about 7.20? That's it. We will be back with the | :00:00. | :00:00.
late news at ten o'clock. Now it is time for the news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:12.
Good evening and welcome to the programme. | :00:13. | :00:16.
Hundreds of residents in South London have spent their bank holiday | :00:17. | :00:19.
Monday without water after pipes burst last night. Two blocks of | :00:20. | :00:22.
flats were affected, but there's been some dispute over who's | :00:23. | :00:25.
responsible for the repairs as the premises were split over two | :00:26. | :00:29.
different boroughs. Victoria Graham explains. | :00:30. | :00:39.
The problem is simple, a burst water pipe meaning residents in these | :00:40. | :00:44.
flats have no water. In fact, the supply was cut off at eight o'clock | :00:45. | :00:48.
yesterday evening. The solution to that problem is a little more | :00:49. | :00:53.
complex. For residents living here it has been an extremely frustrating | :00:54. | :00:59.
day. Who do they call? Some residents pay their council tax to | :01:00. | :01:04.
Wandsworth, others to Lambeth. Both councils are directing residents to | :01:05. | :01:08.
Thames Water. Lambeth water said it was investigating to find out | :01:09. | :01:11.
exactly who is responsible for the burst water main. Wandsworth Council | :01:12. | :01:17.
apologised for any inconvenience and said they were working with Thames | :01:18. | :01:21.
Water to fix the issue. Thames Water said the problem lies on privately | :01:22. | :01:28.
owned pipe and not one owned by Thames Water but they will continue | :01:29. | :01:31.
to support the council is as much as they can until the problem is fixed. | :01:32. | :01:37.
In the forecast for a dry bank holiday Monday is not what some | :01:38. | :01:43.
residents have envisaged. It has been frustrating but to be honest I | :01:44. | :01:46.
did not have a great deal planned. It would be nice to have a shower | :01:47. | :01:51.
and it feels like a lost day. Concierge told us there was a minor | :01:52. | :01:56.
problem with the pipe yesterday. A plumber was called but the situation | :01:57. | :02:01.
just got worse. When we arrived it was quite serious. A water main had | :02:02. | :02:09.
burst which caused extensive flooding throughout that entire | :02:10. | :02:12.
building. Crews from Lambeth worked extremely hard to isolate that water | :02:13. | :02:15.
supply and thankfully, we have now stopped the flood water. We have | :02:16. | :02:20.
also isolated the electrical supply. Just to assure that the residence | :02:21. | :02:24.
above the commercial premises are safe. So no water and no | :02:25. | :02:29.
electricity. Thames Water told us this evening that they are still | :02:30. | :02:32.
working to resolve the problem with the help of both councils. . | :02:33. | :02:45.
A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a young father was | :02:46. | :02:48.
stabbed in Essex. 24`year`old Michael Haastrup from Southend was | :02:49. | :02:51.
attacked at a flat in Braintree on Wednesday evening and died in | :02:52. | :02:56.
hospital. A second man was also injured. This morning 24`year`old | :02:57. | :02:58.
Luke Eva appeared before magistrates in Chelmsford and has been remanded | :02:59. | :03:07.
in custody. Police are appealing for witnesses | :03:08. | :03:13.
after a 24`year`old man was attacked on Saturday evening. Detectives have | :03:14. | :03:17.
described the assault on Oxendon Street is particularly violent. | :03:18. | :03:21.
The Home Office has said it will now allow a woman from Jamaica to come | :03:22. | :03:24.
to London to donate her kidney to her seriously`ill brother. Oliver | :03:25. | :03:27.
Cameron from Hackney needs the transplant, and his sister Keisha | :03:28. | :03:31.
Rushton offered to become a donor. Initially the Home Office refused | :03:32. | :03:34.
her a visa, saying she couldn't be trusted to return to Jamaica after | :03:35. | :03:38.
the operation. Ms Rushton is now expected in London within days. | :03:39. | :03:45.
A group of teenage girls from Islington have been playing in the | :03:46. | :03:48.
