The Elite Performance Director of Sport Wales has told BBC Wales

that he sees no reason to postpone the Rio Olympics, to halt

health experts have written to the World Health Organisation

saying it's "unethical" for the Games to go ahead.

Here are some of the Welsh faces who are due to travel to Rio for the

Olympic Games this summer. Whether boxers, triathletes or swimmers,

they have packed their eyes on the prize for years. Now the outbreak of

the Zika virus has led scientists around the world to question whether

athletes should be asked to go to the Rio Olympics. The virus is

linked to serious birth defects. The fear is that athletes could contract

Zika and bring it home but the World Health Organisation has dismissed

the concerns. The man responsible for the Welsh Olympic hopefuls says

Sport Wales are confident in the official guidance given by the

authorities. It is pretty simple guidance, to try to stay away from

the areas where mosquitoes might proliferate, stagnant water areas,

that type, swamp conditions. Their advice is to wear long clothing,

long trousers rather than shorts, and use a particular type of

repellent which has a high concentration of deet. Some Welsh

athletes are considering flying into Rio for the event and flying out

against rate afterwards in order to limit their risks but officials say

in reality a lot of them won't even have considered the issue, they are

so focused on performance and their main aim - coming home with a medal.
