Adrian Lynch's family say they accept he died in an accident.

:00:15.:00:16.

Good evening and welcome to the late news from BBC Channel Islands.

:00:17.:00:19.

Is Jersey really worth 14 billion to the UK economx?

:00:20.:00:24.

More they public relations dxercise then a work of economic analysis. We

:00:25.:00:41.

do not know what the origins of the money are.

:00:42.:00:45.

The family of Jersey man Adrian Lynch, who was missing

:00:46.:00:48.

for months before his body was found, say they've been

:00:49.:00:51.

brought some comfort, despite being unable to find out

:00:52.:00:53.

His inquest closed today, ruling the cause of 20-year,old s

:00:54.:00:58.

Adrian's family say they "truly believe" it was an "unfortunate

:00:59.:01:03.

This was the moment Adrian Lynch was no longer missing.

:01:04.:01:12.

His body was found here at Handois reservoir on the 4th August

:01:13.:01:15.

by Jersey Water employees, dight months after he had disappe`red

:01:16.:01:20.

How or why the 20-year-old electrician ended up

:01:21.:01:22.

there after a work Christmas party was a mystery.

:01:23.:01:26.

And now, despite the inquest into his death being formally

:01:27.:01:29.

Adrian's family were here for the final hearing

:01:30.:01:35.

But the answers they were hoping for weren't delivered.

:01:36.:01:39.

They heard from Steven Milldr - the cab driver who picked Adrian up

:01:40.:01:43.

Mr Miller told Advocate Harris there was some confusion ovdr

:01:44.:01:51.

I did feel slightly responshble but didn't know what else to do

:01:52.:01:56.

He was quite firm about dropping him off at the road.

:01:57.:01:59.

Adrian's mother, Mameal, told Mr Miller - I want you to know

:02:00.:02:02.

The inquest heard that Jersdy Police had previously used specialhst

:02:03.:02:07.

equipment and recovery dogs to search the reservoir,

:02:08.:02:10.

but the deep water and limited access meant some areas werd unable

:02:11.:02:14.

to be properly searched, including the area where Adrian was found

:02:15.:02:20.

The forensic pathologist who carried out the postmortem told the inquest

:02:21.:02:23.

There was no evidence of injuries or third-party involvement.

:02:24.:02:31.

Dr Cook said there was no evidence to show that Ady was anywhere other

:02:32.:02:35.

than the reservoir for the dntire time he was missing.

:02:36.:02:39.

The Deputy Viscount summed tp Adrian's death as a tragic one.

:02:40.:02:42.

It's thought he lost his wax and possibly fell or stumbldd

:02:43.:02:45.

There's still lots of questhons unanswered, and no cause of death.

:02:46.:02:52.

Following today's verdict, Adrian's family released

:02:53.:02:54.

They say he will always be remembered for being a decent,

:02:55.:03:23.

funny, caring, hardworking, fun loving young man.

:03:24.:03:32.

Jersey's finance industry h`s hit back at claims the latest rdsearch

:03:33.:03:35.

into its value to the UK and EU economies is nothing but sphn.

:03:36.:03:40.

Last week, figures showed the industry added ?14 billhon

:03:41.:03:42.

to the UK economy in 2015, but a tax campaigner has described

:03:43.:03:50.

The update published last wdek said that jersey economy benefitdd by ?14

:03:51.:04:11.

billion. It included money towards building bridges, warehouses and

:04:12.:04:15.

shopping malls. For the first time, the exercise was repeated looking at

:04:16.:04:20.

Josay's impact on the Europdan economies. The EU benefited by 80

:04:21.:04:28.

billion euros. Not all agred it is revealed the picture of how valuable

:04:29.:04:34.

temple is. It is more of a public relations exercise than a gdnuine

:04:35.:04:38.

work of economic analysis. We do not know what the origins of thd money

:04:39.:04:44.

are. Those huge sums of mondy flowing through Jersey and hnto

:04:45.:04:48.

Europe, we need to note is that many legitimate in origin? Has it been

:04:49.:04:55.

transferred legitimately? Is it going into legitimate investment?

:04:56.:05:00.

Clearly some are not convinced. Those behind the research are happy.

:05:01.:05:16.

Well Geoff Cook is the Chief Executive of Jersey Finance Limited

:05:17.:05:19.

He joined me in the studio earlier and I put it to him

:05:20.:05:23.

The first thing I would say is that it is not

:05:24.:05:27.

In that sense, it is not marketing or spin.

:05:28.:05:30.

It is an independent report by a firm called

:05:31.:05:32.

They advise governments, employ 60 economists.

:05:33.:05:35.

Five were here for nearly shx months compiling the report.

:05:36.:05:37.

It is a pretty thorough piece of work.

:05:38.:05:39.

Is that really beneficial to these economies?

:05:40.:05:42.

We provide through Jersey, attracting money from other parts of

:05:43.:05:48.

the world, in Jersey, it is packaged in the right vehicle

:05:49.:05:52.

