Welcome to Maryland, the autumn colours creeping into the hills. We

:00:24.:00:28.

have some skiing here, but while we still have some summer sunshine, it

:00:29.:00:33.

is time for the World Championships in Canoe slalom.

:00:34.:00:52.

Even better in the World Championships last year in Prague.

:00:53.:01:00.

The familiar face, charging through that first gate. Dave Lawrence can

:01:01.:01:04.

get in amongst them here. He has a really good chance. David Florence

:01:05.:01:06.

is the world champion. Malorie Franklin will want to maintain her

:01:07.:01:09.

form, and find the quickest way possible down the course. Switches.

:01:10.:01:14.

Great silver medal for Great Britain. Richard Hounslow here, they

:01:15.:01:19.

were very close to the Olympic champions, they got the silver.

:01:20.:01:23.

Florence could become the first man in 60 years to win two gold medals.

:01:24.:01:29.

Looking very good so far. Buoy oh buoy, did they stay close to that

:01:30.:01:30.

one. If you're confused about the

:01:31.:01:42.

complexities of this sport, the Cs and Ks, canoes and kayaks, mall ory

:01:43.:01:51.

is coming to the rescue. Here's her quick guide. This is my kayak. It's

:01:52.:01:59.

a slightly different shape to my canoe. This is my paddle. Two ends

:02:00.:02:04.

which gives me the second blade as opposed to my canoe with one. This

:02:05.:02:09.

is my boat. You get in it. Put your feet out in front of you. Feet go to

:02:10.:02:16.

foot rest. Here. Then my legs go to the side which gives stability in

:02:17.:02:24.

the boat. This is my canoe. I use a single

:02:25.:02:24.

bladed paddle with a T grip so This is my canoe. I use a single

:02:25.:02:32.

angle the blade. To get in this boat it is slightly more

:02:33.:02:35.

angle the blade. To get in this boat quite tight. You tuck your legs

:02:36.:02:38.

underneath you like this. Once in the boat, you strap yourself in and

:02:39.:02:46.

do both straps up. Nice and tight. It is slightly uncomfortable. I

:02:47.:02:49.

can't sit in it for that long. You get used to it. It is nice and

:02:50.:02:56.

secure, nice and tight. This course might look natural but it is all

:02:57.:03:03.

man-made. It throws up all sorts of complexities for the canoeists to

:03:04.:03:06.

manage. British pad letter Beth Latham takes you through some of the

:03:07.:03:12.

key points on the course. Here we are at the top of the

:03:13.:03:17.

course. The same gate sequence as in qualifications. The guys have had

:03:18.:03:22.

two runs. You need to get the rhythm on the boat and speed up from gate 3

:03:23.:03:29.

to 4. Here we are at gates 7, 8 and. We've

:03:30.:03:36.

two upstream gates. They have to paddle in an upstream direction. The

:03:37.:03:41.

water is more inconsistent which is more challenging for the pad letter

:03:42.:03:45.

when crossing over the flow. Here we've one of the biggest water

:03:46.:03:52.

features on the course dropping with big waives. The pad letter has to

:03:53.:04:00.

decide to keep as much momentum on the boat as possible. Here we are at

:04:01.:04:07.

the bottom of the course, the pad letters' arms are aching by this

:04:08.:04:12.

point which is made hearder by a tight offset into gate 22. Down here

:04:13.:04:16.

it is really important to stay to the plan and get to the bottom of

:04:17.:04:21.

the course as quickly as possible. Our first final is going to be the

:04:22.:04:28.

men's C1. We were hoping to see David Florence compete for Great

:04:29.:04:31.

Britain, as you can see, he's standing next to me. David, it must

:04:32.:04:37.

be disappointing to end the defence 6 your World Championship gold in

:04:38.:04:41.

the semi-final? Definitely. Not a very good weekend for me. Sometimes

:04:42.:04:47.

that happens. If you sign up to compete at these things you might

:04:48.:04:50.

have a bad day. That's the way it's gone. I wasn't on a great run but a

:04:51.:04:56.

reasonable enough run. That middle section, it just felt like the wave

:04:57.:05:00.

hit me hard. I couldn't get he boat to turn. That was it. Gone. Once you

:05:01.:05:07.

go back for a gate it's over. Without wishing to dwell, the C2

:05:08.:05:12.

went wrong for you and Richard? C2. Hard to believe how it went so

:05:13.:05:18.

disastrously wrong. In all my years of competing I've never missed a

:05:19.:05:23.

semi-final in C1 or C2. To not get through to the semis was an abysmal

:05:24.:05:29.

performance. Deep Creek will not be high on your CV when you come to

:05:30.:05:36.

write it at the end of your career? The other C1 guys are pushing me.

:05:37.:05:42.

We've Tom Quinn in the final. Let's talk about Tom. What kind of pad

:05:43.:05:48.

letter is he? He's made good progress over the winter. Really

:05:49.:05:51.

secured his place in the team. Seems to have been training well on here.

:05:52.:05:56.

He had a bit of a rib injury. You see that with a lot of guys. I don't

:05:57.:06:02.

think it'll make a difference to his performance. Too could be there for

:06:03.:06:07.

the taking. You just don't know. In the C1 final some other big names

:06:08.:06:14.

missed out? Yeah. Martinkam being the most notable. Five time Olympic

:06:15.:06:20.

medallist. Not just me. Some interesting results in the C2. Even

:06:21.:06:26.

missing the semi-finals. Some interesting results. The it could go

:06:27.:06:33.

off. Thanks for stopping. You've not had the easiest week at all. Over

:06:34.:06:40.

then to the men's C1 final. Our commentators, Patrick Winterton and

:06:41.:06:55.

Helen reefs. Franz OntoN from Germany. I wonder if he'll take a

:06:56.:06:59.

different approach here in the final? Off to a quick start the temp

:07:00.:07:08.

owe seems different to this in the semi-final. The first upstream great

:07:09.:07:14.

5 in this course, tight in and away. He has to get that boat speed up and

:07:15.:07:18.

running. As he drops into this double up. The 8/9 section. Well

:07:19.:07:24.

executed. A drive across the stopper. Across that Eddie line.

:07:25.:07:29.

Good dip of the tail there. Back out into the flow. A nice start. For

:07:30.:07:40.

Franz Anton. A chance of meddling here. If he goes clean -- medaling.

:07:41.:07:47.

He's in the top three or four in boat #1350eed. A question of how

:07:48.:07:51.

many penalties he picks up. At the moment he as clear. Tight on gate

:07:52.:07:56.

14. Back into the flow. A critical section. Through 15. Reads it well.

:07:57.:08:03.

Good paddle work. Finding squeezed in 16. Putting in an emergency spin.

:08:04.:08:08.

But he did it well. Got back on track. Drove into 17. 18, this is

:08:09.:08:25.

where he dips his head. Given the judges cause for thought. They'll

:08:26.:08:30.

examine that to make sure the whole of the head was inside the gate.

:08:31.:08:35.

Through 20, 21, 22. Two more gates to go. Now it's all about the energy

:08:36.:08:40.

reserves. He will he a take the top time provided he doesn't get a 50

:08:41.:08:45.

second. It hasn't come up so far. A new time. Franz Anton takes the lead

:08:46.:08:52.

for Germany. Without a single penalty. 1: 10: 30. That will take

:08:53.:08:57.

some beating. He made that one mistake where he had to do the

:08:58.:09:01.

emergency spin at gate 16. Didn't really lose him any time. He's blade

:09:02.:09:06.

is on the right-hand side of the boat. His pro Dom napped blade. It

:09:07.:09:14.

is a tough ask to get the boat back across the 16 and back into 17.

:09:15.:09:19.

There are six upstream gates. The only British competitor in the

:09:20.:09:25.

final. Thomas quin who took the belong medal in the under-23 World

:09:26.:09:32.

Championships this year. This will be sensational if he medals here.

:09:33.:09:36.

We'll watch the split times as he works his way down. He's already

:09:37.:09:41.

done better than 15th last year in Prague. Guaranteed a top ten finish.

:09:42.:09:46.

Nice and tight but not so quick round that gate. We'll start to see

:09:47.:09:51.

himself set himself up to get the line. Drop the boat in with that

:09:52.:09:56.

crossbow, driving across the wave. He has to draw the boat right back

:09:57.:10:04.

into the nine. Well done. 37: 59. He's only half a second outside.

:10:05.:10:12.

Certainly is in with a shout of moving into top position. He has to

:10:13.:10:16.

find that half a second somewhere. Had to work hard on gate 12 to get

:10:17.:10:22.

the boat out into the flow. Tight on 14. This is where Anton was very

:10:23.:10:27.

good. A little slow getting in to the wave. Uses the fact he's a

:10:28.:10:34.

righty well to negotiate gates 15, 16. A little slower coming across to

:10:35.:10:44.

17 than we saw from the German Franz Anton. Half a second down last time.

:10:45.:10:51.

Not bad. Still outside but only.16 of a second. Caught a little in the

:10:52.:10:56.

stopper. A quarter of a second. A heavy hit then a big reverse stroke.

:10:57.:11:00.

We want to see the strokes on the front of the boat, on the bow,

:11:01.:11:05.

driving it forward. A sticky point here. Fractions of time going away

:11:06.:11:11.

from him. Just two gates to go. The leading time of the German 1.10.30.

:11:12.:11:19.

He will be outside Anton's time. 1.12.18. Good effort. Certainly

:11:20.:11:25.

having lost David Florence in the semi-finals, I think the British

:11:26.:11:30.

camp can breathe a sigh of relief. A respectable run from Thomas quin.

:11:31.:11:34.

Will it make the top five? We'll have to wait and see. Here we go.

:11:35.:11:48.

Bronze Medal last time round in Prague. He's smooth. Powerful.

