Good evening and welcome to BBC London news with me, Louisa Preston. | :00:00. | :00:14.
Hundreds of people were forced to flee a west London pub | :00:15. | :00:17.
during a New Year's Eve party in the early hours of this morning. | :00:18. | :00:21.
The Aeronaut pub in Acton was engulfed by flames | :00:22. | :00:23.
during the celebrations and more than 300 people had | :00:24. | :00:26.
The fire alarm started going off, started seeing smoke come up | :00:27. | :00:35.
And then we realised that downstairs was on fire. | :00:36. | :00:44.
Last night, during a packed New Year's Eve party, | :00:45. | :00:46.
Hundreds of people had enjoyed a circus show, just hours before. | :00:47. | :00:56.
Jackie, who arranged and performed in it, | :00:57. | :00:58.
She was saved by her friends, Billy ad Earl. | :00:59. | :01:05.
Too much smoke came up, and we couldn't see or breathe. | :01:06. | :01:14.
Billy and Earl managed to get us out onto the balcony. | :01:15. | :01:18.
Her friend Angeliqua, also a performer, was | :01:19. | :01:24.
It was quite scary, and then this lady... | :01:25. | :01:28.
There was a lady that started shouting, "Move away, | :01:29. | :01:31.
It wasn't just the bravery of ordinary members of the public. | :01:32. | :01:46.
Officers from the next-door police station also helped | :01:47. | :01:48.
Today fire teams inspected the damage from the blaze. | :01:49. | :01:53.
Six people, including some officers, were taken to hospital suffering | :01:54. | :01:55.
from smoke inhalation or minor injuries. | :01:56. | :01:58.
The cause of the fire isn't known, although several people we spoke | :01:59. | :02:01.
to at the pub say they saw a Christmas tree go up in flames. | :02:02. | :02:05.
The London Fire Brigade are investigating to find | :02:06. | :02:09.
out what started this New Year's Eve inferno. | :02:10. | :02:14.
Passengers using Southern Rail services have been warned that | :02:15. | :02:16.
trains will be severely disrupted tomorrow at the end of another three | :02:17. | :02:19.
And we'd like to hear from you if you've been affected | :02:20. | :02:25.
We're hosting a televised debate next Sunday. | :02:26. | :02:29.
If you'd like to take part, email your details, | :02:30. | :02:35.
Now, more than 8,000 performers from around the world have taken | :02:36. | :02:39.
part in London's New Year's Day Parade. | :02:40. | :02:42.
This year's theme was blockbuster movies and despite the rain | :02:43. | :02:45.
Londoners and tourists lined the route. | :02:46. | :02:48.
It's a positively cheery start to 2017, watched | :02:49. | :02:55.
The annual New Year's Day Parade in central London gets | :02:56. | :03:01.
bigger every year and, in light of recent terrorist attacks | :03:02. | :03:03.
in Europe, 3000 extra police were drafted in. | :03:04. | :03:08.
Both the Mayor and Scotland Yard have said there would be extra | :03:09. | :03:11.
Organisers say they want people to feel safe. | :03:12. | :03:18.
The theme of this year's parade was Hollywood movies | :03:19. | :03:21.
and many of the Londoners who took part acted out famous films. | :03:22. | :03:25.
We've got 17 London boroughs represented here today, | :03:26. | :03:29.
8500 performers, around about 4000 of which have come | :03:30. | :03:31.
We are called Alexis I Tiger Marching Band | :03:32. | :03:35.
and we're from Wilmington, Delaware in the US. | :03:36. | :03:38.
What's it like to be in London for this? | :03:39. | :03:40.
And for some, the event had extra meaning. | :03:41. | :03:47.
These children were from the St Christopher's Hospice | :03:48. | :03:49.
I was asking, how does it feel to participate? | :03:50. | :03:53.
What they said was that it felt like they were being part | :03:54. | :03:57.
of a larger community, that they were represented, | :03:58. | :04:02.
that they were being seen and that they were also honouring | :04:03. | :04:05.
For some of them, it could be one of the last big things | :04:06. | :04:15.
There was heavy rain later in the afternoon, | :04:16. | :04:18.
Let's find out what the weather's going to be like tomorrow. | :04:19. | :04:22.
It was a rather damp start to the New Year. | :04:23. | :04:26.
As we head to the overnight, that rain will push | :04:27. | :04:28.
So, a lot of cloud and first thing in the | :04:29. | :04:32.
As we head through the day, we'll see increasing | :04:33. | :04:40.
But it will be a very cold day, despite | :04:41. | :04:43.
For Monday night coming to Tuesday, we are expecting a widespread frost. | :04:44. | :04:48.
You will need some extra time to scrape the windscreen if you are | :04:49. | :04:51.
Staying cold and frosty for the rest of the week. | :04:52. | :04:57.
For many, New Year's Day was a shocker with all of that rain | :04:58. | :05:14.
around. Tomorrow will be sunny, but it is getting colder. This is rain | :05:15. | :05:18.
clearing from the south-east. These specks of white as snow mixed in | :05:19. | :05:22.
with showers across parts of northern England, particularly | :05:23. | :05:25.
across Scotland, low levels here. I say that they hazard in northern and | :05:26. | :05:30.
eastern areas. I would not rule out slippery areas almost anywhere by | :05:31. | :05:35.
the morning, by which time temperatures will be close to or | :05:36. | :05:39.
below freezing in many places. A bright and sunny start, but still | :05:40. | :05:43.
wintry showers, sliding down the North Sea coast. Some snow down at | :05:44. | :05:47.
quite low levels to the north of Scotland. Here, the snow will turn | :05:48. | :05:52.
to rain. Something milder creeping in off the Atlantic | :05:53. | :05:53. |
