Hello. Sometimes the extraordinary goes on so long, it seems ordinary,

0:00:030:00:06

but November really shouldn't be this mild.

0:00:060:00:08

The Met Office tells us the first half of the month was

0:00:080:00:11

the second warmest start to November on record.

0:00:110:00:14

We achieved the warmest November day and November night we've seen,

0:00:140:00:18

but things are about to change

0:00:180:00:20

and quite significantly and, as ever,

0:00:200:00:22

all the clues are in the Jet stream.

0:00:220:00:24

It has been bringing an air in

0:00:240:00:26

from the west or south-west,

0:00:260:00:27

but wet and windy weather systems too.

0:00:270:00:29

But then, look at this going into the weekend.

0:00:290:00:32

Right from the north,

0:00:320:00:33

we drag arctic air across the UK,

0:00:330:00:35

it's going to feel so different.

0:00:350:00:37

Not quite here yet,

0:00:370:00:38

it's lurking behind this weather front

0:00:380:00:40

close to northern Scotland.

0:00:400:00:41

That's where the isobars are lining up from the Arctic.

0:00:410:00:44

So, on Thursday, it's pretty much as you were,

0:00:440:00:46

although double-figure temperatures across

0:00:460:00:48

southern England and south Wales

0:00:480:00:50

held back by cloud, some outbreaks of rain.

0:00:500:00:52

It'll be a blustery day,

0:00:520:00:53

not quite as windy as Wednesday.

0:00:530:00:56

There'll be showers coming into Scotland,

0:00:560:00:57

Northern Ireland, north-west England

0:00:570:00:59

and persistent rain for parts of northern Scotland

0:00:590:01:01

close to that weather front, but as you can see,

0:01:010:01:04

many again getting into double figures.

0:01:040:01:06

Now, as we go through Thursday night,

0:01:060:01:07

this weather front to the south

0:01:070:01:09

has another ripple of energy,

0:01:090:01:10

bringing some rain back to parts of south Wales

0:01:100:01:12

and southern England as Friday begins.

0:01:120:01:14

That weather front is still

0:01:140:01:15

in northern Scotland, making it wet.

0:01:150:01:17

The southern front pulls away southwards on Friday

0:01:170:01:20

and then we look to the north.

0:01:200:01:21

The wind changing direction,

0:01:210:01:23

colder air starting to come in,

0:01:230:01:24

showers turning increasingly to snow

0:01:240:01:26

to ever lower ground in Scotland.

0:01:260:01:28

And if you're a fan of arctic air,

0:01:280:01:30

you will like this weather chart here.

0:01:300:01:33

You'll be very interested too

0:01:330:01:35

in this system in the North Sea.

0:01:350:01:37

A lot of uncertainty about it at the moment,

0:01:370:01:39

but it has the potential -

0:01:390:01:40

Friday night and into Saturday morning -

0:01:400:01:43

to bring some wet weather

0:01:430:01:44

down this eastern side of the UK,

0:01:440:01:45

rain on the coast,

0:01:450:01:46

but in that cold air inland,

0:01:460:01:48

even to low ground,

0:01:480:01:50

we could be seeing some snow.

0:01:500:01:51

So snow on the ground or snow falling for some

0:01:510:01:53

as Saturday begins. Windy too,

0:01:530:01:55

so gotta factor in wind chill as well.

0:01:550:01:58

Saturday night, there'll be a frost for many.

0:01:580:02:00

This weather system working southwards

0:02:000:02:02

has some less cold air

0:02:020:02:03

associated with it for a time,

0:02:030:02:06

so maybe producing some rain,

0:02:060:02:07

but then, on Sunday,

0:02:070:02:08

the colder air digs back in.

0:02:080:02:10

There'll be showers, especially coastal areas.

0:02:100:02:12

Rain, sleet, hail.

0:02:120:02:14

Snow to any that fall inland,

0:02:140:02:16

but a lot of dry weather too

0:02:160:02:18

and some sunshine

0:02:180:02:19

in this crisp arctic air.

0:02:190:02:20

But it looks like being a short, sharp shock,

0:02:200:02:22

because, into next week,

0:02:220:02:23

around this area of high pressure -

0:02:230:02:25

notice the isobars going into Monday

0:02:250:02:27

no longer from the north,

0:02:270:02:28

but just coming round that high pressure

0:02:280:02:30

from the Atlantic once again

0:02:300:02:31

and, as that process takes place,

0:02:310:02:33

we topple milder air in

0:02:330:02:36

south-eastwards across the UK during Monday,

0:02:360:02:39

so it becomes less cold once again.

0:02:390:02:42

That again is about another change

0:02:420:02:43

in the position of the Jet stream.

0:02:430:02:45

As that process happens,

0:02:450:02:46

we take some cloud and rain

0:02:460:02:47

southwards across the UK.

0:02:470:02:49

Initially snow on Scottish hills.

0:02:490:02:51

But even here, it's likely to turn to rain.

0:02:510:02:53

Notice those temperatures coming up.

0:02:530:02:55

So, next week, then, the jet stream,

0:02:550:02:57

it's not straight down from the north,

0:02:570:02:59

it's coming around at high pressure across the Atlantic.

0:02:590:03:01

As it does so, it could well bring back

0:03:010:03:03

the potential for further wet and windy weather systems

0:03:030:03:06

hitting the north-west of the UK first.

0:03:060:03:08

That is something we need to watch.

0:03:080:03:10

But it's all about the change in the feel of the weather.

0:03:100:03:12

November so far, 15. We saw that again.

0:03:120:03:14

Maybe North Wales on Wednesday, for example,

0:03:140:03:17

but by this weekend, 5 at best.

0:03:170:03:19

Some of us won't even get that high.

0:03:190:03:21

And next week, we're not going to recover the ground,

0:03:210:03:23

even though it turns a bit milder again around 9 degrees.

0:03:230:03:25

Closer to reality November.

0:03:250:03:26

Some people tell me they want cold weather!

0:03:260:03:29

It's coming, whether you like it or not.