:11:49.:11:55.

Usually manages to keep a nice flat boat. He won in it. . Really opens

:11:56.:12:09.

up his stroke. Long reach. Strong blades. Needs to draw it in around

:12:10.:12:14.

gate 8. Kept the momentum on the boat. Slightly lower than we've seen

:12:15.:12:18.

but caught the water coming back up through the Eddsy. .16 inside the

:12:19.:12:34.

split. That's belonging to Anton, the current leader. Now, a crucial

:12:35.:12:39.

part of the course, staying tight to that right-hand side. Nicely judged.

:12:40.:12:44.

Can he get back into the flow nice and quick? A bit quicker than we saw

:12:45.:12:51.

from Thomas quin but a different approach being a lefty. Taking on a

:12:52.:12:55.

spin. A nice direct line from 16 to 17. Very quick. Though slightly

:12:56.:13:01.

slower between 15 and 16. We'll see a variety of options in that

:13:02.:13:05.

section, the moment enif you can is carried through the stroke. 2.67

:13:06.:13:10.

seconds up now. Getting a bit stuck in 19. Losing some of that

:13:11.:13:19.

advantage. Four gates to go. First few are fairly straightforward.

:13:20.:13:24.

Round 22. Nice and quick. Back into the fast water. Powerful paddling as

:13:25.:13:30.

he works towards the finish. Just getting the back of the boat sucked

:13:31.:13:33.

in costing him a fraction of a second. 1.10.30. 1.68. Great run

:13:34.:13:41.

from the slow Ianian. He takes the lead. Anton leading. Back to the

:13:42.:14:03.

Germans. This is Jan #3w6789 Bezin. He runs a kayak school outside

:14:04.:14:09.

Leipzig. His wife a former pad letter. I guess that helps when

:14:10.:14:13.

you're as passionate about the sport as he is. A little sticky on the

:14:14.:14:20.

exit at gate 5. Needs to find his rhythm. Nice jump over the wave into

:14:21.:14:30.

8. Working hard on the cross. Wants to keep that boas dry as possible.

:14:31.:14:35.

Want to see the boat on top of the water dancing so there's no water on

:14:36.:14:39.

the deck. When we see water on the bow or front, it means the time will

:14:40.:14:50.

be getting slower and slower. Through Savage Falls. 54 seconds on

:14:51.:14:55.

the clock. Still outside that leading time. Quick and dynamic spin

:14:56.:15:06.

on 15. Needs to get the bow around to get as direct a line into 17.

:15:07.:15:11.

Nicely done. Right under the pole. Great work through 17. Back into the

:15:12.:15:16.

main flow. Always looking for the fastest bit of water. Drops down the

:15:17.:15:21.

tongue from 18. Tried to punch his way. Crafty little spin as he heads

:15:22.:15:43.

through 19. He needs to dig the Blades in deep. All that energy I

:15:44.:15:47.

all that burning through the arms as he pushes towards the final line.

:15:48.:15:57.

11.5. Goes into third position. So, Germany, their last challenger has

:15:58.:16:02.

gone. Now, I wonder how the crowd will get into this? It is fabben

:16:03.:16:13.

Lefevre. It will be a sensational result if he came to win this one.

:16:14.:16:17.

The fastest in the semi-finals. A beautiful smooth run. Wondering if

:16:18.:16:24.

he has anything more to give? Has he another gear to get up? He needs to

:16:25.:16:28.

repeat what he did. If he puts in the running time he did this

:16:29.:16:33.

morning, he will take the lead. Getting a bit stuck on gate 9. He

:16:34.:16:39.

needs to find his rhythm again. He's a very smooth pad letter. An

:16:40.:16:46.

innovator in style. In 2002 he was a man to follow. Will he be the man to

:16:47.:16:50.

follow again? I wonder how the French will feel if he comes through

:16:51.:16:55.

to take the title here. Down the drop. He looks to be fractionally

:16:56.:17:00.

outside. I'm not sure he has the quickest time at the moment. But 15,

:17:01.:17:06.

16, 17, a lot of time to be made as he switches blades. Over to the

:17:07.:17:11.

left-hand side for 17. Cuts it as fine as is possible. A really great

:17:12.:17:16.

turn. Back into the flow now. Watch the split time. It is still possible

:17:17.:17:22.

but he needs to be clean, a bit of magic through 18 and 1. A spin won't

:17:23.:17:27.

have cost him too much time. A win is still on. He has to stay strong

:17:28.:17:33.

for the final upstream. Tight in on gate 22. Two gates to go. All about

:17:34.:17:38.

finding the flow. Making sure he keeps that boat flowing through the

:17:39.:17:43.

last two downstream gates. Slightly messy through 24. . 1108.82. A

:17:44.:17:57.

Silver Medal for Lefevre. Half a second outside with six gates to go.

:17:58.:18:00.

The Americans will be delighted with that. They welcomed him into the

:18:01.:18:07.

team with open arms. He's rewarded them. We are getting interesting

:18:08.:18:13.

news through. As is the case with slalom kayaking, there are always

:18:14.:18:16.

video reviews after the race if someone feels a penalty is not

:18:17.:18:26.

right. Lvre put in a protest. It has been upheld. Instead of losing the

:18:27.:18:31.

gold medal by.2 of a second. He gets the gold medal by 1.8 seconds to

:18:32.:18:36.

become the only man to win a K1 world title and a C1 world titling.

:18:37.:18:48.

The results of men's C1, fabben Lefevre.

:18:49.:19:05.

A fantastic achievement to make the final. You made the most of that

:19:06.:19:11.

opportunity? Definitely. First senior final. Really happy to be in

:19:12.:19:15.

that. Clean run in the final as well. Your instant reaction when you

:19:16.:19:22.

crossed the line, you weren't punching the air at that point?

:19:23.:19:26.

Wasn't quite as quick as my semi-final run. I was a little

:19:27.:19:31.

disappointed with that. On a really tough course, it is just the clean

:19:32.:19:36.

run. It paid off. There were some rumours swirling about the injury to

:19:37.:19:42.

the rib. What happened there? Well, the last World Cup we had a

:19:43.:19:46.

collision in the team event. I came away with a cracked rib. And they

:19:47.:19:56.

hurt! Oh, yeah. Yeah, I didn't train really properly for the three weeks

:19:57.:19:59.

coming out here. It was very touch and go whether I would be allowed to

:20:00.:20:02.

race out here at all. To come away... Is the rib still giving you

:20:03.:20:10.

pain today? A little bit. But I let the adrenaline take care of it.

:20:11.:20:14.

Fantastic result, especially with the rib. Great to see it. Thank you.

:20:15.:20:21.

Now time for the women's C1 event. Featuring Jasmine Royle and mallry

:20:22.:20:28.

Franklin. Mallory is a world champion from 2013. But this season

:20:29.:20:33.

is not so straightforward. We caught up with her before the event began.

:20:34.:20:39.

Mallory Franklin comes through to take the first con aidsian singles

:20:40.:20:44.

of the season. Two World Cup golds this season. How do you sum up the

:20:45.:20:50.

competitions you've done? My performance has taken a step up.

:20:51.:20:54.

Consistency is lacking. I have my two golds. And my under-23 results.

:20:55.:21:03.

I've got that step better when I get all of my performance to the

:21:04.:21:07.

standard I will be happy. Injuries have been a big part of your season

:21:08.:21:12.

as well as successes? The main one is my back. I was very flexible as a

:21:13.:21:17.

kid now it is painful to lean back on my boat. The day I land I'm

:21:18.:21:25.

having an MRRI scan on my back to see if I've frack furred my spine.

:21:26.:21:30.

The physio as think I have. I can still paddle with the same ability.

:21:31.:21:36.

With a lot of acupuncture and very close to crying, my physio's been

:21:37.:21:42.

good at relaxing the muscle spasm down and allowing me to paddle to

:21:43.:21:47.

the standard I can. Everyone in the C1 looks at

:21:48.:21:53.

Australian's Jess Fox. Jess is a very strong athlete. Her technique

:21:54.:21:58.

is something I will always aim to emulate in some way. She was brought

:21:59.:22:03.

up in pretty much the perfect place. She has two parents who are

:22:04.:22:08.

ridiculously good canoeists and she has Penrith, a really good course.

:22:09.:22:12.

I'd love to be able to paddle to the standard she does consistently.

:22:13.:22:16.

That's the aim. And pass her but she's good at canoeing. The metal

:22:17.:22:22.

from the World Championships at Prague, do they feel a long time ago

:22:23.:22:26.

or is it still a source of inspiration? I was really delighted

:22:27.:22:32.

to get silver but the standard I wassed paddling at then is not how

:22:33.:22:39.

I'm paddling now. What would you say is your barometer for success here?

:22:40.:22:46.

I'd like to be medaling in C1. But I'd be pretty happeny with my racing

:22:47.:22:52.

if I can take from training and what I learn put into my racing. You

:22:53.:22:56.

should feel inspired, much more proud of someone if they've paddled

:22:57.:23:01.

back when they've messed up rather than having a hissy fit and sloth

:23:02.:23:06.

down the rest of the course. I want people to look up to as someone they

:23:07.:23:11.

want to be like in their attitude. Out of this race, as long as I can

:23:12.:23:16.

do my best, as long as I give my best, then I'll be pretty happy no

:23:17.:23:18.

matter what the result is. With started off with Jasmine Royle.

:23:19.:23:32.

