Hello there. We have seen some very severe

0:00:030:00:05

and dangerous weather over the past 24 to 48 hours or so, all courtesy

0:00:050:00:09

of Storm Desmond, the fourth named storm here in the UK and Ireland.

0:00:090:00:13

You can see it on the satellite image.

0:00:130:00:15

Weather fronts from this storm

0:00:150:00:17

have been stretching right back into the Atlantic,

0:00:170:00:19

unleashing a very large amount of rainfall.

0:00:190:00:21

During the day on Saturday,

0:00:210:00:22

we had red warnings from the Met office for that

0:00:220:00:25

very heavy rainfall, which brought severe flooding

0:00:250:00:27

across parts of Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.

0:00:270:00:30

Things are looking quieter

0:00:300:00:32

as we head through the next 24 hours or so.

0:00:320:00:34

However, river levels will lag behind the rainfall,

0:00:340:00:37

so, still flooding is a major problem on Sunday.

0:00:370:00:39

Although for most places, a drier day,

0:00:390:00:41

a few splashes of rain

0:00:410:00:42

across southern parts of England and Wales.

0:00:420:00:45

Still breezy in the south,

0:00:450:00:46

but an improving story further north.

0:00:460:00:48

The return to some sunshine across Northern Ireland,

0:00:480:00:51

northern England and Scotland,

0:00:510:00:52

temperatures about eight to 13 Celsius.

0:00:520:00:54

But with severe flooding ongoing, particularly across

0:00:540:00:57

north-west England and southern Scotland,

0:00:570:00:59

we are likely to see disruption to travel

0:00:590:01:02

continuing and severe flood warnings still in force.

0:01:020:01:05

Here is the Floodline number

0:01:050:01:06

if you are concerned about flooding in your part of the world.

0:01:060:01:09

So, into the latter part of Sunday,

0:01:090:01:11

things are turning a bit quieter,

0:01:110:01:13

but still unsettled. Rain returning northwards

0:01:130:01:16

and eastwards across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

0:01:160:01:19

The rain becoming fairly light and patchy

0:01:190:01:21

as it presses across Cumbria, for instance,

0:01:210:01:23

but still, it is very unwelcome rainfall,

0:01:230:01:25

falling on saturated ground,

0:01:250:01:28

river levels still very high.

0:01:280:01:29

Through the day on Monday,

0:01:290:01:31

as we start the new working week,

0:01:310:01:32

low pressure still driving our weather,

0:01:320:01:34

and fairly tight isobars,

0:01:340:01:35

particularly across the north-west.

0:01:350:01:38

Again, gales or severe gales around the coast,

0:01:380:01:40

another spell of rain working across parts of Scotland.

0:01:400:01:42

For much of the country, we will see

0:01:420:01:44

a drier interlude in the weather,

0:01:440:01:46

a return to something drier and brighter.

0:01:460:01:48

In the south-east, we could see temperatures of 14,

0:01:480:01:50

so still exceptionally mild for this time of year.

0:01:500:01:53

But rain working into the north and west once again.

0:01:530:01:57

This is rolling through Monday night

0:01:570:01:59

and on into Tuesday.

0:01:590:02:00

This cold front just dragging across the country.

0:02:000:02:03

It will be fairly slow to clear.

0:02:030:02:05

It will bring some spells of rain,

0:02:050:02:06

working their way eastwards across

0:02:060:02:08

much of the country. Further wintry showers

0:02:080:02:10

possible across the hills of Scotland,

0:02:100:02:12

but for most places, staying pretty mild,

0:02:120:02:15

nine to 13 Celsius or so. A hint of a change

0:02:150:02:17

into the middle part of the week,

0:02:170:02:19

this is later on Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:02:190:02:21

you can see high pressure take more of a hold

0:02:210:02:23

of the weather towards the south.

0:02:230:02:25

Weather fronts still pushing

0:02:250:02:27

into the north and west, though.

0:02:270:02:28

So, through Wednesday, another spell of rain again

0:02:280:02:31

for parts of Northern Ireland,

0:02:310:02:32

Scotland, possibly north-west England,

0:02:320:02:34

drier and brighter the further south and east you are.

0:02:340:02:37

Still on the mild side for the time of year.

0:02:370:02:40

Rolling through into Thursday,

0:02:400:02:41

you can start to see more of the influence of

0:02:410:02:43

that high pressure across the near continent.

0:02:430:02:45

Low pressure out towards the north-west.

0:02:450:02:47

Still a blustery feel to the weather,

0:02:470:02:49

with a front working southwards and eastwards,

0:02:490:02:51

but fizzling out somewhat as it bumps into

0:02:510:02:54

that higher pressure towards the south-east.

0:02:540:02:57

So, the middle part of next week,

0:02:570:02:59

dominated by plenty of areas of low pressure,

0:02:590:03:01

mainly out towards the north-west of the UK.

0:03:010:03:03

High pressure further south and east,

0:03:030:03:05

drawing in this mild west or south-westerly airflow,

0:03:050:03:07

but later next week and on into next weekend,

0:03:070:03:10

the winds change to more of a north-westerly

0:03:100:03:12

direction as we see high pressure

0:03:120:03:14

building in from the south-west.

0:03:140:03:16

So, a subtle change in wind direction,

0:03:160:03:18

bringing a quieter spell of weather through the latter part of

0:03:180:03:21

next week, a return to some overnight frost,

0:03:210:03:23

but it looks like the unsettled weather continues,

0:03:230:03:25

with rain arriving later on in the ten-day period.

0:03:250:03:28

That's it for now, goodbye.
