A rider has died while competing at the North West 200 this afternoon.

Racing has been cancelled for the day.

We can go live now to our reporter Stephen Watson, who is at the event.

The rider has still not been named. He was making his debut at this

event. The incident happened on the coast road during the third lap of

the fourth race of the day. I understand that rider was alive at

the scene but paramedics were unable to save his life. I'm joined by

former North West 200 winner, a lot like Colin. A tragic end to the

race. It was a wonderful meeting this morning, the sun was out, a

record crowd, records were being broken and for this to happen, it's

just a sad end to a meeting that was going to be another great one.

You've been involved in the sport for a long time. The riders know the

risks. This young man has paid the ultimate price and he was a rising

star. We know before we go out, we know there is a risk and that is

usually not as great as this. You fall off, you get if you broken

bones, you pick yourself up and get going again but unfortunately there

is a possibility that things could end up in their fertility. We all

know we take that risk that we hope that ever happened to us or any of

our close friends. Philip, thank you. The North West 200 races today

abandoned because of a fertility. A 51-year-old man has been remanded

in custody charged with carrying out It was one of three gun attacks

carried out in North and West Belfast on the same

day last week. Dan Stanton reports

from Belfast Magistrate's Court. A detective told the court

that the man who was shot has identified Paul Francis Magee

as his attacker. He made the acidification in an

interview with the police before going into surgery.

The police officer also told the court that Mr Magee,

from Knutsford Drive in Belfast, had refused to answer any

questions about the shooting, which was carried out early

on Monday morning in this alleyway off the Antrim Road.

He also said the gun used in the attack still hasn't been found.

The paramilitary-style shooting in the alleyway,

which is between Sheridan Street and Donore Court, was one of three

If you have in the early spring blooms you might want to protect

them as we could see a slight frost I'd tomorrow morning, but for most

of us we should stay at four or 5 degrees. A chilly start to Sunday

that it will be dry and there will be some sun, a little heat,

especially inland. There will be a little more cloud tomorrow so not as

clear blue skies as today but still not bad and across-the-board it's

similar with plenty of sunshine, the odd risk of a shower in eastern

areas, maybe one or two across Munster but overall dry and

temperatures will be average for the time of year. As we get into the

second part of the day, there will be some cloud but still dry if

you're heading to Brewster Park for the Fermanagh and and from game,

towards the north coast temperatures will be ten or 11 degrees but

further inland we are looking at 14 or 15. A chilly night overnight into

Monday that it will be much like tomorrow, a fair amount of cloud,

the odd risk of an isolated shower late in the day for eastern counties

that temperatures reaching 12, maybe 14 degrees, a good amount of cloud

but also sunshine. On Tuesday grey skies moved in, bringing patchy rain

and it will stay unsettled on Wednesday, so for the time being