Having thought she was out of the game, gets the callup for the final

:23:33.:23:37.

after the video analysis revealing that the Brazilian had missed a

:23:38.:23:42.

gate. A little unlucky for her. It was gate number 24. She will be

:23:43.:23:47.

furious with herself. Maybe a slight lack of concentration. There's a big

:23:48.:23:53.

clunk on gate 5 from Royle. Frustrating to take such a big hit

:23:54.:23:57.

early on in the course. But it gives you a chance to pull back that time

:23:58.:24:01.

you've lost with that penalty. A quick switch to get on her strong

:24:02.:24:07.

side between 8 and 9. Getting #4e8ed slightly. A drive across that water

:24:08.:24:18.

into the Eddie line. A product of Stone canoe and kayak club. A club,

:24:19.:24:22.

possibly the most successful club in the UK.

:24:23.:24:28.

possibly the most successful club in to their name. I'm sure a lot coming

:24:29.:24:31.

from Richard Fox. 37 national titles. They go

:24:32.:24:37.

from Richard Fox. 37 national some fantastic pad letters. As you

:24:38.:24:40.

mentioned earlier, Helen, a lot's to do with the waters surrounding them.

:24:41.:24:42.

Not necessarily their do with the waters surrounding them.

:24:43.:24:45.

ground but the access they have to the north and Wales. They have a lot

of access. They are very close to Home Peer

:24:51.:24:53.

of access. They are very close to have a good club structure. Coaches

:24:54.:25:00.

in place. People are very enthusiastic. They have a focus on

:25:01.:25:07.

canoe slalom. Only 42 penalties so far. She picked up penalties on 16,

:25:08.:25:15.

17, 18 and 20 in her semi-final. Only two so far. An improved time, I

:25:16.:25:22.

dare say. Through 18 are 19, another couple of seconds. Many pad letters

:25:23.:25:26.

have gone for a wide spin on that gate and thrown away more than two

:25:27.:25:30.

seconds. That might have been the quick option. She's on a composed

:25:31.:25:36.

run. A great improvement from the semi-final run on penalties. She

:25:37.:25:40.

needs to keep her head calm and cool as she negotiates the last two gates

:25:41.:25:44.

and gets a drive into that finish line. Quick switch, a little spin

:25:45.:25:49.

caught on the Eddie line. She's heading backs across. I think she

:25:50.:25:55.

thinks she's missed 23. Otherwise there would have been no call for

:25:56.:26:00.

that. Through 24. Now a fast finish. The clock ticking away. 1.57.77.

:26:01.:26:10.

Lays down the mark. Goes into top spot. Avoids the 50.

:26:11.:26:17.

Now, Mallory Franklin of Great Britain. It's a long course. They

:26:18.:26:22.

need to conserve as much energy as they can. Let the water doing the

:26:23.:26:26.

work rather than the water taking over the boat and making them work

:26:27.:26:32.

harder. Mallory has taken a spin at gate 3. She'll pull her line in at

:26:33.:26:38.

gate 8. Nicely there to get the drive across. Getting a little

:26:39.:26:41.

caught there. She pulls the boat round into 9. This is where they

:26:42.:26:46.

need to come out into the flow and let the boat settle on this boily

:26:47.:26:52.

changeable water. She's 1.85 outside. But it is the second half

:26:53.:26:56.

of the course where the previous pad letters have made all the mistakes.

:26:57.:27:01.

Still plenty of opportunity to get a lead in this race. Franklin, of

:27:02.:27:06.

course, the Silver Medallist in Prague last year. She'd love to go

:27:07.:27:11.

one better. Paddling with a bit of a knee injury having tried something

:27:12.:27:16.

called a human plank. Not sure what that is. She assured us she's OK. It

:27:17.:27:23.

doesn't affect her paddling. She'll check it out once back in the UK.

:27:24.:27:28.

Through 16. Can he she get quickly over 17? Uses the waves well. Good

:27:29.:27:34.

direct line keeping the boat moving at all times. You can see her

:27:35.:27:38.

digging deep through that slacker bit of water setting up for 18, 19.

:27:39.:27:44.

6.8 on the split up. There's plenty of time to be lost. Two second

:27:45.:27:53.

penalty as she took the spin. Still with an advantage. 157.77 is the

:27:54.:28:00.

leading time. Surely she needs to be around 135. There's another

:28:01.:28:08.

unnecessary penalty for Franklin. Another two seconds added which

:28:09.:28:10.

could make all the difference when it comes to the final placings.

:28:11.:28:15.

Driving for that final 10, 15 metres. 20 seconds inside but those

:28:16.:28:21.

six penalties could prove very, very expensive come the end of the day.

:28:22.:28:27.

Silver Medal last time remember. Here's someone who can certainly

:28:28.:28:31.

push it and pick the lines she wants. It is Hoskva from the Czech

:28:32.:28:42.

Republic. She took the last part of the course very easily. First big

:28:43.:28:48.

mistake. Drops very low on nine. She brings herself back up to that

:28:49.:28:52.

upstream gate. Through 10. Watch out for the slit. 50.71. .9 inside. Good

:28:53.:29:01.

start from Hoskva. Did You want to see her lift that bow over the Eddie

:29:02.:29:08.

line. Back into the flow through 13 before she heads down to the Savage

:29:09.:29:12.

Falls. We see her lining her boat up waiting to get that move as tight as

:29:13.:29:17.

she can through 14. Losing some height there. One, two, three

:29:18.:29:23.

strokes up. Now get on to the wave. Will she go for a spin and a quick

:29:24.:29:28.

switch. Catch the wave back across to 16. Crucially, Helen, no

:29:29.:29:33.

penalties so far. That will make the difference between herself and

:29:34.:29:37.

Franklin. She's dropped low on just about every upstream gate. Not the

:29:38.:29:42.

perfect run from Hoskva. Still may be enough to take the lead. She's

:29:43.:29:50.

dropped outside. 3.07 for Hoskva. This is where Franklin started to

:29:51.:29:54.

make mistakes. There's a two second penalty. Some relief for the Britain

:29:55.:30:00.

watching on. You can see the tiredness creeping in. She looks a

:30:01.:30:06.

little weary. Taking her time guiding the boat through 21.

:30:07.:30:09.

Flicking the nose around. Tight into 22. Very nicely done. 13 8.78 is the

:30:10.:30:16.

leading time. It could still be close. She was three seconds outside

:30:17.:30:21.

the fastest time after the last split. That leading time is gone.

:30:22.:30:25.

The best she can do is second place at the moment. Just squeezes in. Now

:30:26.:30:36.

for the last of the French competitors. Nicely through gate

:30:37.:30:46.

date. We want to see her drive nicely through into gate nine.

:30:47.:30:51.

Nicely executed. There is the first penalty on gate nine. Gate 17 was

:30:52.:30:55.

the one that gave her the problem in the semifinal run. Looking smooth

:30:56.:31:04.

though, keeping it running. A little spin at gate 12 but looking where

:31:05.:31:08.

she was going at all times to make sure she didn't pick up any

:31:09.:31:13.

unnecessary touches. Still the fastest time down the chute and she

:31:14.:31:17.

is pretty much in line with the best so far. Just catching the wave here

:31:18.:31:29.

and getting the driver cost the 16. We want to see as high a line as we

:31:30.:31:34.

can into 17. Slightly lower than she would have chosen to be. We will get

:31:35.:31:44.

another split, 98 .84, and she is just inside, .2 seconds inside.

:31:45.:31:50.

Malorie Franklin remember picking up six. There is another to second

:31:51.:31:56.

penalty. She needs to stay clean if she wants to challenge the leading

:31:57.:31:59.

time and move into that the gold medal position. One more upstream to

:32:00.:32:04.

go, tries to cut its tight and then changes her mind because she was

:32:05.:32:07.

just a little bit too tight. Back into the flow now, one minute 3878

:32:08.:32:16.

is the time dash 1.38.78 is the time. It will be desperately close.

:32:17.:32:25.

The position is changing all the way down the course and once again,

:32:26.:32:28.

fatigue making the difference over those last four gates. Really trying

:32:29.:32:33.

to drive the boat down, trying to keep the boat on track, but at the

:32:34.:32:37.

same time the nose is getting caught by the eddies. Tough on the last few

:32:38.:32:43.

gates and the face of Malorie there, there it goes, another one in behind

:32:44.:32:49.

me. Deep breaths. Two to go. I wonder whether she thought she would

:32:50.:32:53.

be in this position. It does mean that Malorie Franklin is guaranteed

:32:54.:32:57.

a medal here in deep Creek because with only Jessica Fox to go, she can

:32:58.:33:09.

finish no worse than third. This is one of the paddlers who can

:33:10.:33:13.

certainly cope with a course of this quality, this sort of technical

:33:14.:33:20.

difficulty. Frantic strokes there through gate nine, making sure she

:33:21.:33:25.

keeps her boat on track. She knows that she hasn't got time to play

:33:26.:33:30.

with. But on the split, 2.81 seconds up. We said she had class and style,

:33:31.:33:36.

and when she is on her day she can win by seconds. So, what can she do?

:33:37.:33:41.

She has done it all in the past of course, there are not many people

:33:42.:33:47.

who have both parents who are world champions, multiple world champions.

:33:48.:33:50.

Richard Fox will no doubt be watching on proudly. The switch

:33:51.:33:56.

needs to be quick and it's a lot quicker than we saw from Rebours.

:33:57.:34:03.

Gets herself online for 16 and 17. So many have dropped low on 17. She

:34:04.:34:08.

is having to work desperately hard to get back through 17 and that

:34:09.:34:11.

could be crucial but the lead was fairly substantial going through the

:34:12.:34:16.

halfway stage. Watch are going down through the sweet spot. 18... 19...

:34:17.:34:22.

Will she take a hit like so many? Yes. That is the second. Four

:34:23.:34:29.

seconds added to the time. Is it going to survive? We will find out

:34:30.:34:38.

very, very shortly. 18, 19, coming around the last of the streams. She

:34:39.:34:43.

wants to find that last wave, that push across to gate 24 and this is

:34:44.:34:48.

the final drive. Great boat speed coming through 24, accelerates onto

:34:49.:34:52.

the last drop and takes a comfortable lead in the end Jessica

:34:53.:34:56.

