Good evening and welcome to Sportscene.

It's been a momentous weekend in the Scottish football calender.

Two pulsating matches coming up, plus Premiership and

And with us in the studio tonight, the Pats -

We start with the League Cup semifinal today at Hampden.

Holders Celtic up against Ross County.

Commentary from Craig Paterson and Liam McLeod.

A season defining few days coming up for the holders, Celtic move a step

closer to the holy grail of a domestic clean sweep if they can see

off Ross County today. All things considered, it's a fairly unusual

line-up. Normally a two upfront team, they have reinforced the

midfield today, as they have in the two league games against Celtic so

far this season. Ian McShane we think will sit with Schalk, chosen

to lead the line. Scott Brown is back in the Celtic squad, but only

makes the bench today. Boyata comes back into the fold after a month

out. Mackay-Steven started his career at County, you wouldn't bet

against Leigh Griffiths adding to his 27 goals already this season.

Ross County looking to reach their first ever League Cup final. Celtic

aiming for League Cup final number 31. They are big, big favourites to

do so, the right to face Hibernian in the 70th staging of this

competition showpiece is the prize on offer, back here on the 13th of

March. Craig Paterson, what do you think? I'm looking forward to Liz.

The opening seconds of the game, Griffiths is in. Celtic have a dream

start in the semifinal, inside 30 seconds. A sensational start for the

holders! Unbelievable. The team settle into the game and Celtic

decked off Ross County in the first minute. You have to be on your toes.

Griffiths is through, brilliant play. Could have taken the

goalkeeper on himself. Great team play.

It's not a bad strike at all and Craig Gordon had to look very lively

to keep it out. A great save. That's more like it from County. Shock gets

over the ball, fires it. -- Schalk. Irvine stabbed it through, on Gordon

here. Well, well, it's another red card for Celtic and it's Ambrose who

goes. This has turned on 6p here Hampden. He goes across just there.

He goes down. As soon as the referee thinks that's a penalty kick,

unfortunately he's going to get the red card.

Against Craig Bourton. He has yet to score this season. Woods has scored.

even if he had guessed right, I don't think he would have saved

it. It's another brilliant move again, Martin Woods with the ball,

Michael Gardyne sceptred about the far post. Jackson Irvine hits it

well, but straight at the keeper. Tierney, for Griffiths, takes it

down, looking for a sight at the goal. Brilliant goalkeeping by Fox.

That took at least one deflection. The one job of the goalkeeper is

keep it out of the back of the net and that is a magnificent save. It's

all over. Ross County are into the League Cup final. It is

all over. Ross County are into the Celtic. What will the repercussions

be for the big Norwegian? There will be no trouble for Celtic. There is

joy for the studies, there is -- this is their day. Just look at the

facial expression on those wearing a Ross County badge. And so very

proudly they do so. It finished here at the National Stadium, Ross County

three, Celtic one. I thought the players were magnificent, to lose a

goal the way we did, it was the exact opposite of the game plan and

obviously we had to show courage and character to come back. I thought

the opening ten minutes, the goal knocked the stuffing out of us and

Celtic were all over us. We had to hang in there. Celtic are a top side

and we were down to ten men twice this year and didn't get the job

done, so absolutely thrilled. I think you said at the end of last

year you were pretty confident and hopeful you could go on and win the

treble this year. How big a blow is that due this season? I don't think

I said that. It's very tough to do that. History shows that. But you

always have a dream and I hope and they had it today and we started

very well, it looks like we had the game in our hands and things changed

and that is very disappointing. Can you go all the way? Of course we

can, we beat Celtic, it gives us confidence in the squad. We have

them next week in the league. We finished top six. We are looking for

fourth position as well. Finish as high as we can. We have a good squad

in their and of course we can win the Cup now, of course we can.

