Hello. Over the past week or so,

0:00:020:00:04

the weather has had a distinctly wintry flavour to it.

0:00:040:00:07

We've seen temperatures below average

0:00:070:00:09

and some outbreaks of snow as well.

0:00:090:00:10

To start this new week, we stick with that wintry theme at first.

0:00:100:00:13

Further ice and snow at times, but gradually things will start

0:00:130:00:16

to turn a little bit milder and we'll see outbreaks of rain.

0:00:160:00:20

So a bit unsettled, particularly through the middle of the week.

0:00:200:00:23

To start off Monday morning, a hard frost,

0:00:230:00:24

some icy stretches around too.

0:00:240:00:26

A cold northerly wind continues to blow sleet

0:00:260:00:29

and snow showers across Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk,

0:00:290:00:31

there could be a couple of centimetres here.

0:00:310:00:33

Further west also cloudy at times.

0:00:330:00:35

Parts of Wales and the south-west of England

0:00:350:00:37

with some wintry flurries.

0:00:370:00:38

But for most places, plenty of that crisp, cold sunshine.

0:00:380:00:42

Temperatures at best around 6 or 7 degrees.

0:00:420:00:44

Monday night looks like another cold one, again with a hard frost.

0:00:440:00:48

This approaching weather front will bring some icy conditions

0:00:480:00:51

as well as some hill snow initially,

0:00:510:00:53

which could be heavy across parts of Scotland and northern England too.

0:00:530:00:56

Another cold start to Tuesday with a risk of iciness around too.

0:00:560:01:00

Tuesday is dominated by the fact that we've got this front.

0:01:000:01:03

It's moving its way west to east gradually across the country.

0:01:030:01:06

Initially, it's going to be falling as snow over

0:01:060:01:08

the higher ground for Scotland and northern England.

0:01:080:01:10

As it heads its way eastwards, it's not particularly active.

0:01:100:01:13

It starts to fragment.

0:01:130:01:14

So, light and patchy rainfall, especially at lower levels.

0:01:140:01:17

Perhaps a little bit of hill snow still as it pushes in towards

0:01:170:01:19

the south-east.

0:01:190:01:21

Towards the north-west,

0:01:210:01:22

clearer conditions with a few scattered showers.

0:01:220:01:24

And temperatures perhaps just about nudging into double figures

0:01:240:01:28

towards the south-west.

0:01:280:01:29

Still around 7 or 8 for most of us.

0:01:290:01:31

Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:01:310:01:32

we're watching this deepening area of low pressure.

0:01:320:01:35

Tight isobars around that as it moves into southern parts of the UK.

0:01:350:01:38

It's quite likely to bring a spell of windy and wet weather to some

0:01:380:01:42

southern, central and eastern parts before gradually easing away

0:01:420:01:44

towards the east later on in the day.

0:01:440:01:47

There could be a little bit of snow on the northern edge of that system,

0:01:470:01:50

mainly falling as rain though.

0:01:500:01:52

Again, temperatures on the cool side,

0:01:520:01:54

but not quite as cold as it has been over the past couple of days.

0:01:540:01:57

So, through the middle part of the week, things are looking unsettled.

0:01:570:02:00

We've got potentially some heavy rain,

0:02:000:02:02

especially towards some southern and eastern areas.

0:02:020:02:05

Windy too, but still some colder interludes

0:02:050:02:07

and the chance of some frostiness overnight.

0:02:070:02:09

But it's not really until Wednesday night and on into Thursday

0:02:090:02:12

that we start to see this milder air being imported from the south-west.

0:02:120:02:16

So through the day on Thursday, a warm front heads in,

0:02:160:02:19

bringing some rain to the west of the UK.

0:02:190:02:22

Further south and east, things should stay largely dry

0:02:220:02:24

and temperatures, in London for instance,

0:02:240:02:26

back up to around 11 degrees.

0:02:260:02:28

A different feel compared with the first part of the week.

0:02:280:02:31

On into Friday.

0:02:310:02:33

High pressure in the Atlantic starts to nudge in across the UK.

0:02:330:02:37

Still a lingering weather front, but things will start to

0:02:370:02:39

quieten down somewhat as we look towards the end of the week.

0:02:390:02:42

The chance of a little bit of rain in the north-west,

0:02:420:02:44

but for most of us, largely cloudy, mainly dry, 13 degrees or so.

0:02:440:02:48

Not feeling too bad as we head towards the end of the week.

0:02:480:02:51

On into next weekend as well, we're likely to see high pressure,

0:02:510:02:55

probably out towards the south-east of the UK and that's going to

0:02:550:02:58

lead to a south-westerly flow of reasonably mild air.

0:02:580:03:01

There is a smaller chance,

0:03:010:03:02

though, that this high pressure could become established

0:03:020:03:05

further north, up across Scandinavia,

0:03:050:03:07

which would lead to a colder flow of air piling in from the east.

0:03:070:03:10

But, either way, it does look like high pressure will be in charge.

0:03:100:03:13

So, gradually, things will quieten down.

0:03:130:03:15

It may feel a bit more spring-like as we head towards next weekend.

0:03:150:03:18

In the meanwhile, it's a wintry start to the week, rain at

0:03:180:03:21

times mid week, but things will turn milder and more settled later on.

0:03:210:03:26

We'll keep you up to date right here. Bye-bye.
