A Yorkshire MEP is reported to the French police following a clash

:00:00.:00:11.

One thing I am guilty of is going into that room. I should not have

:00:12.:00:23.

done that and I apologise. Too much focus on renewables

:00:24.:00:25.

and not enough on tourism - the head of Pleasure Island

:00:26.:00:27.

criticises the council A Hull-based Euro-MP has bedn told

:00:28.:00:30.

off by his party but cleared of starting the argument th`t left

:00:31.:00:48.

a fellow Ukip This afternoon Ukip released

:00:49.:00:52.

the findings of an internal report into the row

:00:53.:00:59.

between Mike Hookem and Steven Earlier the president

:01:00.:01:01.

of the European Parliament said he'd asked French Police

:01:02.:01:04.

to investigate what happened. It's still not clear exactlx

:01:05.:01:10.

what happened in that heated exchange at the European Parliament

:01:11.:01:14.

almost three weeks ago. MEP Steven Woolfe spent

:01:15.:01:18.

three nights in hospital after collapsing on the day

:01:19.:01:22.

the altercation took place. Yorkshire and Humber MEP Mike Hookem

:01:23.:01:25.

has admitetd that a scuffle took place but has denied punching

:01:26.:01:29.

Mr Woolfe following an argulent I have stuck by that

:01:30.:01:32.

because it's the truth. Ukip's party chairman today said

:01:33.:01:38.

he considered suspending Mike Hookem but decided to hssue

:01:39.:01:41.

a formal reprimand because he was satisfied Mr Hookem

:01:42.:01:45.

wasn't the insitigator. One thing I am guilty of is rising

:01:46.:01:48.

to the bait and going into that I should not have done that

:01:49.:01:52.

and I apologise to the partx Today the president

:01:53.:01:56.

of the European Parliament Lartin Schulz called for an investhgation

:01:57.:02:03.

by French police because of what he claimed were the serious

:02:04.:02:08.

and possible criminal implications. between the two men

:02:09.:02:11.

diverged substantially. Mr Schulz said medical reports

:02:12.:02:17.

suggested that Steven Woolfd Mike Hookem has hit back, accusing

:02:18.:02:20.

the European Parliament president punched of making declamatory

:02:21.:02:27.

statements which falsely He also claimed those

:02:28.:02:30.

accusations wouldn't have been made without

:02:31.:02:37.

legal immunity the European Parliament offers.

:02:38.:02:40.

Any French police investigation I will welcome because

:02:41.:02:43.

it will once again prove that I am innocent.

:02:44.:02:46.

Steven Woolfe, once seen as a rising star in Ukip and possible

:02:47.:02:50.

leadership contender, has now left the party,

:02:51.:02:53.

It's now down to the French authorities to decide whethdr anyone

:02:54.:03:00.

Roger Helmer is a Ukip MEP for the East Midlands

:03:01.:03:06.

who was in the room when the incident took placd.

:03:07.:03:09.

Earlier I asked him whether it was all getting ` bit

:03:10.:03:12.

I'm not sure it isn't getting more and more embarrassing for the

:03:13.:03:18.

We've now had two investigations, one by the

:03:19.:03:21.

party and one by the Parlialent Standards Committee,

:03:22.:03:24.

are unable to determine what actually happened between the two

:03:25.:03:28.

men and against that background we've had the President of the

:03:29.:03:32.

Parliament and a prominent German MEP, Manfred Weber,

:03:33.:03:36.

who have both said within the

:03:37.:03:38.

parliament hemicycle, that Mike Hookem he hit Steven Woolfe.

:03:39.:03:43.

They have no evidence of th`t and their own report says it

:03:44.:03:47.

is impossible to say exactlx what happened so it is prepostorous

:03:48.:03:51.

that they would make unsubstantiated allegations

:03:52.:03:54.

Are you convinced that Mr Woolfe had not been

:03:55.:03:59.

hit or punched by Mr Hookem because Mr Hookem says he was and this

:04:00.:04:03.

is where there is this discrepancy although maybe we will never know?

