including a first look at tomorrow's headlines on the BBC News | :00:00. | :00:00.
Channel. Have a very good night Good evening from BBC London News. | :00:00. | :00:13.
I'm Louisa Preston. People around the world have been | :00:14. | :00:19.
taking Here in London, thousands joined a | :00:20. | :00:21.
march Gareth Furby followed one | :00:22. | :00:25.
family from Cricklewood who For the McDonald family from | :00:26. | :00:41.
Cricklewood, this was a special day for two reasons. They were joining | :00:42. | :00:48.
the march. We are certainly not eco-warriors but we know the way we | :00:49. | :00:53.
are living is unsustainable. And it was a special birthday for mum. | :00:54. | :01:00.
Happy birthday, ma'am. Thank you. I am 40 and that feels grown-up and | :01:01. | :01:06.
this felt like a grown-up thing to do, to do something important. They | :01:07. | :01:11.
joined thousands of people for the march. Joining the rally, the singer | :01:12. | :01:18.
Lita Grey Beale -- Peter Gabriel who says he is switching to a greener | :01:19. | :01:25.
lifestyle. I am looking at my house and studio and changing energy | :01:26. | :01:29.
sources. I am looking at the way I conduct myself and how much energy I | :01:30. | :01:37.
can seem, with the festival and tours. But how do the organisers | :01:38. | :01:42.
deal with measurements that show that something happened recently | :01:43. | :01:47.
with the long-term trend. More than 15 years ago, for some reason, | :01:48. | :01:52.
temperatures stopped rising. The majority of the world's scientists | :01:53. | :01:57.
say that as a temporary pause. We need to act and starting now. For | :01:58. | :02:05.
one family it was a day out to remember and happy birthday for mum. | :02:06. | :02:10.
In the wake of the Scottish "No" vote, | :02:11. | :02:12.
devolving more power to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland has been | :02:13. | :02:15.
But what about the other UK assembly - the one here in London? | :02:16. | :02:19.
Should City Hall enjoy extra powers in the near future? | :02:20. | :02:22.
London has half the population of Scotland and economy twice the size | :02:23. | :02:34.
so when London was offered more powers, it was inevitable it would | :02:35. | :02:38.
want some too. On Friday morning, that was hinted that it may be on | :02:39. | :02:42.
the cards. It is also important that we have wider civic engagement about | :02:43. | :02:46.
how to improve governments throughout the United Kingdom. And | :02:47. | :02:53.
rightly so say some conservatives who think the time is right for | :02:54. | :02:58.
change. London will need to stand up as well including England and that | :02:59. | :03:02.
means having sufficient powers to assure London has a fair deal. | :03:03. | :03:08.
London already has a voice, its own regional Assembly at City Hall. It | :03:09. | :03:13.
has powers over things like transport and polluting. What more | :03:14. | :03:17.
does want? Particularly the ability to hold onto tax as it raises and | :03:18. | :03:21.
says this could be used to build more homes and infrastructure | :03:22. | :03:27.
projects. At the moment 93% of money London raises in taxes is handed | :03:28. | :03:33.
over to the government. Compare that to New York which is allowed to keep | :03:34. | :03:37.
half its revenues. Could London s layers of government mean it is not | :03:38. | :03:43.
ready for devolution? The problem with the London model is the | :03:44. | :03:46.
borrowers and the Assembly, there are different layers of bureaucracy. | :03:47. | :03:54.
This may not be London's biggest obstacle. The Prime Minister's focus | :03:55. | :03:58.
now maybe getting a deal for London as a whole. I do not think it would | :03:59. | :04:03.
be right to give the powers to London that are going to Scotland as | :04:04. | :04:07.
a whole. I think they should reside in England as a whole. People are | :04:08. | :04:11.
telling me they want justice for England. We are fed up with our | :04:12. | :04:16.
country not being on the map and not having a voice. So London may have | :04:17. | :04:22.
to wait its turn in this devolution giveaway. | :04:23. | :04:25.
Well, a lovely day in London, let?s find out what next week has | :04:26. | :04:28.
Hello, a fresh start for the new working week. Some clout will bubble | :04:29. | :04:42.
up but we should get some decent sunny spells. -- cloud. Staying | :04:43. | :04:48.
settled for much of next week. Chile at night. | :04:49. | :04:54.
That is it. We will be back tomorrow in Breakfast. From all of us on the | :04:55. | :04:56.
team, good night. By the end of the night, | :04:57. | :05:26.
temperatures in towns and cities dip into ten | :05:27. | :05:27. |
