Good evening. The Prime Minister the English game couldn't ignore. | :00:08. | :00:14.
Good evening. The Prime Minister says he's confident a new nuclear | :00:15. | :00:17.
power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset will get built, amid | :00:18. | :00:20.
growing worries that the deal may collapse. There are concerns that | :00:21. | :00:23.
the European Union may decide that the financial guarantees offered by | :00:24. | :00:26.
the Government breach the rules, and the whole project could then be in | :00:27. | :00:30.
jeopardy. The plans for a new power station are already behind schedule. | :00:31. | :00:35.
Clinton Rogers reports. In corridors of power there are | :00:36. | :00:38.
plainly nerves about the future of Hinkley C. Can we please have time | :00:39. | :00:47.
to debate this? It has to be put forward. But that call by the local | :00:48. | :00:51.
MP has been seized upon by anti`nuclear campaigners as proof | :00:52. | :00:53.
that the project is in their words looking more and more flaky. It's | :00:54. | :01:00.
clear that Mr Granger is panicking, and he should be. He has hitched his | :01:01. | :01:06.
political future to a project which has got no future now. Now while it | :01:07. | :01:10.
might be argued he would say that, wouldn't he, it's been a difficult | :01:11. | :01:14.
few months for Hinkley C, with the European Union now investigating | :01:15. | :01:16.
whether the deal between the Government and the French power | :01:17. | :01:19.
company, EDF, amounts to illegal state subsidy, and a legal academic | :01:20. | :01:27.
arguing it may be invalid. Enter the Prime Minister no less, to say, | :01:28. | :01:31.
"Fear not Hinkley C will be built." Yet this week ` after a long pause ` | :01:32. | :01:34.
the company restarted engineering work to prepare this huge site in | :01:35. | :01:38.
readiness for Hinkley C. The countries in Europe should be able | :01:39. | :01:42.
to invest in nuclear energy as part of a balanced plan to provide core | :01:43. | :01:44.
energy and keep carbon emissions down. That is what we are doing. I'm | :01:45. | :01:50.
sure the commission will see that and the deal will go ahead. And you | :01:51. | :01:54.
could argue, he would say that, wouldn't he? The European Union | :01:55. | :02:02.
decision is key for the entire future of Hinkley C. If they decide | :02:03. | :02:07.
the deal does amount to an illegal subsidy, there are those who believe | :02:08. | :02:11.
that at that point EDF will walk away and the entire project will | :02:12. | :02:16.
collapse. Yet this week, after a long pause, the company restarted | :02:17. | :02:22.
engineering work, preparing this huge site in readiness for Hinkley | :02:23. | :02:25.
C. An investment of several million pounds, a pretty clear indication | :02:26. | :02:28.
you might think their confident the EU decision will go their way. | :02:29. | :02:35.
A cricket club in Bristol is campaigning to stop one of its | :02:36. | :02:40.
players being deported to Pakistan. Ahad Rizvi played for the Easton | :02:41. | :02:44.
Cowboys after moving to the UK with his family last year. In March he | :02:45. | :02:48.
was sent to a detention centre after the Home Office refused permission | :02:49. | :02:53.
for him to stay. His family says he'll face religious persecution if | :02:54. | :02:53.
he goes back and the cricket club is helping launch an appeal. | :02:54. | :03:05.
They have got no funding back in Pakistan and they cannot go back to | :03:06. | :03:08.
the neighbourhood where they have grown up because they will be in | :03:09. | :03:12.
extreme danger. They will be going back to live on the streets of | :03:13. | :03:16.
Pakistan with nothing or nobody, when there is a community cheer that | :03:17. | :03:19.
is happy to welcome them and make them part of our community. Police | :03:20. | :03:23.
in Bristol are investigating a series of arson attacks, after cars | :03:24. | :03:26.
were set alight in the street over the bank holiday weekend. Several | :03:27. | :03:29.
vehicles were set on fire in Henbury and Southmead in the early hours of | :03:30. | :03:33.
Sunday morning. Police are asking anyone with information or who saw | :03:34. | :03:38.
anything that night to get in touch. Employees at the Honda plant in | :03:39. | :03:41.