It was the right decision for a penalty and a sending off? There

were some big moments, not necessarily tactical things. A

lovely bit of play. This passing is very good. He is going to make that

run in their behind Michael Lustig. He should probably be looking at it,

but it is a beautiful dummy. You have a look at when the a nice

dummy. The question everybody wants to know what is it a penalty kick or

is it a sending off. To be fair I think you cannot argue with that. It

has caught him there. Once you make any contact in the box and you are

running at pace, the referee is going to give a penalty. There is

not much of a tackle, but he just catches him. I made an argument

today that may be some of the Celtic fans thought it was a sending off as

well. He passed him and then once the penalties given, there is no

alternative but to send him off. It is unfortunate for Michael Ambrose.

He should be thinking he had no alternative but to chase them. That

was a big moment. The referees will give the penalty and will give the

sending off. Was this within the rules? Right at

the top. Michael listed is picking up Alan Davies, but he blocks him

off. Mikael Lustig. He is going to go down there, he has his man

blocked. That is number one. The other one you look at is Craig

Gordon. There is an arm around him. I am looking down and thinking there

is a goalkeeper here. The blocks that off. He had to go down and

react to the cross. -- he blocks. That is a definite free kick

forming. Craig Gordon goes absolutely berserk. There is a

movement here. That is another error. I would make an excuse the

Celtic defence, they do all sorts of different things. The referee's

perfect position. I would make the argument, referees cannot see that

block or what is done there. He is in the position to see everything.

There is always a problem. There are mistakes by Celtic. You have to give

credit to Ross County and how they have perfected that corner kick.

They worked it really well and they got that reward from it. He got to

the track and it is forward. What you would remember about Celtic, I

thought they were having more of a play for long periods. It was

against ten men. The performance from Ross County, really impressive,

the young goalkeeper played a blinder. I have never seen anything

else from him. A good save for a penalty kick,

incredible. This is a brilliant save, all the bodies in front. He is

So Ross County into their very first League Cup Final.

Yesterday at Tynecastle saw the first of the semifinals,

Hibs and St Johnstone both vying for a place in the final on Sunday

Watching for Sportscene was Alasdair Lamont.

The last time these teams were on mutual territory it was for a League

Cup semifinal right here at Tynecastle. The men from League 1,

3-1, they lifted the trophy by beating Kilmarnock. Alex Stubbs

tries to clinch the first piece of silverware, they have been unable to

bring Anthony Stokes into the team. The only change to this side is the

introduction of Berkeley. Quite an atmosphere inside

semifinal. St Johnstone are underway. The stadium belongs to

Hibernian's city rivals. They have been dominated by fans from Leith.