:04:04.:04:06.

Well, I certainly saw Mr Woolfe get up and challenge Mike Hookel to come

:04:07.:04:13.

outside so it is absolutely clear that Steven Woolfe was the

:04:14.:04:15.

I then saw Steven Woolfe maxbe ten or 20 seconds later come

:04:16.:04:21.

back in through the door by which he had left.

:04:22.:04:24.

He came in backwards, falling backwards and he was seen to

:04:25.:04:27.

hit his head on a wooden ledge on a glass window and I asstme that

:04:28.:04:32.

any subsequent injury to Mr Woolfe was the

:04:33.:04:35.

result of that blow on the head from his falling down.

:04:36.:04:38.

I can confirm that he did not appear to have been

:04:39.:04:41.

There was no visible bruising, there was no blood on his

:04:42.:04:44.

face, no teeth missing, his tie was not askew.

:04:45.:04:47.

He resumed his seat and

:04:48.:04:49.

continued to speak in a normal voice.

:04:50.:04:51.

So, I can't tell you whether he was hit or not but I can

:04:52.:04:55.

Mr Hookem says today with this internal report that he has been

:04:56.:05:01.

Is that how you see it and can he actually survive this, do you

:05:02.:05:05.

Cleared, he has been critichsed for rising to the bait

:05:06.:05:11.

What he did when he was outside we will not be

:05:12.:05:15.

I think the report which I have just read a few minutes ago

:05:16.:05:20.

I think it was appropriate that Mike be

:05:21.:05:23.

reprimanded for that behaviour for which he has apologised

:05:24.:05:26.

but I attach greater blame to Steven Woolfe who

:05:27.:05:29.

The Grantham and Stamford MP, Nick Boles, has announced that

:05:30.:05:39.

doctors have found a cancerous tumour in his head.

:05:40.:05:43.

He's due to start treatment and has apologised for having to withdraw

:05:44.:05:47.

from a demonstration against reduced hours at Grantham A

:05:48.:05:50.

Prime Minister Theresa May wished Mr Boles well in the Commons.

:05:51.:05:58.

I just want to pay tribute to the member for Grantham

:05:59.:06:00.

and Stamford for the social media messages sent out this mornhng.

:06:01.:06:04.

It shows amazing humour and bravery and we wish him all the verx

:06:05.:06:07.

best and hope he fully recovers from this.

:06:08.:06:10.

Can I also join him in commdnding my honourable friend,

:06:11.:06:13.

the member for Grantham and Stamford, for being willing

:06:14.:06:16.

to be so open about the health problem that he has and we wish him

:06:17.:06:21.

It goes without saying that we also offer him the very best.

:06:22.:06:28.

A double decker bus has caught fire at Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire.

:06:29.:06:31.

Crews from Lincolnshire and Norfolk fire and rescue both attenddd

:06:32.:06:34.

the incident which took place just after 3:00 this afternoon.

:06:35.:06:38.

This footage was taken by a passer-by.

:06:39.:06:40.

Plans to bring together all parts of Lincolnshire to apply for more

:06:41.:06:43.

powers from the Government have been approved by councillors in Spalding.

:06:44.:06:45.

South Holland District Council was the last to decide

:06:46.:06:49.

whether to support the creation of a Greater Lincolnshire Atthority,

:06:50.:06:53.

which would involve an elected mayor.

:06:54.:06:56.

County Councillors rejected the proposals last week.

:06:57.:07:00.

Too much focus on offshore wind and not enough effort

:07:01.:07:04.

on promoting the area - the criticism tonight

:07:05.:07:07.

of North East Lincolnshire Council from the owner of Pleasure Hsland.

:07:08.:07:11.

The Cleethorpe theme park shut today for the final time after allost

:07:12.:07:15.

Bosses blame falling visitor numbers.

:07:16.:07:20.

Melanie Wood is the owner of Pleasure Island.

:07:21.:07:23.

Earlier I asked her why she decided to shut the park down.

:07:24.:07:28.

