Create a visualisation. A process whereby negative images that

:00:51.:01:01.

provoked negative feelings are substituted by those that elicit

:01:02.:01:05.

positivity. COMMENTATOR: He's making his way up

:01:06.:01:09.

to the players box. I've never seen anything like this before. Today,

:01:10.:01:14.

four men face off in different matches with different views of the

:01:15.:01:21.

future. For Canadian Milos Raonic, his vision is reaching a first ever

:01:22.:01:28.

Grand Slam final. Czech Tomas Berdych knows what it's like to lose

:01:29.:01:32.

a Wimbledon final. His motivation is to take the next step and win one.

:01:33.:01:39.

Andy Murray was the Wimbledon champion in 2013. In his mind's eye,

:01:40.:01:45.

a second title is the aim. And for Roger Federer, seven times champion

:01:46.:01:49.

here, the vision is an eighth triumph. Visualisation is over. Now

:01:50.:02:03.

it's back to reality. Time for the hard part.

:02:04.:02:08.

Our very own Zen master, Pat Cash, getting in the zone there, with the

:02:09.:02:17.

1987 champion highlighting that the difference between winning and

:02:18.:02:20.

losing is as much mental as it is physical. Who will have the strength

:02:21.:02:25.

today remains to be seen. Good afternoon. Today is always a tense

:02:26.:02:28.

and nerve wracking day as the players know they are only two wins

:02:29.:02:33.

away from the greatest prize in tennis. We started with 128 players

:02:34.:02:40.

going for glory last Monday, but by tonight only two will be left, from

:02:41.:02:46.

these two matches. First up is Roger Federer, the Swiss master has won

:02:47.:02:50.

seven titles here and is looking for a record eighth. In his

:02:51.:02:55.

quarterfinal, he rolled back the years coming from two sets down to

:02:56.:02:59.

reach his 11 semifinal. Federer's record here is incredible. He's

:03:00.:03:05.

never lost a Wimbledon semifinal. The question is, can he continue

:03:06.:03:09.

that record today? They sing the force of Federer is this man, Milos

:03:10.:03:14.

Raonic. The big serving Canadian is coached by John McEnroe and, like

:03:15.:03:18.

his opponent, has come back here from being two sets down. He's

:03:19.:03:24.

quiet, calm and uncomplicated, but a player you just cannot

:03:25.:03:29.

underestimate. The second semifinal involves Tomas Berdych. The man from

:03:30.:03:33.

the Czech Republic has a game for grass and has proved that on his day

:03:34.:03:38.

he can beat anyone on his specialist surface. He reached the final in

:03:39.:03:43.

2010 but found Rafael Nadal too good. He has a steely disposition on

:03:44.:03:48.

court which lets his racket do the talking. Up against Berdych is

:03:49.:03:56.

Britain's Andy Murray. The 2013 champion came through an epic five

:03:57.:03:59.

set match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Wednesday. How much that has

:04:00.:04:04.

taken out of him remains to be seen. But Murray is the highest ranked

:04:05.:04:07.

player left in the draw and is the favourite. A win today would put him

:04:08.:04:12.

in a third Wimbledon final and a third successive Grand Slam final in

:04:13.:04:17.

2016. Here is how this fantastic Friday looks. First up on Centre

:04:18.:04:23.

Court, Federer against Raonic, then Berdych against Murray. What an

:04:24.:04:29.

atmosphere it promises to be. As far as Andy Murray supporters are

:04:30.:04:34.

concerned, there is an air of expectation too. Earlier this

:04:35.:04:38.

morning, Andy was out on court. The fans packed around that court to

:04:39.:04:42.

watch their hero go through his final practice session before the

:04:43.:04:47.

semifinal. Jamie Delgado, one of his coaches, in the background. Van

:04:48.:04:51.

-- Ivan Lendl there as well. He has certainly proved that he is the

:04:52.:05:00.

favourite and he is playing well. But you cannot underestimate this

:05:01.:05:04.

man. He's been coming through the draw quietly but he has beaten

:05:05.:05:07.

Djokovic and Federer here and he has a big game. That is Murray against

:05:08.:05:14.

Berdych later this afternoon. Before we head to Centre Court and everyone

:05:15.:05:19.

watching the action unfold on Henman Hill, let's find out about the

:05:20.:05:24.

weather and if we're going to have it dry all day. Bring us some good

:05:25.:05:31.

news, Carol. Good news, it should stay dry all day. Henman Hill is

:05:32.:05:38.

jam-packed, not a square inch left. Brollies can stay down. Some areas

:05:39.:05:42.

of cloud coming across at times and that bridge will be about 22, and

:05:43.:05:47.

when the sun comes back out we're looking at about 24 and light

:05:48.:05:53.

breezes. Tomorrow morning we're looking -- tomorrow morning will

:05:54.:05:57.

start off cloudy but that will push away by around 11. Like today it is

:05:58.:06:01.

an improving picture with bright spells and sunny skies and

:06:02.:06:05.

temperatures into the low to mid 20s depending on the amount of cloud

:06:06.:06:09.

cover we have and if we have sunny skies. On Sunday there is the risk

:06:10.:06:13.

of rain in the morning but that will clear, leaving some showers behind.

:06:14.:06:18.

It will be breezy rather than blustery on Sunday, so that is a

:06:19.:06:23.

change in the forecast. It will also feel fresher. I do know about you

:06:24.:06:27.

but I'm looking forward to lots and lots of brilliant tennis! Yes and I

:06:28.:06:31.

don't think we will need the roof either! We will be heading off to

:06:32.:06:35.

Centre Court in a moment, but don't forget if you can't watch the

:06:36.:06:41.

matches live on TV today, you can download the apps and watch on your

:06:42.:06:47.

mobile device. If you can't access a computer or laptop, you can listen

:06:48.:06:50.

to five live commentary. Wherever you are, you can be across today's

:06:51.:07:01.

matches. We are going to Centre Court for Milos Raonic against Roger

:07:02.:07:07.

Federer. Raonic Rog Federer and that big forehand has sealed the first

:07:08.:07:12.

set X games to three. Federer in a fight again here on Centre Court, as

:07:13.:07:18.

Raonic goes up one set in this match. That happened a short while

:07:19.:07:23.

ago and as we join it, it is one game all. They have both held serve.

:07:24.:07:30.

The commentators, Raonic's coach John McEnroe, alongside Andrew

:07:31.:07:31.

Cotter. ANDREW COTTER: Oh! Swing and a miss

:07:32.:08:15.

from Raonic, and a hold for Federer. A half smile on the face of Milos

:08:16.:08:24.

Raonic. JOHN MCENROE: that happened to Federer at the end of a Raonic

:08:25.:08:34.

service game. By the end of two weeks of play you see bad hops more

:08:35.:08:39.

often. It came right off the line, maybe it held up. For whatever

:08:40.:08:47.

reason, he completely wiffed on it. So embarrassing to have that happen

:08:48.:08:56.

on a second serve. He can take a quick look at the scoreboard and

:08:57.:09:00.

say, I have actually won the first set against this great champion.

:09:01.:09:06.

Yes, a reminder, seven times the champion, Roger Federer. Five in a

:09:07.:09:16.

row from 03-07. He is looking to make his third successive final, but

:09:17.:09:19.

he has come up against Djokovic in the final in the last two successive

:09:20.:09:23.

years. APPLAUSE

:09:24.:09:59.

Is imposing himself there, Milos Raonic. Federer looked as if he

:10:00.:10:05.

didn't quite know what to do with the last shot. The ball doesn't sit

:10:06.:10:10.

up high enough for him to take a big swing at it, so he just had to thank

:10:11.:10:14.

at it. Raonic hits a good drop volley. Very effective shot on this

:10:15.:10:26.

court. It doesn't sit up as much as it would on a hard court.

:10:27.:10:40.

APPLAUSE And the serve and volley works again

:10:41.:10:50.

for Raonic. That is a recipe for a lot of players, to pull them off the

:10:51.:10:57.

court. The other player gets desperate and tries for something to

:10:58.:11:02.

big and you are closing in on that like he was there.

:11:03.:11:09.

Trying to keep Federer from getting a rhythm.

:11:10.:11:19.

APPLAUSE Well, in fact it from Milos Raonic.

:11:20.:11:29.

Able to go for that second serve therewith a bit of a comfort zone.

:11:30.:11:35.

-- emphatic. You would be foolish to think that he is not far more than

:11:36.:11:43.

just a big serve. He's had a big tournament moving forward at net.

:11:44.:11:47.

He's got a huge forehand. The backhand, he's getting more

:11:48.:11:48.

confidence with. Well, the longest rally so far.

:11:49.:12:11.

Raonic fails at the last. APPLAUSE

:12:12.:13:02.

Rock-solid service game from Roger Federer.

:13:03.:13:12.

His wife among those applauding. Huge support for Federer here. A lot

:13:13.:13:26.

of people out on the hill, many of them watching for Andy Murray

:13:27.:13:29.

against Tomas Berdych. That to follow this one. A big crowd once

:13:30.:13:40.

again on Henman Hill. A big hello to everyone. The first point of that

:13:41.:13:45.

game was the type of point that Raonic doesn't want to play against

:13:46.:13:49.

Federer. Do not get into extended rallies, do not give him believe, do

:13:50.:13:52.

not let him push you around. You can see that Federer is starting

:13:53.:14:13.

to find his game a bit. That is why you have to play this on your own

:14:14.:14:15.

terms, if you are Milos Raonic. As well for Federer, five sets

:14:16.:14:30.

against Marin Cilic would probably be a longer and more arduous test

:14:31.:14:34.

than against Raonic. They should be shorter points in this match.

:14:35.:15:02.

APPLAUSE Raonic has served tremendously well.

:15:03.:15:16.

70% first serves in for the match so far.

:15:17.:15:22.

Yes, and 70% of first serves at that speed. This is major hit he's

:15:23.:15:34.

purring at you. Again, when you are 40-0, you can go

:15:35.:16:06.

for a bigger second serve. The thing with Raonic is that he doesn't just

:16:07.:16:12.

do that at 40-0! He's got a lot of belief, as he should, in that serve.

:16:13.:16:38.

We're not going to show a replay? He's trying to hang onto it. We will

:16:39.:17:04.

pretend he caught it, great catch! That is a risky move for any player

:17:05.:17:26.

these days, coming in on that second serve.

:17:27.:17:39.

APPLAUSE Great work from Federer at the net

:17:40.:17:44.

again. Nicely set up by that approach shot.

:17:45.:17:58.

Progressive exchange, Raonic battling from behind.

:17:59.:18:15.

No question he's better off going for it and keeping these points

:18:16.:18:36.

short, as he did there. That will be the best backhand he has hit so far.

:18:37.:18:52.

APPLAUSE Well, a clench of the fist from

:18:53.:19:04.

Federer. He is digging in, here. Being tested once again on serve.

:19:05.:19:19.

50% for the match, first serves. Big hold for Federer.

:19:20.:19:47.

We know his skill and talents, but character as well. 15-30 turns into

:19:48.:19:55.

a hold of serve. He had a good look at two second

:19:56.:20:11.

serves in a row. One at 15-30, ripped it wide. The one at 30-30 was

:20:12.:20:17.

when he tightened up. You see that kick, as a player you know it's

:20:18.:20:20.

going to go to your left a little bit. He didn't prepare enough for

:20:21.:20:28.

it, got a little stuck at the front. Talking about his injury, torn

:20:29.:20:35.

ministers just after his defeat to Djokovic in the Australian Open. --

:20:36.:20:42.

miniscus. In recent years those injuries have been creeping in. He

:20:43.:20:46.

had an ongoing back problem, as most tennis players sportsmen do. He has

:20:47.:20:52.

often delayed an operation. He feels any operation would be the beginning

:20:53.:20:56.

of the end of things. Again, it's about managing his career at this

:20:57.:21:00.

stage. It's pretty amazing he's gone this far. Clearly hoping to try to

:21:01.:21:14.

hang in another year, couple of years, get more major titles.

:21:15.:21:22.

Charles Dance, there, argue a Game of Thrones fan? It's a bit violent!

:21:23.:21:28.

It is. Tywin Lannister. APPLAUSE

:21:29.:21:47.

That is a beautiful low return. You know he's going to try and slice it

:21:48.:21:50.

into your feet, there. APPLAUSE

:21:51.:22:09.

Systematically and clinically going about his work at the moment,

:22:10.:22:11.

Raonic. A great service game from Raonic.

:22:12.:22:39.

The new balls, the serves were coming in in a hurry. These guys

:22:40.:22:46.

just hammered the ball, swing so hard, the ball is fluff up.

:22:47.:22:51.

Another new weapon of choice from Raonic. No player likes to play with

:22:52.:23:04.

the new racket and new balls. If they are serving, they will wait

:23:05.:23:08.

that extra game. Those guys have done it in this match. That was very

:23:09.:23:16.

good from Federer. That may be part of the reason why he has won this

:23:17.:23:18.

seven times! APPLAUSE

:23:19.:24:17.

Oh! Right to the corner again. Once more, Federer just feeling it on

:24:18.:24:22.

serve. Not hitting the backhand as cleanly as he would have liked. No

:24:23.:24:28.

mistake about it, Raonic has got a big forehand, as he showed there.

:24:29.:24:35.

It is Federer making the noise at the end as he holds serve once more.

:24:36.:25:07.

This is the same shot he had a couple of points ago. Put a bit more

:25:08.:25:12.

on it and wait for it. Dutifully struck.

:25:13.:25:16.

-- beautifully struck. Slowly but surely, he will hit himself into

:25:17.:25:25.

this match, bring the crowd more into this match, as he did against

:25:26.:25:30.

Marin Cilic a few days ago. You heard him and the crowd there and

:25:31.:25:35.

that is exactly what he will want. Winners do get the Centre Court

:25:36.:25:38.

crowd going and so many of them are willing him to another final. The

:25:39.:25:44.

head-to-head 9-2 in Federer's favour. A lot of actors in here

:25:45.:25:51.

today. Federer won the last six encounters.

:25:52.:26:15.

Raonic has won two of the last five. That is somewhat respectable,

:26:16.:26:17.

heading in the right direction, as he serves to stay in this second

:26:18.:26:19.

set. We are an hour into this. The final stroke denies him. Great

:26:20.:26:49.

movement and Federer keeping Raonic moving all over the court. He loves

:26:50.:26:54.

that shot. This was actually a great get. A far easier ball than the

:26:55.:26:57.

first one. APPLAUSE

:26:58.:27:26.

One more for Federer. Suddenly the noise grows. The wind

:27:27.:27:42.

in the sails of Federer. APPLAUSE

:27:43.:28:13.

Well, and ugly double fault from Milos Raonic. Three set points for

:28:14.:28:17.

Roger Federer. What a wonderful play by Milos

:28:18.:29:03.

Raonic. Right on the line when the court was open.

:29:04.:29:07.