Fox, into the gold medal position with just one paddle remaining. An

:34:57.:35:02.

excellent run, not faultless but a nice combination of caution and

:35:03.:35:07.

aggression. She looked smooth, took an early touch on gate three and

:35:08.:35:10.

then one later on but she was in control. Not an ideal one, getting

:35:11.:35:14.

stuck backwards, but she has got class, she has got style, she knows

:35:15.:35:18.

the lines and when she gets the right she is that much quicker.

:35:19.:35:26.

Franklin pushed down now into these all the medal position. Vilarrubla

:35:27.:35:37.

is the only person who can decide her position now. She picked up for

:35:38.:35:40.

seconds on her semifinal run. The first of those came at gate 11. Gate

:35:41.:35:47.

nine has produced a lot of problems and she is way down but it is a fast

:35:48.:35:54.

Eddy. Good recovery. Now it is all about maintaining the rhythm.

:35:55.:35:57.

Catching her edge, upside down, she has to get back across the river

:35:58.:36:03.

now. Gate 11, she is 4.8 down on the split. She needs to gain her

:36:04.:36:09.

composure. 4.88 is still silver medal position if she can hold that

:36:10.:36:13.

margin, but Jessica Fox was supreme on the bottom half of the course.

:36:14.:36:17.

Perhaps the only one who has stayed strong all the way through. Some

:36:18.:36:21.

five, six, seven seconds down on the best time down the drop. It's not

:36:22.:36:25.

looking too good for the Spanish at the moment. From Vilarrubla, who was

:36:26.:36:32.

so good on her home river, finishing second in the World Cup there.

:36:33.:36:36.

Jessica Fox the winner on that occasion. A second capsize and it is

:36:37.:36:42.

game over, it is game over for Vilarrubla and Jessica Fox can start

:36:43.:36:46.

the celebrations, she is the sea OneWorld champion for 2014 and I

:36:47.:36:52.

think know he would take that away from her. If she hasn't won it is

:36:53.:36:58.

because she has just missed the gate and missed it by millimetres. She is

:36:59.:37:04.

a fantastic paddler. She is dominating the class, taking it out

:37:05.:37:06.

from the beginning and she just seems to get better and better each

:37:07.:37:08.

season. This is a tough as can now with two

:37:09.:37:20.

roles, to capsizes, a number of penalties, it's all about getting

:37:21.:37:24.

yourself down the rest of this course. She must be exhausted.

:37:25.:37:36.

Anything under 166 will keep her off 10th position. Oh, how frustrating,

:37:37.:37:49.

how frustrating. I thought she was in tears for a moment but that is a

:37:50.:37:54.

brave smile from Vilarrubla who produced the fastest semifinal time

:37:55.:37:57.

which can only boost your confidence. But maybe the pressure

:37:58.:38:01.

and nerves at the top getting the better of her. To capsizes. The last

:38:02.:38:06.

time that happened, I'm not sure it ever will to her at this level of

:38:07.:38:09.

competition. Extraordinary things. There is your winner. The world

:38:10.:38:13.

champion, Jessica Fox, the realisation that she is the champion

:38:14.:38:20.

for 2014. So, Jessica Fox retains her world title with an impressive

:38:21.:38:26.

run, four penalties but still five... Six seconds quicker than

:38:27.:38:31.

anybody else. It's a big percentage. Franklin, Silver again here. A

:38:32.:38:35.

silver last year and another one to go with it, very good consistency?

:38:36.:38:40.

Yes, and with Jazz ahead of me it's pretty consistent within the class.

:38:41.:38:44.

It was a good run and I'm happy with it. You seem to have some difficulty

:38:45.:38:47.

at the top and then got quicker and quicker as it went down the run.

:38:48.:38:53.

Yes, I wasn't great at gate three but after that it got better and

:38:54.:38:58.

quicker, through what they are calling savage falls, 15 and 16 was

:38:59.:39:03.

probably my strongest area. That then brought me to doing well. And a

:39:04.:39:09.

very long, nervous wait, seeing other competitors come down. That is

:39:10.:39:14.

never easy? Definitely not fun, especially being down on the top

:39:15.:39:17.

split because I didn't do well at the top but knowing I had that area

:39:18.:39:21.

in the middle where I could pick up time, it was so no bragging. Jess is

:39:22.:39:26.

a good friend as well as a competitor, does that make it more

:39:27.:39:31.

complicated? In some respects at the moment I sort of expected. She is

:39:32.:39:35.

very quick in both kayak and this class. She is a good friend and we

:39:36.:39:39.

get on quite well but it is something I expect. It is not so

:39:40.:39:44.

much of a hit. Next year championships on how water, will it

:39:45.:39:48.

be different? Hopefully, I hope for it be different. I am going

:39:49.:39:51.

part-time on my uni course and so I can spend even more time training.

:39:52.:39:54.

Hopefully next year I can come back with a slightly higher medal.

:39:55.:40:00.

Jessica, how was your final run? It was a really good run and then I

:40:01.:40:04.

just messed up at the last minute and had the power back for the

:40:05.:40:08.

second to last gate. I'm really pleased with my paddling today.

:40:09.:40:12.

First senior worlds, finishing seventh, that's not too shabby. I'm

:40:13.:40:19.

very pleased with that. Studio Mac she is really making her mark on

:40:20.:40:22.

this category, getting medals more often than not. It will be very

:40:23.:40:26.

interesting to see how it all developed so the next few years. If

:40:27.:40:31.

you have been inspired by Mallory's medal performance to try your hand

:40:32.:40:35.

at canoeing you can go to the get inspired website at the address

:40:36.:40:41.

below. Now, it is time for the men's event. I will hand you back to your

:40:42.:40:50.

commentators, Alan and Patrick. -- Helen.

:40:51.:40:56.

COMMENTATOR: We now move onto K-1. He is back in action. To complete

:40:57.:41:07.

into disciplines. --, Pete the knows exactly where to make the

:41:08.:41:19.

turns. Ellen, what about switching from kneeling to sitting? The kayak

:41:20.:41:27.

has discipline, this discipline is so different. Remember he has done

:41:28.:41:31.

two more runs than anybody else in this final today so it will be very

:41:32.:41:36.

interesting to see how much this fatigue takes on for him. Well, the

:41:37.:41:43.

early runners in both finals so far have done pretty well. Brooklyn was

:41:44.:41:56.

third down in the although the best effectively go last, at this level

:41:57.:42:00.

of competition, anyone in the final can win it. Finding himself off the

:42:01.:42:08.

line so, Lefevre. Taking that penalty at gate 16 and going wide as

:42:09.:42:12.

he drove into 17. That will be costly to him. He has two nails this

:42:13.:42:17.

move. Kvitova heavy hits there through 19. Pushes it on hard,

:42:18.:42:26.

setting it up for 20. -- a bit of a heavy hit there. Going into gate 16.

:42:27.:42:30.

Sorry, not 16. We better not count our chickens, there could be a

:42:31.:42:38.

protest going in. But I think that is unlikely. It is not going to be a

:42:39.:42:48.

famous double. He says where? We will find out, I think it is gate

:42:49.:42:54.

19, which is the offset gate. It's interesting, I think he will put a

:42:55.:42:58.

protest and for that but they will say the poll went across the back of

:42:59.:43:02.

his head so he didn't get the whole of his head in the gate. Next ago,

:43:03.:43:08.

missing the first three World Cups, the French sharing their allocations

:43:09.:43:13.

at the World Cup this year to give as many of their paddlers as

:43:14.:43:19.

experience -- of their paddlers and experience. He flies into five,

:43:20.:43:27.

flies out of five. This is an impressive start. What will be

:43:28.:43:32.

initial split be like? We will find out very shortly. No mistakes so far

:43:33.:43:37.

as far as I can see. Now, very dynamic paddler, very tight in and

:43:38.:43:42.

around gate nine. Finding his rhythm here. He needs to open up. He is

:43:43.:43:47.

2.38 ab on the split. He needs to get in and out of date 12 as quickly

:43:48.:43:51.

as possible. Dynamic turn there, right around the polls. Shortest

:43:52.:43:56.

line possible, really good shoulder drop on 12 and 13. Now 1456 was the

:43:57.:44:01.

time. He is ball seconds inside, building all the time, but he can

:44:02.:44:06.

throw it away with one mistake. Negotiates 15 well, across the 16,

:44:07.:44:10.

does he get a kick across to 17? It will help. Not bad, not the quickest

:44:11.:44:15.

but not bad. Now needs to get back into the flow quickly. 17 gate is

:44:16.:44:20.

negotiated. 24 in all. These next two could be the decider, as to

:44:21.:44:26.

whether he takes medals. Brilliant, absolutely superb air. Drops down

:44:27.:44:30.

into the sweet spot and takes it dairy sweet indeed. Now under threat

:44:31.:44:39.

as he goes around 22. He could still be on target for the leading time.

:44:40.:44:45.

Remember, last gate gone, onto the driver home. It will be close but

:44:46.:44:50.

and he is 1.89 seconds inside had he not had that penalty I think that

:44:51.:44:54.

Sebastien Combot could well have been in the gold medal position. He

:44:55.:44:59.

will have to wait and see, but what a run. He attacked it from gate

:45:00.:45:02.

number one and stayed strong right the way through. A brilliant

:45:03.:45:07.

performance from the French and they have another paddler still to go.

:45:08.:45:13.

