It's not often smoke bombs are ignited in Knightsbridge,

:00:00.:00:15.

but that's what happened today, outside Harrods -

:00:16.:00:18.

The ones left to restaurant staff in the world famous department store -

:00:19.:00:24.

which the multi-billion pound owners of Harrods are accused

:00:25.:00:27.

Chanting, a smoke bomb and arrests - not what's expected on a Saturday

:00:28.:00:42.

This demonstration was in support of Harrods restaurant staff,

:00:43.:00:48.

who it's claimed are not allowed to keep most of their tips.

:00:49.:00:53.

The day before yesterday, they did admit that it had been

:00:54.:00:56.

taking 50% with no explanation as to why they were hanging onto it.

:00:57.:00:59.

We've had access to the internal records of Harrods and it is

:01:00.:01:06.

Many London restaurant staff are allowed to keep their tips.

:01:07.:01:12.

Some managers say that doesn't just bolster their relatively low wages.

:01:13.:01:18.

If it's a good establishment, if they are making good tips,

:01:19.:01:21.

then people are likely to be loyal and remain in the business

:01:22.:01:25.

for a long time and if that happens, the business benefits from loyalty

:01:26.:01:27.

of the staff, and of those customers who are actually

:01:28.:01:32.

coming in and making the business a success.

:01:33.:01:36.

But there's anger over Harrods and other businesses

:01:37.:01:41.

using a so-called tronc system of dividing up the service

:01:42.:01:43.

In a statement, Harrods said they employ 450 staff in six

:01:44.:01:54.

different restaurants and they all earn above the living

:01:55.:01:56.

wage, but they say they are looking into the way they distribute service

:01:57.:01:59.

charges to see if it can be improved.

:02:00.:02:06.

A woman from Buckinghamshire is leading a campaign for CCTV to be

:02:07.:02:09.

installed in all dementia care facilities, after claiming she saw

:02:10.:02:13.

serious failings in the care given to her mother.

:02:14.:02:17.

Jayne Connery wants the government to take action, but not everyone

:02:18.:02:19.

Jayne Connery has had her own bad experiences of care home provision.

:02:20.:02:29.

She now looks after her 80-year-old mum at home, after capturing poor

:02:30.:02:33.

He's turned off the light, which states in her care plan,

:02:34.:02:40.

she must have a small light on at all times.

:02:41.:02:42.

And more importantly, he's closed the door shut.

:02:43.:02:45.

In the care plan it asks not to do this.

:02:46.:02:50.

And that's because she's got problem with sight?

:02:51.:02:52.

With a stint on Big Brother raising awareness about dementia,

:02:53.:02:57.

she is now leading a campaign for CCTV cameras to be made

:02:58.:03:03.

mandatory in communal areas in care homes.

:03:04.:03:07.

It's not about having CCTV to watch carers.

:03:08.:03:12.

It's about safeguarding the carers, protecting the residents,

:03:13.:03:22.

and it would act as a huge positive training tool.

:03:23.:03:26.

But those in the care home business say it isn't that simple

:03:27.:03:28.

Both staff and residents may feel uncomfortable to have cameras,

:03:29.:03:34.

so their natural rights and dignity is being impeached by these actions.

:03:35.:03:40.

We want a happy family approach, not something which is somebody

:03:41.:03:43.

looking over other people's shoulders and the like all the time.

:03:44.:03:50.

The Care Quality Commission don't support the idea either, preferring

:03:51.:03:54.

But Jayne's thousands of social media supporters suggest

:03:55.:03:59.

there is certainly sympathy for her campaign.

:04:00.:04:08.

A month ago, footballer Cohen Bramall was playing

:04:09.:04:10.

for non-league Hednesford Town, whilst also working

:04:11.:04:13.

This month, he's playing for Arsenal.

:04:14.:04:16.

The 20-year-old left back - shown here as he scores

:04:17.:04:18.

an impressive goal - has described his move

:04:19.:04:20.

He said meeting manager Arsene Wenger and the players

:04:21.:04:25.

Expect cloud, but it will be mostly dry.

:04:26.:04:38.

Finally, let me tell you about a debate programme we've

:04:39.:04:42.

got for you on Monday - on the problems on Southern Rail

:04:43.:04:44.

and the impact it's having on commuters.

:04:45.:04:47.

You can watch and hear some strong views and opinions on the matter,

:04:48.:04:50.

Good evening. Our weather can be exciting, just not today. A

:04:51.:05:16.

predominantly grey day and a murky night to come. If you're on the moon

:05:17.:05:20.

on the roads, through tonight into the morning, it could be misty and

:05:21.:05:24.

foggy again in places, especially over the hills, but really just

:05:25.:05:28.

about anywhere. The cloud is the enough to produce patchy rain or

:05:29.:05:32.

drizzle, quite a damp night. Clear skies to the Easterling and

:05:33.:05:34.

anti-stall Scotland and it's here the greatest chance of a touch of

:05:35.:05:43.

frost, but for most, mild great, dismal start to Sunday morning. The

:05:44.:05:45.

mist and fog will lift. There will be a few breaks in the cloud, east

:05:46.:05:49.

of Wales, eastern parts of England and Scotland. A bit of sunshine

:05:50.:05:54.

here. There should be patchy rain in Northern Ireland and damper to

:05:55.:05:58.

finish the Dayne Weston Scotland. Overall a mild day for this stage in

:05:59.:06:01.

January with temperatures are many in double figures. Different on

:06:02.:06:04.

Monday, a wet and windy start

:06:05.:06:06.
