you get hotter. Did you find out things about yourself playing in the

:30:00.:30:02.

Davis Cup this year that you didn't know? The atmosphere in the Davis

:30:03.:30:06.

Cups is unbelievable. It is not like any of the other tournaments we play

:30:07.:30:12.

during the year. You know, the last tie was 13,000 people away from home

:30:13.:30:17.

in Belgium. Packed every day. Yes, I found a level of performance that I

:30:18.:30:20.

wasn't able to find in the other tournaments during the year and I

:30:21.:30:24.

don't know exactly why that is. But I need to try to work it out for

:30:25.:30:28.

next year. History tells us winning the Davis Cup is good for individual

:30:29.:30:34.

form the following season? Yeah, well, Novak Djokovic, a few years

:30:35.:30:38.

ago won, I think it was 2010, the Davis Cup and the next year won

:30:39.:30:42.

three Grand Slams. I don't know if that's going to happen for me. You

:30:43.:30:49.

know, I've only ever won two in my career but I hope so. It was a huge

:30:50.:30:54.

boost and a great way to finish the year. It's been a sensational year.

:30:55.:30:57.

It is about to get better. A lifestyle change. We have had a lot

:30:58.:31:01.

of baby talk tonight and he has one due in the early new year. The more

:31:02.:31:05.

Murrays the motherier for British tennis. Good luck to you and Tim.

:31:06.:31:10.

Many congratulations on a terrific 2015. Our final contender tonight,

Andy Murray. Thank you. The atmosphere in here tonight has

tested. There would be heroes,

but not the hosts. Others in the European

Close enough to make a referee run for cover. From now on, the southern

England. England, inwardly turning dark. There would be giants. And how

:36:40.:36:49.

they thundered. What a mark they left

:36:50.:36:51.

on the land of hope and glory. And how we still feel

:36:52.:36:56.

their presence among us. Thank you so much to the brilliant

:36:57.:37:12.

stage and screen actor Ian McElhinney for that performance.

:37:13.:37:17.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are indeed in the company

:37:18.:37:19.

Please welcome New Zealand legend Dan Carter!

:37:20.:37:30.

Dan, it is magical to have you with us tonight. Tarver joining us. That

:37:31.:38:05.

World Cup was so special, but for you, how much was it on your mind

:38:06.:38:09.

what had happened to you personally back in 2011, and you did not make

:38:10.:38:16.

it to that final through injury? Yes, it was a pretty to moment in my

:38:17.:38:23.

career. Just before the play-offs I have a serious injury which ruled me

:38:24.:38:28.

out. I was 29 then and I thought it was probably the end of my

:38:29.:38:32.

international career. But I decided to go for it for another four years

:38:33.:38:37.

and give 2015, let that be my swansong. In 2013-14, I think I

:38:38.:38:45.

strung together five or six games. I just had so many injuries. I was on

:38:46.:38:51.

the borderline of retiring. So to go on the World Cup here in London, it

:38:52.:38:57.

was fantastic. Just to play alongside my team-mates, they pretty

:38:58.:39:05.

much just gave me an easy ride. You were the player of the tournament so

:39:06.:39:08.

it must have felt like redemption for you. Sadly the world of rugby

:39:09.:39:14.

:39:16.:39:28.

Personality Of The Year 20 years ago. Can you put into words what he

:39:29.:39:35.

did for the sport? He is an absolute legend of the sport. It was a major

:39:36.:39:39.

shock to all of us. He changed the sport for ever. He is the sole

:39:40.:39:44.

reason that rugby became professional. 20 years ago, when he

:39:45.:39:49.

won this award. It was far too early. I was lucky enough to get to

:39:50.:39:54.

know him and he is just such a caring, thoughtful guy. He is sorely

:39:55.:40:04.

missed by everyone. This was an online poll and you have beaten many

:40:05.:40:09.

top sports people. So, huge congratulations. Ladies and

your priority for 2016? It is pretty simple, I want to be the Wimbledon

does that say? We tried this last year. All you have to do is,

everyone at home and everyone in the arena tonight, just thank a sporting

volunteer that they know, and if we do this, we can get it trending.

:44:41.:44:45.

Last year we got it trending around the world. We would like to try to

sport possible for so many people. With that in mind, here is the story

:45:24.:45:29.

of tonight's winner. Damian Lindsay is 44 and from West

:45:30.:45:44.