Superb run, fast-paced, dynamic, keeping his boat rhythm all the

:45:14.:45:16.

time. This is the only bit I think where he lost a fraction of time,

:45:17.:45:20.

didn't get the water quite, very changeable around 16 and 17 and you

:45:21.:45:24.

have to do the best with what you have in front of you. He did a very

:45:25.:45:25.

good job of that. Biazzizot, not a busy season for him

:45:26.:45:44.

but he has come good at the right time. There is his first mistake at

:45:45.:45:49.

number five. Just send his nose up a bit too high that seemed to be back

:45:50.:45:52.

on track now, tight around gate number eight, nicely done, getting

:45:53.:45:56.

the drive across, he needs to push across that Eddie line, finding

:45:57.:45:59.

himself above it to hide. That is not what he wants to be doing. A

:46:00.:46:04.

slow move. Quick thinking though, quick thinking to correct. Every

:46:05.:46:11.

makes mistakes in this game. Absolutely. He hasn't got any

:46:12.:46:14.

penalties as of yet. There is no man yet to go down this course clean. He

:46:15.:46:19.

can still be in touch. 52 is the time going through. He is now three

:46:20.:46:25.

seconds adrift of the fastest time, Combot. The current leader picked up

:46:26.:46:31.

to later on in so the opportunity is still there but it needs to be

:46:32.:46:34.

perfect, from 17 all the way through to 24 and there is the first really

:46:35.:46:40.

good turn. Turn. Superb. Really tight in there, little bit high. He

:46:41.:46:45.

is going to set up this line to be dynamic and fast, quick through 19,

:46:46.:46:48.

dipped his head through it and then gets a straight line out. The combo

:46:49.:46:54.

was superb to that section -- Combot was superb to that section. Three

:46:55.:47:00.

Frenchmen qualifying for this final. Superb performance from them.

:47:01.:47:08.

Now, down through 23, 24, it is going to be close again, but just

:47:09.:47:16.

outside. .85 of a second. Wow, there is no doubt that Combot would have

:47:17.:47:19.

been watching with one night only I think with that performance. The

:47:20.:47:22.

mood has changed at the top of the course and instead of everyone

:47:23.:47:26.

having the course dominates their performance, they are starting to

:47:27.:47:30.

attack it and dominate the water. That is just what we needed to see.

:47:31.:47:44.

Boris took a silver back in 2009. He got a silver in the World

:47:45.:47:50.

Championship that year as well. He has shown some good form early in

:47:51.:47:54.

the season on a very different river in SF. 60 cubic metres per second

:47:55.:47:59.

piling down this deep Creek. -- in this is some three cubic metres

:48:00.:48:09.

bigger than the Lee Valley course. Yes, big, wide, lots of flow down it

:48:10.:48:15.

and very changeable water. He is 1.36 up. He is looking smooth, maybe

:48:16.:48:19.

his temper doesn't look quite as high but that's the thing. All

:48:20.:48:24.

paddlers have their own unique style and he has his own style. I would

:48:25.:48:28.

say now he has given away at least upper second there. Pity to was the

:48:29.:48:34.

unofficial split. He is about half a second down, so I think you are spot

:48:35.:48:39.

on, as he works through 15 and 16. This is such a crucial day. Not so

:48:40.:48:44.

many penalties picked up but the difference in time taken from 16 to

:48:45.:48:48.

17 absolutely huge. That is good work from Horace, trying to get to

:48:49.:48:52.

Frenchmen onto the podium. In fact it would be one, trying to get to

:48:53.:48:55.

Frenchmen onto the podium. In fact it would be one, two, three if he

:48:56.:48:58.

could go up to the front. The way things are going it could well

:48:59.:49:01.

happen. Cleanly through 18 and 19, not the quickest but it is clean and

:49:02.:49:04.

he hasn't lost too much time. For gate to go now to join his

:49:05.:49:07.

team-mates at the top of the podium. Will the French get a clean sweep

:49:08.:49:13.

here as deep Creek? He has the pickers like Catalina, just driving

:49:14.:49:16.

those blades all the way to the finish line down here. He's inside,

:49:17.:49:25.

he is inside. It looked very controlled at the top of the

:49:26.:49:29.

course, not as attacking as we saw from Combot but Boris Neveu has

:49:30.:49:36.

taken the lead. And there we have it. France, one, two, three. That

:49:37.:49:44.

winning time, he will lie in bed tonight ruing that penalty that has

:49:45.:49:53.

cost him the gold. They will be thrilled by have managed the clean

:49:54.:49:56.

sweep. Now it is time for the women's K-1. She will go off first,

:49:57.:50:03.

but before we see her run, we caught up with the other British paddler in

:50:04.:50:12.

this final, Fiona Penney. Following you on Twitter this summer, there

:50:13.:50:15.

have been some ups and downs. The results have been brilliant, have

:50:16.:50:19.

they? Killer Mac sure, that was definitely one of my comments this

:50:20.:50:22.

summer. Another race, another disappointment. The Europeans were

:50:23.:50:28.

OK. I did well in the early stages and then won the finals and the

:50:29.:50:34.

semifinals. I hit a gate two seconds out, I ended up fifth, and then the

:50:35.:50:41.

following World Cup tear at Lee Valley, unfortunately I made a few

:50:42.:50:44.

too many errors and found myself not in the final. Has that been

:50:45.:50:49.

frustrating and tough to keep your morale? It has been frustrating. I

:50:50.:50:53.

have made so many games this year technically on the water and I know

:50:54.:50:57.

I am technically fast enough. It is just putting it together on the

:50:58.:51:02.

name, being clean and fast. How much do you guys learn off each other and

:51:03.:51:05.

interact with each other and coach each other? We train with different

:51:06.:51:12.

training groups and obviously our various coaches. I train with Tom

:51:13.:51:15.

Brady and Joe Clark and that's great for me because I am trying with two

:51:16.:51:20.

wonderful men. They are deemed to be the blue-ribbon event and they are

:51:21.:51:23.

the fastest on the water so for me to be able to learn from them

:51:24.:51:25.

technically are just perfect for my training and I'm always pushing

:51:26.:51:30.

myself to get as close to them as possible timewise. If I spoke to

:51:31.:51:35.

your coach what would he say your attributes? If you'd spoke anybody

:51:36.:51:39.

in canoe slalom they would probably say I was one of the strongest in

:51:40.:51:43.

the world. With that comes the speed. Technically over the last few

:51:44.:51:49.

years I've made significant gains. I probably wasn't so good before but

:51:50.:51:52.

with better watch what technique I'm becoming more consistent. What do

:51:53.:51:59.

you expect from the World Championship is? Killer Mac we have

:52:00.:52:03.

trained there in July for two weeks already. I've learned a lot from the

:52:04.:52:07.

white water there. It is different to most courses. Certainly you need

:52:08.:52:10.

to paste the course well when you are going on a full rundown of

:52:11.:52:13.

course, the bottom is quite hard work on the arms and my plan will be

:52:14.:52:17.

to keep it clean, make sure I go around the polls, don't hit them and

:52:18.:52:21.

go fast with that. That sounds like quite a simple plan. It sounds

:52:22.:52:26.

simple but let's hope it won't be simple on the day.

:52:27.:52:35.

So, Beth and Latham will be the first down. She is 33 in the World

:52:36.:52:47.

Cup rankings this year. She has the opportunity to do the same here. --

:52:48.:52:51.

Bethan Latham. The fact she is going first shouldn't dissuade you from

:52:52.:52:55.

the fact that she has a chance of taking a medal. I wonder how she

:52:56.:52:57.

will take the course. Not the best of starts. Hasn't quite found her

:52:58.:53:03.

with yet. Between two and three. But there is plenty of time to get back

:53:04.:53:07.

into this run. A number of difficult sections. First one coming up in a

:53:08.:53:10.

minute, over eight and nine although she has just picked up a penalty

:53:11.:53:14.

point already, clipping it on the exit and now she needs to free

:53:15.:53:17.

focus, make sure she stays clear and out on these polls and keep the line

:53:18.:53:22.

as direct as possible. To successive up streams at a penalty point

:53:23.:53:24.

already, clipping it on the exit and now she needs to free focus, make

:53:25.:53:27.

sure she stays clear and out on these polls and keep the line as

:53:28.:53:30.

direct as possible. To successive up streams at eight and nine have

:53:31.:53:32.

caused problems. Just getting inside that. The judges will have a close

:53:33.:53:35.

look at that and Bethan Latham, what do you feel? A penalty, I saw the

:53:36.:53:38.

judge's can go up. That is it, game over really. Once you have a 52nd

:53:39.:53:41.

penalty added to your time there is really no coming back from that.

:53:42.:53:45.

They may put out a protest but it definitely looked very questionable.

:53:46.:53:49.

There is the pool above the savage falls. You have to have the right

:53:50.:53:53.

lines are there. Nicely onto 14, which is where she got a penalty in

:53:54.:53:58.

the semifinal. And now, that spin, back through 15. This is the

:53:59.:54:04.

difficult combination. Lots of penalties, lots of time lost in all

:54:05.:54:09.

disciplines here. A bit of a loopy line into 17, we saw the bowel

:54:10.:54:13.

heading a lot of the time across the river. That's what we want to see,

:54:14.:54:18.

taking buried lines from one day to another. 18 and 19 have proven to be

:54:19.:54:24.

very tricky for people and she is now finding it difficult to go

:54:25.:54:26.

around the bottom of the poll. Didn't quite make it around the top.

:54:27.:54:31.

