Wales needs to rethink the help it offers to companies based here,

in light of Tata's decision to sell its steel plants.

That's according to members of Wales' main political parties,

who have been giving their views on the future of the Welsh economy

in the run-up to next month's Assembly elections.

Here's our Political Correspondent, Arwyn Jones.

Today, Sanjeev Gupta, the only prospective buyer to come

forward to take on Tata's strip steel business, has said he is "not

married" to a buyout - suggesting he could walk away

from a potential deal, if the government fails

to meet his terms on workers' pensions and energy costs.

During a BBC Wales election debate this morning,

all parties gave their support to the workers.

The Assembly candidates also gave their views on the what should

review in the way business rates are funded and

managed in terms of the use of state aid rules,

they are limited in the amount that that can be intervened.

In terms of procurement for Tata, EU procurement laws limit us to having

-- procurement laws limit us from having a preference for Welsh

companies. For others there is a role

for the welsh government to help,not only in Tata,

but elsewhere, too. We seem to be using the same

strategy of the 1970s and 1980s where the government is giving up

grant aid rather than working alongside companies, management and

workforce together, to come up with a

sustainable long-term strategy. As well as offering support

for Tata, Labour says Government can also boost the economy by investing,

like the last government's schools 21st-century schools, we have been

investing almost ?2 billion And we've got to remember

that what we've done is to use procurement as a tool

to really build the companies The M4 relief road is another

potential infrastructure boost But parties disagree

on whether or not it's worth using the Welsh Government's

entire billion pound I want to see us taking a slightly

broader stance We ask ourselves not how can

we build roads, we ask how can we make sure

that people and goods can move around freely around our own area

and into and out of other areas. There was also a consensus that

smaller businesses And inward investment, looking

after those that come in better and also marketing more

effectively so that we can't draw in The issues around selling Tata Steel

have dominated the headlines over the past days and weeks

and dominated the Assembly The formal sale process

will begin tomorrow. North Wales Police say

they are becoming increasingly concerned about a 57-year-old woman

it needs more detail before it can get behind a ?100 million takeover

of the club. It's emerged that two

American investors are in talks about a deal -

it emerged a takeover that could change the club's fortunes

the club confirmed it an agreement to bring

in a major new shareholder would have a controlling interest