Sweden have until today to apply for voluntary redundancy. So far, 109 | :03:42. | :03:50.
people have applied. `` in Swindon. The formal process is due to start | :03:51. | :03:54.
next week. The car manufacturer is cutting jobs because of falling | :03:55. | :03:57.
sales in Europe. They were some of Gloucestershire's most historic | :03:58. | :04:00.
aircraft, but for years, some of the Gloster Aircraft Company's creations | :04:01. | :04:03.
were left to the elements ` unseen and unprotected. Now though ` after | :04:04. | :04:08.
years of planning ` they have a new home. Andy Howard was there to see | :04:09. | :04:18.
it open. Once upon a time, Gloucestershire | :04:19. | :04:26.
ruled these guys. These Javelin jet planes helped to build the area's | :04:27. | :04:32.
aviation heritage. But for almost 30 years, the fight has been on to give | :04:33. | :04:35.
these military marvels a home. And from today, this. `` this is it. No | :04:36. | :04:42.
longer battered and bruised by the elements, these planes are here to | :04:43. | :04:48.
help inspire the next generation of pilots and engineers. Talking of | :04:49. | :04:52.
which, the red carpet was laid, ready for a legend of these guys. | :04:53. | :04:57.
The guest of honour has just arrived, the last man to fly the | :04:58. | :05:01.
real version of one of these. One of the most decorated British pilots | :05:02. | :05:07.
around, Captain Eric Brown, is here to unveil a plaque. Now aged 95. I | :05:08. | :05:14.
just wish some of those wonderful days could happen over again. Not | :05:15. | :05:19.
the war, you had a wonderful, wonderful spirit. None better than | :05:20. | :05:27.
here in the backroom, which was set up in World War I and through World | :05:28. | :05:36.
War II. I shall never forget the wonderful people there for their | :05:37. | :05:41.
heritage. Do not lose it. You have set it up now and I hope it stays | :05:42. | :05:48.
you. From the past, to the future. You could feel the life coming back | :05:49. | :05:51.
into this place and into these planes. Even the wine was jet fuel. | :05:52. | :06:01.
So the museum is open, everything is ready to go, let's make our own bit | :06:02. | :06:06.
of aviation history in the Vulcan. Where shall we go then? At! Does | :06:07. | :06:16.
anybody know how to get down? Seriously! That's about all from me, | :06:17. | :06:20.
but just time to show you these pictures taken by shocked diners on | :06:21. | :06:24.
Bristol's Park Street of the Prime Minister dropping in for a bite to | :06:25. | :06:32.
eat after a hard day's campaigning. We'll our weekend team will be back | :06:33. | :06:36.
with you tomorrow ` now here's Ian Fergusson with a look at the | :06:37. | :06:37.
weather. We'll our weekend team will be back | :06:38. | :06:39.
with you tomorrow Good evening. I'm unsettled weekend. There will be | :06:40. | :06:42.
some frequent showers. The rest of the weekend follows in a | :06:43. | :06:53.
similar pattern. Tonight we will find a band of heavy rain moving | :06:54. | :06:59.
east. Temperatures mild. By tomorrow morning, that band of rain should be | :07:00. | :07:03.
clearing away gradually to the east. Things are starting to | :07:04. | :07:05.
brighten up later through the morning. Accompanying that, some | :07:06. | :07:13.
showers, heavy at times. Later in the afternoon the winds will | :07:14. | :07:16.
strengthen further. A Met Office warning out for parts of West | :07:17. | :07:23.
Somerset and the Bristol Channel. Cabbages tomorrow in the best of the | :07:24. | :07:29.
sunny spells, 14 or 15. Similar on Sunday. The showers will die away | :07:30. | :07:32.
forecast, where things are looking pretty unsettled for the next couple | :07:33. | :07:37.
of days. Good evening. In this country, no | :07:38. | :07:44.
two days of whether are stacked in this country, no two days of whether | :07:45. | :07:51.
are Saky the same. But this weekend, it will feel like | :07:52. | :07:52. |
