Good evening. The Prime Minister the English game couldn't ignore.

Good evening. The Prime Minister says he's confident a new nuclear

power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset will get built, amid

growing worries that the deal may collapse. There are concerns that

the European Union may decide that the financial guarantees offered by

the Government breach the rules, and the whole project could then be in

jeopardy. The plans for a new power station are already behind schedule.

Clinton Rogers reports. In corridors of power there are

plainly nerves about the future of Hinkley C. Can we please have time

to debate this? It has to be put forward. But that call by the local

MP has been seized upon by anti`nuclear campaigners as proof

that the project is in their words looking more and more flaky. It's

clear that Mr Granger is panicking, and he should be. He has hitched his

political future to a project which has got no future now. Now while it

might be argued he would say that, wouldn't he, it's been a difficult

few months for Hinkley C, with the European Union now investigating

whether the deal between the Government and the French power

company, EDF, amounts to illegal state subsidy, and a legal academic

arguing it may be invalid. Enter the Prime Minister no less, to say,

"Fear not Hinkley C will be built." Yet this week ` after a long pause `

the company restarted engineering work to prepare this huge site in

readiness for Hinkley C. The countries in Europe should be able

to invest in nuclear energy as part of a balanced plan to provide core

energy and keep carbon emissions down. That is what we are doing. I'm

sure the commission will see that and the deal will go ahead. And you

could argue, he would say that, wouldn't he? The European Union

decision is key for the entire future of Hinkley C. If they decide

the deal does amount to an illegal subsidy, there are those who believe

that at that point EDF will walk away and the entire project will

collapse. Yet this week, after a long pause, the company restarted

engineering work, preparing this huge site in readiness for Hinkley

C. An investment of several million pounds, a pretty clear indication

you might think their confident the EU decision will go their way.

A cricket club in Bristol is campaigning to stop one of its

players being deported to Pakistan. Ahad Rizvi played for the Easton

Cowboys after moving to the UK with his family last year. In March he

was sent to a detention centre after the Home Office refused permission

for him to stay. His family says he'll face religious persecution if

he goes back and the cricket club is helping launch an appeal.

They have got no funding back in Pakistan and they cannot go back to

the neighbourhood where they have grown up because they will be in

extreme danger. They will be going back to live on the streets of

Pakistan with nothing or nobody, when there is a community cheer that

is happy to welcome them and make them part of our community. Police

in Bristol are investigating a series of arson attacks, after cars

were set alight in the street over the bank holiday weekend. Several

vehicles were set on fire in Henbury and Southmead in the early hours of

Sunday morning. Police are asking anyone with information or who saw

anything that night to get in touch. Employees at the Honda plant in

Sweden have until today to apply for voluntary redundancy. So far, 109

people have applied. `` in Swindon. The formal process is due to start

next week. The car manufacturer is cutting jobs because of falling

sales in Europe. They were some of Gloucestershire's most historic

aircraft, but for years, some of the Gloster Aircraft Company's creations

were left to the elements ` unseen and unprotected. Now though ` after

years of planning ` they have a new home. Andy Howard was there to see

it open. Once upon a time, Gloucestershire

ruled these guys. These Javelin jet planes helped to build the area's

aviation heritage. But for almost 30 years, the fight has been on to give

these military marvels a home. And from today, this. `` this is it. No

longer battered and bruised by the elements, these planes are here to

help inspire the next generation of pilots and engineers. Talking of

which, the red carpet was laid, ready for a legend of these guys.

The guest of honour has just arrived, the last man to fly the

real version of one of these. One of the most decorated British pilots

around, Captain Eric Brown, is here to unveil a plaque. Now aged 95. I

just wish some of those wonderful days could happen over again. Not

the war, you had a wonderful, wonderful spirit. None better than

here in the backroom, which was set up in World War I and through World

War II. I shall never forget the wonderful people there for their

heritage. Do not lose it. You have set it up now and I hope it stays

you. From the past, to the future. You could feel the life coming back

into this place and into these planes. Even the wine was jet fuel.

So the museum is open, everything is ready to go, let's make our own bit

of aviation history in the Vulcan. Where shall we go then? At! Does
