Good evening.

Doctors in Lincolnshire havd launched a new project to try

to diagnose more cancers early.

A recent NHS review revealed that the county has some

of the worst rates in England.

Lincolnshire West CCG has the worst cancer detection rates

in the country - with just 33% of patients being diagnosed early.

That's compared to the national average of 50%.

After diagnosis, the current ambition is that 70% of pathents

should survive the first ye`r, but only South Lincolnshire

meets that target.

Now GPs at 12 practices will trial a new computer programme

to see whether it helps identify those most at risk.

Here's our health correspondent, Vicky Johnson.

Almost 1000 people a day are diagnosed with cancer in the UK.

Survival rates are improving, but patients have a much better

chance if the disease is diagnosed early.

How's it's going?

Not too bad, recovering.

Peter Crosby's recently had surgery to treat his lung cancer,

but initially he was given antibiotics for a persistent cough.

Took one more course, and then we decided to go

to hospital to see if there was anything on the chest.

That's when the shadow was discovered.

And it went from being an x,ray to being a CAT scan,

to a PET scan, that took...

About six weeks.

If Peter turned up at his doctors now, it's likely his cancer

diagnosis would be more prolpt, thanks to Lincolnshire's

new Find Out Faster programle.

It would be picked up a little bit more quickly.

But Find Out Faster would h`ve meant he would have had the scan

five, six weeks earlier.

At the moment, he's fine, which is great, but it could make

a difference for other patidnts

For the next six months, doctors at 12 practices

across Lincolnshire will be piloting the QCancer programme,

and this should help them predict the risk

of cancer in their patients.

We all know that even experhenced doctors sometimes fail to m`ke

a diagnosis promptly when the symptoms aren't typical.

And this tool is just something which makes them think seriously

about further investigation.

There'll also be much more rapid access to tests,

benefiting all patients.

The majority of patients th`t come through the pathway

will not have cancer.

But for them, it's the reassurance that they don't have

cancer and they can get on with their lives.

If diagnosis rates do improve, the programme will be rolled out

to all GP's surgeries in thd county.

The main road into Hull was closed for several hours today

after a crash between a car and a tractor.

The A63 was closed after the accident on the westbound

carriageway between South C`ve and North Cave.

The air ambulance was called to the scene to help

treat a casualty.

A former Ukip MEP from East Yorkshire insists

the party still has a futurd despite its recent difficulties

It follows comments made by Steven Woolfe -

who quit the party after an altercation with Hull-based MEP

Mike Hookem - claiming that Ukip is in a death spiral.

But Godfrey Bloom, who was the party's first MDP

in Yorkshire and the Humber, insists Ukip still

has many supporters.

No, it isn't in a death spiral.

There's still plenty to do, because there are a view

of people saying, well, we've had the referendum.

But as has just been said, we could still be two years

away from coming out.

So, Ukip, until we are out, Ukip has a very real job to do.

A special service was held at Lincoln cathedral last

night for its new dean.

The Very Reverend Christine Wilson is the first woman to take tp

the role in its 900-year history.

I think that I've always bedn in roles where I've had

a pioneering role, stepping into roles that have perhaps

been done by men before.

It feels raher normal, thesd days, for women to be in senior roles

and I've many friends and colleagues who are women

who are deans and bishops in the Church of England.

A Lincolnshire nursery has built what it claims is the largest

pumpkin cannon in the UK.

The six-metre cannon, created by Bells Nursery

near Boston, uses gas canisters to fire the pumpkins

hundreds of metres through the air.

We've had an absolutely brilliant response to it.

Obviously, not something yot see everyday,

especially in Lincolnshire!

But we really just did it to give the locals something to talk about,

and I think we've definitelx achieved that here today.

As we head through Monday, it's looking very much the same

Plenty of dry weather from the word go.

The cloud will thin and bre`k, and we will see good spells

of sunshine through the aftdrnoon.

One or two showers around still the breeze gradually going down

and temperatures reaching a high of 12 degrees.

As we head further into the week, Tuesday looks largely fine

and settled after a fairly frosty start, with highs of 12 Celsius
