01/11/2015 Weather for the Week Ahead

It was a mild Halloween. Temperatures in the middle to upper teens widely.

Over night, it's fog that's the main issue.

Some of that will be dense,

particularly so across England and Wales.

It will be slow to clear,

but it should do for many areas into the afternoon.

Some places are going to hang onto some low cloud which

will have an effect on those temperatures.

There is sunshine to be had.

Northern Scotland will do well in the morning, and on into the afternoon.

A decent day here.

A bit more cloud further south, but staying essentially fine and dry.

Low cloud over the hills.

The north-east of England, through the Vale of York,

we could see low cloud and mist and fog lingering in the afternoon.

In the Midlands we'll see sunshine developing.

Some southern counties may hang on to grey weather into the afternoon,

and underneath the cloud temperatures will be 12-13 degrees.

But, if you get a bit of sunshine, it's more like 16-17.

Not as warm as it was on Saturday,

but still a few degrees above where we should be.

It looks good across Wales into the afternoon, good spells of sunshine,

a bit of low cloud out towards the east, but further west 16-17 degrees.

Very pleasant.

More like 14-15 across Northern Ireland with cloud, but staying dry.

Bright conditions on the north coast. Through the evening,

the mist and fog will return across large sections of England, Wales,

and maybe a bit in southern Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Temperatures not dropping away too far,

just slipping into single figures for some, in doubles for others.

It's a grey start to Monday.

Mist, fog slow to clear, but I think it will do, particularly so for the

south-west of England, parts of Wales - sunny spells in the afternoon.

The north-east of Scotland doing quite well.

Maybe a bit of rain in the western side of Scotland.

Elsewhere, it's a dry day.

Temperatures with a bit of sunshine again in the middle to upper teens.

If you've got the low cloud, 12 or 13.

A change for Tuesday, rain in the west of Scotland

and a little bit across the south-west of England.

Maybe clipping the south of Wales later on.

That's thanks to this area of low pressure drifting up from the south.

Some question marks about the detail for this as we get

on into the middle of the week,

but it looks as if it'll be more unsettled in the middle of the week.

A lot of cloud. Outbreaks of rain.

Particularly in the south, some of which could be heavy,

and maybe rain further north as well.

Still, with a southerly breeze, it's on the mild side,

15 or 16 degrees in the south, 11's and 12's further north.

Towards Thursday, that first low out of the way,

the next one coming in from the Atlantic.

Those isobars getting closer together

so the breeze is picking up from the south-west, which is always a mild

direction, so temperatures still on the mild side, 12-15 or 16 degrees.

Outbreaks of rain are likely to come in to the south-west of England

and into Wales.

Thursday night looks like it will be cloudy and breezy,

and maybe some rain as well.

We'll firm up that in the coming days.

Here's the big picture for the latter part of next week.

The jetstream is well to the north of the UK.

Polar air to the north of it, milder to the south.

The pressure pattern looks like we'll see low pressure to the

north-west of the UK, up towards Iceland.

High pressure across Central Europe.

The resulting winds coming in from the south-west

and that's going to keep things on the mild side.

But, the closer you are to that low in the north and west

you may well see some rain at times, so the south-east is drier.

The breeze will be noticeable, but it's coming in from the south

so it's staying on the mild side.