He has dug himself a deep hole. That was excellent but he still has to

:29:08.:29:14.

save two more. It works again for Raonic! Two down,

:29:15.:29:33.

one to go. What a superb second serve. From

:29:34.:30:23.

that position, from 0-40, he is nearly out of the hole now. Work not

:30:24.:30:25.

yet complete. No chance coming for Federer. That

:30:26.:31:03.

forehand had a lot on it. That was just beautiful.

:31:04.:31:44.

The shock in the crowd at the sound of the mis-hit.

:31:45.:31:56.

Surprising, considering how well he hit the previous backhand to get the

:31:57.:32:00.

set going again. Milos's first serve, which has

:32:01.:32:15.

drifted away a bit in this game. As a bold and brave as you will see

:32:16.:32:46.

from Milos Raonic. The points came and went, and he can breathe again

:32:47.:32:53.

for now. He showed some extreme toughness and fortitude. The game

:32:54.:32:59.

got to 0-40, it was tight. It was deathly silent when he was

:33:00.:33:09.

trying to save those set points. He loves to hit that serve, take it

:33:10.:34:10.

off the court. Good job by Federer there.

:34:11.:34:28.

That surprised Federer, that's for sure.

:34:29.:34:37.

He was expecting a slice across court. Keeping your opponent honest.

:34:38.:34:43.

A fantastic shot there. CHEERING

:34:44.:35:32.

So, Federer collects another. He will have at least a tie-break.

:35:33.:35:43.

Raonic had a good look at 30-30 after returning the second serve.

:35:44.:35:53.

He has to be thinking to himself it could very easily be one set each.

:35:54.:36:01.

He switches side even though he missed that drop volley. He has

:36:02.:36:04.

given the seven time champion something to think about.

:36:05.:36:12.

Just the other day, he came from two sets to love down. He needs to do it

:36:13.:36:25.

again. Since Jock which went out, there is an intensity about Federer,

:36:26.:36:31.

Andy Murray. The great nemesis has gone. He hasn't won one since 2012

:36:32.:36:41.

year, so it has been a while. The man who beat him in the last two

:36:42.:36:49.

finals is not here any more. Once again, it falls to Milos Raonic to

:36:50.:36:55.

fire down the service and stay in this set.

:36:56.:37:18.

Raonic taking those balls in the air, attacking, swinging Valles, but

:37:19.:37:23.

really keeping the pressure on Federer.

:37:24.:38:03.

No trouble at all. In this service came from Milos Raonic it is

:38:04.:38:54.

tie-break time. Milos Raonic is well used to tie-breaks. He has played

:38:55.:38:59.

25, has won 20 of his tie-breaks. Ed Birks is sitting in the box.

:39:00.:39:20.

Everyone around us -- everyone else encouraging Federer to use his

:39:21.:39:24.

skills with the racket. Not an easy volley to hit. Well handled.

:39:25.:40:04.

Nobody blinking yet in this tie-break.

:40:05.:40:36.

Hard to be a coach. Who would be a coach?

:40:37.:41:02.

Went for the forehand on some huge occasions, has to be ready for that.

:41:03.:41:12.

He caught it late, the tension mounting.

:41:13.:42:17.

A dominant point by Raonic. That forehand really well, that short

:42:18.:42:30.

outside angle. Tough to read and tough to handle.

:42:31.:42:39.

You could tell by Federer's inability to get it back into the

:42:40.:42:43.

court. Oh, double fault number six. It

:42:44.:43:23.

might be the most costly. CHEERING

:43:24.:43:33.

They will him on. CHEERING

:43:34.:44:12.

Federer on the brink of levelling things here on Centre Court.

:44:13.:44:56.

It is one set piece in this semifinal. Federer hits back.

:44:57.:45:11.

The legendary stat is that the players have respect for this guy.

:45:12.:45:29.

This guy is able to keep his composure, his belief. You are the

:45:30.:45:37.

one that feels more stressed, feel like you have to go for a bit extra.

:45:38.:45:41.

Like he did at 3-3 when he tried to go bigger on the serve. Serving this

:45:42.:45:53.

was 145 mph. Opportunities where he didn't get returns in play. He had

:45:54.:46:00.

worked so hard, Raonic, to get himself in that position at 4-5. A

:46:01.:46:09.

couple of pretty good looks, but you have to hand it to this guy. The

:46:10.:46:18.

first serve of Raonic in that game, then in the tie-break, there was

:46:19.:46:21.

that double fault. Just faltering a bit on his serve but the numbers

:46:22.:46:25.

there for you from the second set. We expected this match to be close,

:46:26.:46:37.

no question. I will say the same thing I said when it was 6-3, 5-4.

:46:38.:46:46.

If you would have said it would be one set each, given what happened a

:46:47.:46:52.

couple of years ago, it would not be ideal, but acceptable. That is what

:46:53.:46:57.

he has to keep telling himself. More winners from Raonic, but only two

:46:58.:47:02.

unforced errors from Federer in that set. They have both headed off for a

:47:03.:47:10.

break. Federer started to move a bit better towards the end of that.

:47:11.:47:15.

Raonic, the nerves perhaps slowed a little. There has to be a direct

:47:16.:47:23.

connection with the opportunity that presented itself. The forecast was

:47:24.:47:28.

OK for today, slightly threatening clouds. Robert Federer with his

:47:29.:47:42.

wife. Robert and Lynette here today. It is almost like a given that

:47:43.:47:47.

whoever loses a set of that magnitude in a situation like this

:47:48.:47:51.

goes off. Whether it is a bathroom break or changing clothes. A bit too

:47:52.:47:59.

long and too crazy over the years for my liking. Splash a bit of water

:48:00.:48:04.

on your face, give yourself a talking to, as Murray did against

:48:05.:48:10.

Jock pitch in the US Open final. -- against Novak Djokovic. He is back

:48:11.:48:22.

with us and we wait for Raonic. A glance to the clouds above, as well.

:48:23.:48:29.

A buzz around Centre Court. A greater buzz now, obviously. Just

:48:30.:48:34.

with Federer coming back in, because he carries the bulk of the support.

:48:35.:48:40.

The great, great player, he is always going to have most of the

:48:41.:48:44.

support and they want to see him in another final. Ten is not enough.

:48:45.:48:50.

You have to admire how Raonic has played, just until the end of that

:48:51.:48:55.

set. He has been so composed looking and will have learned from that

:48:56.:48:58.

semifinal a couple of years ago and will continue to make progress. He

:48:59.:49:04.

has taken time. He has been imposing himself when necessary. Roger

:49:05.:49:15.

Federer, hands on hips, waiting. I understand his perplexed look that

:49:16.:49:20.

it is taking this long. He is locked in there, somewhere. He has left his

:49:21.:49:30.

credentials out here. May be a default, so Roger gets it. There

:49:31.:49:34.

will come a point where there may be an intervention. Federer is now

:49:35.:49:48.

furrowing his brow as never before. There's going to be a big cheer when

:49:49.:49:54.

he comes back out, Milos Raonic. If anything, it will be the opposite. A

:49:55.:50:02.

big noise. Let's see. APPLAUSE CHEERING

:50:03.:50:14.

A smattering of applause. He needs a note from his mother. Already best

:50:15.:50:23.

of three now. With Milos, I'd cut out the water, because this guy is

:50:24.:50:32.

probably a bit edgy up in the chair. That's what may have caused the

:50:33.:50:39.

bathroom break in the first place! 'S trainer trying to pump him up,

:50:40.:50:41.

get him back on track. You definitely sends a momentum

:50:42.:51:10.

shift -- sense. A much bigger game for Raonic as it

:51:11.:51:32.

is for Federer. He needs to establish himself and get the lead

:51:33.:51:34.

here. It needs more of that because it

:51:35.:51:51.

certainly dropped his first serve percentage in the second set.

:51:52.:52:08.

There is an element of fear in the call of fault.

:52:09.:52:38.

Near enough and ideal start to the third set for Raonic.

:52:39.:52:52.

That was a pretty solid start for the Canadian. Both guys battling

:52:53.:53:05.

hard. Raonic trying to get a grand slam final for the first time in his

:53:06.:53:12.

life. Federer trying to get that one more grand slam, number 18.

:53:13.:53:34.

Would he consider quitting if he were to win a slam, the weight Pete

:53:35.:53:42.

Sampras did? 2002 to win 14, he thought that record would hold for a

:53:43.:53:48.

while. Little did he know that Federer, Rafa Nadal, they have tied

:53:49.:53:49.

him. That's a great reach from Raonic and

:53:50.:54:14.

a slight opening here in Federer's first service game in this set.

:54:15.:54:23.

Federer desperately wanted that ball to go lower.

:54:24.:54:28.

CHEERING That want to works for Federer.

:54:29.:54:52.

Wasn't a bad return from Raonic. A good effort by Federer there from

:54:53.:55:08.

0-30. How often have we seen that? The point here, a shot there, Raonic

:55:09.:55:56.

thinking he could do more than that 0-30 return. So finally balanced.

:55:57.:56:14.

Trying to did it out of his feet, Raonic. The return was too good. You

:56:15.:56:22.

have to assume it is coming back, he didn't look ready to hit that. I

:56:23.:56:28.

guess with him, he so often hits unreturnable is. -- unreturnables or

:56:29.:56:36.

aces. Proud parents, obviously, in both

:56:37.:57:22.

boxes. UMPIRE: Let, first serve. Robert Federer is aware that his son

:57:23.:58:00.

has ten Wimbledon finals. An extraordinary record. When he gets

:58:01.:58:02.

to semifinals, he gets to finals. Another mightily strong serve again

:58:03.:58:16.

from Milos Raonic. Just over 90 minutes played and so

:58:17.:58:46.

little between the two. Both guys have plenty of reason to feel good

:58:47.:58:49.

about where they are at at this stage. Federer, I don't think,

:58:50.:58:56.

surprisingly, was a bit stiff, perhaps. The body not getting going

:58:57.:59:00.

for a while cost him early in this match. Somewhat an exploitable game

:59:01.:59:07.

to lose serve, especially from 30-0 up. How often does that happen? And

:59:08.:59:13.

very rarely. Milos Raonic took advantage but Federer willed himself

:59:14.:59:21.

as he did. Raonic battled hard to save those four set points. Get to a

:59:22.:59:26.

tie-break. It looked like he had a real shot. He blinked, Federer was

:59:27.:59:33.

there. Milos Raonic looks so composed, and on most days. He used

:59:34.:59:38.

to have a fierce temper as a junior, Federer himself was. He used to be

:59:39.:59:45.

very calm. Now he is heading in the opposite direction.

:59:46.:00:01.

I don't know if he caught it or not, but there was some applause. Big

:00:02.:01:12.

moment. Quick pace here in this match.

:01:13.:01:44.

They're not wasting any time, these two.

:01:45.:01:53.

Nine of 14 for Federer, so far. Not been to the net as frequently as I

:01:54.:02:03.

would have thought. See if that changes.

:02:04.:02:13.

Wild! A long way wide. Talked about the reality of double faults in the

:02:14.:02:27.

Federer game. -- the rarity of double faults. A couple in this

:02:28.:02:31.

match. Oh! It was there for him. Raonic did a beautiful job of that

:02:32.:02:53.

running slice. Still he thought he had a break point.

:02:54.:03:06.

Too strong from Milos Raonic. I think he would prefer to see that

:03:07.:03:17.

top-spin than the slice. This ball sits up perfectly for Raonic, right

:03:18.:03:20.

in his strike zone. Trying to get that slice to stay

:03:21.:03:38.

down below his knees, if he can. He tries that serve so often out there,

:03:39.:03:44.

you've got to be ready for that. That was only 101 mph.

:03:45.:03:47.

Brilliant. Great hold from Federer. APPLAUSE

:03:48.:04:01.

Just enough encouraging signs from Milos Raonic but Federer doing

:04:02.:04:12.

enough again with this combination. When he first struck that ball, you

:04:13.:04:17.

see it, it's so high above the net you think it's what to go long. It's

:04:18.:04:24.

strange today, the speed at which the players swing at the ball it

:04:25.:04:28.

just drops miraculously, if you are Federer, just inside the baseline.

:04:29.:05:00.

This is the only way he could have won that point. Just barely missed

:05:01.:05:24.

it. APPLAUSE

:05:25.:07:08.

Oh! With a second serve straight down the middle. Raonic holds.

:07:09.:07:21.

He hasn't lost at this Championships yet. He's got the ball on a string.

:07:22.:07:30.

He's picked his moment. Getting fired up, these two. It's a searing

:07:31.:07:39.

shot. He is truly one of the greatest players ever. That may very

:07:40.:07:45.

well do it! They thoroughly deserved their place in the showpiece event.

:07:46.:07:51.

What a Super Sunday of sport that will be. The Wimbledon final on BBC

:07:52.:07:59.

One at 1pm. The Euros final, France versus Portugal, Devon PM on BBC

:08:00.:08:04.

One. What a day to look forward to. -- 7pm.

:08:05.:08:07.

COMMENTATOR: Plenty of bars in here. A finely poised match. -- plenty of

:08:08.:08:19.

buzz. Andy Murray against Tomas Berdych to come. Will it be a first

:08:20.:08:25.

Grand Slam final for this man, Milos Raonic?

:08:26.:08:31.

Giving himself every opportunity. Federer serving at 2-3.

:08:32.:09:10.

Well, Federer returning the favour. Wait a second! When was that photo

:09:11.:09:20.

taken? Is that Halloween? Please tell me they're not selling that!

:09:21.:09:38.

APPLAUSE Well, we haven't had a hold to love

:09:39.:09:43.

for some time, for Federer. As we suspected, not a huge number

:09:44.:09:52.

of elongated rallies. ' unlucky for Raonic there, it

:09:53.:10:19.

clipped the tape. Ran into the net well and finished

:10:20.:11:02.

off beautifully. Extremely difficult to lob from that position, so allows

:11:03.:11:07.

Raonic to get closer to the net. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:11:08.:12:04.

Is a masterstroke again from Federer. They stand for him now, two

:12:05.:12:09.

break points. In the last set he was able to save

:12:10.:12:26.

four break points, Raonic. He has to do so again here.

:12:27.:12:30.

Is out! Federer strikes first in this first set. He has the break.

:12:31.:13:17.

Raonic, for the first time, just a little bit loose.

:13:18.:13:26.

It just shows you, when you play a guy this good, you've got to keep

:13:27.:13:35.

your intensity high the whole way, you can't afford any slip-ups. He

:13:36.:13:41.

gave Federer time to hit that forehand again. He felt anxiety to

:13:42.:13:49.

make something happen, and delivered a total mis-hit. Again, a double

:13:50.:13:53.

fault in there, which made it seven from Raonic. He was averaging three

:13:54.:14:00.

a match coming into this one. Again, when you have Roger Federer on the

:14:01.:14:03.

other side of the net, it just does things to you. Have you just chase

:14:04.:14:07.

it a bit more or you certainly feel a bit tighter. -- perhaps you just

:14:08.:14:18.

chase it. It's the first time he's lost... It's not like Federer is

:14:19.:14:27.

blowing him off the court on the return. Well, Raonic is going to

:14:28.:14:30.

have to find something to find a way back into this. Third set, Federer

:14:31.:14:33.

with the break. APPLAUSE

:14:34.:15:24.