Belfast. Five years ago, rioting and anti-social behaviour plagued the

:45:45.:45:56.

place he called home. His answer was to start St James' Park text lifts.

:45:57.:46:02.

When masked men fired shots during training, others left, but reap what

:46:03.:46:10.

you row stayed. Many were involved in drugs and serious crime, but with

:46:11.:46:20.

Daien's help, they persevered. If it was not for him, I would be still

:46:21.:46:24.

out doing crime and stuff. Now I have a beautiful child and a

:46:25.:46:30.

girlfriend, a family. Damien is so much more than a football coach. He

:46:31.:46:35.

is mentor, an inspiration and most importantly, a friend. It is a

:46:36.:46:41.

brilliant story. Let's now meet the 2015 Get Inspired Unsung Hero,

:46:42.:46:43.

Damien Lindsay! Many, many congratulations. I'm sure

:46:44.:47:26.

would like to say a few words? Folks, thank you very much. This

:47:27.:47:33.

award could have gone to any of the regional winners, thousands of

:47:34.:47:36.

people across Belfast and dozens of people in my own community at St

:47:37.:47:46.

James's. Thank you very much. This year's Unsung Hero, Damien Lindsay!

:47:47.:48:03.

Still to come, we tell a story of euro glory. We reveal the top coach

:48:04.:48:13.

and team from 2015. And finally, just before nine o'clock, we will

:48:14.:48:17.

announce the Sports Personality of the Year.

:48:18.:49:28.

And what matters in football next year is Euro 2016.

:49:29.:49:32.

Played across France, there is to be a strong UK and Irish

:49:33.:49:35.

contingent, and to talk us through the qualification story

:49:36.:49:37.

is a Northern Irishman who is more than qualified

:49:38.:49:40.

Who are we to expect things of others? But we do. In love, in life,

:49:41.:49:53.

in football. You know, the three most important things. So when

:49:54.:49:58.

England win their Euros qualifying group, win every game, every game,

:49:59.:50:03.

is it enough? Records tumbling, one that hadn't been touched for 40-odd

:50:04.:50:10.

years. Bobby Charlton's England goal-scoring record has gone. Fair

:50:11.:50:14.

play, Wayne. Another major tournament appearance but only

:50:15.:50:19.

what's expected. Scotland and the Republic's qualification was more

:50:20.:50:23.

about hope than expectation. In the same group, with the world Champions

:50:24.:50:27.

and Poland, they weren't both going to make it, were they? COMMENTATOR:

:50:28.:50:31.

Scottish hearts are broken But could one? The Republic of Ireland are

:50:32.:50:36.

going to the European Championship finals. As for Wales. Well, what

:50:37.:50:41.

could they expect? They've go the a good team, one genuine superstar. --

:50:42.:50:46.

they've got. But we have been here before. The fact is, Wales haven't

:50:47.:50:51.

been to a tournament in 50-odd years. Giggsy wasn't even a glint in

:50:52.:50:55.

his mummy's eye. But something changed this year. Some good

:50:56.:50:59.

results. Belief grows. Suddenly expectations are being exceeded.

:51:00.:51:03.

COMMENTATOR: Wales will be in France next summer.

:51:04.:51:08.

Talking about going beyond expectation - what about my boys?

:51:09.:51:10.

What was expected of Northern Ireland? Nothing. Hehaw. No star

:51:11.:51:18.

players, no great history. A side from probably the best player anyone

:51:19.:51:25.

has ever seen. But what we've got is heart, spirit, fight. And when

:51:26.:51:33.

Windsor Park is rockin, it sounds like all of Belfast, Bangor,

:51:34.:51:38.

Ballymena and everywhere in between is screaming... Green army, green

:51:39.:51:42.

army. COMMENTATOR: They are there, they have done it. When you don't

:51:43.:51:46.

expect much and you get a lot, a whole lot more than you bargained

:51:47.:51:51.

for. It feels fantastic. Bloody fantastic. It leaves you wanting

:51:52.:51:57.

more. Euro 2016. Bring it on! CHEERING AND

:51:58.:51:57.

APPLAUSE Thanks to Jimmy for that. You should

:51:58.:52:09.

have heard the cheer in here when Northern Ireland were mentioned. One

:52:10.:52:19.

more time, Northern Ireland. Something like that.

:52:20.:52:31.