In the UK's instance, that is 500 billion sterling.

:05:53.:06:01.

And in 5% of the foreign direct investment

:06:02.:06:03.

It means it is 5% of all the investment that comes

:06:04.:06:09.

It goes into things like warehouses, factories and offices.

:06:10.:06:17.

Real things, supporting the real economy.

:06:18.:06:19.

What the report doesn't show in as much detail is that there

:06:20.:06:22.

is value for Jersey is well and this.

:06:23.:06:24.

We are supporting a quarter of the jobs

:06:25.:06:27.

The value of drugs seized in Jersey has trebled over

:06:28.:06:33.

Jersey police and customs officers found one point three million pounds

:06:34.:06:38.

worth of illegal drugs in 2014 so far this year they've

:06:39.:06:43.

seized three point eight million pounds worth.

:06:44.:06:51.

In that time 22 people have been accused of drugs

:06:52.:06:53.

trafficking offences, most of them were Jersey residents -

:06:54.:06:55.

and three of them were under the age of 18.

:06:56.:06:58.

Guernsey Police have confirled the body found in Beaucette Marina

:06:59.:07:00.

earlier this week is that of William Machay.

:07:01.:07:02.

The body of the 59-year-old was discovered in the water early

:07:03.:07:05.

He's not from Guernsey and his family have been told.

:07:06.:07:08.

The police are not treating his death as suspicious.

:07:09.:07:21.

When you make a 999 called `n ambulance it is vital peopld know

:07:22.:07:30.

who the trainers are and whdre they who the trainers are and whdre they

:07:31.:07:32.

are from. Wednesday morning in the London

:07:33.:07:50.

ambulance control centre and a normal day.

:07:51.:07:53.

But as you might expect, not so much for Guernsey,

:07:54.:07:56.

where the control room is gdnerally a little quieter.

:07:57.:07:58.

Back home, our control room is a lot bigger.

:07:59.:08:00.

We have about 100 staff working power shift and we take 5000

:08:01.:08:06.

In Guernsey, there's about ` dozen medical emergencies each dax.

:08:07.:08:12.

But the job of those taking the calls and the systems

:08:13.:08:15.

Once we have the address, we will verify it.

:08:16.:08:18.

And this week, two of the London ambulance team have been

:08:19.:08:21.

We have been over here to mdntor the staff, observe, share

:08:22.:08:34.

It is just making sure that they know they have also bought.

:08:35.:08:39.

Only one call at a time, and that is the same in London.

:08:40.:08:46.

Next the staff swap will happen the other way round.

:08:47.:08:50.

It will be useful for them to go back to London and experience

:08:51.:08:53.

the control centre there with the volume

:08:54.:08:55.

it's hoped they'll be better equipped to respond to medical

:08:56.:09:01.

Will we see some sunshine for the end of half term?

:09:02.:09:10.

For us weather forecasters, this weather pattern is rather boring. A

:09:11.:09:19.

bit dull. We keep a lot of clout for bit dull. We keep a lot of clout for

:09:20.:09:25.

the next couple of days. Brhefly some sunshine. This was a great

:09:26.:09:29.

photograph of the sunrise in Guernsey. The cloud has been pretty

:09:30.:09:34.

change in the weather pattern. It change in the weather pattern. It

:09:35.:09:38.

stays dry. Slowly some brightness. Briefly some sunny spells. The

:09:39.:09:44.

reason for all of this cloud is it is trapped in an area of high

:09:45.:09:47.

pressure that does not move to kill any far away from us over the next

:09:48.:09:52.

24-hour is. It does move into the weekend. That made promise lore in

:09:53.:09:57.

the way of sunshine. That is the position of the area of high

:09:58.:10:01.

pressure for tomorrow. By S`turday it is moving further to the east.

:10:02.:10:05.

can draw in some slightly clearer can draw in some slightly clearer

:10:06.:10:12.

skies from France and northdrn Spain. An extensive sheet of cloud

:10:13.:10:17.

overnight. A bit of missed here and there. Temperatures down to eight, 9

:10:18.:10:21.

degrees. Tomorrow the cloud is stubborn and will be with us for

:10:22.:10:27.

much of the day. We may see a few holes in the cloud allowing some

:10:28.:10:31.

time to come through. Light winds and a high of 14 degrees. The

:10:32.:10:35.

forecast further afield is for more sunshine. Eastern parts of Spain and

:10:36.:10:42.

Portugal and southern Francd. The rain extends right across northern

:10:43.:10:46.

France and as far as Denmark. Here, not only rather grey but also cold.

:10:47.:10:55.

12, 13 the top temperature. A lot of clout around on Saturday and a

:10:56.:10:59.

better chance to see the sunshine on Sunday. Have a good night. Good

:11:00.:11:01.

night. fine and dry and on the mild side.

:11:02.:11:06.

My colleague Helen Willetts has with the national
