Thanks for tuning in to our extended weather forecast. | 0:00:01 | 0:00:03
If you've been watching the extended forecasts in the last | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
couple of days, you'll know there's been much | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
talk about the weekend weather linked to a tropical storm, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:13
Tropical Storm Bertha, which is kind of heading our way. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
We'll have a look at that in a second. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
In the short-term, we have rain on the way. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
That's going to be affecting us during Wednesday, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
particularly in the morning, the rain will be heavy across the Southeast. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:26
It'l turn wet, across parts of Scotland as well. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
But the bulk of the day will dry out across the UK | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
so that much of Wales and England | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
should have a fine day on Wednesday | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
afternoon with highs of 26 in London and 20C in Newcastle. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:41
So a wet morning followed by a much brighter afternoon. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
So that's Wednesday. How about Thursday? | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
We're actually in a window of fine weather. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
The rain we would have had on Wednesday is out in the North Sea. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:53
And we are in this sort of spell of much better weather. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
It's what we call a ridge of high pressure, so that means | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
the air is sinking, the weather is much quieter | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
and the winds are lighter. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
For most of us it is a pleasant day with some hazy sunshine. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
Again, fairly pleasant temperatures for most of us in the low 20s | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
in a number of areas. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
But, for example in the Southeast, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
will have the highest value, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
25 in London and around 18C in Glasgow. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
There will be a few showers around but not too many. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
Into Friday, this area of low pressure across France | 0:01:23 | 0:01:27
and the Bay of Biscay is something which will upset | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
the weather across the Southeastern portion of the UK. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:33
There is much uncertainty at the moment how much | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
rainfall there is going to be. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
We think that around about here we could have a period of heavy | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
rain and gusty winds. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
Clearly you can see there's some bright weather as well | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
across more Western parts of the country but it is | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
uncertain exactly where this band of rain and how far West it will get. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:53
As we head into Saturday, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:54
again that is one area of low pressure here, another one here. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
We will talk about this one in a second. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
We're in between weather systems so once again, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
the weather will quieten down a bit on Saturday. Not for everybody. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:07
We are close to an area of low pressure in the Northwest. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
That means across Northern Ireland | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
and Scotland there will be a few showers. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
But across the bulk of the UK, we should have some dry weather | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
with highs in the low 20s, possibly up to 24 in the London area. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:21
Before the Sunday forecast, I will show you what's been | 0:02:21 | 0:02:25
happening across the Eastern seaboard of the United States. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
This is actually Tropical Storm Bertha, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
it was a hurricane this time yesterday. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
As we go over the next few days, the storm is going to track across | 0:02:34 | 0:02:39
the Atlantic, move into the North Atlantic and it will start to decay. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:44
You can see these uncertainty circles so where | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
the centre of the storm is going to be is very close, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
on the top of the UK. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
This is what it looks like on Sunday. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
You'll notice there is a lot of rain in the south of the country. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
This is where we think the storm may well be. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
I say storm loosely, it may just be a bit of a breeze with cloud | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
and rain or it could be something a bit more dramatic. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
We will keep you posted nearer the time. It is still a long way off. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:09
After that bad weather clears, there is going to | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
be much uncertainty on Monday. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
It depends what is going to happen on Sunday itself. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
It will settle down. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
The driest of the weather will be across southern parts of the country. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:24 |
