As we head into the peak of the holiday season it is becoming more

difficult to find any hot weather in the forecast but don't give up on

the summer, temperatures edging down back to nearer normal. Certainly an

increasing chance of seeing some showers turning up later in the

week. The jet stream is the key to the forecast, the winds that blow

around about the height that you fly away on your holiday. It is allowing

warm air to come up from the southern regions, but it is now

starting to creep further southwards. The difficulty for the

forecast is knowing how far south it goes because the more it dips, the

more unsettled weather tends to become, and cooler as well. At lower

levels, the winds are blowing fairly briskly bringing some showers as

well, and they will turn heavier towards the end of the night. A few

showers find their way into northern England as well but essentially for

much of England and Wales, another fine and dry day with sunshine

coming through. In that sunshine it will feel quite pleasant, but not

quite as hot as today. It will be cooler further north, 18-20?, made

cooler by the fact we have a brisk wind blowing in from the west. That

is cooler than the athletes might like in the session of athletics.

The showers may be edging a wee bit southwards into parts of Wales and

the Midlands, but similar temperatures. It will feel

pleasantly warm. Once we get through to Friday, we will see low-pressure

dominating the scene as the jet stream starts to dig further

southwards so a scattering of showers on Friday. At the moment the

best estimate is that Saturday is the day that we are most likely to

see the widespread showers, temperatures a little bit lower

generally, and on Sunday it will push away unsettled weather into

more northern areas, drier weather pushing into the south. Some
