The second part of the weekend got off to a very slow start

0:00:020:00:05

for large parts of the United Kingdom,

0:00:050:00:07

with some dense and quite persistent fog.

0:00:070:00:09

For some areas, that fog lasted well on into the afternoon.

0:00:090:00:12

But for some other areas, there was a good deal of sunshine.

0:00:120:00:15

In that sunshine, in the west of Wales,

0:00:150:00:17

we saw a new November temperature record - yes, we got to 22.4 degrees.

0:00:170:00:21

That was recorded in Trawsgoed.

0:00:210:00:22

How does that compare with the seasonal average?

0:00:220:00:25

Normally in this part of the world, early November,

0:00:250:00:27

you expect temperatures round about 12 Celsius.

0:00:270:00:29

So, 10.4 degrees above the average.

0:00:290:00:31

The fog set to return overnight tonight, thickening up all the while.

0:00:310:00:35

And through Monday morning's rush hour,

0:00:350:00:37

I suspect we've got further disruption.

0:00:370:00:39

It'll be slow on the roads

0:00:390:00:41

and there'll be further delays and cancellations,

0:00:410:00:43

I suspect, at some of the airports.

0:00:430:00:44

The fog dense in places, slow to clear,

0:00:440:00:46

but I think it will do for many.

0:00:460:00:47

Some eastern parts of England may well keep that fog into the afternoon

0:00:470:00:51

and you may well do the same across southern Scotland,

0:00:510:00:53

maybe, too, into Northern Ireland.

0:00:530:00:54

Across the south-west, I think we'll see

0:00:540:00:56

a good deal of sunshine into the afternoon,

0:00:560:00:58

and we're going to get into the middle to upper teens quite easily.

0:00:580:01:01

Could go a few degrees higher than that in one or two spots.

0:01:010:01:04

Where the low cloud and fog lingers

0:01:040:01:05

across some eastern parts of England, temperatures will struggle.

0:01:050:01:08

Could be only nine or ten degrees for some places.

0:01:080:01:11

It could be pretty grey into the afternoon for southern Scotland,

0:01:110:01:13

maybe some parts of Northern Ireland.

0:01:130:01:15

Western Scotland, more breeze, a bit more cloud.

0:01:150:01:17

A bit of rain here, but the north-east of Scotland

0:01:170:01:19

is a favoured spot for some sunshine into the afternoon.

0:01:190:01:22

But once the sun goes down,

0:01:220:01:23

that fog is going to thicken up again quite quickly.

0:01:230:01:26

Maybe not too much for southernmost counties of England.

0:01:260:01:29

It's probably Mid Wales, the Midlands, northwards,

0:01:290:01:31

where we're going to see the fog,

0:01:310:01:33

and some of that could be quite dense.

0:01:330:01:35

No real problems with those temperatures

0:01:350:01:37

as we get onto dawn on Tuesday.

0:01:370:01:39

But a slow start from the Midlands northwards with that fog.

0:01:390:01:42

Some rain pushing its way across the south-west of England

0:01:420:01:45

up into Wales, through the day, bit of a breeze to go with that.

0:01:450:01:48

The further south-east you are, should be essentially fine and dry.

0:01:480:01:51

15, 16 degrees. And the north-east of Scotland, again,

0:01:510:01:53

a favoured spot for some spells of sunshine.

0:01:530:01:56

Into Wednesday, and it looks like it's going to turn

0:01:560:01:59

a bit more unsettled across the southern half of the UK.

0:01:590:02:01

Cloud and outbreaks of rain, a bit of a breeze.

0:02:010:02:03

In between those showers, 15, 16 degrees, not so bad.

0:02:030:02:06

It's double figures further north,

0:02:060:02:08

where it's that bit drier, except in the north of Scotland.

0:02:080:02:11

Wednesday night, into Thursday, breezy from the south-west.

0:02:110:02:14

That'll keep it quite mild.

0:02:140:02:15

We have this weather system coming in on Thursday from the west,

0:02:150:02:18

bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain, a bit of a breeze.

0:02:180:02:20

The rain starts off initially quite heavy,

0:02:200:02:23

but it'll turn light and patchy

0:02:230:02:24

as you get on into the latter part of the afternoon

0:02:240:02:27

and on into the evening.

0:02:270:02:28

Bonfire Night, it looks like it'll be cloudy and breezy.

0:02:280:02:31

The cloud may well still contain a little bit of light rain and drizzle,

0:02:310:02:34

but it's not too heavy and not too widespread.

0:02:340:02:36

Still breezy Thursday night into Friday.

0:02:360:02:38

From the south-west, so again, it's quite mild overnight.

0:02:380:02:41

Further weather systems coming in from the south-west on Friday.

0:02:410:02:44

Question marks about the timing, but at the moment,

0:02:440:02:46

it looks like we'll see rain across the south-west of England.

0:02:460:02:49

Then it'll move its way across Wales, through the Midlands

0:02:490:02:52

and up into northern England.

0:02:520:02:53

And then on into next weekend.

0:02:530:02:54

Take a look at the jet stream

0:02:540:02:56

and it looks like it'll be well to the north of the UK,

0:02:560:02:58

keeping that cold polar air a long way from us.

0:02:580:03:01

We're on the warm side of the jet stream, so staying relatively mild.

0:03:010:03:04

The pressure pattern looks something like this,

0:03:040:03:07

with low pressure systems moving their way up towards Iceland.

0:03:070:03:10

High pressure still across central Europe.

0:03:100:03:12

The resulting south-westerly winds will keep things on the mild side.

0:03:120:03:15

But it's also going to bring some rain at times.

0:03:150:03:18

And that south-westerly wind could be quite strong.

0:03:180:03:21

But the south-east of England look like it's favoured

0:03:210:03:23

for some much drier weather, and staying mild with that wind coming in

0:03:230:03:27

from the south and west.