He did everything asked of him there, Raonic, until the final

:15:25.:15:30.

moment. That volley was a direct result of the last game.

:15:31.:15:52.

APPLAUSE Raonic needs a response now, because

:15:53.:16:03.

he is looking slightly wayward and, again, chatting away to himself.

:16:04.:16:14.

APPLAUSE Federer moves on and moves closer to

:16:15.:16:20.

a two sets to one lead. You just sense that when a guy

:16:21.:16:39.

starts to give a bit, as Raonic has just done...

:16:40.:16:48.

UMPIRE: Mr Federer is challenging the call on the left service line.

:16:49.:16:53.

The ball was called in. Not a great history with challenges,

:16:54.:16:58.

Federer. That continues. UMPIRE: Mr Federer is challenging

:16:59.:18:43.

the call on the left service line. The ball was called in. It might be

:18:44.:18:50.

a hold of serve. Depends on the result of this challenge. Just good

:18:51.:18:57.

enough. It might count for very little in a few moments's time.

:18:58.:19:03.

Federer will still serve for the set but at least Raonic again asks the

:19:04.:19:11.

question. If you were to put your coach's hat on and go out there and

:19:12.:19:17.

speak to Raonic, if the rules changed, what would you say as his

:19:18.:19:21.

level has dropped slightly? Well, it seems a bit surprising but a couple

:19:22.:19:28.

of things I've seen from Federer like his tendencies on serve, which

:19:29.:19:31.

I think he should have been expecting, but of course it's easy

:19:32.:19:36.

to be the back-seat driver. "Well, You should do this". I've been

:19:37.:19:41.

fortunate enough to be on this court many times playing and it's a whole

:19:42.:19:45.

lot tougher when you're playing someone this great. This is arguably

:19:46.:19:48.

the greatest player that's ever lived, desperately trying to win one

:19:49.:19:58.

more major. You can feel it is, the people watching can feel it, and

:19:59.:20:02.

that can get to anyone. Dan Evans spoke of how he would try to push

:20:03.:20:07.

Federer hard and when he got there and Federer was on the other side of

:20:08.:20:11.

the neck his body and his mind went missing for a while. Raonic

:20:12.:20:13.

certainly has the ability. After mis-hitting returns like that,

:20:14.:20:40.

play it safe to the centre of the court. Hit it with the same

:20:41.:20:43.

authority. UMPIRE: Mr Raonic is challenging the

:20:44.:20:55.

call on the left baseline. He probably knew the challenge

:20:56.:20:59.

acrobatics baseball was going out, so good challenge from Raonic. -- he

:21:00.:21:06.

probably knew that the ball was going out, so good challenge. Yes.

:21:07.:21:15.

He plays so fast too, Federer. He is into a rhythm now and he moves to

:21:16.:21:22.

three set points. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:21:23.:21:36.

He leaves on Centre Court in this semifinal, from a set down to two

:21:37.:21:38.

sets to one. The tie-break in the second set

:21:39.:21:59.

could have been much closer, but Federer in control now.

:22:00.:22:14.

Come on Andy! Come on Andy! Come on Andy!

:22:15.:22:24.

COMMENTATOR: You got a guy like that... You follow.

:22:25.:22:30.

STUDIO And when the match is completed on

:22:31.:22:35.

Centre Court, no doubt we will hear a little more of that "Come on,

:22:36.:22:42.

Andy!" He is second on centre, taking on Tomas Berdych. Back we go

:22:43.:22:48.

to set number one. What a way to take the second set from Federer. He

:22:49.:22:56.

is one set away from his third consecutive Wimbledon final, his

:22:57.:23:04.

11th in all. There could still be a way back for Milos Raonic, the way

:23:05.:23:08.

he played in the first set. But it is Federer looking to take his step

:23:09.:23:14.

to the final, a possible 18th Grand Slam title. Didn't this guy have

:23:15.:23:20.

surgery? Ms the French Open and have a lot of rest? Not this guy!

:23:21.:23:24.

LAUGHTER Federer did Ms the French Open. --

:23:25.:23:29.

did miss. We're going to find out what Raonic

:23:30.:23:34.

is made of. A long look from Federer to the

:23:35.:23:42.

umpire. Persuaded not to challenge. Well, the ideal start to set number

:23:43.:24:50.

four, for Raonic. If I were Raonic, I would try to slow things down.

:24:51.:24:54.

It's really being played at Federer's rhythm. Going so fast,

:24:55.:25:04.

your mind can fog up a bit trying to figure out what to do to get back.

:25:05.:25:11.

Need to take advantage of every second he's on this court. He

:25:12.:25:15.

certainly hasn't been out there as often as Federer.

:25:16.:25:24.

Hitting that wide serve to his backhand. To me, rip it up the line.

:25:25.:25:32.

Once Federer does get into his rhythm, as you say, you have to play

:25:33.:25:40.

at a server's speed, maybe an extra dab of a towel or two. He's on roll

:25:41.:25:44.

now. So, something to behold now from

:25:45.:26:02.

Federer. They hold to love from Raonic and then that one from

:26:03.:26:13.

Federer, moving swiftly along. -- a hold. He was through that game in

:26:14.:26:20.

about a minute. He's played more service games when he is held in a

:26:21.:26:24.

minute or less than anyone, by far. -- when he has held in a minute or

:26:25.:26:27.

less. He is getting better as time goes

:26:28.:26:38.

on, not worse. Raonic with the new balls.

:26:39.:26:44.

The server is having a field day so far in this third set.

:26:45.:27:59.

APPLAUSE Normal service resumed.

:28:00.:28:34.

APPLAUSE Another emphatic hold of serve from

:28:35.:28:42.

Milos Raonic. A determined look about him again.

:28:43.:28:51.

He must still believe that this can be done, and of course it can.

:28:52.:29:01.

This has not been an exceptionally physical match. Not a lot of long

:29:02.:29:15.

rallies, as anticipated. This Swiss Davis Cup captain, bottom left, has

:29:16.:29:19.

been with Federer for some time. Ivan Ljubicic should and then his

:29:20.:29:24.

video alongside him. His fitness trainer is not there. One of the

:29:25.:29:29.

great things to admire about Federer is his fitness and how robust he has

:29:30.:29:33.

been throughout his career. Just starting to show some signs of

:29:34.:29:39.

frailty. Yeah, exactly, mortality! But he really has been an example in

:29:40.:29:45.

terms of his longevity. He has put his body through the mill but he has

:29:46.:29:49.

been a tremendous athlete for so long. Stefan Edberg no longer

:29:50.:29:53.

working with him as a coach but still here admiring, with so many

:29:54.:29:59.

others. A good friend of Federer's. It seems like when he moves he is

:30:00.:30:03.

just floating about the court. Took one in the side, handled it

:30:04.:30:22.

well. Trying desperately to make some type

:30:23.:30:43.

of impact on Federer's serve, Milos. The unforced error numbers are

:30:44.:30:57.

massively in Federer's favour. As you said, getting stronger as

:30:58.:31:27.

this match goes on, Federer. UMPIRE: Mr Rennick is challenging a

:31:28.:31:58.

call on the left baseline. The ball was called in.

:31:59.:32:06.

His eyes deceived him. Federer holds.

:32:07.:32:20.

UMPIRE: Mr Raonic has two challenges remaining.

:32:21.:32:38.

Relying increasingly on the serve will

:32:39.:33:01.

Wonderfully done by Raonic. The crowd gasped at the return from

:33:02.:33:05.

Federer. And again, the return whistles back

:33:06.:34:10.

from the racket of Federer. A risky move to hit a serve like

:34:11.:34:26.

that with his forehand. You are asking for trouble.

:34:27.:34:39.

That is wide. Deep trouble now for Milos Raonic. Federer goes from

:34:40.:34:45.

strength to strength. Hasn't taken many, but two chances

:34:46.:34:54.

here. Just that slight lift in case from

:34:55.:35:18.

Raonic. Just a bit more worried. Still one break point to see off.

:35:19.:35:27.

Raonic stands firm again. Expected that Federer would hit a slice

:35:28.:36:02.

across court. He couldn't get it there, but to hit a beautiful shot.

:36:03.:36:15.

That serve to the body again, though, working well.

:36:16.:36:49.

APPLAUSE Such depth fan Federer -- from

:36:50.:36:57.

Federer. There it is a game. Not even Federer

:36:58.:37:20.

can chase that one down. When he hit your volley, you don't

:37:21.:37:41.

have to go too much. Not even with Federer. He had a lot of court to

:37:42.:37:42.

work with. He's thinking he had to hit it

:37:43.:37:58.

harder, closer to the line. Not on that one.

:37:59.:38:08.

What a hold. What a hard-working hold again for Milos Raonic. So, so

:38:09.:38:16.

important. Two break points stared down. Big opportunity for Federer.

:38:17.:38:26.

Just when all momentum seemed to be moving with him, his level had

:38:27.:38:30.

lifted, but he couldn't quite complete the job there.

:38:31.:38:36.

Raonic, we saw his family and friends and coaching staff urging

:38:37.:38:44.

him on in this game. He responded so well.

:38:45.:38:58.

At the least he gets a couple of cents for that? A couple of dollars?

:38:59.:39:14.

At that moment, he was rushing, hyped up. He was having a hard time

:39:15.:39:21.

thinking clearly, but he ended up with a big, big forehand when he

:39:22.:39:28.

desperately needed it. Federer has been near-perfect on the serve so

:39:29.:39:29.

far in this set. It is long. Creeping into the net

:39:30.:40:19.

again. Absolutely the right play to keep the pressure on Federer.

:40:20.:40:41.

Beautifully done by Raonic. Hit his slice just low enough.

:40:42.:40:58.

Below the net, a beautiful stroke there.

:40:59.:41:29.

Can't quite match Raonic four aces, -- four aces.

:41:30.:42:14.

Best game that Raonic has had off the return in quite a while. There

:42:15.:42:18.

he goes again, though. APPLAUSE

:42:19.:42:32.

It was a fault. Not as convincing as his previous

:42:33.:43:02.

service games. You have to be disciplined when you

:43:03.:44:09.

play Federer. He was way, way behind the baseline.

:44:10.:44:25.

Once again, Federer senses the opportunity.

:44:26.:44:55.

That serve came down at one for four miles per hour. -- 100 44 mph. He

:44:56.:45:05.

needed a good forehand to get out of that point.

:45:06.:45:35.

It seems like he has found a second wind but is also jacked up right

:45:36.:46:21.

now. So tense. An extremely dicey moment for him.

:46:22.:46:39.

UMPIRE: Mr Federer is a call the left service line. The ball was

:46:40.:46:52.

called in. It is out. By some distance.

:46:53.:47:05.

Well done to Federer for even getting that point.

:47:06.:47:29.

He is hanging in well at the moment, Raonic. It does feel like that at

:47:30.:47:36.

times. His father leads the applause. Just a few more

:47:37.:47:44.

opportunities seem to be arising for Federer more than for the Canadian.

:47:45.:47:50.

He played his best return game for quite awhile the last time. It is

:47:51.:47:57.

looking up for him in that sense. I feel he is playing with more energy,

:47:58.:48:01.

but he's got to control his aggression a bit better. Federer is

:48:02.:48:10.

so eager all the time. Just flicks a bit of hair raises an eyebrow.

:48:11.:48:14.

Because he has been here so many times before, this is his comfort

:48:15.:48:20.

zone. It is hard to be comfortable here, but he does a magnificent job.

:48:21.:48:30.

There will certainly be tension for Federer, even though it doesn't

:48:31.:48:34.

show. An 18th Grand Slam title at stake here. Novak Djokovic left the

:48:35.:48:43.

stage earlier, so the chance has certainly increased.

:48:44.:49:18.

Got to harness his energy. He has to focus on using it on putting a bit

:49:19.:49:27.

more on the return. A very different Federer to the one

:49:28.:49:42.

we saw in the first set. More on first error. His serve wasn't so

:49:43.:49:43.

potent. It's right on the line. Played

:49:44.:50:23.

around the net for a moment in that rally.

:50:24.:50:32.

Still Federer making hit that extra shot. -- made him hit.

:50:33.:50:48.

Raonic has to be disciplined and maybe play a safer ball to the

:50:49.:51:05.

centre of the court. Must have more margin than he did on that.

:51:06.:51:41.

That was the first ball where he really changed things up. Used his

:51:42.:51:51.

kick to his advantage. He has got to keep mixing up his serves.

:51:52.:51:59.

Even at these crazy speeds he's heating at. -- hitting.

:52:00.:52:18.

APPLAUSE Come on! A come on from Federer.

:52:19.:52:53.

CHEERING Presence at the net from Federer.

:52:54.:53:08.

He didn't see that coming, he snuck in on him. That was beautiful play.

:53:09.:53:14.

Tension increases. CHEERING

:53:15.:54:20.

It is long and here is the moment, the opportunity for Federer.

:54:21.:54:29.

Milos Raonic has withstood some pressure, some break points in this

:54:30.:54:33.

match. APPLAUSE

:54:34.:54:42.

What a serve under that pressure. Trying to scuttle round onto the

:54:43.:55:08.

forehand. Two powerful this time from Raonic.

:55:09.:56:43.

He has had some absolutely tremendous body serves. Federer

:56:44.:56:47.

doing a good job gain of fighting it off.

:56:48.:56:59.

So, so impressive from Milos Raonic. Weathers the storm on this occasion.

:57:00.:57:09.

He'll be looking for sanctuary in the tie-break, perhaps. What an

:57:10.:57:15.

opportunity that was for Roger Federer. Again, whenever he has been

:57:16.:57:22.

put under the pressure, he has responded well. My goodness, he has

:57:23.:57:29.

had to see off some break points. He is playing perhaps the greatest

:57:30.:57:32.

player that ever lived and he has risen to the occasion for the most

:57:33.:57:37.

part. He has played well, served really big. You have to serve big.

:57:38.:57:43.

You could feel the tension. It was so quiet in here. They are

:57:44.:57:48.

anticipating that Federer break. This young man, this Canadian. He

:57:49.:57:55.

moved there from Montenegro when he was young. Not surprising to see

:57:56.:57:58.

these type of numbers with his serve. He has fought hard. Federer

:57:59.:58:04.

has gotten better and better as this much has gone on. Seems to have more

:58:05.:58:10.

energy than he has had for quite a while. Hopefully you can use that to

:58:11.:58:14.

his advantage. Federer is just amazing.

:58:15.:58:21.

Even the greatest will feel the tension.

:58:22.:58:30.

Novak Djokovic and Murray are the ones for the return. You can see how

:58:31.:59:22.

well the return sets up the deep ball.

:59:23.:59:30.

UMPIRE: Mr Federer is challenging a call on the right line. The ball was

:59:31.:59:34.

called out. Another great return from Raonic. He

:59:35.:59:47.

was ready for it. UMPIRE: Mr Federer has two

:59:48.:59:58.

challenges remaining. The second serve to try and put

:59:59.:00:22.

away, but you have to take these small chances when you get them. It

:00:23.:00:28.

wasn't a small chance - that was a huge chance for him.