It just got to the point where the business was no

:07:29.:07:34.

We have tried hard for many years to make it work and it wasn't and it

:07:35.:07:40.

just came to the point where enough was enough.

:07:41.:07:44.

But other similar sorts of venue and outfit managed to

:07:45.:07:49.

You had a good position, a great position, you can't really

:07:50.:07:53.

It certainly played a large part of why

:07:54.:07:58.

we haven't succeeded, being on the north-east coast.

:07:59.:08:01.

We do get it a lot harsher than other places.

:08:02.:08:04.

I do believe we have a micro climate at Cleethorpes.

:08:05.:08:07.

But you are right, it's not the only contributing factor.

:08:08.:08:13.

We don't have the financial support that a

:08:14.:08:19.

lot of the other big theme parks have.

:08:20.:08:22.

Sadly, it wasn't enough to keep the business going.

:08:23.:08:26.

Do you think that businesses in the resort get enough

:08:27.:08:30.

support and backing from the local council?

:08:31.:08:33.

I do believe that Cleethorpes lacks a lot

:08:34.:08:43.

There is no budget for tourism, or rather

:08:44.:08:49.

there is a very small budget for tourism.

:08:50.:08:52.

I do think Cleethorpes has suffered as a result of that.

:08:53.:08:55.

There has been a lot of time, money and

:08:56.:08:58.

effort put into renewables hn the area and that is very commendable

:08:59.:09:02.

but unfortunately I think tourism has suffered as a result.

:09:03.:09:06.

This is very, very sad for the resort,

:09:07.:09:08.

What would you say then to the council with regard

:09:09.:09:13.

finger out on tourism and backing tourism?

:09:14.:09:17.

I think they need to get out there and talk to

:09:18.:09:20.

businesses, talk to the people involved in tourism, and find

:09:21.:09:23.

out what is going on, find out what we can do togdther

:09:24.:09:26.

to make Cleethorpes the place people want to visit.

:09:27.:09:30.

There are so many places out there, we need to be at the forefront of

:09:31.:09:34.

people's minds when they ard considering a day out and at the

:09:35.:09:37.

Thank you very much indeed for your time.

:09:38.:09:42.

The weather is next. It has been another lovely `utumnal

:09:43.:10:01.

day with 15 degrees in Skegness this afternoon and it looks like tomorrow

:10:02.:10:05.

will be a nice day. Variabld cloud and some sunshine. The weekdnd is

:10:06.:10:10.

looking good but by Sunday lorning, the folk could become a problem

:10:11.:10:13.

That should clear drink the afternoon. At the moment, it is

:10:14.:10:17.

quiet out there. The breeze is picking up but all parts ard dry.

:10:18.:10:21.

Temperatures down to seven or 8 degrees. Tomorrow, a dry dax again

:10:22.:10:28.

with variable and sometimes large amounts of cloud but there will be

:10:29.:10:33.

sunny breaks. The wind will pick up. You will notice a fresh wind with

:10:34.:10:35.

top temperatures in the aftdrnoon of 14 Celsius. Cloudy but dry on

:10:36.:10:41.

Friday. Not a bad weekend btt an increasing chance of fog.

:10:42.:10:49.

In the morning, there will be more news, weather, traffic and sport on

:10:50.:10:56.

your local radio station. I'll see you tomorrow. Good night.

:10:57.:11:01.

looking very promising indeed. Nick Miller has the National forecast.

:11:02.:11:10.

If you like your forecast to include cold weather, this is not for you.

:11:11.:11:17.

Temperatures have been heading up, helped by sunshine showing off the

:11:18.:11:22.

autumn colours. 19 Celsius in Cheshire. Scotland, Northern Ireland

:11:23.:11:26.

and Wales got to 16 or above. The mild hour feeding around high

:11:27.:11:29.

pressure from the Atlantic will continue for the rest of the week

:11:30.:11:33.

into the weekend, even the start of next week. Not a huge amount of

:11:34.:11:36.

sunshine with

:11:37.:11:37.