That is an interesting... You could see the mind working almost there

:54:32.:54:34.

when she realised there was no way she would be able to go back up into

:54:35.:54:37.

the stopper and then get back through the normal way. But she

:54:38.:54:42.

sought well on her feet and away we go. Last two gates to go, it will

:54:43.:54:49.

not be a medal winning run from Bethan Latham but it shows you the

:54:50.:54:52.

problem is that the athletes have out there. And it is no different

:54:53.:54:59.

for anyone else still to come. 179.88, disappointing but she will

:55:00.:55:02.

be delighted she made it through to the last ten. Yes, that's fantastic,

:55:03.:55:07.

to make her first world champion Jim final. She did make her final, but

:55:08.:55:14.

that is where she met at penalty. You have to make sure your whole

:55:15.:55:17.

head, your whole body is inside the polls and on that occasion it looked

:55:18.:55:25.

like heads did make it. Next down, little bit inconsistent this year,

:55:26.:55:28.

got a really good run and finished in fifth place and then eighth in

:55:29.:55:34.

the World Cup finals. That gave her a confidence boost. Looked a little

:55:35.:55:41.

bit slow on the exit of five but she has hit the right line that she

:55:42.:55:45.

wanted, a good line into eight. You can see that bit of flow in the

:55:46.:55:51.

Eddie line, a bit above number nine. This is very oily, they have to be

:55:52.:55:55.

patient to see what happens with the vote, let the boat release and then

:55:56.:55:59.

they can drive forward -- boiling water. Onto the savage falls for 14,

:56:00.:56:14.

which is OK. Then it is this tricky surf across the ways to reach 15. An

:56:15.:56:22.

early spin. Just waiting a bit better make sure she could get the

:56:23.:56:25.

release from the tail before she put the power in to get back across 16

:56:26.:56:29.

and now dropping a little bit low as we see her draw the boat in with the

:56:30.:56:33.

bow rudder. This is the tricky bit. They come out into the flow and this

:56:34.:56:37.

is where they set up that difficult 18-19. 19 is a split gate and it's

:56:38.:56:41.

very tight on the back of the stopper. Picking her line, little

:56:42.:56:45.

reverse stroke there, nicely done by Melanie. Very good there, but that

:56:46.:56:53.

has all paid off. Only four of the women in the final went clear in the

:56:54.:56:57.

semifinals. She spins around, 22, now she is back into the flow and

:56:58.:57:01.

there is still time to be gained if you can get the perfect wine and 24.

:57:02.:57:07.

As to put the brakes. I will cost her fractions of a second that could

:57:08.:57:10.

make all the difference come the end of the day. The new lead time

:57:11.:57:19.

120.01. Alongside -- a long way inside Latham's time. Good solid

:57:20.:57:25.

performance for the German. Yes, put in a good tight time for people to

:57:26.:57:34.

beat. Well, Fiona Pennie now. Will she be able to add to her medal

:57:35.:57:39.

haul? The silver medallist from 2006, 31 years old from Crieff. She

:57:40.:57:43.

will have done her early days of paddling on Scottish rivers, the

:57:44.:57:48.

take, the Alan, the Lenny and indeed the lion not far from where she used

:57:49.:57:55.

to live. A good start from Pennie here. Around gate eight, not giving

:57:56.:58:00.

anything, just pulling herself in. Tight around Gates nine. She was

:58:01.:58:04.

very quick on the top section in her first run. -- around 89. 4.2 up on

:58:05.:58:09.

the split so it is looking good again. -- around gate nine. Lost

:58:10.:58:20.

some time on her semi final run. This is her coming down to savage

:58:21.:58:25.

falls, what a nice line, steering it in. Looking for the surf, she will

:58:26.:58:31.

start spotting the spin. And a lovely spin. Looking very controlled

:58:32.:58:40.

at the moment. Just dropping a little low maybe. A little slow to

:58:41.:58:44.

17 but the water seems to have changed completely from the previous

:58:45.:58:48.

two runs. Now, this is where she has to get it right, goes wide into 18,

:58:49.:58:52.

needs to make sure she gets far enough across and she is through.

:58:53.:58:58.

Great, great negotiation there. Now onto 20 through the 24. Still

:58:59.:59:02.

mistakes can be made. Watch the Tyne as she goes to the final upstream.

:59:03.:59:09.

This is looking good, Helen. Yes, five seconds up on that previous

:59:10.:59:12.

split and she hasn't given away any time yet. Looking for the nice sweet

:59:13.:59:17.

spot between 23 and 24. Just this final push to the line. That is the

:59:18.:59:21.

fastest time in the semifinals and she is well inside out! 114.97 and

:59:22.:59:28.

crucially no penalties. She goes into the lead and sets a really,

:59:29.:59:32.

really tough test for those still to come. Yes, fantastic display of

:59:33.:59:37.

slalom canoeing there. You can see her coming down to the river to give

:59:38.:59:41.

her a congratulatory handshake. She will be absolutely delighted with

:59:42.:59:44.

that. She didn't give away anything. If you think about first runs, 1.18

:59:45.:59:51.

.34 that was the quickest. She has set a time to the rest of the

:59:52.:59:54.

competitors to have to really fight to come and get.

:59:55.:59:59.

Fantastic news for the British team. They need a bit. Ricard Funk. A

:00:00.:00:12.

little wide into 5. She accelerates the boat beautifully through the

:00:13.:00:17.

water. Down towards 7 and 8 on the left-hand side. Second of the

:00:18.:00:22.

upstream gates. Sweet around gate 8. A quick push in. She's finding

:00:23.:00:26.

herself being dragged in a bit tight. Tail getting caught in the

:00:27.:00:32.

flow. Losing a fraction of time. Let the boat settle. Then drive down.

:00:33.:00:41.

3.46 outside Fiona Pennie's time. Clipped the pole. Two seconds added.

:00:42.:00:51.

Now four seconds of penalties. Fiona Pennie on 60 seconds on gate 14.

:00:52.:00:57.

That 3.5 second margin's grown substantially. Ricard unlikely to

:00:58.:01:06.

record the best run of her season. Losing more time at 15. Slipping off

:01:07.:01:11.

a little bit there. Tight into 17. She has got far too much work to do

:01:12.:01:17.

to be challenging that time of Fiona Pennie's. Set up above 19. Little

:01:18.:01:27.

flick on the back. Touched 19. Top pole. There's no way Ricard Funk

:01:28.:01:55.

will threaten now. Nelani fiver second. Six seconds of penalties.

:01:56.:02:00.

Even with a clear run she would have been a long way adrift of Pennie. I

:02:01.:02:06.

hope that's an indication of how good Pennie's run was. She did take

:02:07.:02:14.

the medal in 1996 6. Eight years later, she could be on the verge of

:02:15.:02:22.

something very special. Hilgertova, been around forever. She was here 25

:02:23.:02:27.

years ago when the World Championships were last held in the

:02:28.:02:32.

US. Racing on the Savage River just down the road from here. We're

:02:33.:02:41.

already finding her 2.47 down. As she's got older whether she has that

:02:42.:02:47.

same power and endurance as some of the younger athletes have towards

:02:48.:02:51.

the bottom of the course. This is an extremely long course. Hilgertova is

:02:52.:02:58.

at least three seconds down at the moment. She's a wonderful paddler.

:02:59.:03:03.

Brilliantly technical. But a lot of work to do. Getting a bit delayed

:03:04.:03:07.

through 15. Struggling to get the line right for 16. That doesn't bode

:03:08.:03:13.

well for 17. Nice into 17 though. It is all about the drive. 18, 19, very

:03:14.:03:19.

tricky gates. We want to see her set up high above 18. You can see the

:03:20.:03:24.

wind still blowing after that storm. They need to be very precise where

:03:25.:03:30.

they're going. Nice little move to get around the bottom pole at 19.

:03:31.:03:35.

She may be in for a medal post I can. Fox still the really big name

:03:36.:03:44.

left to run on this course. Hilgertova gets high. Another

:03:45.:03:47.

mistake getting held by the stopper just a fraction. She can ill afford

:03:48.:03:53.

that but no penalties incurred. That could be key to the success. She's

:03:54.:03:59.

trying to take medals at 47 years of age. She goes into the Bronze Medal

:04:00.:04:03.

position. She's frustrated with that. She's given the remaining

:04:04.:04:09.

paddlers a opportunity to take that away from her. There's Fiona

:04:10.:04:13.

sitting, waiting. If the next paddler doesn't beat her time she

:04:14.:04:23.

knows she will be on the podium. Jasmine Schornberg. Didn't pick up

:04:24.:04:28.

any penalties at all. Bronze Medal in Prague last year. She's been here

:04:29.:04:33.

before. That could be useful. A smooth start from her. Need to get

:04:34.:04:39.

out and let the boat balance as she comes through 10. Lost time on

:04:40.:04:48.

Pennie already. Pretty much identical time to Hilgertova at that

:04:49.:04:52.

stage. Just tweaked the boat back into the flow through 13. Now coming

:04:53.:04:58.

to Savage Falls. Needs a nice height and get that suffer across. Slightly

:04:59.:05:02.

lower than she would have hoped. She has to start spotting for the spin.

:05:03.:05:10.

Look where the poles are. Nice spin there from Schornberg. We'll get

:05:11.:05:15.

another split between 17 and 18, before she drops through gate 18.

:05:16.:05:21.

87.70 is the time. More than four seconds outside the field with the

:05:22.:05:25.

delay on that last sequence of gates. Across to 18, needs to get

:05:26.:05:32.

wide. Tries to get across the face of the tongue to get to 19. Valuable

:05:33.:05:38.

seconds ticking a way. She will not take top spot. She will be pressed

:05:39.:05:44.

to make the medals at all. Losing precious time at 19 she couldn't

:05:45.:05:51.

afford. She'll have to nail 22 where we saw Hilgertova lose quite a bit

:05:52.:05:55.

of time. There's a little sweet spot, need to find the drive off the

:05:56.:06:03.

back of the wave and get that push. 124.77 is Hilgertova's time. She's

:06:04.:06:09.

missed that. Outside the top three having finished third in the

:06:10.:06:13.

semi-finals. Frustration, all the emotions coming out. Fiona Pennie is

:06:14.:06:18.

still on top. Jessica fox of Australia. Her mother winning here

:06:19.:06:26.