:00:29.:00:47.

Flapping his arms and staring to his support group.

:00:48.:01:02.

Well, the umpire steps in, Federer is challenging. The ball was called

:01:03.:01:17.

out. It was called wide, the umpire was wrong, so Federer holds.

:01:18.:01:35.

Again, some encouragement for Raonic that there were moments there where

:01:36.:01:42.

he got a glimpse of things. Both guys did, but that first 15-30, the

:01:43.:01:51.

back and micro, then 30-30, he chose to play safe. -- the backhand.

:01:52.:02:21.

Swatted away by Federer, you can watch the response sail long.

:02:22.:03:04.

Federer strokes it away, and again he is closing in. This is an

:03:05.:03:18.

incredible shot. That is a great get, what a shot

:03:19.:03:47.

from Raonic! Every stroke in that rally was great, including Federer's

:03:48.:03:53.

passing shot. All six was necessary to get to that. -- all 6'5".

:03:54.:04:13.

Again, he is coming up with the answers when put under the cosh,

:04:14.:04:18.

from 0- 30, hauling himself back in. Raonic eventually wears him down and

:04:19.:05:16.

holds, a vital, vital hold. Again, he knows at the very least he will

:05:17.:05:25.

have a tie-break here. This is pretty outstanding stuff from both

:05:26.:05:32.

these guys, stepping it up big time. Raonic answering the bell again

:05:33.:05:37.

here, it was not looking good at 0-30, but he deserves to feel that

:05:38.:05:45.

way, to get that old. I remember a different proposition against a

:05:46.:05:48.

different player, when he came from two sets down against avid coffin,

:05:49.:05:52.

he has got plenty of fighting qualities. -- David coffin. That was

:05:53.:05:58.

in the fourth round. He has never done that, it gives you a new level

:05:59.:06:02.

of confidence and belief that it can be done. A lot harder against this

:06:03.:06:07.

guy, to even come from 2-1 down, than it would be 2-1 against Goffin,

:06:08.:06:15.

that is for sure. He needs to put himself in position to have a

:06:16.:06:20.

chance. There was an opportunity in the previous service game for

:06:21.:06:26.

Raonic. Federer would be taken to a fifth set, as he was against Marin

:06:27.:06:29.

Cilic, when he came from 2-0 down. New balls, serving to stay in the

:06:30.:06:40.

set. Oh, great return, a little help from

:06:41.:07:40.

the net, but brilliant again. The comfort he had was that he knew that

:07:41.:07:43.

he just had to get it into the court, that was a good return by

:07:44.:07:45.

Raonic. Hitting that at 30-30 would have

:07:46.:08:16.

given him a set point in the last game.

:08:17.:08:31.

Only number three in the double fault states from -- stakes from

:08:32.:08:43.

Federer. That is superb, superb from Raonic,

:08:44.:09:36.

what touch! And he takes on soft now to the brink. -- takes himself. Just

:09:37.:09:49.

a few moments ago, it scarcely seemed possible, Federer in control

:09:50.:09:51.

of this game, but set point Raonic. Wow! We have seen the best volley he

:09:52.:10:25.

has hit the entire match and the best return right there. Get the

:10:26.:10:32.

speed gun on that one. Set point once more.

:10:33.:10:46.

Just devoured that second serve, Raonic.

:10:47.:12:18.

Oh, it is wide. Another chance for Raonic.

:12:19.:12:48.

Oh, he has it, into a fifth set we go! Milos Raonic stuns Federer - and

:12:49.:12:57.

most of the Centre Court crowd. We go on.

:12:58.:13:06.

That was an absolutely incredible game by Raonic, he was 40-0 down. He

:13:07.:13:15.

ripped that four when I said, it is easier to do it at 30-30, Federer,

:13:16.:13:21.

amazing, served two doubles in a row. Almost as amazingly he hit the

:13:22.:13:27.

ball right back to him, he is a big guy, not as quick as some of these

:13:28.:13:33.

other guys. I mean, he got a look at a past there. Again, we talked about

:13:34.:13:40.

it, two double fault in the entire championship for Federer, so that

:13:41.:13:44.

was the pressure, the tension in that game. Let's have a look at the

:13:45.:13:49.

stats in that set. Murray fans, stands down for a little while

:13:50.:13:50.

longer. Raonic finally, I felt, he found

:13:51.:14:03.

this extra gear. I'm not even sure he knew he had it. But he was able

:14:04.:14:09.

to weather the storm a couple of times off his serve, but you could

:14:10.:14:12.

feel that his energy was higher. It got to Federer. I always wonder why

:14:13.:14:22.

a guy, Tsonga did the same thing, ... They are looking at Federer's

:14:23.:14:32.

knee, I believe. Talk about a of events.

:14:33.:14:37.

I was just going to finish, sorry, why would a guy, playing a game like

:14:38.:14:46.

that, Tsonga did this against Murray, leave the court? Well,

:14:47.:14:52.

exactly. When you have got this unbelievable momentum. It really

:14:53.:14:54.

makes a difference one way or the other. They say any as camp that

:14:55.:15:00.

Federer is getting his knee looked at, or his leg? He is not going to

:15:01.:15:08.

sit there well Federer gets treatment.

:15:09.:15:17.

As we watch Federer, I wonder how... Dealing with this, as a commentator

:15:18.:15:27.

you call it, but as a coach as well, we see the coaches watching, and it

:15:28.:15:31.

is difficult, you have that had to wear as well, it can't be easy. --

:15:32.:15:46.

hat. I feel extremely fortunate to have a small part of this, these

:15:47.:15:50.

guys are incredible to watch, trying to help a guy reaches potential,

:15:51.:15:54.

that makes it that much more pleasurable. And to watch this guy

:15:55.:15:59.

over the years, I hardly call what I am doing here a job, that is for

:16:00.:16:07.

sure. This has turned out to be quite the... The ATP trainer does a

:16:08.:16:14.

great job for the players, very dependable, a lot of the players

:16:15.:16:20.

have their own people you can see some of those have been Raonic's

:16:21.:16:27.

box, but once the match starts, they are not allowed to work on them

:16:28.:16:32.

anymore. He was allowed to get messages under the pitch, that is a

:16:33.:16:36.

luxury that they had. I am told that Jose Mourinho is here, he is on the

:16:37.:16:46.

ground somewhere. He is here today this was where Raonic to quite a bit

:16:47.:16:49.

of time at the end of the second set. I thought that the crowd might

:16:50.:16:57.

turn on him, they weren't too happy. The momentum daily shifts to

:16:58.:17:00.

Federer. Obviously, most of that have to do with his quality of play,

:17:01.:17:06.

not just waiting five minutes. Here he is now, does he know that Federer

:17:07.:17:15.

has been treated? I doubt it. And bye time. Very interesting, the

:17:16.:17:23.

comparison with Tsonga against Murray, that is absolutely apt,

:17:24.:17:25.

because a lot of people are saying, you have got that momentum, if you

:17:26.:17:36.

do not need to take the break... Had a break point in the first game. So

:17:37.:17:43.

one set for a place in the final of the men's singles.

:17:44.:18:12.

One thing we did see from Raonic, he was getting a little bit quicker

:18:13.:18:47.

under pressure, reboot and go back to his normal pace now.

:18:48.:19:07.

Into double figures on the double faults.

:19:08.:20:12.

That is the first time I have seen him do what he did a number of times

:20:13.:20:18.

earlier, step back, give themselves a bit more time to hit through the

:20:19.:20:20.

second serve. That serve into the body draws a few

:20:21.:20:38.

gasps and brings a service told for Raonic. -- hold. There is always

:20:39.:20:46.

that slight initiative of the advantage, it goes the way of Raonic

:20:47.:20:53.

in this final set. Paddy won the tie-break, it wouldn't have been the

:20:54.:20:59.

case. Pretty important here. -- had he won.

:21:00.:21:04.

So, Federer, how is his fitness and stamina?

:21:05.:21:57.

Amazingly, the two games that Federer has lost serve he was up

:21:58.:22:09.

30-0 and 40-0. It becomes important in the fifth set, if you get to

:22:10.:22:17.

losing your service, you can lose the match. You need to hold serve

:22:18.:22:26.

until the pressure really ramps up, as it did against Roger.

:22:27.:22:35.

That is 140 again, a nod from Carlos Moya, the French over-champions back

:22:36.:22:43.

in 1998. -- French Open. Hard to believe that was a second

:22:44.:24:42.

serve. That was 130, goodness me, nearing three hours, then, on Centre

:24:43.:24:45.

Court, and in the early stages of this deciding set. 144 in the first,

:24:46.:24:59.

just eased back on the throttle to 130. I think he is jacked that he is

:25:00.:25:07.

still at there, he has got a shot at this, he has never been in a Grand

:25:08.:25:14.

Slam, Wimbledon final. Tell us what it feels like to be there, you have

:25:15.:25:18.

got that adrenaline, it is useful, but it is trying to reign it in,

:25:19.:25:23.

control it, channel it. Easier said than done! He has worked extremely

:25:24.:25:31.

hard on and off the court to get himself fit enough, his body

:25:32.:25:35.

resilient enough that he can handle himself in this, so he has got to be

:25:36.:25:39.

feeling good that something kicked in. He did have trouble, he was

:25:40.:25:43.

rushing a little bit, that is understandable when you are playing

:25:44.:25:47.

somebody like Federer. But he was able to sort of stick with it, and

:25:48.:25:51.

that forehand, on break point down, way back when, quite a bit more

:25:52.:26:02.

important. Is there are none the forecast? Is that why we are... --

:26:03.:26:07.

is there rein in the forecast? Again, Milos Raonic waits for time

:26:08.:26:22.

to be called, and then just a couple of moments more. So close to the

:26:23.:26:31.

Australian over-finals this year, lost in five sets in the semifinal

:26:32.:26:37.

to Andy Murray. -- the Australian Open final this year.

:26:38.:27:05.

Before last year, or before last match, he had not played a

:27:06.:27:15.

five-setter in almost a year, he came from two sets down at the US

:27:16.:27:22.

Open, but that cost him the next match against Cilic. I wonder if

:27:23.:27:25.

that will happen today. Trying to pump himself up, because

:27:26.:27:37.

Raonic is doing a good job of taking the crowd out of it, at least

:27:38.:27:39.

temporarily. I really don't know why, I think it

:27:40.:28:29.

was going in either way. It wasn't that long ago we had that

:28:30.:29:03.

wonderful read on serve, Federer - not here now. -- wonderful rhythm.

:29:04.:29:33.

Oh, it is good, Federer down! Raonic has the break point to come. It is

:29:34.:29:44.

not often you see Roger Federer lying prone on Centre Court. I don't

:29:45.:29:52.

know if I've ever seen it, except when he has won the tournament! An

:29:53.:29:54.

amazing point. He is calling the trainer right now.

:29:55.:30:11.

There was nothing in that slip, something gave way. The crowd are

:30:12.:30:16.

chuckling, but this is not good at all.

:30:17.:30:34.

He caught his toe. You can put direct strain on the knee. He says

:30:35.:30:53.

he is OK. This is break point for Raonic. What moments in this matter

:30:54.:31:03.

now. We talked about Federer being in his cockpit zone, he is far from

:31:04.:31:05.

it now. He is fine and fighting now,

:31:06.:31:16.

Federer. Raonic is still fighting, believing

:31:17.:32:39.

that a break can be his. Even more than he had ever believed when he

:32:40.:32:43.

has got a shot at getting to the finals here.

:32:44.:33:09.

And the double fault Demons claim him again. This is the mask of

:33:10.:33:18.

immortality slipping from Federer and another opportunity for Milos

:33:19.:33:19.

Raonic. That is extraordinary from Milos

:33:20.:33:49.

Raonic! He has the break, he has the edge in the deciding set. And what a

:33:50.:33:57.

points to make the breakthrough. That was truly amazing by Raonic.

:33:58.:34:04.

Federer was doing everything possible. Understandably elated.

:34:05.:34:15.

Keep thinking says Carlos Moya. That is a killer, when you just toss

:34:16.:35:03.

in that. And now outlasting Federer in the

:35:04.:37:01.

rallies. Extremely tough angles of that for of Federer. Dasher

:37:02.:37:08.

forehand. And the brake is backed up with a

:37:09.:37:26.

rock-solid service game. They believe and he believes, that again

:37:27.:37:31.

in that fourth set when Roger Federer was playing vintage Roger

:37:32.:37:38.

Federer it did not seem possible. I say possible, but it did not seem

:37:39.:37:42.

likely. It did not seem likely because of Federer had it all going

:37:43.:37:47.

his way. He had a couple of break point chances. There was an

:37:48.:37:52.

extremely difficult forehand that saved Raonic. You could not script

:37:53.:38:00.

this, that it would go on and on. Look at that shot right there. Just

:38:01.:38:08.

an absolutely amazing feeling for this guy, never has been in a Grand

:38:09.:38:15.

Slam final. To see that ball finally go by Federer. He would not mind if

:38:16.:38:26.

he wins this watching the replay of that shot. He is getting stronger

:38:27.:38:37.

now. But Federer is one of the greatest, perhaps the greatest, of

:38:38.:38:38.

all-time. Good also by Raonic again. He is

:38:39.:39:05.

moving better. The energy is certainly with him.

:39:06.:39:30.

Again the return, what a return. Stretched out like a giant wing and

:39:31.:40:03.

beat it back. He is cutting it off, he does a beautiful job again.

:40:04.:40:15.

And Federer has to cling on here. A break down against Raonic is bad

:40:16.:40:23.

enough, two breaks would be farewell.

:40:24.:40:31.

UMPIRE: Mr Federer is challenging the ball on the right line. The ball

:40:32.:40:41.

was called out. I fear for Federer here. Oh, no. A big point.

:40:42.:41:25.

Oh, again, the same shot and the same result.

:41:26.:41:36.

And they will try and lift him, but Federer is staring into the abyss.

:41:37.:42:07.

Again chasing it down, Raonic. A really excellent sliced backhand.

:42:08.:42:23.

This is it if he can win this point. But he does not, Federer once again

:42:24.:42:34.

with the answer. Nearly again, but Federer is digging

:42:35.:42:53.

into all of his reserves. What a huge game, what a huge effort

:42:54.:43:14.

from Roger Federer. He avoids the double break. Hanging on by his

:43:15.:43:18.

fingernails. Time for a change. It will give

:43:19.:43:42.

Raonic a little extra time to think about this.

:43:43.:44:08.

Shocked that a couple of sets ago were coming off. Another excellent

:44:09.:44:39.

volley by Raonic. Mistakes again drawn from Federer.

:44:40.:45:10.

He cuts a rather we reconfigure. -- weary figure.

:45:11.:46:13.

Closer and closer still to his first major final, Milos Raonic. What a

:46:14.:46:30.

mountain to climb for Federer. It has never been closer than this,

:46:31.:46:35.

that has been sure. One Wimbledon semi, one Australian Open semi where

:46:36.:46:47.

he was set away. Now one game from the Wimbledon final. You can do all

:46:48.:46:51.

the coaching in the world and work out how you are going to play a

:46:52.:46:54.

match, but you cannot prepare for these moments because that comes

:46:55.:46:59.

down to nerve and you have to have that within you to remain composed.