the edge of the box. I am not sure there is any more contact on this

occasion than there was the last time. Simon Lappin fires it in and

close across the Hibernian goal. The Hibernian fans really feel the game

is theirs for the taking at the moment. Joe Shaughnessy, picks it up

and goes for gold. Beautiful goals from John McGinn. Blistering effort

from the midfielder. This is no more than a half chance the German game

-- for John McGinn. Boy did he let rip. He has put Hibs in the final of

the League Cup. Again a lovely ball. Can you finish

it the Hibs. Not quite. -- can he finish it for Hibs? He just missed

the target. A narrow angle, what a pass for John McGinn. Here is John

McGinn. A lovely turn away from Davison. Challenged by Joe

Shaughnessy. Again he is offside, what a run from John McGinn. Three

or four defenders there. Joe Shaughnessy was challenged. Can the

captain get him back in it, no is the answer. The referee blows his

whistle! It is Hibernian who have come out on top. They go to the

League Cup final. Their tremendous run of form continues. I believe in

the team. We have managed to get to one cup final which I am so proud of

the players, they deserve all the accolades and the pats on the back

today, because they not only made me proud, but they made 12 thousand 500

fans proud as well. -- 12,000 500. We are disappointed but we will pick

ourselves up. It is such a great occasion for everyone involved in

the club. It is a great day out for all the fans. A great performance

from John McGinn. A fantastic result. No doubt about the talking

point of the weekend. It has been poured over a million times, the

Henderson penalty. Was there contact? I would love to be able to

tell you if there was or wasn't. It was almost impossible. From where I

was, to be brutally honest, I don't think so. He looks at that one and

it looks as if there is a little brush. If there is a brush, it is

exactly the same as what we were saying before about Ambrose. It is

either a penalty or it is not a saying before about Ambrose. It is

penalty. It is the softest of softest penalties. When you or any

at pace and someone sticks out their leg and I think Chris Miller could

have gone with his arms. Once you stick out your arm, if there is any

touch, he has gone down. He put his hands up at the end but

he had stuck out his leg and that's the difference between Ambrose's

situation with Celtic, he put his knee into the player and didn't

stick out his leg, so there is an argument yes, it was a penalty, if

he has touched them and that's a bit we are unsure about. Some people

will feel he died. I don't think there was a dive. He made the most

of it shall we say, euphemistically, and his movement was impeded, you

can save much. Chris comes across a bit so his movement is impeded even

if he wasn't touched, he has moved out of the way, so off-balance. A

dive is far too harsh. McGinn played brilliantly yesterday. We talked

about at St Mirren. He was crunching into tackles, it's great to see a

young Scots player in the League Cup with energy in the middle of the

pitch and he can pass the ball too. He has a good awareness and he is in

there, driving that team. A little bit out of position. You could see a

little bit, he looked at himself, he will know himself maybe if you could

have got to it but will know himself maybe if you could

strike, dipping down in front of the back of the net, but look at this,

great awareness, good pass, sets up diagonal, could have been in goal

and we will see the run at the end. But he had a superb game yesterday.

It's great to see a personality here as well, isn't it? This strike is

brilliant, we have watched Synod in Sudan famously, a great run --

Zidane. Alan Stubbs has said ice trust you as lads, believing you as

lads, I enjoy your football, sure what you can do and you know how

much better that makes you feel as a creative player, it's incredible.

Who is favourite for the final, Ross County your heads? It's hard to call

it, Hibs are playing with abundance and confidence but Ross County

getting there and John McIntyre has done a magnificent job. To go on the

run they went on, they are up now in the top six in the league, now they

have beaten Celtic. They will be getting into high-end confidence and

it may turn out to be a terrific final. I'm guessing you are batting

-- backing Hibs? I think it is 50-50, a toss of the coin. There is

not much between the two teams. Hibs are a lower league team, not playing

well and they have better players than that but any lower league team

you have to give them respect. They are only slight favourites.

Next weekend, it's all about a different Cup.

Hamilton make one change from the side that drew with Hearts last

McHattie not too far away with that effort. Kilmarnock, one defeat in

the last four matches. They have only picked up one win in the last

did. The referee played good advantage, after Ashcroft took out

Back in towards Boyd, who has gone to ground in a challenge with

from Imrie, just too high. He is the top scorer, with five goals this

season. But trying to catch out McDonald with a curling effort,

Devlin and Boyd collide, and the referee saw nothing untoward in that

incident. The header away from Jamie Hamill,

too high from the Kilmarnock substitute. They are looking for a

look -- they are looking for a push to their confidence after last

week's disappointment. It's only Kris Boyd's ninth league start of

the season. He scored three goals so far, that was close to number four.

Locked away, Hamilton Academicals have the corner.

on loan from Norwich, his effort coming off the head and it took a

out here and pick up their first win in their last nine league matches.

Overall I didn't think it was a great game, quite a poor game. Both

sides at times, especially ourselves, fought early in the game,

nervous and a bit looking -- lacking in confidence with so many players

but the only way they are going to get through it is

Kilmarnock in the next 24 hours. Is he the right man right now? There

are a lot of things Billy would bring to the job. There are guys who

can do it out there but there will be no lack of effort. He is one of

the most intense managers you'll ever come across and no stone will

be left unturned. There will be plenty of managers. Jimmy Calderwood

have mentioned. Stuart McCall might be mentioned. You need somebody

experienced quickly. It's a tough job to take. A certain level of

managers think it could look bad if they take it and it goes wrong for

them. That's 25% of the managers so far this season have lost their

jobs, it's an horrendous job to take up and I have respect for those that

do it. I feel sorry for Gary Locke. A massive victory for Hamilton

Academicals, it was all was going to be a big result of one of these

sides could get three points. Yes, he put it into that area and you get

free, got a bit of luck, took a deflection but he is claiming that

goal, a big, big goal. They don't win that, Kilmarnock to win it, one

goal either way. Kilmarnock find themselves above Hamilton that just

now and that's how tight it is, how close. It's a really tough gig.