25 years ago. That would be a nice story. Going last is never nice. But

:06:27.:06:29.

at this level, World Championships, a little bit of history if she can

:06:30.:06:33.

make it in the C1 and K1. She's not letting the pressure affect her.

:06:34.:06:42.

Nice move through the first four gates. Gate 5, she isn't giving away

:06:43.:06:48.

anything at the moment. She needs to get this in and drive around gate 9.

:06:49.:06:54.

Watch the first split coming after 40 seconds. 43.8 was Pennie's time.

:06:55.:07:03.

Fox, 100th of a second outside. She cannot afford a mistake. 60 seconds

:07:04.:07:07.

was Pennie's time remember, through 14. Coming up next. Tight in on 14.

:07:08.:07:16.

Is she going to do it? I think she's spot on. Maybe even a fraction up on

:07:17.:07:21.

Pennie's time. Can't afford to give away any penalties are time. A good

:07:22.:07:27.

spin. Tail down, bow round. Directly driving into 17. This will be tight

:07:28.:07:33.

on Pennie's split. The next split will tell you everything you need 20

:07:34.:07:40.

know. Altogether 82.17. She is a second inside. The C1 world champion

:07:41.:07:46.

is looking to makes it the K1 title as well. 22, remember, is a tricky

:07:47.:07:53.

gate. We saw Hilgertova get caught out with it. Pennie may still be the

:07:54.:07:59.

world champion. Jessica Fox still looking very strong. The time she's

:08:00.:08:06.

after, 114.97. She's inside. She was a second up at 19. She's made it.

:08:07.:08:14.

She has done the double. Jessica Fox of Australia.96 of a second inside.

:08:15.:08:18.

Fiona Pennie, she would have taken silver at the start of the day which

:08:19.:08:23.

is what she did in 2006. But how disappointing to have the last

:08:24.:08:28.

paddler deny you that gold medal. Jess Fox, what a fantastic race.

:08:29.:08:32.

Gold in the C1. Gold in the K1. No-one's done that at the same World

:08:33.:08:36.

Championships. She is in a class of her own. I thought Pennie'sp time

:08:37.:08:41.

was #4r78s unbeatable. She's gone down and nailed it. Took it on.

:08:42.:08:45.

Didn't give away anything. Fought for it all the way down. She knew

:08:46.:08:50.

exactly where she wanted to be. Couldn't put a paddle stroke wrong.

:08:51.:08:56.

Jessica Fox of Australia winning the gold medal ahead of Fiona Pennie

:08:57.:09:02.

from Great Britain. You went very early. Best run of the

:09:03.:09:11.

week comfortably? For sure. I was pretty smooth all the way down. I

:09:12.:09:15.

knew on such a hard course I had to keep it steady and smooth. Keep the

:09:16.:09:19.

boat in the right place. I was just like keep it on line. Came through

:09:20.:09:23.

the finish ecstatic with that. The way they set up the final course,

:09:24.:09:27.

there were really tested gates out there. As each went by, you were

:09:28.:09:32.

doing them brilliantly. In the semi-final I had a different line in

:09:33.:09:38.

19. I went for the spin option. Put everything on it. It came off really

:09:39.:09:41.

well. I was pleased that happened. Then the long wait as competitor

:09:42.:09:45.

after competitor comes down the course behind you. Never easy? For

:09:46.:09:51.

sure. It was a hard wait. A few mistakes and was able to breathe a

:09:52.:09:56.

sigh of relief. Then Jess. She was up for me at the start. I was

:09:57.:10:01.

waiting, watching. In the end, she was just ahead of me. It was all

:10:02.:10:06.

good, though. What about your run in the final? Had a few mistakes. Got a

:10:07.:10:11.

50 second penalty. That was disappointing. Still happy to have

:10:12.:10:16.

made it there in the first place. Looking at the women on the podium.

:10:17.:10:21.

What do you need to work on to get up there? If you compare me to

:10:22.:10:26.

Fiona, there is a difference in by accepts size. I'll be hitting the

:10:27.:10:31.

gym. And working on the technical side. Rep sending Great Britain,

:10:32.:10:39.

Fiona Pennie. CHEERING It's safe to say the men's

:10:40.:10:49.

C2 final isn't what we expected. We've no Dave Florence and Richard

:10:50.:10:58.

Hounslow. British hopes ride with Reece Davis and Matthew Lister. Back

:10:59.:11:00.

over to the commentators. We'll start it off with the form

:11:01.:11:15.

pair. Two men the Skantres who have won three of the five World Cups.

:11:16.:11:20.

Easy winners of the word cup tour this year. Surprising to see them

:11:21.:11:24.

just scraping into the final. Away we go. This is one occasion where

:11:25.:11:29.

you really wouldn't be surprised if the first boat down took the win.

:11:30.:11:34.

But they haven't shown the form they showed mid-season. They didn't look

:11:35.:11:38.

that comfortable on the course in their semi-final run. This is a much

:11:39.:11:44.

better start. They have to make sure they go round these poles a lot

:11:45.:11:51.

cleaner than in the semi-final run. They drop down into gate 8. This is

:11:52.:11:56.

where we see the double up cross the back of the stopper. Getting a good

:11:57.:12:01.

drive into the eddy line and across the flow coming back at them. Tail

:12:02.:12:06.

digs deep. This water's inconsistent. You see them being

:12:07.:12:13.

pushed about quite often. They'll jump into the eddy at gate 12. Den

:12:14.:12:20.

push back out into 13. We'll enter the next section, Savage Falls. An

:12:21.:12:25.

upstream on the right followed by a tricky stagger sequence into an

:12:26.:12:28.

upleft. This is where a lot of time can be lot of. They spot for the

:12:29.:12:34.

spin. Then a quick drop to get the lines where they can between 16 and

:12:35.:12:40.

17. We want the bows as high as possible. Working much better than

:12:41.:12:44.

they were in the semi-finals. Now comes the big test. We'll get a

:12:45.:12:50.

split with the other crews when they go through this stage. 86.99. Nev'

:12:51.:12:56.

decided to drop below. Interesting stuff. Trying for the quick return

:12:57.:13:02.

into the flow. But still, it's got to be slower than the direct line.

:13:03.:13:07.

No red marker. No penalty seconds added so far. Final upstream gate. A

:13:08.:13:15.

lot of movement on the poles. That's not their business. The wind has got

:13:16.:13:24.

stronger and stronger as the day's gone on. The Skantrs will have a

:13:25.:13:30.

time to test the rest of the crews. Will that time be good enough?

:13:31.:13:37.

Seemed quite a conservative and safe run from the Skantres. They wanted

:13:38.:13:41.

to make sure they didn't take up penalty points. They had eight

:13:42.:13:47.

seconds of penalty points in the semi-final. Rhys Davies and Matthew

:13:48.:13:53.

Lister from Great Britain. First down in the semi-final. They had to

:13:54.:13:57.

sit through a full hour to see if they'd done enough to go through.

:13:58.:14:01.

They were more surprised than anyone they made it. They scraped in. Now a

:14:02.:14:07.

real opportunity, the only British boat in this final. They will have

:14:08.:14:13.

heard and maybe seen Fiona Pennie's performance. Maybe that will spur

:14:14.:14:18.

them on to great things. A really solid start from the pairing. Good

:14:19.:14:23.

tight in and around gate 9. Interesting to see where they fare

:14:24.:14:27.

on this split time. Pretty much matching it. .01 down. Nothing in it

:14:28.:14:34.

at this point. A nice drive in on 12. Very well executed. Very

:14:35.:14:41.

composed. Working well together. This will be their top ten

:14:42.:14:46.

performance for 2010. What a moment. What a time to produce your best run

:14:47.:14:50.

of the year. Suffering their way across to 15. There's the little

:14:51.:14:56.

spin. We have the first touch. They could be crucial come the end of the

:14:57.:15:04.

day. Back across to 17. If they take 18, 19 direct, they might have a

:15:05.:15:10.

opportunity to claw back that time on the Skantres. They are still not

:15:11.:15:15.

far outside. They are going the same way they did on the first run,

:15:16.:15:21.

desperately trying not to split the gate. Just clipped the pole. Another

:15:22.:15:29.

penalty. It was a quicker line than the Skantr cousins took. They picked

:15:30.:15:33.

up a penalty. Frustrating. They want a strong finish as they draw the

:15:34.:15:38.

double canoe into the upstream gate. Power their way to the finish. A

:15:39.:15:45.

nice sweet spot between 23 and 24 where you drive the wave. 122.78 has

:15:46.:15:53.

long gone. In a second position. A really good top half to the course.

:15:54.:15:57.

Really good news they made it through to the last ten. They had a

:15:58.:16:09.

crack at it. Just a couple too many mistakes down the bottom of the

:16:10.:16:18.

course. Kaspr and Sindler join us next. Looking a pretty good start so

:16:19.:16:24.

far. Pretty smooth. One second inside for the two cheques. They've

:16:25.:16:31.

had a really solid season. A confidence boosting eighth place in

:16:32.:16:38.

the World Cup Finals. A good nip in and out of the eddy on 12. They'll

:16:39.:16:43.

go for a spin, I imagine, across this wave. Looking for the poles.

:16:44.:16:48.

Making sure they know where they are, they don't want to take any

:16:49.:16:53.

penalty points. Tail round, drive that boat directly. Nice line into

:16:54.:16:59.