:47:00.:47:05.

It is part of why you go through these other experiences and try and

:47:06.:47:09.

learn from the losses so when you are in this position you are better

:47:10.:47:14.

able to handle it. I would like to check his heart rate right now. I am

:47:15.:47:20.

not talking about him, I am talking about Raonic, who has done an

:47:21.:47:23.

exceptional job in this position. Federer, looking less than solid

:47:24.:47:46.

now, serving to stay in the championship.

:47:47.:48:23.

He is thinking about preparing himself for that moment we talked

:48:24.:48:26.

about. Still life in Federer, still

:48:27.:48:49.

glimpses of the old brilliance. And now he will throw everything into

:48:50.:48:56.

this service game of Milos Raonic. Perhaps the biggest service game of

:48:57.:48:57.

Milos Raonic's career. And the swell of noise subsides

:48:58.:49:17.

inside Centre Court. New balls and a chance to serve for a place in the

:49:18.:49:18.

final. And when the pressure has come down

:49:19.:50:11.

and when the moment has been here, Milos Raonic is showing no signs of

:50:12.:50:15.

nerves. Three match points. It is wide! He has it, Raonic goes

:50:16.:50:42.

to his first final. And Federer falls, knocked down, knocked out by

:50:43.:50:50.

Milos Raonic. The dream is over for Federer, that Milos Raonic is

:50:51.:50:53.

through to his first Grand Slam final. It will be here at Wimbledon

:50:54.:50:59.

on Sunday. What moments for him, what a triumph.

:51:00.:51:11.

Think about what that young man has accomplished. He is an amazing

:51:12.:51:22.

champion and to come back from that position... That was really big. The

:51:23.:51:32.

crowd is going to give it up for this seven times champion Andy Fite

:51:33.:51:38.

that Raonic Dave. All Milos Raonic's family and friends and supporters

:51:39.:51:46.

have time to savour. But perhaps the light is fading on this great man's

:51:47.:51:51.

career, Federer. He will be back again to try, I am sure, but not

:51:52.:51:56.

today. But Centre Court loves him still.

:51:57.:52:10.

It is hard to take for a great champion, but Milos Raonic again is

:52:11.:52:20.

through to his first Grand Slam final and it will be here at

:52:21.:52:25.

Wimbledon. He is all smiles and signatures and off to prepare for

:52:26.:52:29.

Sunday. What will you tell him after that performance? Amazing. It was

:52:30.:52:36.

not just his serve commie he showed a lot of heart, he showed a lot of

:52:37.:52:41.

fight. He found another gear which I do not even know he knew he even

:52:42.:52:48.

had. He had some quality shots. Incredible volleys, huge forehands,

:52:49.:52:54.

you name it, he put it all together at the right moment. A proud code in

:52:55.:53:03.

here and it will be Milos Raonic on Sunday against either Andy Murray or

:53:04.:53:07.

Tomas Berdych. No further for Roger Federer. It ends in five sets

:53:08.:53:11.

against Milos Raonic. Let's get the thoughts of the winner.

:53:12.:53:15.

Many congratulations, you are through to the final. Despite your

:53:16.:53:21.

emotions, you have beaten a great champion today. It was an incredible

:53:22.:53:27.

comeback, I was struggling in the third and fourth set, he was playing

:53:28.:53:31.

some good tennis. Just on a little opening and managed to turn it

:53:32.:53:35.

around and finished off a great match. What impact will this have at

:53:36.:53:39.

home? You either first Canadian man to reach a Grand Slam final. It will

:53:40.:53:46.

be a great impact if I can win, so that is what I have to focus on

:53:47.:53:50.

first and hopefully it will have a great impact. Your mother and father

:53:51.:53:55.

are sitting in the box and watching the matches and in the semifinal

:53:56.:54:01.

they look so calm. Yes, they are not. I am sure they will be taking a

:54:02.:54:06.

little nap right now to ease off their emotions. I am sure I will as

:54:07.:54:11.

well. But it is a great feeling to play in my first final. You have a

:54:12.:54:16.

great coaching team and have added John McEnroe to it. What sort of

:54:17.:54:21.

influence has he had? What he told me today, go out there and leave it

:54:22.:54:26.

all out there. I showed a lot of emotion and I was always positive. I

:54:27.:54:32.

had not won my best matches in my history and that is what made the

:54:33.:54:37.

difference. And his experience on final state coming he will give you

:54:38.:54:42.

some nuggets that will help? I hope so. He gave me plenty of help today,

:54:43.:54:47.

so did Carlos, most of them winning slams and playing in a lot of

:54:48.:54:53.

semifinals. Between now and Sunday, how would you handle the emotion?

:54:54.:54:59.

Try to sort of push it down and enjoy the moment and really focus on

:55:00.:55:05.

the task at hand. I am by no means done. It will give me something to

:55:06.:55:10.

keep my eye line on and my site on and I will try to progress. And Andy

:55:11.:55:16.

Murray in the final, if it is him, promises to be an intriguing match.

:55:17.:55:21.

Yes, we played at Queen's a few weeks ago and I told him that I

:55:22.:55:26.

hoped I could get a rematch. But either way, I have but to prepare

:55:27.:55:31.

myself and do the best I can. Well done.

:55:32.:55:36.

Thank you very much. SUE BARKER: It was all Federer towards the end of

:55:37.:55:41.

the fourth set and then Milos Raonic got a sniff of a chance and he took

:55:42.:55:45.

it and on the big serve, the big forehand, it was all working for him

:55:46.:55:49.

and Federer had no answer in the fifth and final set. Maybe that five

:55:50.:55:56.

set match against Marin Cilic did affect him. But you cannot take

:55:57.:56:00.

anything away from Milos Raonic who won the big points and he is through

:56:01.:56:05.

to his first ever Grand Slam final and it is here at Wimbledon. Coach

:56:06.:56:10.

Carlos Moya and John McEnroe will be delighted with their man. He is

:56:11.:56:14.

through to the Wimbledon final on Sunday. So, Centre Court awaits and

:56:15.:56:27.

the hill awaits as well, because next on court Tomas Berdych walks on

:56:28.:56:32.

court to take on Britain's number one, Andy Murray. He is the

:56:33.:56:36.

favourite, the man with the highest ranking in the draw. Before we talk

:56:37.:56:41.

about this match, let's show you his route to the final.

:56:42.:56:52.

Never lost an opening match at Wimbledon, Andy Murray. This could

:56:53.:57:00.

be the first of seven. Job done for Andy Murray in straight sets.

:57:01.:57:09.

That is beautiful. He is a master, but even by his standards that was

:57:10.:57:18.

something special. What a wonderful tennis rally,

:57:19.:57:33.

Murray coming out on top. Smoothly through the first week of this

:57:34.:57:40.

year's Wimbledon. The most eagerly anticipated confrontation of

:57:41.:57:46.

Wimbledon 2016. Nick Kyrgios is really on the ropes now. Clinical

:57:47.:57:53.

and he is a quarterfinalist yet again. He is getting his engine

:57:54.:57:59.

running here. He has not lost a set at this Championships yet. That is

:58:00.:58:07.

why. Murray does the hours. He is not out of this match yet.

:58:08.:58:12.

Extraordinary physical power, we are going the distance on Centre Court.

:58:13.:58:17.

What a return. And that is it. A victory for willpower.

:58:18.:58:26.

SUE BARKER: Murray showing all his competitive spirit saying, I am not

:58:27.:58:30.

going to lose this match. First of all, your reaction to what we saw

:58:31.:58:35.

just now. Roger Federer looked like he was a game away from getting back

:58:36.:58:41.

to the locker in the fourth set. He had a lot of opportunities, but he

:58:42.:58:45.

was not able to get that break and then he played a loose game from

:58:46.:58:51.

40-0 up when it was 5-6 in the fourth set. But Milos Raonic stuck

:58:52.:58:57.

at it and he kept playing big and he passed really well on big, important

:58:58.:59:03.

points. We talked about how would Milos Raonic react in those crucial

:59:04.:59:08.

moments. The answer is very well. As Leighton was saying, when you have

:59:09.:59:13.

got a serve like that, if you have not got a break of serve, it is very

:59:14.:59:19.

difficult. Although Federer was up 2-1, unless he was able to get that

:59:20.:59:24.

break or a tie-break, he was not in control of the match and he played a

:59:25.:59:27.

couple of loose points to suddenly lose the fourth set and then he was

:59:28.:59:33.

behind, serving second in the fifth set. All credit to Milos Raonic who

:59:34.:59:38.

has played incredibly. He played well at Queen's and he has

:59:39.:59:41.

maintained that form at Wimbledon and he will be a threat to who ever

:59:42.:59:46.

he plays in the final. He has got the big serve, but he played some

:59:47.:59:53.

great forehands. I thought he would have hit easy passes, but he had

:59:54.:59:56.

Roger on the full stretch and write to the end he kept playing his game

:59:57.:00:01.

plan and did not sway away from that at all, even after losing the second

:00:02.:00:08.

and third sets. McEnroe was saying, he is not mixing up the serve

:00:09.:00:11.

enough, almost coaching him from the commentary box.

:00:12.:00:15.

What he did well was use the body serve, because Federer, like Murray,

:00:16.:00:22.

is good on the stretch at blocking the ball back, but at 140 mph

:00:23.:00:27.

straight at you, that is difficult to return. His serving has been

:00:28.:00:32.

absolutely amazing, it will be a cornerstone of his game want any

:00:33.:00:36.

sevens, certainly on grass. You know Federer will make no excuses at all,

:00:37.:00:47.

but having the trainer had, maybe the five set match against Cilic was

:00:48.:00:52.

taking a toll. It probably did, he has not played a lot of tennis

:00:53.:00:56.

throughout this year, he pulled out of the French Open, has not played a

:00:57.:01:02.

lot of big matches. There will be questions about how he bounced back

:01:03.:01:05.

from the match against Cilic, that could have been the difference.

:01:06.:01:10.

Losing his first-ever Wimbledon semifinal, and emotional wave as he

:01:11.:01:18.

left court. There were a lot of disappointed fans when we came out,

:01:19.:01:21.

people could not quite believe what they had seen, just assuming that he

:01:22.:01:25.

would get through that match. As is the case after a really long match,

:01:26.:01:30.

a lot of people want to go and get some fresh air, get a jig, go to the

:01:31.:01:35.

bathroom, and Murray coming out. JB match, I hope everyone will get back

:01:36.:01:43.

in quickly. -- coming out for such a big match. There was not much

:01:44.:01:47.

applause at all, they are not wasting any time, here comes Tomas

:01:48.:01:51.

Berdych and Andy Murray. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:01:52.:02:08.

And you just know, Tim, everyone to miss thinking, all he has got to do

:02:09.:02:14.

is beat Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic and he is Wimbledon champion

:02:15.:02:17.

again, it sounds easy! -- everyone at home is thinking.

:02:18.:02:22.

Some were thinking that after Djokovic had lost the tournament, it

:02:23.:02:27.

was his turn to win, but that is the last thing that Andy will be

:02:28.:02:31.

thinking, he understands, as the matches move on, they will get

:02:32.:02:35.

harder, and Tomas Berdych has been a Wimbledon finalist in the past, he

:02:36.:02:39.

has got a big grass court game, he knows he has to perform, and Murray

:02:40.:02:43.

has been playing exceptionally well, and I expect him to come through

:02:44.:02:49.

this. He has also got the belief, he has beaten Federer and Djokovic

:02:50.:02:54.

here. He probably has not been playing his best tennis throughout

:02:55.:02:58.

the year, he had a really nice draw leading through to get to the

:02:59.:03:01.

semifinals as well, but he has such a dangerous game, and he can really

:03:02.:03:07.

push guys, because he generates so much easy power from both the

:03:08.:03:14.

forehand and the backhand. Murray has been protected, playing under

:03:15.:03:18.

the roof on Centre Court, but Tomas has been playing everywhere, in the

:03:19.:03:22.

rain and in the darkness, he has done it the hard way. That first

:03:23.:03:26.

week, if you were not on Centre Court, it was difficult, so many

:03:27.:03:30.

interruptions, having to come and return to complete matches on the

:03:31.:03:38.

second day. The match against Jiri Vesely was really important, they

:03:39.:03:42.

stopped at 2-2, he came back to win the fifth. He will be delighted

:03:43.:03:46.

where he is at right now, he probably comes into this match with

:03:47.:03:50.

much less pressure and expectation and Andy Murray. He is a dangerous

:03:51.:03:55.

player, as we talked about. He played four days in a row, then he

:03:56.:03:59.

played Lucas Pouille, and he will have been pleased to get that done

:04:00.:04:04.

quickly, he has caught up. It was an important win for him, he was meant

:04:05.:04:08.

to win that, the quarterfinal of a slam, not one of the big three or

:04:09.:04:12.

four players for a change. Normally he was the guy who would have to

:04:13.:04:17.

come up against one of the top four guys, always the underdog, so he

:04:18.:04:20.

will enjoy coming out in the semifinals. He is over 30 now, he

:04:21.:04:25.

senses this could be a really big opportunity to make another

:04:26.:04:29.

Wimbledon final, and the possibility of playing Milos Raonic in the final

:04:30.:04:35.

now. When you look at the head Murray has won the last four, Tomas

:04:36.:04:48.

has only won one of one set. Murray has a record of 13-2 against Tsonga,

:04:49.:04:53.

and I was surprised at the success that Murray has got against Berdych,

:04:54.:04:58.

it suggests he can take the racquet out of his hand, he has got such

:04:59.:05:04.

firepower, he serves huge, six foot five, such a keen ball striker, hits

:05:05.:05:08.

it flat, really gets the ball to go through the court. If Murray were to

:05:09.:05:14.

get a little passive, get behind the baseline, that is when Berdych can

:05:15.:05:18.

have an impact. We were talking about the Murray second serve

:05:19.:05:22.

earlier in the programme, how will that be a factor against Tomas?

:05:23.:05:26.

Murray will definitely go after it, I saw it at the Aussie Open, it was

:05:27.:05:33.

an important shot for him, to try to get the initiative on Andy's serve,

:05:34.:05:39.

taking control of the point. Movement, they are so different,

:05:40.:05:42.

Andy moves on so well from the back of the court, but Tomas can get

:05:43.:05:46.

wrong-footed, and on grass court he can get the ball in behind him. Andy

:05:47.:05:51.

will try to get the angles, TPIM on the run the whole time. Very much

:05:52.:06:00.

so, if they take the surface out of the equation, that is where Murray

:06:01.:06:04.

has the advantage, he can keep the ball low against the big man. If he

:06:05.:06:10.

can hit behind him, not so good at changing direction, that is where

:06:11.:06:14.

