The weather's about to change after what's been | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
a curious couple of days, I'm sure you'll agree. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
For some of us, it's been gloriously sunny, | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
and under those blue skies we've seen record November heat. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
For others, we've had some | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
misty, foggy mornings clearing to reveal afternoon sunshine. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
But for a few, it's stayed grey and foggy | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
and pretty chilly for much of the day. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
But dry. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:23
However, the weather is on the change, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
the fog will clear, but in its place | 0:00:25 | 0:00:26
we're going to see some wet weather, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
some quite gusty winds, but it will | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
be mild through the rest of this week. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
The change is coming ahead courtesy of | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
a jet stream which is going to | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
power its way in from the south-west, | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
and of course, the jet stream | 0:00:38 | 0:00:39
is what generates areas of low pressure | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
and outbreaks of rain. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:42
As that jet sweeps across the country, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
we're all going to feel its effects | 0:00:45 | 0:00:46
over the next few days. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
Not just yet, it's still pretty quiet | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
out there first thing on Tuesday, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
which does mean a foggy start again across parts | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
of northern and eastern England, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
parts of Scotland too, and a few | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
of those fog patches could linger. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
However, a change arriving | 0:00:59 | 0:01:00
across the southwest with rain, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
the first of the rain, | 0:01:02 | 0:01:03
for parts of southern England, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
up into Wales and the Midlands | 0:01:05 | 0:01:06
by the end of the afternoon. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:07
The best of the sunshine | 0:01:07 | 0:01:08
across the northern half of Scotland. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
To go through the night, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
we're going to see outbreaks of rain | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
spilling further northwards, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
some heavy bursts, particularly out west, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
but nobody immune, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
and sharp showers potentially | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
across some eastern counties | 0:01:19 | 0:01:20
later on in the night. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:21
Still a few fog patches perhaps across | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
the north of Scotland | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
first thing on Wednesday, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
but a completely different complexion | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
to the weather map, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
we've lost the fog, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
outbreaks of rain scattered around, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
but, yes, again, mild, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:32
temperatures in double figures | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
and up into the mid-teens in some places. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
The reason for the rain - | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
this little area of low pressure, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
that's only going to be followed | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
by some rather more potent areas | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
of low pressure and weather front | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
sweeping in off the Atlantic. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:46
In fact, during the course of Thursday, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
one such feature will spread rain in | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
from the west on a strengthening wind. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:51
A dry start across some eastern areas, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
but if you've got fireworks parties planned, well, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
take something waterproof, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:57
because that rain will be arriving | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
from the west later on in the day | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
and some of that could be quite heavy. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
Overnight, it sweeps across the whole | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
of the country, then, a short respite, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
but only a short one, | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
before the next low pressure system | 0:02:08 | 0:02:09
comes in during Friday. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
And that's targeting more northern parts of the UK | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
with some strong winds | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
and potentially some heavy rain. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
Any rain further south will be quite light, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
and despite a gusty wind, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
remarkably mild, up into the high teens | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
once more across some southern areas | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
if you see some brightness. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
Now, big question mark about Saturday. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
Some computer models are generating | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
quite a nasty area of low pressure | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
pushing up towards the north of Scotland. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
Other computer models aren't so keen on this, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
so there's a lot of wriggle room, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
still, a lot of uncertainty. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:40
The potential is there | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
for some quite stormy weather, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:43
we'll keep you posted, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
it could well be it's not just as nasty as this, | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
but, yes, certainly some wet and windy weather, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
particularly across the more northern parts | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
of the UK, with the risk of gales, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
somewhat lighter winds, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
not so much rain further south. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
Watch out for weather warnings | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
as we close in on that potential. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
Into next week, further low pressure systems | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
will be gliding across | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
the more northern parts of the country. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
Closest to the area | 0:03:06 | 0:03:07
of high pressure further south | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
we'll see lighter winds | 0:03:09 | 0:03:10
and less in the way of rainfall. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
But generally, the winds will be | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
coming in from the west | 0:03:14 | 0:03:15
or the south-west for much of | 0:03:15 | 0:03:16
next week. What does that mean? | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
It means there's no sign of any | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
significantly cold weather just yet. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
We will see some outbreaks of rain | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
and some quite gusty winds. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
The driest weather always across | 0:03:26 | 0:03:27
the more southern parts of the UK. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
