windy weather on the way in the run-up to Christmas. The worst of

the weather to the northern half of the UK. We have a strengthening jet

them to the north-west of Scotland, hence the wind and rain. Tonight, we

have gale force winds in the north-west of Scotland. Wintry

showers here. There is still come rain to clear from the south-east.

England. Chilly where skies clear, particularly in the countryside, not

far away from freezing. Further north we keep the showers going

through the night and into the morning for the rush-hour. The

threat of some icy roads, particularly on higher level routes

in Scotland. A lot of showers through the day on Thursday. Showers

to Northern Ireland also. In the morning, in particular, we will see

the showers moving over the Irish Sea into north-west England, Wales

and the south-west of England, too. Away from here, Midlands, eastern

England, probably starting dry, cold, bright, sunshine coming

through, away from that fog in the south-east. That shouldn't last too

long in the morning. Then much of England, eastern England, will be

dry and sunny. We have a few showers out towards the west. The more

frequent and heavier showers and the stronger winds are in the north

of-west. Atrocious weather over the hills and the mountains of Scotland.

Here it will feel cold. Chillier feel further south. Here not as

windy. There should be a loft sunshine. By the time we get into

Friday the wind will pick up again. This is our second named storm of

the season, Barbara, that deep area of low pressure running to the north

of Scotland. That weather front will bring some rain, heavy possibly

across Scotland and Northern Ireland. The main focus is the

strength of the wind. We still have this Amber wind warning from The Met

office. The winds will strengthening into the evening time. Gusts of

80-90mph to the north, north-west of Scotland. Northern Ireland, north

Wales, gusts of 60-70mph. By Christmas Eve morning the wind won't

be as strong. Blustery showers to northern parts of the UK. Snow in

the hills still. Further south bright and breezy, largely dry.