17. Keeping good height there. I think the Skantres time is under

:17:00.:17:04.

threat if they stay clean. They go wide. They are going for that direct

:17:05.:17:10.

line. It's paid off so far. No, there's the touch. I think, did they

:17:11.:17:18.

split it? There's a two. Not so bad. They didn't get out of the move as

:17:19.:17:22.

quickly as they would have liked. Maybe not gaining as much of an

:17:23.:17:28.

advantage as they could have done. 122.78 the leading time. Last couple

:17:29.:17:37.

of gates for Kaspr and Sindler. They will take the lead. 118.12. Anyone

:17:38.:17:45.

who goes the long way around now can guarantee to find themselves outside

:17:46.:17:48.

that leading time. It seems to be the quicker option. They picked up a

:17:49.:17:53.

two second penalty. Got a little stuck. But it's the confidence. They

:17:54.:17:59.

took that run on direct. Get stuck and take that penalty. But it is a

:18:00.:18:03.

risk. They are so close already to splitting the gate. Pico and Biso

:18:04.:18:11.

from France, the second of the three French boats. Often good in the

:18:12.:18:15.

semi-finals but let it slip in the final. We'll find out if that is the

:18:16.:18:23.

case today. A fluid start across the top five, six gates. A nice

:18:24.:18:28.

upstream. Number 8. Tight under the poles at 9. Too tight. Taking a

:18:29.:18:35.

touch on the paddle shaft. That penalty, they would have been up

:18:36.:18:45.

without that. 1.79 down. Penalties early on in their semi-final run.

:18:46.:18:53.

Gates 2 and 5. Keeping good height through 14. They will will drive out

:18:54.:18:58.

on to this wave. Take the spin. Spotted where the poles are. Drive

:18:59.:19:02.

across. Get the bow turned down. Directly push it into 17. A good

:19:03.:19:08.

line. Not losing much time there. With the C2, Helen, you've back

:19:09.:19:14.

right paddlers and back left paddlers. The course do what they

:19:15.:19:19.

can to make sure it's fair for both. It is challenging for everybody.

:19:20.:19:22.

Doesn't seem to be making too much difference which is a good thing. I

:19:23.:19:26.

would have said it favoured the back right slightly more than the back

:19:27.:19:28.

left, if anything. Catch the wave. Draw it in. Nice

:19:29.:19:41.

upstream gate there. They want to pick up that little wave between 23

:19:42.:19:46.

and 24. Get the smooth line. This is starting to look good for the French

:19:47.:19:52.

boat. Pico, Biso. They go into second place with a very good

:19:53.:19:59.

recovery lower down despite those two second penalties. The last of

:20:00.:20:08.

the French boats, Claus and Pech. Can they make it two big

:20:09.:20:13.

competitions in a row? This is an afreesive run so far. They've high

:20:14.:20:18.

tempo as a pairing. Quick paddle strokes. Gliding it into gate 8. A

:20:19.:20:23.

little dip. Looking good at the moment. Just pushing out. I think

:20:24.:20:28.

they picked up a two second penalty at gate 8. Clipped it on the exit.

:20:29.:20:34.

That could make all the difference. It does make all the difference.

:20:35.:20:39.

They would have been level with the current leaders. A wider angle than

:20:40.:20:48.

they'd have chosen into gate 12. Got back into their rhythm. They really

:20:49.:20:59.

need pace now. Good suffer out. Spotted where the gates are. The

:21:00.:21:05.

drive across, get the bows down and drive as quickly as possible into

:21:06.:21:12.

17. We're getting news through about the Czech team, Kaspr and Sindler.

:21:13.:21:17.

They've been given a 50 second penalty. If that's confirmed they

:21:18.:21:22.

drop right down the order. At the moment, our computer telling us that

:21:23.:21:27.

Pico and Biso the current leaders from France. Still the French

:21:28.:21:32.

hauling in the medals if that's the way it stays. Let's focus on these

:21:33.:21:45.

two, Klaus and Pesch. Gate 22. Through there in 115. Not matching

:21:46.:21:54.

the best time. Pico and Biso confirmed the race leaders at the

:21:55.:21:57.

moment. Fifth position for the last of the French boats. Helen, which of

:21:58.:22:02.

the gates do you think the Czech crew might have hit? They were dodgy

:22:03.:22:07.

on 19, I thought at the time. It looks like they've been given their

:22:08.:22:12.

50 second penalty on the bottom of the course on that 19. It was a

:22:13.:22:16.

tricky gate. It is such a tricky gate. We see so many people fall on

:22:17.:22:30.

that one. Bozic from Slovenia. Are they on their way to world champion

:22:31.:22:37.

glory? Need to be on gate 8 around 28 seconds. That is to be up with

:22:38.:22:43.

the best. Not far off. They are in contention at this stage. Really

:22:44.:22:47.

good early season. Dropped away a little bit after Prague. But then

:22:48.:22:53.

came back to some sort of form in ashberg. Much better out here in

:22:54.:22:57.

Deep Creek than we've seen for a few weeks. .51 inside. Looking smooth

:22:58.:23:01.

and very controlled at the moment. You can see them getting the power

:23:02.:23:05.

in at the front of the boat. They are waiting. Making sure the bow

:23:06.:23:10.

goes under the poles at 13. Under the poles at 14 as well. Very nicely

:23:11.:23:14.

done. Slipping off a little bit there. A tricky eddy line. A lot of

:23:15.:23:24.

water. They've dropped below the current leaders Pico and Biso at the

:23:25.:23:30.

moment. Push hard into 17. Keep as much height as possible. We push out

:23:31.:23:34.

into 18. Is it going to be direct? Are they going to go above or below?

:23:35.:23:39.

That's the question. They are setting up for the above move. A

:23:40.:23:45.

good push. Quick spin. They've negotiated it safely. Great work.

:23:46.:23:49.

Great work. That could be the gold medal winning move provided they

:23:50.:23:55.

don't get penalised later on. The slough of slough Ianians heading for

:23:56.:24:01.

what could be a gold medal run. Good work from the two paddlers. 168

:24:02.:24:07.

their time in the semi-final. Well inside that. 119.16 they are after.

:24:08.:24:17.

They've got it surely? 118 much 43. They go into top spot with a superb

:24:18.:24:20.

run. -- 118.43. So, Matt, we saw the handshake at

:24:21.:24:43.

the end of your final run. We must assume that went well? We were

:24:44.:24:47.

really happy, proud we've finally nailed the rest of the season. Just

:24:48.:24:52.

wrapped it up nicely with a PB for us. Couldn't be happier. Rhys, a

:24:53.:25:00.

difficult course? So technical. You have to focus. Keep on it. We lost a

:25:01.:25:06.

bit of focus towards the end but it cost us darling. But we are happy.

:25:07.:25:11.

The C2 event is shaping up nicely from a British point of view?

:25:12.:25:16.

Definitely. We've a really good background. #08ed boats coming back

:25:17.:25:22.

in. It will be really hard to get to 26 team but a really interesting

:25:23.:25:26.

race. Some good racing to follow for the next couple of years. That's the

:25:27.:25:31.

end of the racing. I'm delighted to say Paul Radcliffe joins me. The

:25:32.:25:35.

chief coach. How was that week for the GB team? I think it's got to 'em

:25:36.:25:41.

podsy the philosophy of the team. We've had to fight for everything

:25:42.:25:46.

we've got this weekend. It's a really tough place to come. A lot of

:25:47.:25:50.

different challenges out there on the course. I'm really pleased with

:25:51.:25:54.

the way the whole team's handled a lot of different situations. We've

:25:55.:25:59.

had some ups and downs. We've finished on a very good day today.

:26:00.:26:03.

Super pleased for Fiona's medal. Second place. That's eight years

:26:04.:26:08.

since she won her last medal. She's on the up again. Mallory Franklin to

:26:09.:26:14.

repeat what she did is phenomenal. Some of the youngsters are coming

:26:15.:26:19.

through. For the under-23 teams. Finalses from Lister and Davis. Tom

:26:20.:26:24.

Quin's put it in there. Latham. Sile' ask you a tough question. Ask

:26:25.:26:31.

you to pick out bun of the GB performers who's your stand-out? It

:26:32.:26:35.

has to be Fiona Pennie. So pleased for her today. Working with the

:26:36.:26:42.

coaching team, Mark Ratcliffe, working so hard on the day. She was

:26:43.:26:47.

inch-perfect. We thought that was gold, to be honest. The girl's who's

:26:48.:26:54.

won full credit. But Fiona, awesome. It was a surprise and shock for

:26:55.:26:58.

Florence and Hounslow not to even get to the semi-final? We see the

:26:59.:27:02.

amount of work them guys put in every day, day in, day out. They are

:27:03.:27:07.

so professional. So hard working. They prepared excellently for this

:27:08.:27:10.

championship race. Sometimes it doesn't go to plan. Florence said to

:27:11.:27:16.

me halfway through the season, I learn more out of failure than I do

:27:17.:27:20.

out of winning. We're hoping he'll take stock of that. So will Richard.

:27:21.:27:25.

Next year's the big one for 2015. I'm hoping the team will come

:27:26.:27:29.

stronger next year for our Olympic qualification. Is a big advantage to

:27:30.:27:36.

have Olympic qualification on home ground? We know the course inside

:27:37.:27:42.

out. It is up to us to chill out a bit with that. Not overtry. We are

:27:43.:27:47.

expecting a really tough course like we had today. We are prepared for

:27:48.:27:54.

that as well. That's the end of World Championship slalom coon ewe.

:27:55.:28:00.

But gymnastics is on 7th October. Coverage starts at 3.00pm. That's

:28:01.:28:04.

all from Deep Creek in Maryland. It's been a week not without its

:28:05.:28:09.

challenges for the British team. But they do go home with two medal

:28:10.:28:14.

performances to savour. Bye-bye.

:28:15.:28:27.
