1994. Between them they have almost a century of bowls experience. As

the match unfolded, the first set went to John who took it

comfortably. We went into a tie-break. Commentary is coming from

Brad. Andy Thomson is playing well. He lost the first set. My sense

wrong. No cumulated shots, just the end. A decent start.

That is just going under, I think. I am surprised. When you are looking,

you are finishing a foot or so short, it is understandable. A

tie-break. You can't afford to be three or four feet away. This is the

target here, I think. That shoulder has the ankle to come

up to the jack. He should be reaching this. He is

making the draw a lot better, isn't he? This is certainly a better

effort. Normally he doesn't find the gap and he is good here. As long as

they doesn't find the gap, he edges and, he gets to the jack. That was

the only thing that could have gone wrong.

That wouldn't have been a bad shot. I am thinking of the problems. He

has is on to green bowls. The problem for John Price is that he

doesn't want to leave it either. He is calling for number one.

no, no in a tie-break. Never, ever, give the shot away. That was a

disaster. Sometimes you need this and a tie-break. Andy Thomson is

there. Very unlucky with that result. That was pushed aside very

He thought it he needed another close one. It is incredibly

he could flip the green bowl. A slim chance of flicking back out. Be

quick. So close! You could see the age of

that green. Once it was passed in the front will it looked good.

out cold. He is staying away from it this

time. He is saying to himself, I want to give the shot away. -- I

won't. This has to be the same shot,

surely. He was so close. I think so. An interesting shot but it wasn't

enough. He was so good last time. No timeouts remaining.

that during the game. This is what we have managed to get, it is all

down to a 1-man shootout. John Price will have the last bowl.

Highly entertaining. It hasn't shifted on this one. I have been

enjoying every single one. Our prediction was good. A bit of magic

from one of these. They will get a place in the quarter-finals. Very

good. A five inch gap. I thought it was a bit smaller. Can he slide it

in? Here We Go. A perfect road. How is this for a winner? Here comes

some magic. John Price. The clear run. His front

paws are very valuable. He is maybe going to try and make the target

spot. You really don't want to give the shot away. I hope he remembers

this. I am not sure because he is moving

I think just because you are in a very good position... He has that

spot covered. That has to be something short, doesn't it.

He is down the line for the shortfall. This is going to force

John into playing over the way. He will try and move it. I don't think

you will be able to get inside. A driver as he plays beforehand.

This is a hard shot to play. I have to say, this is a wonderful game.

The 58 -year-old Andy Thomson was defeated. The 53 -year-old... Andy

is through to the quarter-finals. Also through to the last day as

Paul, the champion at the expense of the English competitor. The

favourite, Paul Foster is through to the quarter-finals but who will he

play? Will Alex Marshall Gary Smith? Took part.

This has been negated by Marshall. Second bowl. Gary has played a few

of those tonight. It isn't causing Alex Joe Mennie problems. He is

perfecting in the end. He has picked up a single. He has lost seven

shots. This is unusual for Alex. This is a wide bowl. Every time he

does this, he is over adjusting. He is from one of the best indoor

bowling clubs in the UK. It is a super place to play bowls. It is a

very fast carpet. Big problems for Kerry. -- Gary.

Lovely. I feel that Gary is going to need to

score. He needs to play well. An excellent delivery. He has left no

catch. He was slightly away from Gary Smith. He is going for the

conversion shot on the forehand. He needs a connection. He didn't really

get what he wanted. He was always going to be on the right-hand side.

A definite one possible, maybe two. Every shot is valuable. At the

moment Alex is doing all of the business. He is just pulling away

early. He is getting some very good bowls.

He is starting to group them. He kept the pressure on Gary Smith.

Every time, he is missing something and he is losing doubles. That is

the difficulty. See that run of single and three to us. The metal of

the set like that. He is in a heap of trouble. Alex Marshall. He scores

one here. He is into the quarter-finals.

A lovely quarter-final line-up tomorrow. Everyone will be looking

for this one. As Alex kept it over long, which are definitely looks

like it will, his best friend, Paul. Will be in the quarter-final.

a fairly close shot. Alex will try and make his way

roughly two feet and wet. They didn't want to put another one

He needs to find a good bowl, Gary, the championship as on his back. He

will be waiting on the third delivery on the line. Not bad.

That needs to stop. A great bowl from Gary Smith. It really is.

It was close, that distance. It came across. He may be prolonging the

agony. He has pushed all the through to the last and of the set. He needs

a four. He needed to find a really good bowl and he got it. It is not

impossible but it is unusual, isn't it? It happens when you least expect

it and rarely when you are looking for it.

They are going to open it up now. They then number three will be the

secret, Alex Marshall's bowls in the first of each of them consistent

especially since Gary has struggled without an early bowl. Two greens at

the back. I think he will cover those.

To green bowls. Anything from this position is going to be good. The

position hasn't set up a Gary, to be fair. He was just behind. There is a

chance, a hard one, but it is there. Second set of the match, Alex

Marshall. 11 shots to six. He eases his way into the quarter-final.

Eight shots to three, 11 shots to six, Alex Marshall into the

quarter-finals. It is opened, quarter-final line-up is a all

Scottish match. Andy Thomson is going to play Robert. Jonathan Ross