2014 World Cup in Brazil for Team England. They were taking part in a | :03:49. | :03:52.
tournament for street children in Rio which aims to bring young people | :03:53. | :03:55.
together through their love of football. Emma North has followed | :03:56. | :04:02.
their progress. It is as competitive and tough as | :04:03. | :04:06.
the real tournament. And it is as much fun. This is the street child | :04:07. | :04:13.
World Cup, held among the availables of Rio, it brings | :04:14. | :04:17.
together people whose lives are chaotic but to love playing | :04:18. | :04:22.
football. Among them, a group of teenage girls from Islington | :04:23. | :04:28.
representing Team England. I am most excited about getting to see Brazil | :04:29. | :04:30.
because it is one of the places I have wanted to go to and getting to | :04:31. | :04:35.
learn about other people's cultures. Back home they are in care | :04:36. | :04:40.
so they have had to squeeze in training whenever possible and | :04:41. | :04:44.
sometimes it shows. When we first arrived, the girls were really like | :04:45. | :04:50.
they could not believe the beautiful surroundings. The first thing they | :04:51. | :04:53.
saw was a cockroach and they wanted to go back on the plane. We had just | :04:54. | :04:59.
arrived that night! Our experience in the last two weeks or so has been | :05:00. | :05:06.
intense. It is a really full programme of activities, conference, | :05:07. | :05:12.
football and development which is really difficult for young people to | :05:13. | :05:15.
take in. But I think what they will get out of it will be brilliant. The | :05:16. | :05:21.
struggles of street children are universal but here there is a chance | :05:22. | :05:25.
for every child to talk. Although we have not won a lot of Mac shows `` | :05:26. | :05:33.
matches, we have become stronger as a team. When a team loses there are | :05:34. | :05:40.
no hard feelings. At the end, we'll hug and shake each other's hands. | :05:41. | :05:44.
The fact that some countries do not speak English, we can still | :05:45. | :05:48.
communicate with them through football, dance and music. It is | :05:49. | :05:55.
amazing. After a tough few matches, Team England made it through to the | :05:56. | :05:59.
quarterfinals. No cup to lift but plenty more to take away. | :06:00. | :06:01.
Now the weather with Darren Bett. Hello, today was the warmest it has | :06:02. | :06:13.
been through all Easter but the heat has triggered some thundery showers. | :06:14. | :06:18.
Almost anywhere could catch some rain this evening and overnight. It | :06:19. | :06:23.
is likely to be heavy. There could be some hail and plunder in there as | :06:24. | :06:28.
well. Difficult travelling conditions are expected. It will be | :06:29. | :06:32.
mild as we start Tuesday. The tendency is to push the worst of the | :06:33. | :06:35.
wet weather northwards. We may be left with one or two showers in the | :06:36. | :06:40.
afternoon but increasing amounts of sunshine as well. It will feel | :06:41. | :06:45.
pleasantly warm. Through the rest of the week we will maintain those | :06:46. | :06:50.
sorts of temperatures, 17 or 18 degrees. There will be some sunshine | :06:51. | :06:53.
but also some showers. I will be back with our late news | :06:54. | :06:57.
just after quarter past ten tonight. Enjoy the rest of your evening. | :06:58. | :06:59.
Goodbye. places, some thunderstorms developed | :07:00. | :07:35.
this afternoon, initially to the west of London may have drifted | :07:36. | :07:41.
west. Gloucestershire has been pounded by some intense downpours | :07:42. | :07:49.
and reports of hailstone as well. We keep this zone of wet weather here | :07:50. | :07:54.
through the night. Difficult driving conditions if you are underneath | :07:55. | :07:59.
that and yet to make a journey home from the Easter weekend. Generally | :08:00. | :08:04.
through the night, outbreaks of rain and turning misty and murky. Some | :08:05. | :08:11.
clear spells in the north and west of Scotland. For most, no worries | :08:12. | :08:17.
about a frost tonight. Tomorrow, more cloud around than today and a | :08:18. | :08:20.
better chance of getting | :08:21. | :08:21. |
