It's time for our update on the weather for the week ahead

0:00:030:00:05

and a hint of what might follow. As we shall see in a moment,

0:00:050:00:08

it gets very interesting come next weekend.

0:00:080:00:10

This weekend, some of us have had it lovely and sunny,

0:00:100:00:13

Others, very wet. It's all depended on

0:00:130:00:15

how close you were to this area of low pressure.

0:00:150:00:17

For Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:00:170:00:19

closest to the low, there's been a lot of rain.

0:00:190:00:21

That low is drifting Northwards

0:00:210:00:23

but still some blustery showers to come

0:00:230:00:25

initially on Monday across the West of Scotland

0:00:250:00:27

though these should ease.

0:00:270:00:28

The odd shower scattered around elsewhere

0:00:280:00:30

but a lot of drier weather

0:00:300:00:32

and many places will avoid the showers entirely.

0:00:320:00:34

With light winds it will feel

0:00:340:00:35

very pleasant out there -

0:00:350:00:37

temperatures getting up into

0:00:370:00:38

the low to mid-20s quite widely.

0:00:380:00:40

It will feel more comfortable

0:00:400:00:41

than it has done across parts of

0:00:410:00:43

Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:00:430:00:44

A fine start to the week

0:00:440:00:46

and then we look to the West

0:00:460:00:47

with some fronts coming in.

0:00:470:00:48

Initially disorganised

0:00:480:00:50

but they will increase the cloud

0:00:500:00:51

and eventually bring some showers.

0:00:510:00:53

After a chilly but bright start in some areas -

0:00:530:00:56

a touch of ground frost perhaps

0:00:560:00:57

in the glens of Scotland -

0:00:570:00:59

it will gradually cloud over

0:00:590:01:00

with some showers breaking out

0:01:000:01:02

across Northern Ireland

0:01:020:01:03

and then they'll increase in number across the country,

0:01:030:01:05

pushing in from the Southwest

0:01:050:01:07

during the course of the day.

0:01:070:01:08

That said, some places will avoid the showers,

0:01:080:01:10

particularly the further North and East we are.

0:01:100:01:12

Temperatures again will do OK.

0:01:120:01:14

It will begin to feel quite muggy

0:01:140:01:16

as humidity rises.

0:01:160:01:17

In any brightness up into the low to mid-20s.

0:01:170:01:21

The fronts get a bit more oomph in them

0:01:210:01:23

come the middle of the week.

0:01:230:01:25

It does mean we're likely to see some heavier rain.

0:01:250:01:27

The timing of these fronts not nailed down,

0:01:270:01:30

but there will be some wetter weather

0:01:300:01:32

pushing its way West to East.

0:01:320:01:34

Following on behind, there will be

0:01:340:01:36

some brighter skies eventually

0:01:360:01:37

coming into more Western areas.

0:01:370:01:39

Some useful rain for the gardens on Wednesday.

0:01:390:01:42

Where it stays wet, temperatures will be depressed.

0:01:420:01:45

In the sunshine, if you see some sunshine,

0:01:450:01:47

low to mid-20s once again.

0:01:470:01:49

On into Thursday, I must emphasise

0:01:490:01:51

the timing of the systems

0:01:510:01:53

by this range is very uncertain.

0:01:530:01:54

It looks as if we'll be in a bit of a gap.

0:01:540:01:56

Wednesday's feature will have moved away,

0:01:560:01:58

the next one waiting in the wings,

0:01:580:02:00

but I think on Thursday

0:02:000:02:02

a lot of dry weather to come.

0:02:020:02:04

Some sunshine, and with

0:02:040:02:05

light winds again, temperatures will do OK.

0:02:050:02:08

Up into the low to mid-20s.

0:02:080:02:09

The highest temperatures across more

0:02:090:02:11

Southern and Eastern parts of the UK.

0:02:110:02:13

It's not going last

0:02:130:02:15

because the next feature

0:02:150:02:16

could well be quite nasty actually.

0:02:160:02:18

A deepening area of low pressure,

0:02:180:02:20

the exact track of this uncertain.

0:02:200:02:22

It could go this way, it could go that way.

0:02:220:02:24

But it will probably spread across

0:02:240:02:26

the UK in some shape or form,

0:02:260:02:28

which does mean some wet

0:02:280:02:29

and potentially quite windy weather as we end the week.

0:02:290:02:32

Watch out for that.

0:02:320:02:33

Certainly the end of the week

0:02:330:02:35

wetter than the beginning of the week.

0:02:350:02:37

Then our attention turns to developments

0:02:370:02:39

down in the Caribbean, would you believe?

0:02:390:02:41

We're keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Bertha.

0:02:410:02:44

It's been moving its way Westwards

0:02:440:02:46

over the last day or so

0:02:460:02:47

and intensifying all the while.

0:02:470:02:49

It does look as if

0:02:490:02:50

Bertha will start to move its way North

0:02:500:02:53

as we go through the next few days.

0:02:530:02:56

It could intensify further

0:02:560:02:57

to briefly become a hurricane,

0:02:570:03:00

and then it's going to curve its way

0:03:000:03:02

back out into the Atlantic

0:03:020:03:03

later on this week.

0:03:030:03:05

Bertha could have an indirect effect

0:03:050:03:07

on our weather as you go into

0:03:070:03:09

next weekend and beyond.

0:03:090:03:10

We won't get

0:03:100:03:11

a tropical storm or a hurricane,

0:03:110:03:13

but it does raise the uncertainty in our weather

0:03:130:03:15

in the extended period

0:03:150:03:16

with the potential for some heavy rain

0:03:160:03:18

and also some quite strong winds.

0:03:180:03:20

So that's one to watch. We'll be monitoring it very closely.

0:03:200:03:23

Why not tune in here again, this time tomorrow,

0:03:230:03:26

and Tomasz Schafernaker will give you an update?

0:03:260:03:29

When wild animals get sick, it takes radical thinking,

0:03:340:03:38

extraordinary medical skills and great bravery

0:03:380:03:40

to treat them and save lives.

0:03:400:03:42

This is routine for me. The problem is to do it on a rhinoceros.

0:03:420:03:45

This is real bionic stuff, it's amazing.

0:03:470:03:50

This is the trickiest ultrasound I've ever seen.
