Hello. We may be in the first week of spring meteorologically,

0:00:030:00:06

but things have felt pretty wintry over the past couple of days,

0:00:060:00:09

and in fact we're going to hold on to that fairly cold feel to the

0:00:090:00:11

weather through the first part of this week.

0:00:110:00:13

So a wintry start to things, gradually turning milder later on

0:00:130:00:17

through the coming week, and rather more unsettled eventually, too.

0:00:170:00:20

But we're still in the cold air mass through the course of Sunday.

0:00:200:00:23

A little more in the way of sunshine during the morning.

0:00:230:00:26

I think by the afternoon the cloud building for many areas.

0:00:260:00:28

Still keeping that feed of cold northerly air towards

0:00:280:00:31

the east with some wintry showers.

0:00:310:00:32

One or two wintry showers further west, as well,

0:00:320:00:34

but in general it is a drier day compared to Saturday,

0:00:340:00:37

less breezy, temperatures still below average,

0:00:370:00:39

only around about three to seven Celsius.

0:00:390:00:42

A weather front lurking in the west could bring rain

0:00:420:00:44

and hill snow from parts of Northern Ireland to south-west England,

0:00:440:00:47

but for most places we end the day going through into the early

0:00:470:00:50

hours of Monday on a cold and a clear note.

0:00:500:00:53

So a widespread frost

0:00:530:00:54

and the risk of icy stretches Monday morning, particularly

0:00:540:00:57

where we've got that feed of showers coming in in the east.

0:00:570:01:00

Then, looking at Monday, we've got a northerly air flow,

0:01:000:01:03

those isobars heading all the way back towards the Arctic.

0:01:030:01:06

Weather fronts staying out of the way for the moment, lurking

0:01:060:01:09

in the Atlantic, but through Monday morning itself most places

0:01:090:01:12

start dry with some sunshine,

0:01:120:01:13

and after that initial frost it will feel fairly pleasant in light winds.

0:01:130:01:17

But the northerly breeze

0:01:170:01:18

driving in further showers across East Anglia and the south-east,

0:01:180:01:21

perhaps also through parts of Cheshire, North Wales.

0:01:210:01:24

So showers on the cards. Many central and northern areas,

0:01:240:01:27

though, getting a good deal of sunshine, but still pretty chilly,

0:01:270:01:29

around about five to nine degrees on Monday.

0:01:290:01:32

If we look at the pressure situation, Monday night into Tuesday

0:01:320:01:35

you'll notice this frontal system moving in from the Atlantic.

0:01:350:01:38

Shouldn't bring too much in the way of any heavy precipitation,

0:01:380:01:41

but there will be a change in the feel to things as we head

0:01:410:01:43

through the day on Tuesday, a cloudier story, a change

0:01:430:01:46

in wind direction to more of a west or south-westerly direction.

0:01:460:01:50

Scattered showers following on behind,

0:01:500:01:52

outbreaks of rain tending to fizzle out later in the day.

0:01:520:01:55

Temperatures still on the cool side on Tuesday,

0:01:550:01:57

but recovering by a degree or two.

0:01:570:01:59

Into the middle part of the week,

0:01:590:02:01

it looks like milder conditions, the potential

0:02:010:02:03

for some heavy rain, but also colder interludes,

0:02:030:02:06

so we won't be out of the woods in terms of the chance of seeing

0:02:060:02:09

some frosty nights still to come.

0:02:090:02:11

So, Wednesday, a ripple on this weather front could bring

0:02:110:02:13

some potentially heavy rain to areas including

0:02:130:02:15

the south-east of England for a time, so we start

0:02:150:02:18

off Wednesday with that frontal system gradually easing eastwards.

0:02:180:02:22

So it'll probably be northern

0:02:220:02:23

and western areas seeing the best of any drier

0:02:230:02:25

and potentially brighter weather through the day on Wednesday.

0:02:250:02:28

We could see double figures for the first time in a little while.

0:02:280:02:31

Then, on into Thursday, another front moves in from the Atlantic,

0:02:310:02:34

as you can see here, with some fairly tight isobars, so I think

0:02:340:02:37

a spell of pretty windy weather with some heavy rain at times,

0:02:370:02:40

especially across the north-western half of the country,

0:02:400:02:43

on Thursday, but with that south-westerly air flow,

0:02:430:02:46

temperatures fairly widely back into double figures.

0:02:460:02:49

So less sunshine, but at least those temperatures on the rise.

0:02:490:02:53

If we look at the end of next week, it looks like high pressure

0:02:530:02:56

will start to build out towards the south and the east of the UK.

0:02:560:02:59

Low pressure's still likely to move in from the Atlantic.

0:02:590:03:02

That leaves us with a west or a south-westerly flow of milder

0:03:020:03:05

air than we've seen recently.

0:03:050:03:07

Often wet and cloudy conditions, mainly towards

0:03:070:03:09

the north-west of the UK, to end next week, whereas things should be

0:03:090:03:12

a little drier and clearer with some sunshine further south and east.

0:03:120:03:16

So, the outlook for the next ten days or so,

0:03:160:03:18

after a cold start things will gradually turn milder.

0:03:180:03:21

There will be rain at times, and often looking fairly breezy, too.

0:03:210:03:25

That's how it's looking. We'll keep you up to date. Bye for now.
