Nicholls has finished sixth in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. He was

pushed out of the medal places in the slopestyle event earlier. He was

being supported back in West Yorkshire and his family invited

James Vincent to watch him compete. A cup of tea, but the telly on and

watch your brother try and get a gold medal. Come on! Yes! Jamie was

eventually nudged down to sixth place but there was family pride

both in West Yorkshire and in Eastern Europe. Fantastic. So, so

pleased for him. He has done really well. I am happy. I cannot believe

it. I am happy that we made it to the finals and we got a top ten.

Can't be more happy than that. Police are appealing for witnesses

to a road traffic accident in Halifax last night in which two men

were killed. The accident happened on Ovendon Road when a VW Golf

collided with a lamp post. A 20`year`old and a 19`year`old from

Queensbury died as a result of the impact. A rear seat passenger was

taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A woman who suffered a fractured skull when she was blown over by

strong winds around the base of Leeds' tallest building has called

for emergency measures to control gales in the area. It comes as the

owners of Bridgewater Place reveal detailed plans of how they intend to

remedy the problem. The plans include four perforated metal

baffles to slow wind speeds on Water Lane and a glass canopy around the

bottom of the building. Janet Heaton is still off work following the

incident in December. She says more urgent work is needed. I very

concerned that they do not seem to have any interim plans. It will be

two years before these are in place. What will they do in the meantime?

Do we just have to take our chances and risk being blown away again?

That is not good enough. The new Super League season got

underway last night and the Huddersfield Giants made a great

start against reigning champions Wigan Warriors. The star for

Huddersfield was 25`year`old winger Jermaine McGillvary who scored three

of the Giants' five tries. The final score was Wigan eight, Huddersfield

24. The rest of the Super League have to wait another week for their

first matches. In boxing, British Champion Kid

Galahad has announced he'll be fighting for a European title next

month in his home`town. The super bantamweight from Sheffield's Ingle

gym, will face Spaniard Sergio Prado for the vacant European title at

Ponds Forge. The fight will take place on the 22nd of March.
