Police looking into the disappearance of 14 year old Alice

Gross, say it's the biggest search operation the Met has undertaken

The teenager went missing last month.

Day 24 in the search for Alice Cross, and missing schoolgirl from

London. And today four in the hunt for a Latvian builder and the prime

suspect in her disappearance. On the day she went missing, Alice will

seem crossing this bridge. It has emerged that in 1998, Arnis Zalkalns

was accused of murdering his wife. Police have now searched two

properties linked to him. This is now the largest search operation the

Met have conducted since the 7/7 Met have conducted since the 7/

bombings back in 2005. Officers from several different forces have been

involved. They have searched 5.5 involved. They have searched 5.

kilometres of canals and rivers as well as searching land and viewing

hundreds of hours of CCTV footage. Today, officers have widened the

area they are looking in. They are also looking -- asking anyone with

CCTV in their home or who filmed anything in Ely and more Hanwell, to

hand over their footage. Yellow ribbons and missing posters still

adorn the streets here. Police say their search for Alice will not

stop. Residents living in Stamford Hill

have complained about posters asking women to walk on one side of the

road. Police say the signs were put up

in some local streets for the Torah Parade,

a traditional Jewish festival Organisers of the parade have told

police that next year they'll only be written in Hebrew and will be

removed straight after the parade. There is a very strong feeling here

that the public spaces must belong to everyone and that it is quite an

acceptable to attempt to prohibit movement of any section of the

population within the public space. Parents in Enfield are being told

they're endangering the lives of children by stopping illegally

outside the school gates. The council's been targeting

a number of schools in the borough to encourage parents to park safely

as Cordelia Hemming reports. Bold, bright and with one clear

message. They are the lines which attempt to deter parents from

dropping off their kids outside the school gate. Lines which are often

ignored. They stopped in the middle of the road and let the children

come out and run into the schools. It is unbelievable. I noticed

dangerous, it should not happen but the school needs to provide some

space for parents. I do not see why they should pull up anywhere they

want. You have got to find a safe place. A gentle warning about the

risks involved in dropping kids off on zigzag lines. On Monday these

warnings will take the place of fixed penalty notices. It is

important that parents take the message that they cannot park

outside schools on zigzag lines. Enforcement action will be taken

should they continue to do so. A recent poll found 44% of parents

believe their children's lives are in danger at the school gates

because of traffic speeds, congestion and inconsiderate

parking. A few miles away in Hackney, this school has worked hard

to ditch the car and take a greener approach. It has led to the majority

of pupils coming by foot or by bike. They used to be lots of cars pulling

up and that was dangerous for the children. We focused on asking

people to walk to school or cycle to school so they did not cause that

congestion outside. In Enfield, the school says the problem involves a

minority of parents and hopes these mechanisms will encourage them to

play by the rules. A quick look at the weather now and
