The weather pattern which has kept us stormy over winter,

0:00:030:00:05

even into the first part of meteorological spring,

0:00:050:00:07

has now taken a significant change

0:00:070:00:09

and much quieter weather

0:00:090:00:11

on the horizon for the UK -

0:00:110:00:12

"Long may it last!", I can hear you say.

0:00:120:00:15

This is how the Jet Stream

0:00:150:00:16

was directing those stormy

0:00:160:00:18

weather systems across the Atlantic.

0:00:180:00:20

It was relentless in that

0:00:200:00:21

over the winter months,

0:00:210:00:23

but now we're seeing high pressure

0:00:230:00:26

building across the UK,

0:00:260:00:27

changing the position of the jet stream,

0:00:270:00:29

and it's a blocking weather pattern,

0:00:290:00:31

too, so this is not breaking down

0:00:310:00:33

any time soon.

0:00:330:00:34

Low pressure systems missing us to the north,

0:00:340:00:36

around the high pressure

0:00:360:00:37

through the Mediterranean,

0:00:370:00:39

and we are free from significant weather systems

0:00:390:00:42

in the week ahead.

0:00:420:00:43

There are a few niggles out there from time to time,

0:00:430:00:45

and we'll detail those day by day.

0:00:450:00:47

But it is looking much quieter,

0:00:470:00:49

much more settled and benign weather pictures

0:00:490:00:51

from weather watchers for much of the week ahead.

0:00:510:00:54

This, the view from Northern Ireland

0:00:540:00:55

on Saturday where, near the north coast,

0:00:550:00:57

it got to around 15 Celsius.

0:00:570:00:59

Sunday, somewhere could well match that,

0:00:590:01:01

maybe around the Moray coast,

0:01:010:01:02

helped by some sunshine

0:01:020:01:04

and a favourable wind direction

0:01:040:01:05

and plenty of that sunshine

0:01:050:01:07

into the afternoon.

0:01:070:01:08

Let's take a look -

0:01:080:01:09

patchy cloud for Northern Ireland,

0:01:090:01:11

southern Scotland, northern England,

0:01:110:01:13

rain clearing Shetland.

0:01:130:01:14

Around the Moray coast, we can see 15, 16 degrees.

0:01:140:01:17

Plenty sunshine for the afternoon

0:01:170:01:19

into England and Wales -

0:01:190:01:20

in that sunshine, it's going to feel

0:01:200:01:22

quite pleasant, but near the coast

0:01:220:01:25

of East Anglia, far south-east of England,

0:01:250:01:27

not only could you have more cloud,

0:01:270:01:28

but you've got a stronger breeze.

0:01:280:01:30

That really is pegging the temperatures back,

0:01:300:01:32

just about 5 or 6 degrees.

0:01:320:01:34

That is one of those niggles

0:01:340:01:35

in the week ahead, that around the area

0:01:350:01:37

of high pressure, for a time,

0:01:370:01:38

we have that chilly wind down towards the south-east

0:01:380:01:40

and along the south coast of the UK,

0:01:400:01:42

holding temperatures back,

0:01:420:01:44

accentuating a chill.

0:01:440:01:46

On Monday, though,

0:01:460:01:47

still some good sunny spells around,

0:01:470:01:49

particularly towards the north-west of the UK,

0:01:490:01:51

this is where we get the highest temperatures -

0:01:510:01:53

Glasgow at around 13 Celsius,

0:01:530:01:55

most of us close to that 10 Celsius mark.

0:01:550:01:57

Bear in mind, overnight, though,

0:01:570:01:59

where you're clear in particularly rural spots,

0:01:590:02:01

there could be a touch of frost -

0:02:010:02:02

again, at times this week,

0:02:020:02:04

there could be a bit of patchy fog as well,

0:02:040:02:06

and as we go into Tuesday,

0:02:060:02:07

the high pressure is still close by,

0:02:070:02:09

still that chilly wind towards the south-east.

0:02:090:02:11

Could see increasing cloud generally

0:02:110:02:13

down the eastern side of the UK

0:02:130:02:14

and that's why we could see

0:02:140:02:16

a few spots of drizzle, seven, eight degrees.

0:02:160:02:18

Sunniest weather, though,

0:02:180:02:19

to the west and north-west of the UK,

0:02:190:02:21

where again, we're into double figures.

0:02:210:02:23

Midweek, nothing changing very quickly -

0:02:230:02:26

high pressure still close by.

0:02:260:02:27

It could well be there's a cloudy zone

0:02:270:02:29

though central parts of the UK on Wednesday

0:02:290:02:32

that could produce a bit of patchy drizzle.

0:02:320:02:34

We're not talking bone-dry this week,

0:02:340:02:36

as I mentioned earlier,

0:02:360:02:37

but the lack of any significant rainfall

0:02:370:02:40

and still the chilly wind down towards the south-east.

0:02:400:02:43

By the time we get to Thursday,

0:02:430:02:44

could well be cloudier generally.

0:02:440:02:46

From thicker cloud,

0:02:460:02:48

you may well encounter some patchy drizzle,

0:02:480:02:50

but that wind is easing

0:02:500:02:51

down towards the south-east of the UK.

0:02:510:02:53

It's feeling less chilly,

0:02:530:02:54

temperatures around 10 degrees,

0:02:540:02:55

and most of us getting 8-10 degrees.

0:02:550:02:58

This is the picture going into next weekend,

0:02:580:03:00

very much dominated by high pressure,

0:03:000:03:02

this blocking weather pattern,

0:03:020:03:04

always very slow to break down.

0:03:040:03:06

There's a chance we could see

0:03:060:03:08

a few Atlantic weather systems

0:03:080:03:09

trying to head our way, but that's a very low possibility

0:03:090:03:12

at this stage for next weekend.

0:03:120:03:13

Most places are looking dry,

0:03:130:03:15

variable cloud, some sunny spells.

0:03:150:03:17

If you're clear for any period of time overnight,

0:03:170:03:19

you could just get a touch of frost,

0:03:190:03:21

there could be patchy fog around as well.

0:03:210:03:24

So, such a big change

0:03:240:03:25

from what we've had over recent months.

0:03:250:03:28

I think most people would be happy with that for a while.
