Hello. It's that time of day where we take a longer look at the weather, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
we go beyond the usual five-day period | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
and peek at what the six-to-ten-day period has in store for us. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
But we'll start with Saturday | 0:00:11 | 0:00:12
and, for many, after today's thunderstorms, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
it's going to be a vast improvement, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
with a lot of dry, bright and breezy weather | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
across most parts of the United Kingdom. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
Having said that, it's not going to be dry for all of us | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
because, in the Northern Isles, it's going to be quite wet and windy | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
But for the bulk of the mainland, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
there are good spells of sunshine to be found. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
That's certainly the case in Eastern Scotland. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Western Scotland may pick up a few showers | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
but they're few and far between. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
A lovely, dry afternoon in Northern England, 20-odd degrees. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
Bright and breezy. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
More cloud as you get into East Anglia and the Southeast. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
In spite of the extra cloud, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:42
I suspect most places will stay fine and dry. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
And pleasantly warm, at 23 or so degrees. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
That will be tempered somewhat by the breeze. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
The breeze is more noticeable in the Southwest - | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
temperatures are lower here. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
More cloud around and the chance of a few showers. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
The showers should move through quickly on the breeze. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
The showers themselves are fairly few and far between. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
Much of Wales sees some good spells of sunshine, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
bright and breezy for the most part, just the odd shower. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
Northern Ireland could be a focal point for some more frequent showers. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
As we get onto the evening, we start to look towards the South and west | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
because the rain is going to be turning heavier and heavier | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
and we could well see some quite heavy rain by dawn on Sunday. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:16
And, further North, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
we have got a scattering of showers across many parts of the UK. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
But it's all eyes towards the South and the West | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
because this area of rain, several days ago, | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
was a hurricane on the other side of the Atlantic. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
As it's come across the Atlantic, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
it's gone through a considerable transition | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
and now it's just an Atlantic low. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:32
It is set to bring some wet and windy weather | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
across many parts of the UK during the day on Sunday. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
Some heavy rain working its way North through the morning, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
it covers much of England, Wales, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
and it eventually gets towards the East of Scotland. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Into the afternoon, it does dry up in the South | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
and temperatures get up to 21 or 22 degrees. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
But it will be quite windy, particularly around those coasts, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
it will be gusting up to around 50 or 60 miles an hour. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
And I expect we will see some fairly considerable impacts | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
from all of this on Sunday. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
One-two inches of rain, | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
gusts of wind of 50-60 miles an hour around the coast | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
and also around the coast, we've large waves and high tides - | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
we have to throw that into the mix. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
Now, on Monday, the driving low moves its weight ever Northwards, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
up into the Northern North Sea, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:11
so wet and windy conditions will be rotating around that, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
getting into the North of Scotland. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
Elsewhere, it is a windy day with sunny spells | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
but also some fairly frequent showers. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Now, that same low is still driving our weather | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
through Monday night and on into Tuesday. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
The wind's coming around it, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
so it's a West or Northwesterly wind on Tuesday | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
and it will be quite a strong West or Northwesterly wind. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
A lot of showers again on Tuesday. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
Most of the showers will be in the North and West | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
and a few will get towards the Eastern side. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
Temperatures beginning to struggle, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:40
maybe only 16 degrees in the North and West of the UK. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:44
Into the middle of the week and, if anything, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
those isobars get a little bit tighter, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:47
so the winds even stronger from the West or Northwest again on Wednesday. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
And, again, it is a showery sort of look to things. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
Most of the showers on Wednesday | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
will be in the North and the West of the UK. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
Down towards the South and the East, probably a bit drier | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
but you can't rule out the odd shower getting across, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
given the strength of the winds. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:02
Now, the six-to-ten-day period - | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
that low is still to the North or Northeast of the United Kingdom | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
and it's still driving these West or Northwesterly winds across the UK. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
And the winds will be a key feature of this period | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
because the winds will be much stronger | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
than you expect for this time of the year. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
It will bring a cool feel to things as well. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
I think daytime temperatures will be struggling, a bit below average. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
There will be some chilly nights as well. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
Overall, it looks unsettled, with sunshine and showers. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
Most of the showers in the North and West. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
Hi, I'm Richard Osman and why not join me | 0:03:31 | 0:03:32

We split contestants into tribes, we ask them lots of questions. | 0:03:34 | 0:03:37 |