It's also great to have the O'Neills brains trust

:52:32.:52:33.

Michael of Northern Ireland and Martin of the Republic

:52:34.:52:36.

And they will be among the runners and riders I'm

:52:37.:52:39.

sure for our next award, which is for Coach of the Year.

:52:40.:52:42.

To present it, please welcome former Olympic gold medallist

:52:43.:52:44.

Denise Lewis and 2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell!

:52:45.:53:07.

Great to see you both, here's a look at a long list of some

:53:08.:53:10.

Graeme can you do the honours for us, please?

:53:11.:53:43.

We are not Brazil, we are Northern Ireland, Michael O'Neil.

:53:44.:53:56.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

:53:57.:54:29.

Congratulations Michael, a fantastic achievement what you have done this

:54:30.:54:32.

season. Most certainly the biggest cheer of the night. I would love you

:54:33.:54:34.

to say a few words, please. APPLAUSE Thank you, thank you.

:54:35.:54:44.

APPLAUSE CONTINUES force I'll try and say something sensible,

:54:45.:55:03.

hopefully. It is amazing to be here tonight, as Rory touched upon t as

:55:04.:55:09.

AP touched on it, to bring an event like this to Belfast is something

:55:10.:55:14.

special. To be here on this stage as the manager of my country and to be

:55:15.:55:18.

going to France is very special for me as well, obviously as well.

:55:19.:55:21.

APPLAUSE First of all I would like to

:55:22.:55:33.

congratulate all the other nominees. There are fantastic coaches in the

:55:34.:55:38.

room, across all the sports. It is fairly evident when you see the

:55:39.:55:41.

achievements of everyone who is nominated so it is very humbling,

:55:42.:55:45.

obviously, to get the award here tonight. There are many people I

:55:46.:55:49.

should thank. Hopefully I don't forget anyone, so first of all, I'd

:55:50.:55:56.

like to thank - I think the Association, because two years ago,

:55:57.:55:59.

we weren't in a great place. It would have been easier for me to

:56:00.:56:03.

walk away and the Association to go for someone else. We stuck together

:56:04.:56:07.

and ultimately we are where we are today and we have had success out of

:56:08.:56:11.

that. I think I should recognise that. I've got a fantastic backroom

:56:12.:56:22.

staff, Jimmy Nicholls here tonight with me. Steven Robinson and Mike

:56:23.:56:26.

Taylor who aren't and Jupp who has been with me and the whole medical

:56:27.:56:32.

team. Everything we have. We don't have the biggest backroom staff or

:56:33.:56:36.

biggest budget but we have a great staff who work around the clock to

:56:37.:56:40.

make sure we have a chance of success and they have played every

:56:41.:56:45.

big a part in it as I have I must also thank my wife who is with me

:56:46.:56:49.

here tonight. She doesn't get to many events. She looks after my two

:56:50.:56:59.

amazing daughters Olivia and Erin and Edinburgh when I'm in exotic

:57:00.:57:03.

places like Fleetwood watching football on a Tuesday night. I would

:57:04.:57:09.

like to thank her for her support over the past campaign and over the

:57:10.:57:14.

past years. Also, it is an amazing reception you

:57:15.:57:18.

have given me, very, very humbling indeed. One thing I will say about

:57:19.:57:21.

the people of Northern Ireland is that they do support their team.

:57:22.:57:30.

APPLAUSE It is easy to support your team when

:57:31.:57:35.

it is good. It is not so easy when it is not so good. You have stuck by

:57:36.:57:40.

the team, when things were not so good, you never turned on the team

:57:41.:57:45.

and me. And it is testament to not only the people in this room but

:57:46.:57:50.

Northern Ireland as a whole, as a community and finally, just to

:57:51.:57:57.

finish off, I'd like to - AP couldn't put it any better. He would

:57:58.:58:02.

like to thank his horses. I would like to thank my players. You are

:58:03.:58:05.

not a coach at all without your players. We may not have the

:58:06.:58:08.

greatest players in the world but we have great players to work with and

:58:09.:58:13.

they have represent Northern Ireland. They come from both sided

:58:14.:58:16.

of the community. They are proud to play for Northern Ireland.

:58:17.:58:25.

