Network Rail is warning of the dangers of misusing level

:00:13.:00:17.

crossings after being forced to close two in Aylesbury.

:00:18.:00:19.

It's released new footage of a cyclist narrowly escaping death

:00:20.:00:21.

after leaving his bike on the tracks.

:00:22.:00:23.

These few seconds were the difference between life and death.

:00:24.:00:33.

This near-miss at the Griffin named crossing in Aylesbury was recorded

:00:34.:00:45.

In the month long period they saw a number of

:00:46.:00:49.

concerns, these included children going to and from school looking

:00:50.:00:56.

down at mobile phones and this man carrying a large piece of wood

:00:57.:01:00.

It was an incident last month with a man and

:01:01.:01:03.

his bike that led them to make the decision to close the crossing.

:01:04.:01:06.

I think they should put a little bridge over it or something.

:01:07.:01:09.

If they think it is a danger then, yes,

:01:10.:01:11.

It is not that we have a long way to walk around.

:01:12.:01:15.

But Griffin Lane isn't the only crossing in Aylesbury to be closed.

:01:16.:01:18.

Two miles away, a fatal collision shut this

:01:19.:01:20.

If they close it, they did save her life.

:01:21.:01:28.

I find it quite annoying because you have to take

:01:29.:01:36.

There are a lot of pensioners that reduced the post office.

:01:37.:01:46.

Unfortunately, they are having to go elsewhere now.

:01:47.:01:48.

In an ideal world, we would not put level crossings over

:01:49.:01:50.

railways because we would leave the railway

:01:51.:01:52.

lines as far away from the

:01:53.:01:53.

general public as possible, but we are working on a Victorian

:01:54.:02:00.

infrastructure and it should be treated in the same way as if you

:02:01.:02:03.

were crossing a road, you should take all the necessary precautions

:02:04.:02:10.

REPORTER: But despite today's warning, it seems not everyone

:02:11.:02:12.

was getting the message, as people continue to, literally,

:02:13.:02:15.

A street in North Oxford has been identified as the 15th most

:02:16.:02:20.

Research by Lloyds Bank has shown the average house price

:02:21.:02:23.

The average house price in the city is around 350,000.

:02:24.:02:34.

London's Eaton Square topped the list - with a typical property

:02:35.:02:37.

A Christmas dinner for young people who've left the care system

:02:38.:02:40.

is happening for the first time in Oxford this weekend.

:02:41.:02:43.

The project first started in Manchester three years ago.

:02:44.:02:47.

Adina Campbell has been to meet the team behind it

:02:48.:02:50.

Megan and Chantelle spent their teenage years in care.

:02:51.:02:56.

I remember one particular teacher did not

:02:57.:02:58.

expect me to do very well at school and sort

:02:59.:03:01.

of made a comment, yeah, so

:03:02.:03:02.

They said most of their memories of Christmas

:03:03.:03:11.

Day with their foster families in Oxford were not special.

:03:12.:03:13.

Through my teenage years I despised Christmas,

:03:14.:03:15.

I did not want to talk about it and take part in any

:03:16.:03:18.

activities in school and out of school.

:03:19.:03:20.

But this year a team of volunteers across the county have decided to

:03:21.:03:23.

They have spent the last three months planning a

:03:24.:03:26.

Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.

:03:27.:03:28.

On Sunday, the guests will open the presents, take part in

:03:29.:03:30.

games and enjoy a Christmas lunch cooked by a chef

:03:31.:03:33.

We have the best food for the Christmas dinner, the best

:03:34.:03:47.

chefs for the Christmas dinner, we have presents,

:03:48.:03:50.

we have films on the day, there is a creche for people

:03:51.:03:53.

Lemn Sissay went through the care system himself and

:03:54.:04:01.

It is about creating a Christmas dinner

:04:02.:04:11.

that is unforgettable, that

:04:12.:04:14.

is full of love and joy and happiness for a care lever who next

:04:15.:04:18.

year will be able to have a memory to look back on which is positive.

:04:19.:04:21.

