Good afternoon. An investig`tion is underway after more than fifty

prisoners took over a wing `t a prison in Northumberland last night.

Trouble broke out at HMP Northumberland in Acklington when

inmates at the Category C j`il refused to go back to their cells.

Stuart Whincup reports. The disturbance at the jail started

just after 7:30pm last night as prison officers were trying to get

inmates back to their cells. There was a stand`off and around 40

prisoners took control of a part of the wing. As officers were trying to

contain the situation, the Prison Officers Association said rhot

officers from other areas wdre brought into the jail. Eventually,

last night, the situation w`s contained and resolved. Now,

Northumberland holds around 130 prisoners described as Category C

prisoners. A French company took over a deal to take over thd running

of the prison late last year. They said they would save the taxpayer

around ?129 million over thd course of a 15 year contract. One of the

things they said at the timd was there were plans to cut 200 jobs

here at the prison. The Prison Officers Association said that

decision would be a mistake and said it would lead to escapes and riots

at the prison. There has bedn no comment on that from the Frdnch

company today. It has said ht is looking into the event last night

and has launched an investigation. A gay couple from South Tyndside are

among the first in the country to have a same`sex wedding. Thd law

changed at midnight, meaning gay couples can now legally marry in

England and Wales. Mandy Hutchinson and Trisha Doyle got married this

morning at the register offhce in South Shields.

Today's obviously news, bec`use we are a same`sex couple, we'rd getting

married. But in the future, I would just like to see it as people

getting married, not making any difference what sexuality you are,

just for it to be the norm to say we're getting married and for people

in the future just to say the same. The search to find a student missing

in the Lake District is continuing. 20`year`old Matthew Jordan from

Middlesbrough was visiting Bowness with friends when he disappdared.

The police dive team and motntain rescue volunteers have been

searching an area around Windermere since Thursday.

There are just a few hours to go until one of the biggest boxing

contests to be staged in thd region. Darlington boxer Stuart Hall defends

his IBF world bantamweight title against Durham's Martin Ward in what

will be the first all`North East world title fight. This is what Hall

and Ward had to say at yestdrday's weigh`in ahead of the historic clash

fortunes across the North E`st and Cumbria. Cumbria certainly seeing

some hazy sunshine and having a very pleasant afternoon. Across the

north`east, a lot of this cloud and some low cloud giving a chilly,

murky afternoon. Temperaturds between 15 degrees to seven or eight

degrees on the coast. This dvening and overnight, a fairly clotdy

night. Some patches of mist and fog by dawn, but not a cold night.

Good afternoon. The clocks go forward by one hour tonight, British

Summer Time begins. Hard to believe that this was the scene exactly one

year ago in North Wales when we were in the grip of one of the coldest

springs for many a decade. A different story this weekend, of

course, with warm air wafting up from the near continent, and under

clear skies the temperatures soaring. It is not clear everywhere,

we have a lot of cloud further north and west, and with a damp start

across some areas, that cloud is thinning and trickling away,

brightening up here through this afternoon. Clear skies and sunshine

further east, wispy high cloud, temperatures topping out at 19

Celsius, possibly 20 in some spots despite a noticeable breeze. Foggy

across Lincolnshire, the south-east of Yorkshire, that has cleared away.

Brightening up here, but slow progress across the north-east of

England, just seven degrees on the coast. Cloudy across Northern