APPLAUSE Ladies and gentlemen, 2015 Coach of

:58:26.:58:27.

the Year. Michael O'Neill. Incredible energy and you still have

:58:28.:58:54.

a couple of minutes to vote. We will also announce the team of the year

:58:55.:58:59.

if you have just joined us on BBC One. We have had lots to celebrate.

:59:00.:59:24.

Everseas Sports Personality of the Year Dan Carter.

:59:25.:59:29.

Bailey Matthews. Thank you.

:59:30.:59:37.

Ellie Downie. The magnificent AP McCoy.

:59:38.:59:42.

Yes, what a night it's been. The main moment is still to come, around

:59:43.:59:47.

9.00pm. It is the team of the year award now. One of two awards voted

:59:48.:59:52.

for by a BBC panel who also chose the contender's list for tonight's

:59:53.:59:56.

main award. Full details are on the BBC sports website. To present t

:59:57.:00:02.

please welcome, Dame Mary Peters and Martin O'Neil.

:00:03.:00:23.

It's has been a great year and here's

:00:24.:00:33.

some of the teams who have stood out.

:00:34.:00:59.

Dame Mary, you have the envelope, please reveal who the winner is. The

:01:00.:01:08.

2015 Team of the Year is... The Great Britain Davis Cup team.

:01:09.:01:17.

Captain Leon Smith, would you like to say a few words? Thank you very

:01:18.:01:57.

much. I have got about 60 seconds to make a fool of myself, which is

:01:58.:02:02.

probably enough. That is what these guys standing behind me want to

:02:03.:02:06.

happen! It is hugely humbling to receive this award. It is obviously

:02:07.:02:11.

very prestigious. It has been 79 years since we managed to win the

:02:12.:02:15.

Davis cup, so let's hope it does not take another 79. A big thanks to the

:02:16.:02:24.

BBC, who have covered all our ties this year, and of course to the

:02:25.:02:29.

panel who voted for us tonight. Thank you to the RTA, their

:02:30.:02:33.

volunteers, the media, and of course our wonderful fans, including the

:02:34.:02:37.

Barmy Army, who have become famous. There really have stood by us and

:02:38.:02:41.

travelled everywhere for our team. I think like most coaches out here

:02:42.:02:46.

tonight, you will realise that whilst the players and certainly

:02:47.:02:53.

myself, we get a lot of the focus, but there are many, many unsung

:02:54.:02:56.

heroes who have played a big part in as reaching this. For sure, all of

:02:57.:03:01.

these people up on stage that you see here, the support staff are also

:03:02.:03:04.

absolutely fantastic. We also have to thank our family and partners,

:03:05.:03:12.

because they sacrifice an awful lot to allow us to get on the road and

:03:13.:03:16.

travel for months on end. This is for them as much as it is for us.

:03:17.:03:23.

And I hope that what we have achieved here for tennis, which is

:03:24.:03:28.

of course the sport we love, is that we get a really lasting, meaningful

:03:29.:03:32.

legacy from this. We will make sure that everything we do moving forward

:03:33.:03:35.

into the next year's is as much about off the court is on the court

:03:36.:03:39.

to get as many kids into this great sport as we can. Thank you very much

:03:40.:03:41.

everybody. Congratulations to our

:03:42.:03:44.

Team of the Year! But who will be the 2015

:03:45.:03:49.

Sports Personality of the Year? We'll find out in a few minutes'

:03:50.:03:58.

time, as now I can announce that Please do not call as your vote

:03:59.:04:02.

will not count but you may The website also won't

:04:03.:04:07.

allow any more votes The main event then still to come,

:04:08.:04:10.

but Christmas is also about reflection.

:04:11.:04:26.

Yesterday we lost one of football's great pioneers, the one and only

:04:27.:04:32.

Jimmy Hill. Good evening and welcome to Match Of

:04:33.:04:37.

The Day on the last Saturday before the league season. I have never seen

:04:38.:04:44.

a side play with such delightful enthusiasm for the game. Good

:04:45.:04:49.

afternoon to you and welcome to Match Of The Day live from Old

:04:50.:04:56.

Trafford. Let's all sing together... 1% advantage in this game gives you

:04:57.:05:08.

a result. Thank you, Jim. I cannot think of a single person who has

:05:09.:05:11.

given as much to their sport. Football will be for ever grateful

:05:12.:05:14.

to need Jimmy Hill. It is time now to remember some of our other

:05:15.:05:20.

friends who we have said goodbye to this year.

:05:21.:05:24.