Murray can have a big impact and probably will prove the difference

:06:15.:06:19.

today. And working with Lendl, coming forward more, not his natural

:06:20.:06:23.

game, he likes to be a counterpuncher, but he is convincing

:06:24.:06:26.

himself to do it for the whole match. He has got to keep backing

:06:27.:06:30.

himself, and he did it well against Tsonga, especially when is an get at

:06:31.:06:34.

his second hand off the racquet and went for the sliced option. -- when

:06:35.:06:40.

Tsonga took. It is something he can do a lot more, but it gets tougher

:06:41.:06:45.

as the tournament goes on, when you play better players who can hit

:06:46.:06:48.

winners from anywhere on the court. The approach has got to be good,

:06:49.:06:52.

because Tomas has got a heavy ball, he can pass. We have seen it in

:06:53.:06:57.

doubles as well, how good a volleyer Andy is. I agree with Lleyton, he

:06:58.:07:04.

can use more, he is very comfortable at the net, he has got good

:07:05.:07:08.

technique, he understands where to move to cover the angles. A lot of

:07:09.:07:11.

the time when it comes to the net, he is coming in behind such good

:07:12.:07:15.

approach shots, so it is definitely an option, and it still works well

:07:16.:07:20.

on a grass court. Although he had a few little runs in his match against

:07:21.:07:25.

Tsonga, he seems more focused, such a great competitor, prove that at

:07:26.:07:29.

the beginning of the fifth set. It was positive energy, and it is great

:07:30.:07:33.

for him to let out some of that frustration but not get overwrought,

:07:34.:07:37.

to not keep it in. If he is using it in the right way, it is a great

:07:38.:07:41.

thing for him, he gets the crowd involved. As we saw at the Olympics

:07:42.:07:45.

and when he won the Wimbledon title, that is when he plays his best

:07:46.:07:49.

tennis. He needs to use the crowd, you used to like doing that. The

:07:50.:07:54.

support he has is fantastic, and in a match of this nature it can put

:07:55.:07:59.

pressure on his opponent. Yeah, Berdych has played here many times

:08:00.:08:03.

before, he has been in the final, but this is Murray's home right now.

:08:04.:08:09.

Berdych is 30, as you say, he hates being one of the better players

:08:10.:08:14.

never to have won a Grand Slam. It is a tough one, because he feels

:08:15.:08:17.

like he has not been able to take that next step and be a dominant

:08:18.:08:22.

force, and you see a guy like Stan Wawrinka come past, and when he won

:08:23.:08:28.

at the Australian Open, he beat Tomas any semifinal, and that could

:08:29.:08:32.

have been his chance to win a first major. He certainly wants to try to

:08:33.:08:39.

one before he finishes his career, and if he can beat Andy Murray, play

:08:40.:08:43.

the match of his life, it opens up for him. What will Lendl have been

:08:44.:08:48.

telling Andy Murray today? He has got to get as many balls back in

:08:49.:08:52.

play as he can off the return of serve, and when he can neutralise

:08:53.:08:55.

the play from the back of the court, he has to make Berdych MOOC. Any

:08:56.:09:00.

time that Berdych is getting his feet planted, that is when he can

:09:01.:09:04.

make life difficult for Murray. If he can get him moving, uses variety,

:09:05.:09:11.

that is where he will have an impact. Get him off balance. As much

:09:12.:09:17.

as possible, and moving forward will be important. Tomas does not defend

:09:18.:09:22.

well, especially out of his backhand corner, he wants to get two hands on

:09:23.:09:27.

his racquet. That is going to be an important play. Put pressure on his

:09:28.:09:31.

second serve as well, sometimes it can get a little shaky in big

:09:32.:09:36.

moments. Lovely watching Ivan and Jayme Doll guard up, as soon as the

:09:37.:09:44.

handshake was gone, he was off! And other important aspect is that it is

:09:45.:09:48.

windy, and Berdych has a very high ball toss, which is not easy to

:09:49.:09:54.

control,. If he is to get second serves, that is where Murray can put

:09:55.:09:58.

pressure on and make him feel how difficult it is to serve. Everyone

:09:59.:10:03.

from the UK is used to blustery conditions! He is one of the best at

:10:04.:10:08.

it. Thank you very much, they are on their way to the commentary box for

:10:09.:10:12.

the semifinal, Milos Raonic is the blue, who will meet him in the

:10:13.:10:17.

final, Murray or Berdych? Over to Andrew Castle.

:10:18.:10:21.

Suit, thank you very much indeed, such a buzz around here after the

:10:22.:10:25.

first semifinal, and now these players will feel, Andy Murray being

:10:26.:10:31.

made to wait after a Federer classic, coming out second best this

:10:32.:10:35.

time, and now Tomas Berdych having a crack at Andy Murray, who has been

:10:36.:10:40.

the favourite for quite some time to win these championships after Sam

:10:41.:10:43.

Querrey defeated Novak Djokovic, the holder of all four Grand Slams.

:10:44.:10:51.

Australia, France, Wimbledon, USA simultaneously. Ivan Lendl has been

:10:52.:10:56.

a captivating story for the British press, Andy Murray announcing the

:10:57.:11:02.

Irvin land as his coach once again the day before Queen's Club. -- and

:11:03.:11:13.

housing Ivan Lendl. He was tested against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, emerging

:11:14.:11:19.

into the semifinal to play Tomas Berdych. Approaching five o'clock,

:11:20.:11:23.

then, Friday evening, I hope you have had a great week, settle down

:11:24.:11:27.

with us and enjoy this semifinal at Wimbledon!

:11:28.:11:37.

First set, Andy Murray to serve. Ready? Play.

:11:38.:13:03.

The Speaker of the House on the left, John Bercow, a decent tennis

:13:04.:13:08.

player, Essex number one in his youth.

:13:09.:15:04.

So, gentlemen, the most pressing question is, how do we say Berdych?

:15:05.:15:11.

We have to be united on this! I have asked him how to say it, but I think

:15:12.:15:21.

it may be beyond us! Berdych? Berdych. Sounds good. Berdych?

:15:22.:15:30.

Berdych, done! Thomas Toure to serve! -- Tomas to serve! There we

:15:31.:15:44.

go, backed up by the Brazilian presence in the chair.

:15:45.:16:26.

For me, that is a classic point, that is what makes Andy Murray so

:16:27.:16:33.

good. We have already seen, three times in the first two games, he has

:16:34.:16:38.

gone for almost a sliced continental forehand, getting that one extra

:16:39.:16:41.

shot back, the wind playing a little bit of havoc for Berdych, Andy with

:16:42.:16:46.

a real opportunity early here. I think it also emphasised the

:16:47.:16:59.

difference in movement, Murray so good on the stretch, on the run,

:17:00.:17:04.

using his hand skills, whereas Berdych was struggling to change

:17:05.:17:05.

direction. Page one of the Berdych playbook,

:17:06.:18:16.

anything short, anything in the middle of the court, surely it will

:18:17.:18:20.

get the treatment. Second break point.

:18:21.:18:42.

And that is pressure telling, first break of serve, a 28th break in a

:18:43.:18:53.

tournament for Andy Murray. He does exert pressure. Carrying on where he

:18:54.:19:00.

left off in Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in that classic quarterfinal on

:19:01.:19:01.

Wednesday evening. 2-0. You can see how dangerous Berdych is

:19:02.:19:29.

when he gets time and he is set, both forehand and backhand he

:19:30.:19:33.

generates such easy power. Comfortable moving forward as well.

:19:34.:21:43.

One-way traffic so far, Andy Murray winning the big points in this match

:21:44.:21:50.

so far, early days. Hits its flat, doesn't he, Berdych?

:21:51.:22:37.

Comes through the court. Did well to stay in that rally, Murray was

:22:38.:22:40.

dictating play, he slipped at one stage, but Tomas Berdych...

:22:41.:23:05.

Too big, too deep. Powerful groundstrokes from the back of the

:23:06.:23:15.

court, great footwork to get in position to hit the off forehand,

:23:16.:23:21.

just inches inside the baseline. Giving himself a break point. 101

:23:22.:23:30.

mph on the forehand. I struggle to serve that fast!

:23:31.:23:48.

Well done, Tomas Berdych, from the Czech Republic, really well done,

:23:49.:23:59.

because he was looking like a goner quite early in this set, hung in and

:24:00.:24:05.

won it. The trouble is, you have got to hold serve against Andy Murray,

:24:06.:24:09.

and you know when you go out there, it is not going to be easy. I have

:24:10.:24:13.

got a graphic, I know you cannot reduce tennis matches to stats, but

:24:14.:24:19.

cast your eye over this. Down the right-hand side, the four

:24:20.:24:23.

semifinalists, return starts coming into the semifinals. We know Roger

:24:24.:24:30.

has now gone. Second return points won, on the second serve, 65% for

:24:31.:24:36.

Murray, unbelievable. Those numbers don't surprise me at all, the two

:24:37.:24:42.

best returners in the world, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, so out of

:24:43.:24:45.

the four left in the semifinals, that is one of his biggest

:24:46.:24:49.

strengths, making guys play that extra ball.

:24:50.:24:55.

But he will be very disappointed to have lost the initiative when he had

:24:56.:25:01.

it. That is right, Murray was often a fast starter, coming out, timing

:25:02.:25:06.

the ball well. As you rightly said, all credits to Berdych, he was

:25:07.:25:11.

nearly down 3-0, which would not have been the ideal start, but

:25:12.:25:15.

played a couple of impressive points, back on serve. But certainly

:25:16.:25:20.

early days. The crowd filtering back in after the first semifinal. They

:25:21.:25:27.

will do that over the first two or three service games, a very light

:25:28.:25:30.

refreshment for a Friday evening, the lady there! -- very large. Two

:25:31.:25:38.

breaks in the first three games. And and Martin, Tomas Berdych's

:25:39.:26:42.

parents. -- Hannah. He is a former train engineer, she is a doctor.

:26:43.:26:58.

Very nice. Not something that he is known for, great touch. He is moving

:26:59.:27:10.

forward extremely well so far, both boys have started extremely well

:27:11.:27:13.

here, some heavy hitting from the back of the court, but took the

:27:14.:27:17.

initiative, moving forward, playing a great volley, soft hands to play

:27:18.:27:19.

from well below the net. Wow... There you go, there is Tomas

:27:20.:27:42.

Berdych in action right there, bang, bang.

:27:43.:29:11.

A model of consistency over the years, Tomas Berdych from the Czech

:29:12.:29:18.

Republic, 30 years of age, ranked number nine, number four last year.

:29:19.:29:25.

His year end rankings, six, seven, six, seven, seven, six. Is this the

:29:26.:29:30.

Wimbledon that he can win? Both of the players' parents are

:29:31.:30:00.

here. The first ace of the match, 18

:30:01.:30:21.

minutes in. He must be so proud of both the

:30:22.:30:45.

boys. Tomas Berdych, breakthrough or not

:30:46.:31:37.

at this stage. In many ways he has been unlucky to have been in this

:31:38.:31:43.

era with Djokovic, Federer and Rafael Nadal. He beat Federer and

:31:44.:31:48.

Djokovic in 2010 at Wimbledon and then Rafael Nadal chewed him up in

:31:49.:31:52.

the final. He looked like, I have got all the way to the final in that

:31:53.:31:58.

match. A model of consistency. He certainly is and as you reflected in

:31:59.:32:03.

his year end ranking he has played in the big event, but there has

:32:04.:32:08.

always been one of the big four to take him out at the latter stages.

:32:09.:32:16.

As both players will be aware, Milos Raonic in the final, it is a huge

:32:17.:32:21.

opportunity. They have both come out here and after 19 minutes of play

:32:22.:32:27.

there is no easing into it, they are hitting Top Gear already and the

:32:28.:32:30.

quality of tennis is there already to be seen. I remember Jimmy Connors

:32:31.:32:35.

reading notes from his mother Gloria out on court. I then maybe a couple

:32:36.:32:43.

of reminders? Yes, and he has done it over the last couple of years.

:32:44.:32:47.

And he did at the change of ends as well. You would have thought he

:32:48.:32:54.

would have a game plan in his mind. Evander Lendl and Delgado would have

:32:55.:32:59.

been through every scenario that could possibly happen when they knew

:33:00.:33:03.

that they would be facing Tomas Berdych. He is a brilliant actor.

:33:04.:33:48.

It is that middle section of the court that Murray cannot drop the

:33:49.:33:57.

ball into, certainly with any pace because Tomas Berdych can really do

:33:58.:33:58.

some damage. This was not a bad play by Andy,

:33:59.:34:45.

trying to bring Berdych forward and take him out of his comfort zone.

:34:46.:34:49.

His hands are not as good as Andy Murray's around the net. He just

:34:50.:34:52.

over a hit that chipped law. One of the great baddies! It is an

:34:53.:36:10.

amazing stage, the Centre Court. They are on their best behaviour at

:36:11.:36:13.

the moment, nothing particularly raucous.

:36:14.:36:29.

Have a look how low Andy Murray stays to hit this pass. Great racket

:36:30.:36:35.

head control. It is noticeable that for the first

:36:36.:37:10.

25 minute of this match how Berdych is not hanging about. He is very

:37:11.:37:12.

happy hitting ground all day long. And in the context of this match,

:37:13.:37:42.

how important do you think the first step is for Berdych? I feel it

:37:43.:37:47.

Murray were to lose it, I could still see the recovery. If Berdych

:37:48.:37:51.

was to lose it, I think it would be an uphill battle.

:37:52.:38:21.

I think you are absolutely spot on, Tim. That is why Andy was so

:38:22.:38:28.

frustrated with himself because he got off to such a good start, having

:38:29.:38:33.

game points to consolidate that early break and there was a lot of

:38:34.:38:37.

positive energy. He let Tomas back into this first set.

:38:38.:38:56.

UMPIRE: New balls, please. One thing I was looking out for, Leighton, in

:38:57.:39:08.

this match was how hard Tomas Berdych would be hitting the ball.

:39:09.:39:13.

The temptation to over press can be there when you want something to

:39:14.:39:17.

happen really badly. I have picked out some average forehand speeds.

:39:18.:39:23.

Very consistent. We will keep monitoring that. It feels to me like

:39:24.:39:29.

he is hitting the ball harder now than he has in these other matches.

:39:30.:39:36.

The match against Jiri Vesely, which went the distance, was huge. He has

:39:37.:39:43.

been on court for 13 hours. Murray's forehand speeds are considerably

:39:44.:39:50.

lower than that. Eight, nine, ten miles an hour less. Actually four

:39:51.:39:57.

miles an hour less in the last few rounds. But he has been going for it

:39:58.:40:05.

as well. In the draw the matches get harder and he feels like he has to

:40:06.:40:10.

step it up. He cannot leave it sitting in the middle of the court

:40:11.:40:15.

for his opponent. He will try and mix it up as much as possible, using

:40:16.:40:20.

all the spins, but he cannot let this guy gets set at all. And when

:40:21.:40:25.

you are talking about small martyrs, you are looking at the final half

:40:26.:40:32.

percent. For miles an hour is probably quite a significant

:40:33.:40:32.

difference. You talk about the movement aspects

:40:33.:42:31.

of Berdych, it is also the defensive skills. When he is the balance he is

:42:32.:42:37.

using the sliced to stay in the point.