Next up, Dundee, looking at top six, versus a Motherwell side trying

to put some distance between themselves and a play-off place.

Dundee safely through in the Scottish Cup against Falkirk, two

changes. A narrow home loss to Ross County

That's long looking. Johnson going for the byline, it's a great ball

absolute belter. Johnson played it across and he had the confidence to

bring it down and hit it sweetly with the left foot.

Dundee U looking to strike back. And he has the equaliser. It's McGowan's

first goal in almost a year. Brought under control superbly. The turn and

the dispatch. Dundee are level inside two minutes, 1-1. The snow is

relentless. McGowan is forward again. Peter fourball, wide, to

Hemmings. -- beautiful ball. Nine goals in his last six games for

Dundee, Hemmings is a constant threat and shows again good play. He

has managed in better conditions, Mark McGhee. There is no takers.

Horrible ones for goalkeepers, Scott Bain having to stretch out here. He

will have worried about the touch. That's a really good stop.

McGowan is calling for it. Pulls it back, off the bar. It should have

been, from Rory Loy. This is a miss back, off the bar. It should have

from four yards out, beautiful play, had to score, simply had to score.

Simply had to score. A couple of pushes and away. He is so dangerous.

He likes the run. Confident on the left foot. Working the 1-2 with the

ball. This is brilliant from Pearson. He scores for the third

straight game against Dundee. The effort, may well have been going

wide. You are not sure. Plays it through. Almost releases the past.

Here is Pearson. He is offside. The celebration is quickly could tail.

You put the game beyond Dundee. He tries to get the ball away. The

referee was in a good position. Dundee will get the spot kick. He

just tried to hook it away. He did not think he caught him. The referee

did. Perfectly dispatched. He scores perfectly here for 2-2. A face like

fears. -- fizz. A good stop from Conor Ripley. We are in a dogfight

to avoid the play-offs all worse, to avoid relegation at the moment.

Every point accounts and to have him almost over the line, a difficult

defensive performance in the second half. We had a chance at the other

end that probably should have finished the game. The strategy was

right, I felt we deserved to win the game and the referee made a terrible

call. Paul Hartley did not speak to us. Was there any contact? The

referee certainly thought there was. I did not think there was contact.

They are trying to kick the ball away. You can have a look at it

here. It was headed out, trying to clear it. I cannot see much contact.

There does seem a sense of surprise when the referee gives it. The

referee is in a good position. If you have the Hibs penalty, there is

one half decent kick between the three of them. They are all just

tiny glances. The only one you can absolutely clearly see is Ambrose as

the connection. The others you cannot absolutely see those

connections. Mark will be really disappointed. The last time I was on

here, I gave Mark a big build-up and he was doing well and they have not

done anything since that. I will not give Mark praise again. In saying

that he will be disappointed, a big result away from home and they were

2-1 up and to lose that goal late on, he was really annoyed. They do

score a lot of goals, just three clean sheets this season.

This is a brilliant move. We were talking about some of the great

moves. Dribbling through from a distance. There are opportunities.

Do you know what? That just makes for a good game of football. Lots of

chances. You go out there, you close things down.

A lot of chat about Michael O'Halloran and whether he will go to

Rangers. When they are playing well, they are a joy to watch. A lot came

from the left-hand side. They have a lot of players there who are attack

minded. They are given the freedom to move around and they do not play

in a position as such. That is difficult for defenders and they
