A last chance message is being given to Lincolnshire entrepreneurs

:00:09.:00:17.

to get hold of millions of pounds of European funding

:00:18.:00:20.

There's no guarantee the grants for small rural businesses

:00:21.:00:24.

A couple of months ago, Mike realised his dream.

:00:25.:00:30.

he set up a micro-brewery on a farm in Fiskerton.

:00:31.:00:35.

One of the reasons for applying for the funding was that we saw

:00:36.:00:40.

an opportunity to build a bigger project that would allow us

:00:41.:00:44.

to employ people within the local area and ensure that we grew

:00:45.:00:49.

The grant came from what's called the leader scheme,

:00:50.:00:55.

money from the European Union specifically designed to help

:00:56.:00:58.

Around ?6 million of leader funding is available across Lincolnshire.

:00:59.:01:04.

People can apply for grants, typically around ?25,000,

:01:05.:01:08.

for projects which will boost the rural economy, anything

:01:09.:01:11.

from tourism, to local produce, to heritage.

:01:12.:01:15.

The brewery may do so again if it wants to expand but the current

:01:16.:01:22.

The Brexit vote has created some uncertainty over what happens next.

:01:23.:01:29.

I don't know what arrangements will be made in the future for EU

:01:30.:01:32.

funding but obviously funding like this does help businesses.

:01:33.:01:37.

It certainly helped our business and we are spending that money wisely.

:01:38.:01:41.

Without it we wouldn't be employing the people we intend to employ.

:01:42.:01:46.

Who gets the EU money is decided at local level by local action

:01:47.:01:50.

groups and they are also unsure about the future.

:01:51.:01:53.

Obviously, things are going to change when Brexit happens

:01:54.:01:57.

but we are optimistic the government is working

:01:58.:02:00.

There will be domestic funds, we hope,

:02:01.:02:05.

and we hope to be part of those so it's wait and see.

:02:06.:02:08.

But their main message is encouraging people to apply

:02:09.:02:11.

for the leader funding now while it's definitely there.

:02:12.:02:15.

If anyone out there has got an idea, they want to know more,

:02:16.:02:18.

We asked the government if it can guarantee it will replace EU

:02:19.:02:24.

business grants for rural areas following Brexit.

:02:25.:02:28.

It told us projects will be honoured in future if they are good value

:02:29.:02:32.

for money and in line with government priorities.

:02:33.:02:35.

Mike's beers are already being sold in Lincoln pubs.

:02:36.:02:39.

He's hoping the grant scheme that has helped him and other businesses

:02:40.:02:42.

Police have released the name of a man who died in a crash

:02:43.:02:50.

David Lamming, who was 63 and from Goxhill, crashed his van

:02:51.:02:55.

Police are investigating whether he became ill at the wheel.

:02:56.:02:59.

A man who's spent 25 years trying to save a crumbling medieval tower

:03:00.:03:04.

near Hull has been awarded more than ?100,000.

:03:05.:03:07.

Simon Taylor will receive a grant of around ?160,000

:03:08.:03:11.

from Historic England to protect Paull Holme Tower, which is almost

:03:12.:03:14.

This money that we've received is really significant.

:03:15.:03:20.

It allows us to finally start repairing the brickwork

:03:21.:03:22.

We are going to put a roof on it, the building inside will be dry

:03:23.:03:28.

and hopefully when the open day comes along in September,

:03:29.:03:30.

all the public can come along and see this magnificent building.

:03:31.:03:34.

A sport for older people that was first played

:03:35.:03:37.

in East Yorkshire is gaining popularity,

:03:38.:03:39.

Walking netball clubs are being set up for people who no

:03:40.:03:43.

longer want to take part in high-speed exercise.

:03:44.:03:45.

Laura Foster reports from Anlaby, near Hull.

:03:46.:03:48.

From the brightly coloured bibs to the squeak of the trainers

:03:49.:03:51.

on the hall floor and the blow of the umpire's whistle,

:03:52.:03:53.

this sport is very similar to the sport you know from school.

:03:54.:03:56.

It makes it easier for people who have got some kind

:03:57.:04:03.

It saves some people from isolation, the older people who haven't been

:04:04.:04:09.

But the women who are part of this club say

:04:10.:04:12.

The camaraderie is absolutely brilliant.

:04:13.:04:18.

It's got me back into doing things really.

:04:19.:04:22.

Going into a gym is quite intimidating sometimes

:04:23.:04:24.

but we get new ladies here and they just

:04:25.:04:26.

It's been a lifeline for people like Pat.

:04:27.:04:31.

It's something to come out for and you make new friends.

:04:32.:04:42.

Walking netball was actually started in East Yorkshire.

:04:43.:04:46.

Since then it has been adopted by clubs across the country

:04:47.:04:50.

and moreover it is proving so popular that even more

:04:51.:04:53.

sessions are going to be held in East Yorkshire

:04:54.:04:55.

There are already clubs like this in Goole, Withernsea,

:04:56.:05:00.

Beverley and there's one in Boston, but come next year the hope

:05:01.:05:04.

is that there'll also be sessions in Stamford,

:05:05.:05:07.

Hull, Driffield, Cleethorpes and Grimsby.

:05:08.:05:09.

Hopefully it is going to get up there with walking football.

:05:10.:05:12.

We've only had women in our sessions so far.

:05:13.:05:14.

Whether in the future we get any men, who knows,

:05:15.:05:16.

but at the moment it's a lot of women.

:05:17.:05:21.

The success of sports like this shows that just because you get

:05:22.:05:28.

older doesn't mean you have to give up the things you love.

:05:29.:05:34.

Now the weather forecast with Keeley Donovan.

:05:35.:05:37.

It's cold and in places quite foggy out there at the moment.

:05:38.:05:42.

I think it will become less dense overnight as it becomes cloudier

:05:43.:05:45.

and breezier from the north, though we will have some stubborn

:05:46.:05:48.

It's chilly out there and at some point in the night temperatures

:05:49.:05:53.

will drop down to freezing, but it won't be as cold tomorrow.

:05:54.:05:57.

Having said that, we don't have as much sunshine either.

:05:58.:06:00.

We should have some breaks in the cloud.

:06:01.:06:02.

Temperatures will be a bit higher than today,

:06:03.:06:05.

about where they should be at this time of year,

:06:06.:06:08.

As for New Year's Eve, a lot of cloud, it will be breezy,

:06:09.:06:13.

but it won't be as chilly as it has been.

:06:14.:06:16.

Rain overnight and then cooler to start the New Year.

:06:17.:06:21.

Hello. Fold and frost has been a feature of the weather in recent

:06:22.:06:48.

mornings in England and Wales, producing a

:06:49.:06:49.
