limited. That's all from | :00:00. | :00:18.
Good evening. It's emerged tonight that a further seven nurses have | :00:19. | :00:23.
been suspended at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend as part | :00:24. | :00:26.
of an ongoing investigation into allegations that records were | :00:27. | :00:31.
falsified. Last year, three nurses working at the hospital had been | :00:32. | :00:34.
arrested on suspicion of neglect following claims that notes had been | :00:35. | :00:39.
falsified. Our health correspondent Owain Clarke is here. What's the | :00:40. | :00:52.
latest? We know that for some time health care has been under the | :00:53. | :01:03.
spotlight in the region. We note that three of the hospitals have | :01:04. | :01:14.
been targeted. Seven Mormon nurses have been suspended from duty and we | :01:15. | :01:18.
understand it happened last year. It was the result of an internal | :01:19. | :01:25.
investigation. Said details are limited, but we can expect more | :01:26. | :01:33.
soon, presumably? Yes. No comment from the Welsh government, but | :01:34. | :01:38.
following a crescendo of complaints, the health minister did ask for an | :01:39. | :01:43.
independent review at the health board. I expect that report to be | :01:44. | :01:51.
published imminently. The health board said they will implement any | :01:52. | :02:01.
recommendations. However, there have been calls for a four public in -- | :02:02. | :02:09.
for a public enquiry. More should be done to promote the | :02:10. | :02:12.
great Welsh outdoors to visitors from outside Wales. That's the view | :02:13. | :02:15.
of businesses operating in the tourism sector. | :02:16. | :02:19.
Yes, you can get wet when you holiday in Wales, but this is the | :02:20. | :02:24.
kind of wet people are prepared to pay for. At this whitewater rafting | :02:25. | :02:28.
centre, they boast that it is the best of its kind in the UK. This | :02:29. | :02:41.
group are a stag party from England. They learnt about the facility | :02:42. | :02:49.
through word-of-mouth. People do generally know that Wales is all | :02:50. | :02:55.
about outdoor pursuits. There's not much information where we're from in | :02:56. | :03:03.
Sussex. I would not have thought that this is well advertised to | :03:04. | :03:09.
people further afield. Visit Wales does advertise, but it is broad | :03:10. | :03:21.
brushed. Should there be a more focused Porsche on the outdoor | :03:22. | :03:33.
activities that Wells have to offer? There should be more advertising. | :03:34. | :03:40.
This is a great opportunity for Wales, but of course people in the | :03:41. | :03:44.
South East have so much choice. Visitors means money and that | :03:45. | :03:49.
translates into jobs. What is really important is that people who spend | :03:50. | :03:55.
their money when they get here, be it in hotels, restaurants, shops and | :03:56. | :03:59.
even petrol stations. The report today suggest the alt oil sector | :04:00. | :04:07.
ports ?481 million into the Welsh it: Me every year. 8000 jobs are | :04:08. | :04:13.
supported. However, much of that work has not gone to Welsh school | :04:14. | :04:25.
leavers. Campaigners are saying that more needs to be done. Historically, | :04:26. | :04:30.
local people have not seen the outdoors as a means of employment. I | :04:31. | :04:39.
was never given the opportunity to go hill walking or kayaking when I | :04:40. | :04:43.
was younger will stop things are changing. Over the last ten years, | :04:44. | :04:48.
outdoor partnership has engaged with 35,000 people. Some people have been | :04:49. | :04:53.
able to sustain employment in the sector. There is no doubt the great | :04:54. | :04:59.
wealth outdoors has a lot to offer thrill seekers. | :05:00. | :05:07.
Two senior doctors at a mental health unit in Bangor say they're | :05:08. | :05:10.
concerned about the way it is being run. The consultants at the Hergest | :05:11. | :05:13.
psychiatric unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd say the Health Minister needs to | :05:14. | :05:17.
take action over the way staff are being treated. The health board | :05:18. | :05:20.
which runs the unit says all the correct procedures are being | :05:21. | :05:23.
followed and it is listening to staff. | :05:24. | :05:29.