And in doing so we're delighted to be

:05:25.:05:28.

joined by Lizzie Jones, who you may remember sang

:05:29.:05:30.

at the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final in August as a tribute

:05:31.:05:33.

to her husband Danny, who died while playing

:05:34.:05:35.

Since Danny's death, as well as bringing up her

:05:36.:05:38.

one-year-old twins, Lizzie has been raising awareness for heart

:05:39.:05:41.

screening among young sportsmen and women.

:05:42.:05:43.

We are honoured she's here to sing for us tonight as part

:05:44.:05:46.

of our tribute to our beloved departed

:05:47.:05:50.

# From glen to glen, and down the mountain side

:05:51.:06:12.

# Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow

:06:13.:06:56.

Morning, everyone. It has gone straight into the confectionery

:06:57.:07:34.

stall and out again. Red Rum wins the national!

:07:35.:07:36.

A wonderful, touching moment and thanks also to Northern Ireland

:07:37.:09:43.

choir Codetta and the Ulster Orchestra, conducted by David

:09:44.:09:47.

And so we now move on to the final award of the night, as one of these

:09:48.:09:59.

12 contenders will become the 2015 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

:10:00.:10:16.

She has done it again! Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of the

:10:17.:10:26.

world! Mo Farah, five world titles. Chris Froome, Britain's first

:10:27.:10:30.

two-time winner of the Tour de France. Lewis Hamilton has won his

:10:31.:10:36.

third World Championship! Andy Murray, unbeaten in Davis Cup! The

:10:37.:10:41.

world champion is Adam Peaty of Great Britain! Rutherford takes

:10:42.:10:51.

gold! He is head and shoulders above everybody else on the field. Max

:10:52.:10:53.

Whitlock, World Championship It certainly is exciting -

:10:54.:10:59.

and to present the award, please welcome back

:11:00.:11:03.

New Zealand Rugby World Cup winner Dan Carter and Northern Ireland

:11:04.:11:05.

boxing legend Barry McGuigan. All votes have been counted

:11:06.:11:28.

and independently verified, Barry, please can you tell us

:11:29.:11:33.

who is in third place? in third place is Jessica

:11:34.:11:43.

Ennis-Hill. Can you please reveal the name of

:11:44.:12:26.

the runner-up? In second place is Kevin Sinfield.

:12:27.:12:31.

Barry - can you please now reveal who the BBC Sports Personality

:12:32.:13:14.

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2015 is the incomparable

:13:15.:13:25.

Andy Murray! Many congratulations, I am sure you

:13:26.:14:10.

would like to say a few words, Andy. Yes.

:14:11.:14:11.

Thank you very much. I genuinely did not prepare anything. I did not

:14:12.:14:26.

expect this. A friend actually sent me a message the other day with an

:14:27.:14:32.

an from a newspaper which said that Andy Murray is duller than a weekend

:14:33.:14:40.

in Worthing. Which I thought was a bit harsh - to Worthing.

:14:41.:14:54.

Yes, it is very humbling to be up here in front of so many great

:14:55.:15:01.

athletes. I am a huge sports fan and I am extremely nervous right now, so

:15:02.:15:06.

apologies for that. Congratulations to everyone who was involved

:15:07.:15:10.

tonight. I would really like to thank all of my team-mates, all of

:15:11.:15:14.

the staff over there. They were absolutely incredible. This has been

:15:15.:15:19.

a five year journey. We were down really at the bottom level of tennis

:15:20.:15:24.

and now, we are ranked number one in the world. I never thought that

:15:25.:15:25.

would be possible. I would also like to thank my

:15:26.:15:40.

family. Some of them are here, not all of them. My wife is at home. She

:15:41.:15:45.

is expecting a baby in a few weeks so is unable to travel. But I have

:15:46.:15:50.

got that to look forward to as well. I would like to thank everyone who

:15:51.:15:53.

voted for me. I really appreciate that. I dedicate my life to this

:15:54.:16:00.

sport. I work as hard as I can every single day to try and make you proud

:16:01.:16:04.

and I appreciate all of the votes. Thank you very much.

:16:05.:16:08.

Ladies and gentlemen, the BBC Sports Personality

:16:09.:16:12.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year.

:16:13.:16:29.

From all of us here in Northern Ireland's wonderful capital

:16:30.:16:31.

city, Belfast, it's a very good night!
