A Shadow Cabinet Minister h`s warned that entire hospitals

in the North East are at risk of closure as health managers

in the region try to save more than a billion pounds.

But the Government says effhciencies don't have to mean service cuts.

Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery was reacting to the new Sustainability

and Transformation Plans, which set out the scale

of the financial shortfall facing the NHS in the region.

A woman's died after an accident involving two pedestrians

Often when people are in a situation of conflict it is very hard

to meet on their own turf, so we need to bring them out

from the business of city life or conflict.

It is such a peaceful place, it is such a beautiful placd.

Work to create a fish pass on a 300-year-old weir at Lintzford,

500 tonnes of stone will be used in its construction.

Once it's completed, fish will be able to access parts

of the river that have been off-limits for centuries.

Every year migratory fish like salmon and sea trout

move upstreal to spawn, but obstructions -

like this two-metre-high weir at the River Derwent,

But the new fish pass will `llow those fish and others to move freely

That has massive impacts for the biodiversity of the catchment, but

it also has a significant fhnancial it also has a significant financial

return to the local community. For every ?1 we spent for a fish pass

like this, we get ?19 in thd local community by anglers and people

coming to enjoy the fishing experience.

The fish pass project is part of the Land of Oak

and Iron Partnership, which focuses on conserving

and cekebrating the natural, industrial and cultural herhtage

It's received more than ?2 million from the Heritage Lottery Ftnd.

We are looking to work with the trust and the local communities

some of these places are very old, and to bring it back to somd

and to bring it back to some conservation work and bring people

back into the area. The new fish pass is due to be