:42:38.:43:07.

And Andy Murray staying in and stayed aggressive on the second

:43:08.:43:16.

serve. In the second game he was able to draw a double fault because

:43:17.:43:20.

of it. The second serve, get it back in

:43:21.:43:50.

play, goal number one. He will be disappointed with that. It is very

:43:51.:43:56.

unusual to see Andy Murray miss second serve returns.

:43:57.:44:34.

He has pulled that wide from the forehand side and once again Murray

:44:35.:44:45.

edges ahead. Everyone on their feet, physios and trainers. The team

:44:46.:44:52.

members are delighted with that. And for all of Berdych's ball striking

:44:53.:44:59.

skills, how powerfully where he can hit the ball, in the big point there

:45:00.:45:04.

is very little margin for error. Looking to be aggressive, but

:45:05.:45:08.

missing the spot. Giving Murray the break to serve out the first set.

:45:09.:45:26.

It is a credit to Andy Murray's movement as well because he makes

:45:27.:45:32.

the Court feel so small for his opponents because of his defensive

:45:33.:45:37.

skills. He gets so many balls back they feel like they have got to

:45:38.:45:38.

paint the lines to get it past him. Mum and dad Berdych with their

:45:39.:46:55.

daughter-in-law Esther. Married 51 weeks ago. In the town hall.

:46:56.:47:17.

Errors are flowing from the Berdych racket. Murray asks the question

:47:18.:47:22.

again and again. The second semifinal here at

:47:23.:47:33.

Wimbledon. It is a very tidy set of tennis from

:47:34.:47:53.

Andy Murray. He lost his serve at once, but he was never behind.

:47:54.:48:00.

Closing it out with his second ace. This is now going to be a very tough

:48:01.:48:05.

afternoon for Tomas Berdych. One feels the match on Wednesday with

:48:06.:48:11.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the quarterfinal, there is more

:48:12.:48:13.

versatility in Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's game. How is he going to convince

:48:14.:48:20.

himself that he is going to win this match? It is a fine line, he has to

:48:21.:48:25.

get the balance right because he has the ability to generate the power.

:48:26.:48:29.

But in the last couple of games he can make unforced errors if he gets

:48:30.:48:37.

too passive. If he over oppresses and makes mistakes, that is not

:48:38.:48:42.

going to work. One of the telling stats was the one would just put up,

:48:43.:48:49.

13 unforced errors to one. That is the difference between these guys.

:48:50.:48:53.

You can see Andy Murray going through the game plan again. It will

:48:54.:48:57.

be written down on a piece of paper in his bag. So far it is even

:48:58.:49:01.

surprising how many times Andy Murray has gone for the sliced

:49:02.:49:06.

forehand, try and get it in play and keep it as low as possible for the

:49:07.:49:10.

big Tomas Berdych to get to the ball. Berdych is trying to press, he

:49:11.:49:17.

has been to the net 14 times and has won ten of them. He has done well

:49:18.:49:23.

with that. I suspect he will continue to see anything short as

:49:24.:49:32.

fair game. Tomas Berdych, 52 consecutive Grand Slams in a row

:49:33.:49:37.

after making his debut in the 2003 US Open. He has been a finalist at

:49:38.:49:43.

Wimbledon and a semifinalist at the others. He has got to win three out

:49:44.:49:49.

of four set against Andy Murray here to make another final. That is one

:49:50.:49:54.

thing you need, more first serves. He is only on 50% at the moment and

:49:55.:49:59.

you cannot give one of the best returners in the world a look at too

:50:00.:50:02.

many second serves. That is his classic 1-2. But can he

:50:03.:51:01.

realistically do it for three sets TRACY AUSTIN: You think it is

:51:02.:51:06.

impossible. It is unlikely. Hawk-Eye came an in 2007 and

:51:07.:51:23.

replaced Cyclops. You get three challenges and if you are right, you

:51:24.:51:26.

maintain your challenges at that number. Tomas Berdych maintains his

:51:27.:51:32.

three challenges. If you are wrong, you lose one.

:51:33.:51:57.

Both these players will be in action for their respective nations. It is

:51:58.:52:04.

the Czech Republic versus brands in the quarterfinal of the Davis Cup

:52:05.:52:09.

coming up. He is twice a winner in the Davis Cup in 2012 and 2013.

:52:10.:52:19.

Radek Stepanek was alongside him, representing his country at the

:52:20.:52:23.

Olympic Games. Alongside Andy will be Jamie Murray. They will be

:52:24.:52:30.

playing Serbia. We have got that on television and on radio. The 15th

:52:31.:52:39.

and the 17th of July. They will not be grieving totally on Sunday night

:52:40.:52:40.

when this festival is over. I am afraid that is going to go down

:52:41.:53:07.

as potentially the worst miss of the Championships. It is a big call, but

:53:08.:53:16.

there was a huge opportunity here. He did so well coming forward and he

:53:17.:53:21.

got the net cord. That was an average lob by Andy Murray's

:53:22.:53:24.

standards, but he just missed this, he was off balance all the time.

:53:25.:53:30.

That is number one. Maybe I am being unfair!

:53:31.:54:38.

Quite often we talk about Andy Murray's second serve. He is serving

:54:39.:54:45.

over 70% first serves, so he is not giving Tomas Berdych many

:54:46.:54:50.

opportunities to look at it, but he has not been hurt by the second

:54:51.:54:54.

serve because he is hitting into the body. Berdych has not been able to

:54:55.:54:58.

get out of the way. Tomas Berdych is on the run. His

:54:59.:56:33.

seven semifinal at Wimbledon. But Andy Murray is so experienced in

:56:34.:56:34.

these situations. Quite happy to take his time on that

:56:35.:57:08.

one and make sure he didn't make the stupid, unforced error. Bjorn Borg

:57:09.:57:15.

might have made an unforced error once or twice, I can't remember

:57:16.:57:29.

many! In fact Andy Murray is tied on 51 Wimbledon victories with the

:57:30.:57:32.

great man, with his wife Patricia there. Bjorn Borg only lost four

:57:33.:57:41.

times in total. In 81 when he beat corners in the semifinal he picked

:57:42.:57:50.

up his 41st and last victory. Before you were born, Lleyton! I might have

:57:51.:57:54.

been six months old. I came to watch that year, the first

:57:55.:58:17.

time I ever came to Wimbledon, and I watched Bjorn Borg play first round.

:58:18.:58:23.

Wye who did he play? Give me a couple of minutes. 41 wins in a row

:58:24.:58:29.

until he lost to McEnroe. Lleyton, how is it being Davis Cup

:58:30.:58:53.

captain? Congratulations on that appointment. Are you not selecting

:58:54.:58:59.

yourself for doubles or anything? Not again. It has been a lot of fun

:59:00.:59:04.

so far. It is totally different working with these guys, but we have

:59:05.:59:09.

a good crop of young guys coming through. One of the kid is out with

:59:10.:59:18.

a shoulder injury, but he should be coming back. Jordan Thompson has got

:59:19.:59:24.

quite a high ranking. But I am passionate about Australian tennis

:59:25.:59:27.

and trying to help that mixed group coming through. You can see the

:59:28.:59:32.

outside courts and Henman Hill. Do they still call it, mate? What else

:59:33.:59:39.

are they going to call it? I spent a lot of time watching another young

:59:40.:59:43.

Australian who is through to the boys Wimbledon junior final on

:59:44.:59:46.

Sunday, so we have got some promising young kids coming through.

:59:47.:59:52.

It is nice to have a look. Tim can tell me better, but both these guys

:59:53.:59:56.

had really good junior careers. I remember you telling me in the

:59:57.:00:01.

locker room that Great Britain had this kid coming out, Andy Murray, he

:00:02.:00:06.

will be this handy. Did you think he would be this good? I always knew he

:00:07.:00:10.

would be very special, especially when he beat you in San Jose for his

:00:11.:00:16.

first title. No, what he has gone on to achieve has been incredible. I do

:00:17.:00:21.

not think it is that easy to predict certainly the magnitude and the

:00:22.:00:25.

level. I knew he would be a top ten or a top five player who had the

:00:26.:00:30.

opportunity to win slams, but he is doing all right.

:00:31.:00:42.

Andrew, is Rennert. Peter? Get back on the search engine!

:00:43.:01:04.

Did he serve first? He was wearing a cool Filape outfit. -- Fila.

:01:05.:01:42.

How awesome is this! Not a bad drop volley here, but how Andy Murray,

:01:43.:01:50.

sprinting forward, can still keep his racket head so steady to push it

:01:51.:01:54.

down the line, really guided up the far side line.

:01:55.:02:13.

Par, this is good, this defence that we are seeing from Murray today is

:02:14.:02:21.

out of this world. And when he was pulled wide off the big forehand

:02:22.:02:26.

return, the ability to come two three paces over, that is training,

:02:27.:02:31.

as well as control, wonderful to watch.

:02:32.:03:06.

The weather has been getting steadily clearer, and the breeze has

:03:07.:03:11.

dropped over the last few minutes, so feeling a bit warmer. Into happy

:03:12.:03:18.

hour nicely here. Approaching six o'clock.

:03:19.:03:27.

Two for the price of one? In 12 minutes' time!

:03:28.:03:37.

Or one for the price of two? Some might say that about the prices

:03:38.:03:41.

here! Murray trying to take the second

:03:42.:04:09.

serve early, but when you see the return land in the middle of the

:04:10.:04:15.

court, he is really out of position, and Berdych able to take advantage.

:04:16.:04:35.

That was a great change of pace first serve, only one and four miles

:04:36.:04:43.

per hour, but right into the body of Murray. It is like cricket,

:04:44.:04:46.

sometimes the slower deliveries, once you have been facing the

:04:47.:04:48.

quicker ones, are more difficult. This is clever tennis, he tried this

:04:49.:06:23.

a couple of times earlier in the first set. It didn't quite work, but

:06:24.:06:27.

he has got such good hands to play that drop shot and bring Berdych

:06:28.:06:31.

forward, make him feel uncomfortable, he is not coming in

:06:32.:06:32.

on his terms. Roger Federer was up 40-0 at the end

:06:33.:07:44.

of the first set, and that proved pretty costly, Tomas Berdych was

:07:45.:07:52.

40-0 up at in this game, now facing break point.

:07:53.:07:55.

UMPIRE: Let, first service. Ivan Lendl used to have an

:07:56.:08:30.

enormously high ball toss, watch how high Berdych throws it up, a peak of

:08:31.:08:36.

about 4.4 metres, really stretches it up, drags it down into the net.

:08:37.:08:58.

Murray is like a limp but on these return games. -- limpet.

:08:59.:09:41.

That is what he needed to come up with, just to get to his advantage.

:09:42.:09:50.

He had 40-0 earlier in this game, then Murray's second serve returns

:09:51.:09:52.

were very crisp as the game went on. Oh, how was that, right on the line,

:09:53.:10:07.

beautiful touch. I think he wanted to volley it, but

:10:08.:10:20.

just feathered it on the backhand half-volley and onto the line.

:10:21.:10:25.

Berdych escapes, break point saved, he will be happy with that. Just

:10:26.:10:30.

under an hour played, once said to Andy Murray, on serve in the second.

:10:31.:10:36.

Shall we see who is in the Royal box today?

:10:37.:10:42.

I am not the wiser! Oh, that is Diana Carney and Mark Carney, the

:10:43.:10:55.

Governor of the Bank of England, looking much happier than he has

:10:56.:10:59.

over the last few weeks! We should ask him what he will do about is

:11:00.:11:08.

dressed raids! Gives the poor bloke a rest! -- about interest rates.

:11:09.:11:18.

Talk about pressure! It can get to some people, but I do not think

:11:19.:11:21.

Tomas Berdych has played badly here, he has come out with the right game

:11:22.:11:27.

plan. He certainly needed to stake in after that first set, he didn't

:11:28.:11:32.

want to go down a break, because Murray is such a good front runner.

:11:33.:11:37.

He will look to create opportunities and Murray's serve. Murray has 65%

:11:38.:11:46.

of first serves in the cold. -- in the court. Murray was winning more

:11:47.:11:50.

points on his second serve than on the first, amazingly. He has only

:11:51.:11:58.

lost ten points in the match on his serve so far, Murray.

:11:59.:12:09.

Most of those were in one game when he got broken back as well, in the

:12:10.:12:17.

first set. What a sight, 15,000 people enjoying

:12:18.:12:24.

this second semifinal. You have played at there and at

:12:25.:13:13.

times, Lleyton, I was out looking this morning, and that the northern

:13:14.:13:18.

end, where Berdych is out at the moment, it is much more worn than

:13:19.:13:21.

the other end, and I can't quite work out why.

:13:22.:13:48.

Oh, he did well there! I am not sure he could make many out of ten, but

:13:49.:14:00.

he handled it well. An angled shot, two handed half-volley bunt. Not in

:14:01.:14:09.

the Tim Henman handbook! I am not sure, the court surface, if you

:14:10.:14:13.

don't know, there's not a lot of chance I will know. But there have

:14:14.:14:17.

been more balls scooting through at this end. Ta'avao balls to play. --

:14:18.:14:27.

tougher balls to play at the end where Tomas Berdych is returning

:14:28.:14:28.

from at the moment. Certainly not a helpful net cord,

:14:29.:14:53.

and suddenly we have break point and Murray is getting a little chatty.

:14:54.:14:59.

Break points in the previous game, did not break. And now he has to

:15:00.:15:08.

fight one off himself. The opportunity to dictate early on in

:15:09.:15:10.

that rally and did not take it. How bad do you think he wants it? He

:15:11.:15:56.

certainly recognise the importance of that point. Good aggressive play.

:15:57.:16:27.

He knows he has his man on the ropes. He can go up two sets to

:16:28.:16:34.

love. He is really in the driving seat.

:16:35.:17:17.

Ten of 14 going forward. He is still piling forward, sticking with the

:17:18.:17:26.

game plan. Anything you want to say about that

:17:27.:18:45.

shot?! He certainly went straight at it. A little bit of needle. Andy had

:18:46.:18:53.

the chance early on, and did not take it. He might do next time.

:18:54.:19:40.

Tough old game, this one. A real mini battle in the heart of the

:19:41.:19:49.

match. Over seven and a half minutes, this game alone. Both

:19:50.:19:57.

players with a lot invested in this, and the crowd are recognising it.

:19:58.:20:17.

Murray trying to maintain that intensity, but there is a bit of

:20:18.:20:31.

dialogue going back and forth from the box, and that is not always a

:20:32.:20:33.

good sign for Murray. Raking forehand, deep into Berdych's

:20:34.:21:16.

forehand. Got the job done. It is a perfectly played grass court point.

:21:17.:21:23.

After hitting such a good approach shot right in the corner, it just

:21:24.:21:29.

felt like Tomas Berdych is throwing absolutely everything into this. He

:21:30.:21:30.

needs some reward after this game. That is a big hold of serve from

:21:31.:22:07.

