Good evening. A court has heard how the boss of a charity

withdrew thousands of pounds from the organisation's bank account

to reduce his own credit card bill. Naz Malik ran the now-defunct

The chief executive, Naz Malik, stands accused of fraud.

He used the money to reduce his own debts.

Today, Swansea Crown Court said that he would leave signed

and blank cheques in a drawer, to be used in emergencies.

The prosecution said that in March 2010, Naz Malik

If asked for one of

the checks to cover his expenses. The jury heard he was given

a cheque that was signed and blank. It was claimed he gave that cheque

a value of ?2,500 and used it to reduce his credit card bill.

The court was then told Naz Malik took a second cheque

while he was away one day and used it to pay ?9,340

into his personal bank account. At the time, in August 2010,

the amount outstanding on his credit card was also ?9,340.

The third allegation relates to a life assurance policy taken out

on behalf of his wife. The prosecution says

the policy was paid for dishonestly through his bank account,

with monthly direct debit payments of nearly ?90 being made from early

2008 to early 2012, adding up to a total of more than ?3,500.

Naz Malik denies all three counts of fraud and the trial continues.

Unemployment is continuing to fall in Wales.
