The Ministry of Defence says it will spend ?372 million

on maintaining its Hawk fast-jet training aircraft,

securing more than 470 jobs on Anglesey.

The armed forces use the fleet for military flying training.

It's where almost all British fighter pilots come to train.

The people flying these aircraft at RAF Valley could one day be

carrying out a strikes over Iraq or Syria.

And these are the Hawk jet planes they used to learn their skills.

Today the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Hawks will be

Contracts worth over ?300 million have been awarded to maintain

the planes and their engines, and to design and build

Those contracts mean jobs, over 470 people work here at RAF

Valley maintaining and servicing the Hawks.

The announcement does not necessarily mean new jobs,

but business as usual for tjhose already working

It also means business as usual for those companies on Anglesey

and further afield to supply RAF Valley with everything from catering

Although it is a military facility it is of vital

It offers high-quality employment, and creates disposable income

which is distributed and spent across the island.

RAF Valley is still one of the largest employers on Anglesey.

There were threats of job losses are to be end of last year,

but the Ministry of Defence confirmed in February that it

will remain the fast jet training base until at least 2033.

Officials say today's announcement makes the future even more secure.

The delegation from the Welsh steel industry has had preliminary talks

with Tata Steel representatives in Mumbai ahead of the Tata board

meeting tomorrow when the company discusses the future of the works

More than 700 job losses were announced at the site in January.

Union representatives and the Aberavon MP,

Stephen Kinnock, met Tata officials to make the case

evidence of Wales' performance in front of goal in the last two games,

their return cannot come soon enough.