Andy Murray. Eight minutes played. What a tough service hold that was.

:22:08.:22:26.

We are staying with the tennis here on BBC One. If you are tuning in,

:22:27.:22:34.

expecting news at six, BBC Two. Here, we are staying with the

:22:35.:22:36.

tennis. He makes that passing shot look so

:22:37.:22:57.

easy. Believe me, it is one of the hardest shots take place of the

:22:58.:22:59.

ball. Great wrist action. It is just relentless from Murray.

:23:00.:23:42.

He did so well to hold onto his service game. Now fully engaged in

:23:43.:23:46.

the next, try and get this important break.

:23:47.:25:09.

It is really amazing that the quality of shots in this round. He

:25:10.:25:15.

got there in the end. The pressure Tadhg Furlong. Murray

:25:16.:26:07.

gets the first break of serve in the second set. -- the pressure telling.

:26:08.:26:19.

You are never going to say that he has not been troubled in this match,

:26:20.:26:26.

but you feel like the control could be Andes. -- Andy's. Of course, in a

:26:27.:26:36.

five set match, there is a design flows. The last ten to 12 minutes,

:26:37.:26:42.

for him to the Beeb and get out of that, you could tell he sent that

:26:43.:26:45.

that was a massive game to hold onto, and then he saw the effects of

:26:46.:26:52.

Tomas Berdych. He got nothing for it. They were still on serve.

:26:53.:27:00.

Second serve points one at break point. 100% Andy. It is very

:27:01.:27:14.

difficult to serve at Andy Murray. When you see the regular statistics

:27:15.:27:20.

of second serve points, and the dominating. When they get into the

:27:21.:27:26.

baseline exchanges, is taken out of the equation. 6.5 out of ten for

:27:27.:27:31.

Andy Murray. That is going to beat the foundation. That is why he is

:27:32.:27:37.

going to go on and win this match. He was very much in control of the

:27:38.:27:42.

match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a different composition that

:27:43.:27:47.

quarterfinal on Wednesday evening. The next thing you know, you had a

:27:48.:27:53.

five set thriller. We will see which way the momentum goes next. At the

:27:54.:27:54.

moment, it is with Murray. 15-15, second serve just broken. You

:27:55.:29:42.

can feel what Tomas Berdych wants to do. But that is a big mistake. That

:29:43.:29:44.

has to go inside the line. It must feel like he is having to

:29:45.:30:27.

hit through a brick wall with Andy Murray's defence. He has to go for

:30:28.:30:31.

something a little bit extra. Even on break point in the previous game,

:30:32.:30:36.

for Tomas Berdych to go for a drop shot, that is not his natural shot.

:30:37.:30:40.

That is what Andy Murray will be feeding on. He is trying to do a lot

:30:41.:30:44.

of different things to try and change this match.

:30:45.:31:01.

Still quite a treat that the ground at the Murray end is more worn out

:31:02.:31:12.

than at the Tomas Berdych end, the Royal box end.

:31:13.:32:09.

A great Scot in the Royal box, and another one playing here come and

:32:10.:32:18.

closing in on eight two set lead here, Andy Murray.

:32:19.:32:23.

And it is awake again. These unforced errors are flowing from the

:32:24.:32:32.

racket. He has had a wonderful tournament, but he can feel it going

:32:33.:32:34.

away from him now. Sixth game of this set. Crucial hold

:32:35.:32:39.

for Andy Murray after eight minutes. Hell be passing shot. Murray is two

:32:40.:33:36.

set up! He looks like he is heading for a third Wimbledon final. Even in

:33:37.:33:43.

the pops out. -- Ivan Lendl pops out. Another piece of history

:33:44.:33:49.

awaits. So cool under pressure. That is

:33:50.:34:03.

brilliant! She has got it. Exhibition performance from Serena

:34:04.:34:12.

Williams. Wow. At the age of 28, she has re-invented herself. She has not

:34:13.:34:20.

got any sympathy for her opponent. The winner in Melbourne, and now the

:34:21.:34:24.

Wimbledon final. SUE BARKER: The ladies final is

:34:25.:34:37.

tomorrow. Angelique Kerber against Serena Williams. She is hoping to

:34:38.:34:42.

match Steffi Graf's record. That is tomorrow, but here on Centre

:34:43.:34:57.

Court, Andy Murray is on his way. ANDREW CASTLE: It does appear that

:34:58.:35:05.

way. I great women's final with Angelique Kerber and Serena

:35:06.:35:12.

Williams. One of Tomas Berdych and Andy Murray. A bit of flag-waving

:35:13.:35:19.

ahead, it would seem. Let us remind ourselves of what does that what

:35:20.:35:24.

against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, when he was to set up, and then Tsonga found

:35:25.:35:31.

some inspiration. I'm not sure what Murray is talking about. He had a

:35:32.:35:36.

look up at his box there, Jamie Delgadillo back in position, Ivan

:35:37.:35:41.

Lendl has popped out. -- Jamie Delgadillo.

:35:42.:37:22.

It is the accuracy and the unpredictability of the serve. He

:37:23.:37:29.

lost the first point, Murray, a nice parting shot from Tomas Berdych. But

:37:30.:37:33.

just calming going about his business with the tennis balls in

:37:34.:37:34.

his hand. When you are two sets down and won't

:37:35.:37:55.

be in the final Wimbledon and it is not going your way, how it go about

:37:56.:38:02.

this? We saw the statistics. The only Waugh 11%. Going back to the

:38:03.:38:10.

clay-court season, it is the consistency of his intensity.

:38:11.:38:16.

Before, we have seen the peaks and troughs, and the distractions

:38:17.:38:18.

mentally, but he was so good on the plate. It was reflected on his

:38:19.:38:24.

performance, and it is carried on an grass. He is giving Tomas Berdych

:38:25.:38:28.

sewn Doi so few opportunities. That is just gorgeous. He has played

:38:29.:38:40.

this shot so well today, just be able to take that pace and bond it

:38:41.:38:45.

back and put it in such an awkward position to play a half-volley going

:38:46.:38:52.

forward. That is very you shot. I tried a couple of shots! I don't

:38:53.:38:56.

think I hit it nearly as well has him.

:38:57.:39:07.

He played each other in the semifinal here. Let's move on.

:39:08.:39:15.

It was the top-spin lob that was really annoying. What year was that?

:39:16.:39:23.

2002. The big thing it does in an

:39:24.:39:41.

opponent's mind, he's not sure what to go in on. He is paying such an

:39:42.:39:43.

awkward half-volley. If he has. And when you don't want the

:39:44.:40:25.

difficult half volleys, you become more aggressive on the approach shot

:40:26.:40:27.

and he missed that. That is a superb game to get out of.

:40:28.:41:09.

That is a fine hold. He had to win that one. Tomas Berdych lost a match

:41:10.:41:20.

in if the Palis Italy, to love. That's very unusual. Assuming that

:41:21.:41:31.

he did not mean it. He sacked his coach immediately! That's what

:41:32.:41:32.

coaches are for sarcasm Palis(!). He always leaves it out there on

:41:33.:41:50.

every tournament. A very strange result.

:41:51.:42:10.

The coach that Berdych sacked was the one that Andy Murray worked

:42:11.:42:39.

with. That is the essence of the animosity between the camps a few

:42:40.:42:44.

years ago. It manifested itself in a bit of handbags finger at the

:42:45.:42:46.

Australian Open. The press loved it. I was commentating on that match

:42:47.:43:27.

down in Australia. Tomas Berdych was playing the best tennis I had seen

:43:28.:43:32.

in his career. He knocked off Rafael Nadal easily. For the first set, it

:43:33.:43:37.

was some real quality tennis, but Andy Murray just took it up another

:43:38.:43:41.

gear physically. Tomas Berdych was not able to go with them, and they

:43:42.:43:46.

have played three times since then, and it has all been comfortable wins

:43:47.:43:47.

to Andy Murray. Was such an excellent return, into

:43:48.:44:56.

the rough like a spin bowler at this warning up in. Murray did well to

:44:57.:45:02.

handle that. Murray did well to keep the ball back in play, but when

:45:03.:45:08.

Berdych is trying to make an impact, and inexcusable shop to miss. --

:45:09.:45:12.

shot to miss. The first serve of Murray is

:45:13.:45:28.

dropping off and Berdych has to take advantage.

:45:29.:46:25.

Oh! Oh, the return game, before hand. As Tim Henman was saying, it

:46:26.:46:38.

just cannot be missed -- the forehand.

:46:39.:46:51.

Imagine, my boy missing that forehand, how many times have I told

:46:52.:46:54.

him? Had to work for it, a couple of

:46:55.:47:18.

forehand errors, certainly eased the path for Andy Murray to hold and

:47:19.:47:26.

take the 2-1 lead. Have a look at this? Return hit points for Andy

:47:27.:47:31.

Murray and how much pressure he can exert when serving the second, when

:47:32.:47:36.

he has this big leap in, it is always right foot first, then the

:47:37.:47:43.

split, see where he is there? Way inside. That is the second serve,

:47:44.:47:48.

right there, first serve, further back. That is building pressure and

:47:49.:47:55.

that is why he has to double fault on break point. He does it so well,

:47:56.:48:01.

especially on the backhand. You can see it on the second serve, there is

:48:02.:48:06.

nothing that can't go wrong with his backhand return, it is so simple,

:48:07.:48:11.

there is nothing that can break down and he uses that pace and can work

:48:12.:48:15.

with it. He leans into the ball so well. He is getting a lot of pace on

:48:16.:48:22.

the second serve. Murray still looking to be aggressive and taking

:48:23.:48:24.

the ball early. Jude Law is here today and Dominic

:48:25.:48:51.

Cooper, you might have seen as well. That is the shot that he has to be

:48:52.:49:24.

worried about, the forehand is breaking down. The previous game, he

:49:25.:49:30.

got a short one on game point for Murray and he went for the drop shot

:49:31.:49:32.

because he had lost confidence. Imposing his game on the opposition,

:49:33.:49:52.

driving that backhand, as soon as he got Ivan Lendl back on board, day

:49:53.:49:57.

one at Queen's Club, in the first round, he was stepping up to drive

:49:58.:50:03.

it. He came through a tough service game and look to put the pressure on

:50:04.:50:05.

Berdych. Tomas Berdych actually asked Ivan

:50:06.:50:26.

Lendl to coach him and he said he did not want to come back to tennis

:50:27.:50:30.

and then Andy Murray calls and suddenly he did!

:50:31.:50:56.

It is amazing how many times we have Berdych ran into the net, in a

:50:57.:51:04.

dominant position and then Murray use the dexterity, the hand skills

:51:05.:51:07.

to push the ball back into an awkward position.

:51:08.:51:57.

He is well on the way now, Andy Murray, two sets and a break of

:51:58.:52:07.

serve. He is not going to back off now. 29 unforced errors from the

:52:08.:52:15.

Berdych racquet, just the six from Andy Murray.

:52:16.:52:25.

We had Sir Alex Ferguson earlier on, Peter Reid there. Either of them

:52:26.:53:10.

would take your legs out on the pitch, that is for sure, and off

:53:11.:53:13.

let! -- off it. Andy Murray hit that served so well

:53:14.:53:32.

today, a slider with pace, on the outside. Been able to get a lot of

:53:33.:53:38.

cheap points from that first serve. And he has rarely been at his Max

:53:39.:53:57.

Power, really, he sacrificed for or five miles per hour for the

:53:58.:54:06.

accuracy. He has been frequently at 106, 100 and the seven and 108.

:54:07.:54:21.

Murray continues to torment Tomas Berdych and he has two games for

:54:22.:55:41.

heading to his third Wimbledon final. We remember the last two

:55:42.:55:54.

Roger Federer in 2012, the difficult interview afterwards where he bared

:55:55.:56:01.

his soul, 2013, the victory against Novak Djokovic. Great weekend of

:56:02.:56:07.

sport ahead. The British Grand Prix at Silverstone, European football on

:56:08.:56:13.

Sunday night, Open golf at Royal Troon, the men's final is at two

:56:14.:56:20.

o'clock on Sunday on BBC One. We are on-air at one o'clock. It looks like

:56:21.:56:26.

Andy Murray is going to be in it, but as a player you would never back

:56:27.:56:32.

off. You never know, it is two sets and a break and he has got better as

:56:33.:56:37.

the match has gone on. Really impressed with his serving, he has

:56:38.:56:44.

not over served. He has known, if he can keep Tomas Berdych on the back

:56:45.:56:51.

foot, but every single change he is going to the bike and checking his

:56:52.:57:00.

notes, he is being very there. I do not think it will have helped his

:57:01.:57:05.

mood, that last point, to look up at his box am probably three quarters

:57:06.:57:07.

of his contingent were clapping. Not always easy to watch from up there.

:57:08.:57:25.

Great tournament. It may not be over yet for Tomas Berdych. But he is

:57:26.:57:27.

well down here. That was an impressive hold by

:57:28.:59:31.

Tamils birdlike, really had to dig deep, the scoreboard ticking over,

:59:32.:59:38.

he has never known this game of tennis, pressure, nerves, Andy

:59:39.:59:43.

Murray still two games are away -- Tomas Berdych.

:59:44.:00:13.

Murray averaging 92 mph on his second serve, 84 in the middle of

:00:14.:00:18.

the box is not going to get it done. Berdych does well to do the first

:00:19.:00:53.

one. Then he made the unforced error. When you see Murray in those

:00:54.:01:01.

positions, he is able to stay in the rally a lot longer.

:01:02.:01:29.

That has been one of the differences today, the versatility, it looked

:01:30.:01:36.

like he was going to change last minute and then push it down deep

:01:37.:01:40.

and then he flicked under it, played a fantastic drop shot.

:01:41.:02:24.

UMPIRE: Game, Murray, new balls please. Murray leads by 5-2, third

:02:25.:02:38.

set. Thomas birdlike here, two sets and a break down, he has come back

:02:39.:02:44.

from two sets down in his career but not since 2005 -- Tomas Berdych. He

:02:45.:02:57.

did it in 2004. He did it against a talented Paraguayan player. It is a

:02:58.:03:02.

rare thing, it has been over 11 years since he was able to come

:03:03.:03:06.

down, difficult to keep your head up in a situation like that. Another

:03:07.:03:11.

excellent tournament and it is something we have seen from Tomas

:03:12.:03:15.

Berdych throughout his career, plays well and then someone has a little

:03:16.:03:24.

bit of something more. He would have sensed a massive opportunity in the

:03:25.:03:29.

quarterfinals, to get through to the stage in the semi-finals, in the

:03:30.:03:35.

past, when he has come into the quarterfinals, he knows he has to

:03:36.:03:40.

play one of the top four players. He knows how hard they are to beat.

We have come to expect exceptional from Andy Murray and here he is

Murray has served that serve down the tea exceptionally well but you

time you hit a few out wide here. Murray wants that same ball back,

thank you very much, I like that one.

There you go! Murray in straight sets. A demolition job really, less

:11:28.:11:34.

fantastic performance, the consistency that we saw at the end,

just nine and forced errors in three sets, under two hours, perfect way
