Hello. Over the past week or so, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
the weather has had a distinctly wintry flavour to it. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
We've seen temperatures below average | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
and some outbreaks of snow as well. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:10
To start this new week, we stick with that wintry theme at first. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
Further ice and snow at times, but gradually things will start | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
to turn a little bit milder and we'll see outbreaks of rain. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:20
So a bit unsettled, particularly through the middle of the week. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
To start off Monday morning, a hard frost, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:24
some icy stretches around too. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
A cold northerly wind continues to blow sleet | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
and snow showers across Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
there could be a couple of centimetres here. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
Further west also cloudy at times. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
Parts of Wales and the south-west of England | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
with some wintry flurries. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
But for most places, plenty of that crisp, cold sunshine. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:42
Temperatures at best around 6 or 7 degrees. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
Monday night looks like another cold one, again with a hard frost. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:48
This approaching weather front will bring some icy conditions | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
as well as some hill snow initially, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
which could be heavy across parts of Scotland and northern England too. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
Another cold start to Tuesday with a risk of iciness around too. | 0:00:56 | 0:01:00
Tuesday is dominated by the fact that we've got this front. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
It's moving its way west to east gradually across the country. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
Initially, it's going to be falling as snow over | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
the higher ground for Scotland and northern England. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
As it heads its way eastwards, it's not particularly active. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
It starts to fragment. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
So, light and patchy rainfall, especially at lower levels. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
Perhaps a little bit of hill snow still as it pushes in towards | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
the south-east. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
Towards the north-west, | 0:01:21 | 0:01:22
clearer conditions with a few scattered showers. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
And temperatures perhaps just about nudging into double figures | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
towards the south-west. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
Still around 7 or 8 for most of us. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
Tuesday night into Wednesday, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:32
we're watching this deepening area of low pressure. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
Tight isobars around that as it moves into southern parts of the UK. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
It's quite likely to bring a spell of windy and wet weather to some | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42
southern, central and eastern parts before gradually easing away | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
towards the east later on in the day. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
There could be a little bit of snow on the northern edge of that system, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
mainly falling as rain though. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
Again, temperatures on the cool side, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
but not quite as cold as it has been over the past couple of days. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
So, through the middle part of the week, things are looking unsettled. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
We've got potentially some heavy rain, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
especially towards some southern and eastern areas. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
Windy too, but still some colder interludes | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
and the chance of some frostiness overnight. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
But it's not really until Wednesday night and on into Thursday | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
that we start to see this milder air being imported from the south-west. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:16
So through the day on Thursday, a warm front heads in, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
bringing some rain to the west of the UK. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
Further south and east, things should stay largely dry | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
and temperatures, in London for instance, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
back up to around 11 degrees. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
A different feel compared with the first part of the week. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
On into Friday. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
High pressure in the Atlantic starts to nudge in across the UK. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
Still a lingering weather front, but things will start to | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
quieten down somewhat as we look towards the end of the week. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
The chance of a little bit of rain in the north-west, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
but for most of us, largely cloudy, mainly dry, 13 degrees or so. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:48
Not feeling too bad as we head towards the end of the week. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
On into next weekend as well, we're likely to see high pressure, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
probably out towards the south-east of the UK and that's going to | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
lead to a south-westerly flow of reasonably mild air. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
There is a smaller chance, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:02
though, that this high pressure could become established | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
further north, up across Scandinavia, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
which would lead to a colder flow of air piling in from the east. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
But, either way, it does look like high pressure will be in charge. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
So, gradually, things will quieten down. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
It may feel a bit more spring-like as we head towards next weekend. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
In the meanwhile, it's a wintry start to the week, rain at | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
times mid week, but things will turn milder and more settled later on. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:26
We'll keep you up to date right here. Bye-bye. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29 |