The Christmas dinner project started in Manchester three years ago and

:04:22.:04:24.

has since been rolled out to London and Leeds.

:04:25.:04:26.

But this year there are two new venues, Liverpool and Oxford.

:04:27.:04:36.

There's over 500 care leavers in Oxfordshire.

:04:37.:04:38.

We can't have Christmas for every care lever and not everyone

:04:39.:04:41.

will want to join, but part of the people, they can come,

:04:42.:04:43.

The team behind the dinner have managed to

:04:44.:04:47.

put on most of the day for free thanks to donations and volunteers

:04:48.:04:50.

To see other people having a nice Christmas, that is the most

:04:51.:04:54.

You know, Christmas is all about spending time with

:04:55.:04:57.

people and looking back and reflecting and making those

:04:58.:04:59.

memories, memories are the most important thing you cherish.

:05:00.:05:03.

There are some foster families that make

:05:04.:05:08.

the day absolutely special for people, but then there are also

:05:09.:05:11.

You know, I've been there and even, you

:05:12.:05:14.

know, I've had good Christmases and bad Christmases,

:05:15.:05:16.

but this is going to be something to remember and I

:05:17.:05:19.

Rail passengers in the south are being told to plan ahead over

:05:20.:05:37.

Christmas and expect significant delays as a number of lines

:05:38.:05:39.

There will be no trains in or out of London from Christmas Eve

:05:40.:05:47.

Services will stop at Ealing Broadway.

:05:48.:05:50.

There will then be a reduced timetable between December the 30th

:05:51.:05:52.

For the last year Network Rail has been working overnight and at

:05:53.:05:56.

weekends to do a lot of the work needed for Crossrail

:05:57.:05:59.

and for the electrification of the line.

:06:00.:06:01.

Sometimes frankly it needs time to do this

:06:02.:06:03.

in consecutive days and that is

:06:04.:06:04.

why the Paddington Station area will be closed this Christmas.

:06:05.:06:10.

Three British Airways passengers have enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime

:06:11.:06:15.

flight after finding they were the only ones on board.

:06:16.:06:18.

They included Lawrie-Lin Walker, seen here in the middle,

:06:19.:06:23.

who's now on her way to celebrate Christmas with her family in Witney.

:06:24.:06:26.

She and her friends found themselves the only passengers on a flight

:06:27.:06:29.

The trio were upgraded to business class, posed for selfies

:06:30.:06:33.

The weather forecast is next - from Alexis.

:06:34.:06:41.

South Today is back tomorrow evening at around 6:25.

:06:42.:06:50.

I won't be back until the New Year, so I'll wish you a happy

:06:51.:06:54.

After soggy conditions earlier, a much drier

:06:55.:06:58.

affair in store tonight and with clear skies as well.

:06:59.:07:00.

Things will still feel a little on the blustery

:07:01.:07:03.

Temperatures in towns and cities down to three or four but the wind

:07:04.:07:07.

Into tomorrow morning, a bright and chilly start to the day

:07:08.:07:14.

We will have cloud building of the day goes on.

:07:15.:07:17.

Still strong breezes and one two showers

:07:18.:07:19.

We're looking at eight and nine degrees.

:07:20.:07:28.

Looking ahead to Christmas Day, mild day,

:07:29.:07:29.

with quite a lot of cloud and further outbreaks of rain in store

:07:30.:07:32.

big day? Christmas Day. It will stay mild and temperatures could reach

:07:33.:07:38.

14, 15. He is down bet that the national picture.

:07:39.:07:44.

It will be more northern parts of the UK that see the worst of the

:07:45.:07:49.

weather. Another storm is developing in the Atlantic. This will turn into

:07:50.:07:59.

Storm Connor. This cloud has wrapped around storm Barbara. It brought

:08:00.:08:05.

gusty winds in the West. Some localised flooding in Scotland early

:08:06.:08:10.

on and the strongest winds in the north of Scotland approaching 80

:08:11.:08:15.

miles an hour. The amber window warning from the Met Office

:08:16.:08:16.
