after jumping almost 40 feet out of a window to escape a burning

building in Hastings. The fire broke out in the early hours of this

morning, and around 35 people were forced to leave their homes, as Mark

Sanders reports. Fire grip told of one home in

Hastings old town and then it ripped through several properties just

after midnight. This man's brother escaped. He woke up in the middle of

the evening. We heard somebody shouting for a fire engine and then

his room was full of smoke. He was lucky to get out. Six properties

were evacuated, with 35 people having to be escorted from buildings

in and around Marine Parade. At the property where the fire started, a

dramatic moment. It is thought a woman in her 60s jumped from the top

of the building at the rear to escape the flames and suffered

severe injuries. On arrival, there was a lady who had released herself

from the building at the rear of the property. We provided as much

emergency aid as we could. She was removed to hospital. The woman had

fallen around 12 metres and suffered spinal, pelvic and ankle injuries. A

man also needed treatment in hospital. The concern was the fire

could have spread even further in a tightly packed old town. The

buildings are now being inspected to check how stable they are. These

buildings are fragile and old. Safety is paramount. We have had to

Gordon off a large chunk of George Street simply because it is not safe

for those properties to be open. An investigation has been started.

Police are looking for two men after an armed robbery in a Sussex

village. It happened at the post office on North Street in Lower

Horsebridge just after ten o'clock yesterday morning. The men

threatened a member of staff with a knife, before stealing several

thousands of pounds of cash from a safe. They left in a maroon Ford

Escort. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The owner of Lydden Hill race track near Dover, Pat Doran, says he owes

his life to the rapid reactions of the circuit's safety teams, after

his car caught fire during this weekend's World Rallycross

Championship, as Neil Bell reports. Sussex Police say they don't have

enough officers to shut down an illegal rave on the South Downs near

Brighton. It is every driver's nightmare scenario. Your car catches

fire during a race and within seconds the vehicle is engulfed by

flames. Fortunately for a Pat Doran, the safety crews were on hand. Got a

bit closer at times. I have got some wounds to show for it. Because of

our fantastic rescue crew, they were there within seconds. They basically

saved my life. You can see them behind me. Fantastic. A huge crowd

at Lydden Hill were enthralled by events. Yesterday's narrow escape

was still the major topic of conversation. There was smoke

everywhere. You could actually see anything else. It seemed to take an

age to actually get out. Like the door opened, it was like that

backdraught thing. Pretty frightening. Pat Doran and the

organisers are delighted with the event has gone. The highlights will

be seen in 100 countries around the world.

Sussex Police said they do not have enough officers to shut down an

illegal rave on the South Downs near Brighton. Officers have closed the

access road to Devil's Dyke, where around 2000 revellers have been

gathering since one o'clock this morning. It's thought there's also

400 vehicles and seven sound systems at the site. Despite noise

complaints from local residents, police say it's currently not

possible to close the event down. Counting is underway across the

south east for the European elections. Ten Members of the

European Parliament will be elected to represent the region following

tonight's results, which are expected to be announced after ten

o'clock. And we'll bring you those results on our late bulletin at ten
