Good evening. Thousands of Tour de France volunteers have gathered at

the Leeds Arena to be told they'll play a "vital" role in the Grand

Depart. The helpers will be known as tour makers, and have been selected

to advise and direct the millions of spectators expected to descend on

Yorkshire in July. Heidi Tomlinson reports. An arena full of helpers,

also known as tour makers, invited to a large get`together in Leeds to

be motivated and faint. In six weeks, thousands of these volunteers

will be selected for their friendliness, compassion and that is

my passion and common sense. We are here to make sure everything runs as

smoothly as possible. It is amazing. The atmosphere today, unbelievable.

To see all this just now, imagine what it is going to be like when the

tour arrives. I am French. I wanted to do the Tour de France three

years. My dad cycles. Irony wanted to do it. This army of volunteers

will not receive any payment or expenses, just training. But they

are being told that being a tour maker is simple. Do yourselves and

enjoyed. It was a message reinforced by Nicola Adams. It is a

once`in`a`lifetime opportunity. The Tour de France may never come back

to Yorkshire or England. Enjoy yourself and make Yorkshire pride.

Tour de France organisers hope to emulate the success of the London

2012 games makers. Alongside the athletes, the helpers became Olympic

heroes. Over 10,000 tour makers will be in position along the route,

which begins in Leeds, finishing in Harrogate. The second stage starts

at York racecourse and ends in Sheffield. Eager to help, advise and

direct, to makers will play a vital role during that weekend in July for

the sole reward of the Grand Depart ground.

The founder of a Yorkshire animal rescue sanctuary being reviewed by

the Charity watchdog, has been arrested in relation to an alleged

theft of "12,000 from the charity. 57`year`old Marianne Crowley, who

runs Wildlife Rescue Sanctuaries in Keighley, is now on bail after being

questioned earlier this month. A Look North investigation last year

found that seven pence in every pound that was donated to the

sanctuary, went towards charitable activities.

Marianne Crowley has always denied any wrongdoing.

A car has crashed into a busy supermarket in York. Witnesses say

they saw the vehicle ` which was being driven by an elderly woman `

reversing at speed into a glass window at the Waitrose store at Foss

Island. Nobody inside the store was hurt. Police say the driver ` who

was briefly trapped ` was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Onto sport, and in Super League it was a miserable afternoon for the

Bradford Bulls fans who travelled to watch their team in the south of

France. The Bulls managed just one try in their 46`4 defeat at Catalan

Dragons, with Foster going over in the second half. A rather unusual

pitch invasion gave the visiting supporters some light relief, and

briefly held up a conversion attempt by the home side. The Bulls remain

bottom of the table. Rotherham United are making their final

preparations for tomorrow's League One play`off final. The club have

sold almost 22,000 tickets for the match against Leyton Orient at

Wembley. Their manager is predicting a very close game.

They beat us away from home. We beat them here. Both games were end to

end. Both teams play similarly. Both teams have got top players. I have

got great respect for Leyton Orient. We know how tough it is going to be.
