Good evening. Passers`by have rescued six people, including a

family of five, moments before a car burst into flames in Cumbria. It

followed a two`vehicle crash on the A66 at Threlkeld this morning. The

driver and front seat passenger of a Mercedes estate car were seriously

injured. They were flown by air ambulance to the RVI in Newcastle.

They were pulled to safety, along with three children, before the

vehicle set on fire. The driver of a Ford Ranger pick`up was taken to the

Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. The road was closed for several

hours. Three people have appeared in court

charged with robbery. It's in connection with a raid on the

Cumberland Building Society in Silloth on Thursday. Two men, aged

34 and 25, and a woman, aged 30, all from the Carlisle area, appeared at

the city's Magistrates' Court today. One of the men has also been charged

with possession of an offensive weapon. All three have been remanded

in custody. Police have released CCTV footage of

a man they want to speak to in connection with an armed robbery in

Newcastle. A man, armed with two knives, entered the Nisa Store on

Two Ball Lonnen at five`thirty in the morning of January the 9th. He

tied two members of staff up before making off with cash and cigarettes.

No`one was injured during the robbery, but staff were left shaken

by it. Officers have released the CCTV in a bid to get witnesses to

come forward. 16 people braved the cold today to

take part in a baptism outside York Minster. It's the eighth year

they've held the event, during which local Christians are fully immersed

in a tank of water. The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, said

people want to make a public commitment to their faith.

The Great North Passion is open to the public for the rest of the

Easter weekend following Good Friday's live broadcast. Thousands

of people gathered at Bent's Park in South Shields for the innovative

re`telling of the Good Friday story through music, dance and artworks.

Shipping containers form a giant installation in the shape of a

cross. So what did people visiting today make of it? How so many people

have worked together, how so many people have been inspired around the

theme, it is wonderful. It is interesting to see a lot of the

video installations which have been running. A lot of the comments made

by the young ones about friendship. Probably my favourite was the

kindness one, hearing all the schoolchildren's ideas of what

kindess is in the community. For me, it is the miners one, because my

father and his father were miners, so that is the best part.

Music lovers from across the region have been queueing outside their

local independent record stores to mark the seventh annual Record Shop

Day. Exclusive vinyl recordings have been released to mark the occasion,

with some shops hosting live performances. At Hot Rats Records in

Sunderland, owner Martin Yule says there's been a resurgence of

interest in vinyl in the last two years, particularly among young

people. The big sellers today have been Joy Division 12`inch, I am

trying to think what else. There has been a mixture, Hendrix LPs have

been going well, Paul Weller seven inch, which I have got one of, but

everyone has asked for. Tame Impala, a big cross`section of stuff. Some

great reggae releases as well. Football now. Newcastle have lost

their fifth Premier League match in a row, losing 2`1 at home to

Swansea. The Magpies, lacking confidence after four successive

defeats, took the lead thanks to Shola Ameobi's finish into the

bottom corner. But Swansea equalised before the break. And a penalty in

stoppage time increased the pressure on Alan Pardew's Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are away at Chelsea and fighting to avoid

relegation. Kick`off was at 5:30 and the current score is 1`1. In the

Championship, Middlesbrough's lingering hopes of a play`off push

were killed off as struggling Millwall claimed a 2`1 win at the

Riverside. And Hartlepool United lost 3`0 away at Burton Albion in

League Two. Berwick Rangers won 1`0 at home to East Stirling in Scottish

remain dry and fine through this evening, variable amounts of cloud.

Overnight, thicker cloud starts to roll in from the east. Most parts

will remain dry. Because of the cloud, temperatures not as low as

last night. Down to around about five or six degrees in the East, but

over towards the West, as low as four degrees, if not lower in more

rural spots. The breeze starts to pick up by dawn as well. It will be

cloudy in the East. The best of the sunshine will be in Cumbria. We will

hold onto the sunshine until it starts to cloud over later. High

temperatures of 15 degrees. That's all the news and sport this

reached 18 degrees in the sunshine across parts of the Scottish

Highlands. Temperatures will drop this evening and overnight. A chilly

night again for most of us. Sky is clear to begin with, but as the

night wears on cloud will feedback back and across central and eastern

England heading into Wales as well. Further west, Scotland, Northern

Ireland and north-western part of England, there could be a touch of

frost here. A different look to the day across southern areas. More in

the way of cloud. Rain heading in as well along with a fresh, easterly

wind. We will see some places getting wet. It clearly the

afternoon. The heaviest rain likely to be south of the M4. Every now and

again you will get a bit heading towards the London area into the

South Midlands and into South Wales and the south-west. Late on in
