We've seen a transition in weather type through the middle part

0:00:020:00:05

of the week. We started off the week with cold, crisp wintry conditions

0:00:050:00:08

with frost, ice and some sunshine around, too, but earlier on

0:00:080:00:11

in the week temperatures typically struggle just a degree or two

0:00:110:00:14

above freezing. Through the middle part of the week

0:00:140:00:16

the temperatures have risen to about average and by the weekend

0:00:160:00:19

we're likely to see those temperatures topping around

0:00:190:00:22

about 15 degrees or so - well above average for this time of year.

0:00:220:00:25

We've already seen the mild air start to pour in across the country

0:00:250:00:28

and with the milder conditions also the arrival of some

0:00:280:00:31

wet and windy weather.

0:00:310:00:32

A band of cloud, wind and rain

0:00:320:00:34

working its way gradually eastwards through Friday.

0:00:340:00:37

That will be followed by brighter, drier conditions

0:00:370:00:39

rolling in from the west.

0:00:390:00:41

A return to some sunshine but there's likely to be

0:00:410:00:43

some lying surface water around after the morning's heavy rain.

0:00:430:00:46

For parts of Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland

0:00:460:00:48

there could be some localised flooding.

0:00:480:00:50

Temperature-wise we're back into double figures,

0:00:500:00:52

perhaps just holding on to the cooler conditions

0:00:520:00:54

for some eastern counties of England for a time.

0:00:540:00:57

Once we lose that weather front late on Friday we look to see

0:00:570:01:00

drier conditions, clearer skies Friday night and into Saturday.

0:01:000:01:03

A few blustery showers towards the north and west.

0:01:030:01:06

But a ridge of higher pressure starts to build

0:01:060:01:08

as we head into the first part of the weekend.

0:01:080:01:10

That will dominate things through Saturday, so not a bad day at all.

0:01:100:01:14

There could be some mist and fog around at first

0:01:140:01:16

but a largely dry day with spells of sunshine on Saturday

0:01:160:01:19

and certainly feeling quite mild.

0:01:190:01:21

Sunday a different day, still very mild but a cloudier picture,

0:01:210:01:25

so a greyer day with some outbreaks of rain,

0:01:250:01:27

especially in the north and west.

0:01:270:01:29

This is how Saturday's shaping up - mist and fog

0:01:290:01:32

in the south likely first thing

0:01:320:01:33

but a lot of dry weather, some sunny spells on offer,

0:01:330:01:36

the breeze picking up in the west

0:01:360:01:38

and perhaps some rain working in here later on.

0:01:380:01:40

But for the vast majority it's a dry day.

0:01:400:01:42

Temperatures are set to peak around 10 or 11 degrees

0:01:420:01:46

where we do get that brightness.

0:01:460:01:48

A change into Sunday. We've got more cloud

0:01:480:01:50

and that cloud bringing with it some outbreaks of rain for some

0:01:500:01:53

northern and western areas, the breeze picking up in the west.

0:01:530:01:56

But central and eastern parts staying dry

0:01:560:01:58

and where the cloud breaks we're likely to see

0:01:580:02:00

14 or 15 degrees -

0:02:000:02:01

well above normal for this time of year.

0:02:010:02:04

Some uncertainty onto the first part of the new working week.

0:02:040:02:06

On Monday it looks like we will see a developing area of low pressure

0:02:060:02:09

that's likely to bring some windy conditions on Monday,

0:02:090:02:12

particularly the further west you are.

0:02:120:02:14

So a wet and windy day for Northern Ireland, Wales,

0:02:140:02:17

parts of Scotland, too.

0:02:170:02:18

For central and eastern parts of England still very mild

0:02:180:02:21

and there could be a bit of sunshine on offer.

0:02:210:02:23

There will be some windy and wet weather at times on Monday.

0:02:230:02:26

On into Tuesday,

0:02:260:02:27

some uncertainty on the exact detail and timing

0:02:270:02:30

but it looks like a quieter day.

0:02:300:02:32

We're likely to start with the remnants of some showery weather,

0:02:320:02:35

easing way, later on things drier, a return to some sunny skies

0:02:350:02:38

but feeling a bit fresher with temperatures down

0:02:380:02:41

a few degrees compared to Monday.

0:02:410:02:43

This is a simplified representation of what's happening with

0:02:430:02:46

the jet stream through the middle to the latter part of next week.

0:02:460:02:49

You can see an undulating jet stream back into the Atlantic.

0:02:490:02:51

At times we'll be on the cold side of that, at other times

0:02:510:02:54

on the milder side of it towards the south of the jet stream.

0:02:540:02:57

When we're on the south it will send low pressure systems our way

0:02:570:03:00

bringing milder but wetter weather.

0:03:000:03:02

Towards the north of the jet stream that's when we'll see periods

0:03:020:03:05

of drier, fresher, brighter and cooler conditions

0:03:050:03:08

with some scattered showers.

0:03:080:03:10

So it will be a bit of a changeable sort of week ahead, really,

0:03:100:03:14

with milder spells of weather interspersed with colder spells, too.

0:03:140:03:18

Rain and wind at times with the milder weather

0:03:180:03:20

but a chance we could see some frosty conditions overnight, too.

0:03:200:03:23

So plenty going on with the weather through the week ahead.

0:03:230:03:26

We'll keep you up to date right here. Bye-bye.