It scares some of the most honourable patients in Wales, often | :05:30. | :05:32.
with challenging mental health conditions, but for the last year, | :05:33. | :05:38.
some staff at the Hergest unit have not been happy. Last summer | :05:39. | :05:42.
management wanted to change the way it was run and then to senior nurses | :05:43. | :05:48.
were suddenly sent home. When some of the senior ward managers here | :05:49. | :05:51.
were questioning some of the changes being made, then one day when some | :05:52. | :05:59.
of the changes were due to be implemented, then the ward managers | :06:00. | :06:02.
of the two main wards were asked to leave. They were away for six weeks. | :06:03. | :06:08.
During that time, the wards did not have any leadership. Other people | :06:09. | :06:13.
stepped in but did not know what they were doing. Colleagues | :06:14. | :06:17.
protested and the two nurses are back at work, but staff are worried | :06:18. | :06:24.
about what will happen next. The health board said it is listening | :06:25. | :06:28.
and wants to improve things. And patients. We are setting up systems | :06:29. | :06:35.
in the Hergest unit so that we are meeting staff regularly and we are | :06:36. | :06:39.
listening to the voices of all of the staff and not just one or two | :06:40. | :06:45.
local people. Some of those voices have taken things further. Two | :06:46. | :06:50.
consultants have complained to the Assembly and they are asking the | :06:51. | :06:53.
health minister to step in and make sure that ain't really do change. | :06:54. | :06:57.
The mines inspector who led the investigation after four men drowned | :06:58. | :07:00.
in a Swansea Valley pit has told a jury how he was left chilled after | :07:01. | :07:06.
seeing a plan of the mine. Sketches on the map suggested the colliers | :07:07. | :07:09.
had been working towards underground water. Malcolm Fyfield, who was the | :07:10. | :07:13.
pit manager, denies four counts of manslaughter through gross | :07:14. | :07:15.
negligence and the mine operators deny four counts of corporate | :07:16. | :07:21.
manslaughter. More than 200 jobs are to be created | :07:22. | :07:25.
in Merthyr Tydfil at a company that manufactures exhaust systems for | :07:26. | :07:27.
cars. Tenneco-Walker already employs around 190 people on its site at | :07:28. | :07:32.
Tredegar. Today it announced it's opening a second site at Dowlais | :07:33. | :07:37.
Top. The 2015 Ashes series will begin in | :07:38. | :07:43.
Wales. The first Test between England and Australia will start on | :07:44. | :07:46.
July eighth at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff. The two sides will also | :07:47. | :07:49.
play a Twenty20 international there at the end of August. | :07:50. | :07:56.
It's looking up on the weather front - Derek has got the forecast. | :07:57. | :08:04.
Some great cricket weather later this week with high pressure on the | :08:05. | :08:10.
way. At the moment, it is quite chilly. It will be on the cool side. | :08:11. | :08:18.
A few showers dotted around the country tonight, but not everywhere | :08:19. | :08:23.
will catch them. Some places will stay dry. A little bit of missed | :08:24. | :08:29.
bawling. Temperatures down to as low as five Celsius. There will be some | :08:30. | :08:38.
showers tomorrow, but there will be sunshine as well. Across the rest of | :08:39. | :08:43.
the UK, many places will start dry, but they will be some showers | :08:44. | :08:46.
around. There will be more to come during the day. Not everywhere will | :08:47. | :08:53.
catch them, but if you do, they could be heavy. Sunny spells | :08:54. | :08:58.
tomorrow with temperatures up to 17 degrees in London and 14 degrees in | :08:59. | :09:04.
Glasgow. On the whole, a lot of fine and dry weather with a great deal of | :09:05. | :09:11.
sunshine. Temperatures up to 16 Celsius. Any showers will die away | :09:12. | :09:20.
to leave us with a finite -- a dry night. Any fog patches on Wednesday | :09:21. | :09:27.
will disappear in leaving a generally dry day. Temperatures up | :09:28. | :09:33.
to 17 degrees in Monmouth. Thursday, it will be dry and settled. The | :09:34. | :09:38.
second half of the week looks quite a thing. Dry with sunny spells and | :09:39. | :09:43.
rising temperatures. Not a heatwave, but much warmer than it | :09:44. | :09:48.
has been recently. Newsnight has just started over on | :09:49. | :09:56.
BBC Two, asking why Nick Clegg was told to get stuffed by the education | :09:57. | :10:00.
Ministry 's chief adviser. | :10:01. | :10:02. |
